If I could give 10 stars I would. Dr. Golden and her team where phenomenal. Our puppy went in for a procedure to correct her pulmonic stenosis, things were looking extremely grim for her. The team supported us through the whole journey from traveling into Pullman (from across state), to testing, to choosing her treatment options to recovery. Our girl not only was treated with the best of care, but her results from the procedure were better than anyone thought possible. Thank you for giving our rescue puppy another chance at life. ❤️

Our dog was treated like family, the staff was beyond informative, and they offer care better than what a human might receive. It won’t be free, but you are paying for access to some of the most advanced resources available to animals. The only comfort brought to us during this scary time was that he was in the best hands possible. We did get referred here by our local vet due to his condition and they accepted us, so we can’t speak on the process to get seen, but one week later he is home and on the road to a full recovery. Thank you to everyone at the Washington State University Vet hospital, we are very grateful for you.

My wife and I brought our dog kloe Mae here for cancer treatments. They did a great job, and it was a lot more affordable than I was expecting it to be. All the staff and our vet here were very friendly and answered all of our questions that we might have had on treatment options for her. She is officially cancer free now, thanks to the team here. We just came in last week for our 1 month check, and she is still in the clear.

I am so impressed with WSU Veterinary Hospital. My dog was in a tragic accident almost paralyzing him. My sister and I rushed him to the WSU from Ellensburg, WA. The staff was ready to receive us when we arrived. We ended up having to stay two days in Pullman, WA, while my dog stabilized. The staff was very kind and keep me well informed. We were able to take my dog home with high hope for recovery. Thank you WSU staff for al that you do.

The first time I came in for my dog’s vaccinations, the initial vet tried to sell me everything that they could. She was extremely rude and condescending towards me. Telling me that I can “call my mom” to figure out what my next plan of action was. This place feels more of a cash and grab, rather than an actual teaching hospital.I came in for a booster shot during another appointment and found out that every visit has a mandatory exam fee. It should have been a simple shot. I was not told about the fee and I had to inquire about it. This second vet was much nicer, but I don’t recommend anyone coming here unless they have a large disposable income and can possibly handle a rude vet.

The entire team took exceptional care of our horses, and used innovative techniques to offer our boy the best and least stressful experience. Communication was a little sparse until we arrived, but then we were kept well informed as the plan evolved into something different than what was originally expected. Dr. Ragle and team are fantastic!

If you can avoid them do so. They were so cold and calculating while discussing treatment options for my dog. they kept trying to force expensive procedures on us without telling the full story. I got a bill before I received the full summary of the visit. They were NOT upfront with all the issues he was facing. They took the most prominent one and ran with it to try and push us into paying them more money. Ask them for everything, view the xrays, see the blood test results. Do not trust that they are giving you the full picture or actually care about you and your pets. My animals are like family to us and WSU treated them like another cash grab/teaching moment

I contacted the WSU Veterinary Hospital seeking emergency care for my daughter's 4H rabbit due to concerns that she had mastitis (had eight 2 week old bunnies). I spoke to a couple different staff and explained the details of the situation and my concers that the bunnies may not be getting sufficient nutrition. One staff member requested that I send pictures of the area, so I drove home and emailed them pictures. I received an email response stating "Our vets have taken a look and it looks like a normal nursing process so far. The nipples will be crusty from dried milk, and it seems like the babies are getting a little rough with mom as their teeth grow in, but our vets don't suspect mastitis. If you'd like to make a general appointment to get her examined, I'm happy to schedule her into our next available in May." I responded to explain further concern given my experience with breeding rabbits for several years and that the situation was urgent. I received no furher response.Thankfully I was able to get her in to a different vet (The Moscow Animal Clinic & Hospital - the staff and vet were wonderfully helpful) the next day. Dr. Bales immediately confirmed that our rabbit had a fever and did in fact have significant mastitis, that had spread further since the day before, across multiple locations. Dr. Bales started our rabbit on antibiotics in the hopes that we will be able to save her, but the outlook is currently guarded. Additionally, 5 of her babies died over night, likely as a result of lack of nutrition, which I expressed concern to WSU staff about over the phone yesterday.Very few veterinarians in the area treat rabbits as they all rely on WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a quality source of care. Unfortunately, the WSU staff were dismissive and lacked concern in this situation. Our rabbit's condition continued to decline with an additional day without care and we lost over half her litter. I am deeply disappointed with the response from WSU and will not consider their services for anything in the future. If you need care for your pets, don't call WSU! But I do highly recommend the Animal Clinic in Moscow.

I took our dog (most likely with meningitis) on a Friday. Our dog had to be taken in on a gurney after he collaped trying to walk in. I traveled down 2 hours to WSU for our dog to receive a spinal tap. Our regular vet said they would call ahead and send records with the referral (perhaps our regular vet did not get the records sent, but when I arrived the records were requested). They pressed me to do all the same tests we had already done with my regular vet. I agreed and paid $800 for more blood work and x-rays because they implied these were needed before the spinal tap could be performed. The results were the same as previous (big surprise). They were so slow and the Neurology Team said the dog was stable and the spinal tap would occur Monday. They also said our dog was not in pain and was walking around pain free. They wanted to overnight him until Monday and have me sign a $4000 release. I wanted to see him. When I saw him he appeared to be in pain and not moving at all. They said he was sedated for the X-ray. I wanted to take him home to a familiar place because he looked miserable. I agreed to bring him back on Sunday night to prep for the spinal tap and they assured me he had plenty of time. I asked numerous times for 1 procedure and left with no new info after 8 hours. He died early Sat morning in extreme agonizing pain. I'm pretty sure they mismatched his records with another dog and the neurologist wanted to go home for the weekend without a thorough asssesment. It was extremely frustrating and a last ditch effort to save our dog's life. My efforts fell flat after I pleaded for the only test that could identify what was killing him. I would only recommend WSU vet clinic if you have plenty of money for redundant tests and time to waste only having an animal with a non-life threatening condition.

absolutely horrible experience!! They were on call from my local vet on Sunday I called them they told mew they would see if I could talk to a vet ..a student asked me for the history symptoms and then said we cannot help you..I demanded to talk to a vet and an intern got on the phone and said we cannot help you on the phone we have no history but if you drive 3 hours to here we will see him My dog is diabetic and I was having a serious problem EMERGENT. I mentioned that they were on call for emergincie and what is the difference if i bring him in still they have not the history ...what is on call for if they are not there to assist. I needed to have a vet tell me how much insulin to give based on the fact he ate 1/2 the food. These PEOPLE DO NOT Care about your animal they are a JOKE> They just want to get you there and charge you a lot of money and Hello!!!I want a vet not a student or an intern..God help anyone who goes there for help. Horrible uncaring rude people!

This is just a general statement as I have not received any information or treatment for my dog. I have been here previously and they were great. It does seem like things have changed as they don’t let the owner accompany your dog for the general exam. I just wanted to let folks know this as I don’t agree with this methodology.

Dr.Finch and her vet students Sarah and Kendra helped my pet rat Sammy and I through a tough time. They were responsive in providing medication and ultimately took really good care of us when it was time to let Sammy go. It's not easy putting a beloved pet down even when it's their time to go but Dr.Finch helped ease this process and I'm extremely grateful that these services are offered for our small furry critters. Thank you WSU exotics team for taking such good care of us.

Called multiple times to get antibiotics for my dog that has U.t problems. Wasn't able to reach anyone, left messages the and never got called back, went in in person and waited 50 min and then the pharmacy closed and they said they had forgot I was there waiting for my meds, then tells me I'll have to comeback another day, I will never recommend to have anyone bring there pets here lots of mis management and even talking to students that work their and they all complain about how horrible they are about day to day customers it's bad when your own staff talks poorly about your practicesAdding this in after the fact: I called to have my dogs recordeds be sent to the new vet I will be going to and it has multiple days and my new vet tells me they still haven't received his treatment records, just a disaster

Our dog started having seizures on Sunday afternoon, Just one, the next morning she had more our regular vet advised us to take her WSU, My husband tool her in to have her evaluated, they told him the cost would be 1400.00 up front, they took her and my husband to a room, examined her, did some blood work and gave her some medication for seizures. Told my husband they would.need to keep her over night to evaluate her and they wanted to male sure the medication was working for the seizures, which it did help. They called and said the informed him the blood test are revealing that she might have insulinoma (cancer of the pancreas ) however they would have to run more tests to confirm. My husband authorized the tests, we were told we would have the results back in a week, , we did not receive the results and had to help our dog cross the rainbow bridge before we received the results. (We called many times trying to get answers and np response. The front desk staff was rude and non responsive, not helpful, kept taking our phone number down incorrectly.I would never reccomend WSU Veterinary Hospital to anyone. They are over priced, and irresponsible.

my rat had an accident where part of his tail was ripped off at 7:15 at night. i live all the way in north spokane and i called 3 emergency services up here and all three couldn’t see him and one even said the only service they could provide was euthanasia. i called wsu and they said they could see him as soon as i got down to them. so, my roommate and i packed him up and drove almost two hours to wsu for my rat to be seen. they immediately came out when i called, brought him inside for examination and then came back out for his history and walk through for what happened, all while they were examining him in the back. we didn’t wait long before they came back out to say he was going to have surgical repair of his tail and monitoring over night. they had me pay $350 up front and i made my way back to spokane. he ended up staying until monday afternoon where i paid another $200 upon pick up. honestly, for all the procedures and whatnot they did this was an extremely reasonable price for me! i thought it would be upwards towards $1000 especially since it was an emergency visit! their communication could’ve been better since i only got 3 updates total (out of surgery, sunday update and ready to go home) but i don’t really mind because in the end, my boy came home alive and well.

This place was wonderful and we’re very lucky to have them in our state. Our pup needed a balloon valvoplasty due to severe pulmonic stenosis. Our med student Peter and his team assigned to our dog was communicative, empathetic, knowledgeable, and best of all successful. Thank you so much for taking care of our pup!

WSU Vet Hospital pretty much brought our dog back from the dead in the ICU. It wasn't cheap, but neither is life. The people taking care of our pup were loving, kind, and understanding. We are grateful to have an ICU close to us, and the means to pay for his recovery. We use another vet for non-emergency work because it isnt as high stakes, but are so grateful to have such an amazing Veterinary Hospital so close by. Be prepared for a minimum $1000 for emergency work, start saving now. Worth it.They sent us pictures and gave us extremely detailed updates.

We have a 5 month old Belgian malinois and our vet that we had misdiagnosed. We took him to wsu in which they took their time and checked everything in which I will say that the students had compassion and empathy along with the professors. We had been told our puppy had to lose his leg in which I refuse to take that for an answer. Come to find out no surgery was needed and he is good. I literally started crying when I got to the car overfilled with joy. Not only did everything cost way less than what I anticipated but Natalie, brooke and dr. Gilbert exceeding so much. If you need a second opinion please take your animal here. Original prognosis was broken humerous that needed amputated and come to find out it was growth plates forming and that yes he will have a gait but he was perfectly fine. Truly a wonderful school, staff and everyone.

Denise is the rudest, most condescending “care coordinator”! She makes drama out of your simple situation, then says she “can’t handle it and someone else will call you back.” You shouldn’t be in patient care if you are rude and try to make your clients look bad and don’t support them. This place has gone downhill so quickly. They are not about patient care anymore, even my primary veterinarians say they are having a ton of issues at WSU.

I am sharing this message out of pure frustration, as the situation we faced with our cat was utterly disheartening. It happened on a Sunday, when no other options were available to us. Our poor cat was suffering from a full bladder caused by a blockage, making it impossible for him to relieve himself. Thankfully, the veterinary staff attended to him promptly, which initially gave us some reassurance. However, as time went on, we were bombarded with questions that provided us with a better understanding of the situation. While we appreciated the clear and informative explanations, what left us seething was the exorbitant cost associated with resolving the issue. To proceed with the treatment, we were asked to make an upfront payment of a staggering $2,000. Frankly, I don't know about others, but that kind of money is not readily available to us. We dared to inquire about the possibility of payment plans, only to have our hopes dashed in an instant. Feeling desperate, we mustered the courage to ask if there were any other alternatives that could save our cat's life within our financial means. Reluctantly, they presented us with another option, but made it abundantly clear that it would not be advisable and would likely lead us down the same distressing path. We were burdened with guilt, torn between making a difficult decision for our beloved cat's well-being and subjecting him to further suffering. In the end, we had no choice but to let him go... He was truly the most extraordinary cat I have ever had the privilege of knowing. To add to our anguish, we were denied the opportunity to bring him back home one last time, as the cost of cremation amounted to a staggering $600. Half of that amount was attributed to the vet's services, while the other half went to a separate cremation business. Once again, they demanded upfront payment, an expense that we simply couldn't bear. So what we got was his paw prints on a clay slab.. and a pinch of his fur. Again this is out of frustration everyone's experience will be different.

I feel like when I walk into the place I feel calm. The staff here are friendly and care for the pets. I’ve gone to their ER in the middle of the night and they were transparent with what was going on. I appreciated it so much as it was scary taking my kitten to ER at 1 in the morning. There being an ER is one of the most calming things for me, because I know if it’s an emergency there is a place I trust close by.Are they a bit more expensive, yes, and the quality of care shows. I do believe that the price reflects the care my kittens have received.

After seeing these reviews, i am absolutely horrified to ever have to bring a pet here, not only because of the fact that your beloved furkid will most likey be leaving in a cardboard box, the insane costs they will charge you and the hidden fees they will try to give you if youre unlucky enough not to notice, and the completely unprofessional and unbelievable lack of compassion, knowledge, and care you and your pet will receive. My sisters cat has what we thought was an eye infection/pink eye, but in only 2½ it progressed into him being totally blind in that eye, as well as a hole that formed within the night and already has what looks like necrosis setting in and will 100% need his eye removed, we were told by all the other vets in lewiston that it was an emergency and to go to WSU, but with the intense fear that her kitty will be given back deceased (with likely no notice until pick-up time) we are left feeling like there is nowhere for us to safely bring him to for care. I am beyond baffled they are even open and actively taking in pets and horrified by the fact that they are teaching future veterinarians absolutely barbaric and money hungry skills and nothing about actually caring for your pet.

I found them after looking for anyone who would treat my 8 week old piglet who, without surgery, would have died. They were closed, but accommodated me on the weekend, waited for us to arrive, even after we encountered hours of delays, and treated us with compassion, integrity and kept us in the loop throughout the whole process from start to finish. They left no stone unturned and, in all honesty, I've never met any group of doctors, even those dealing with humans, who have provided me with such understanding and information, multiple options for her care without passing judgement based on my decision. They saved my little girl and I would recommend this place to ANYONE, ANYTIME. They have my eternal gratitude!

Two successful TPLO surgeries for one dog. This hospital is spendy yes, but you must remember this is a specialty research AND teaching hospital and their care is top tier. Every dollar is worth the care. I’ve had to bring an animal here every year for the last three years. From an MRI on a cat to these two orthopedic surgeries and they have been amazing. Thank you for allowing me to bring my animals home.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. WSU emergency vet almost killed my dog. She came in for a simple bite wound on her neck christmas eve. After 3 1/2 hours of no updates I was informed they needed to keep her overnight.? When I picked her up the next day I finally was informed of this....She woke during the procedure of cleaning and bandaging thrashed and broke her bottom canine off. Then however much and whatever they gave her was too much, caused her to go into cardiac arrest which they had to give chest compressions to bring her back. The bandage they put on was sowed on to her head!? I've worked in the vet field and I've never seen a more unprofessional and sloppy work done ever. The bill I was presented with was off the charts and most of the damaged was caused directly by them. My personal vet is rustebakke down in Lewiston and even they were completely baffled by all that went onI will NEVER bring another animal in for them to experiment with and torture then charge ridiculous amounts of money.

Took our Dog to WSU on a Saturday with IVDD stumbling, not getting up, and unwillingness to pee. Because it was Saturday they wouldn't do an MRI told us to call Monday. We were then put in a loophole of a suggested three week wait for a first consultation appointment so we went elsewhere. Having had regular visits with our dog in the past to UCDavis for pulmonary stenosis and dentigerous cysts the experience at WSU was deplorable. They don't even take you into the exam room with the pet. It's no wonder they get confused at the duration of symptoms when they just relay a chain of information from one staff to the next instead of a group meeting with the owner. WSU clearly sees their hospital as education first and veterinary a side show. UCDavis's primary goal is veterinary care and compassion for the animal and teaching second. This resonates and exemplifies what you expect of a veterinarian when they graduate. It's sad WSU doesn't understand this concept. This resonated with my primary vet whom sent us elsewhere as they admitted WSU has become difficult to deal with and the red tape and wait times is forcing them to send emergencies elsewhere even when twice the distance away. I hope the veterinarians graduating from WSU can see past the idiosyncrasies of a poor education system and remember the reason they chose the path they have.

This review is specifically for their Theriogenology department. I called and was emailing Travis to schedule an appointment to test my MALE tortoiseshell’s chromosomes (karyotyping) to see if he’s XXY (sterile) or XYXY (fertile). I asked about cost and was told $39 via email. Didn’t seem right and I asked again to make sure the $39 was all I’d be charged. Travis’s words - “ Yes, the clinician mentioned the $39 would cover the sample collection and sending out to the lab.” So I booked the appointment. I showed up to my appointment only to be told by resident Salman Waqas that the $39 covers just the exam, and the test would cost me $300. I told him I didn’t have that kind of money, was quoted $39 and showed him my email conversation with Travis. I told him that he should check with Travis to see which “clinician” Travis spoke to. I was then told he’d have to go ask. Salman came back with resident Eduardo Arroyo to tell me that it must’ve been a communication mistake, and it would be $300 to send the test out. Apparently, if my cat was “special” and they wanted to write an article about him, then they would’ve done the test for free. Let me ask them this - how many MALE tortoiseshell or calico cats have you seen?! They’re a 1 in 3000 odds of occurring, and apparently that’s not “special” enough?! One of the vets at the clinic I work at even told me it’s the first male tortoiseshell she’s ever seen in her career (20+ years). If you look up male tortoiseshell/calico cats, you can hardly find any studies on them. Screw this department! I wasted $60 in gas and 4 hours of my life driving there and back to be told that they can’t go off of what I Travis told me, and my cat’s not special to them. Guess they missed their chance to see a really rare cat. I don’t advise anyone to use their services (specifically those residents), nor do I advise anyone to trust a quote given by Travis.
