This facility is clean and their guests are extremely well cared for. Always lots of volunteer opportunities, and always full of hopeful critters waiting for your forever home. 💞 Rating will go to 5 stars when they find a new and larger facility! Awesome shelter! My dad went in tonight to save a cat from being euthanized. The receptionist told him to pick the cat up around 3, he got there (45 minute drive 1 way), the receptionist refused to allow the cat to go home with my dad and said “she guesses she should have called him” but they moved the cat from a kennel to a cage and the cat might get upset if they tried to move it again. My dad asked if the woman could try and she reluctantly went in the other room shut the door for a few seconds walked out and told him it wasn’t happening. Mind you this cat was set to be euthanized this day and they told him to him to be there around 3 to pick the cat up… my dad said he also wanted to donate money to the cats, her response was “well yeah everyone does”….he is driving back out tomorrow to get the cat but the service he received was rude, unprofessional, and most of all uncaring.Since my story is “unclear” let me rephrase. My father applied for the cat and was approved. He went to pick up the cat as instructed. He drove 45 minutes to be told to turn around because the staff member did not want to move the cat.My dad has pleasant experiences everywhere else but here. I wrote a bad review because people deserve to know how the staff treats people who are attempting to save animals lives.So he was approved for the cat but then later denied a dog for no reason expect for the staff member had a personal vendetta against my dad and his girlfriend. She gave no reason as to why he said denied they asked him to prove where he lived, he did that. She asked them if they could set a meet and greet with my dad’s other dog he said sure no problem. Then she denied my father and gave him no reason whatsoever. And guess who suffers in all of this… the dog.Obviously your response reflects the professionalism of your staff.

Super understanding staff who were friendly as well as caring definitely this place deserves a five star rating. Dropped off three cats early In morning to be neutered and spayed they were ready to be picked up around three all of the cats were calm and little to no visible sign they had even had a surgery. Cats all healed amazingly and quick and you could barely tell by there demeanor anything had changed. The staff here do not get enough credit for what they do and they were overun by an enormous amount of cats, kittens and they all seemed well cared for and happy so I have to say if you have any cats or strays in your area that are not neutered or spayed give them a call or if you have any money, food, or time to spare this place deserves it and would appreciate anything to take away some of the strain after COVID, or if you are looking to adopt a cat or kitten they have an amazing selection of beautiful cats every type you can imagine that have been well cared for. I have to say these people really seem to care and also know what they are doing and I appreciate the service they put out and the time and care and concern they give. Thank you again Jefferson humane society of Jefferson county.

The staff there helped me with my cats & kittens when I had to move and could not bring any of my babies with me! They received all shots, spay/neuter etc along with foster care for momma & babies until they could find forever homes for all of them! Thank you for loving and caring for them from the bottom of my heart! It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do but you made it okay to know how well they would be treated! They take excellent care of all the animals there and work hard to find forever homes for every animal placed in there care! Donate!, Donate, donate! Every little bit helps! Thank you!

I've volunteered here for about 10 months now, and it's been a fantastic experience! The staff is super friendly, and I consider them to be good friends. Plus, I recently adopted a cat named Julius from here back in March, and he's awesome. This shelter deserves as much support as possible, they treat the animals so well.

Great facility with very caring staff. We adopted a wonderful pup and are very grateful for the excellent care she received in her foster home. They take time to ensure pets are well matched to their adoptive homes and have a nice fenced area for introductions. I highly recommend this shelter!

THANK YOU! Jefferson County Humane Society for finding My brothers companion, LUCKY, a 13 year old, Blind and half deaf, Pug & Boxer mix. Lucky jumped out of his car window, yesterday afternoon at the Goodwill Store in Port Townsend. The caring employee called Donnie as soon as LUCKY hit the Shelter. We picked LUCKY up this morning. And Thanks to whoever found him and called our Outstanding Animal Shelter in Port Townsend!!

I adopted Bolt from this humane society. I was amazed by the amount of effort these people put in to make sure that their animals find a permanent, happy home. They understood what sort of environment Bolt would do well in and made sure that I was a good fit. After they determined I was a good fit and I adopted Bolt, they hooked me up with a ton of toys, food, pet literature, etc. This was completely unexpected and punctuated my experience with this humane society with an exclamation point. These people really care about animals and it's evident in the work they do.

This shelter sucked!! I drove over 2 hours to get there and they wouldn't even let me open a gate to pet a dog... What's with that.. I put in a request for a certain dog... I have a dog now that I rescued 15 years ago.. Very healthy Jack Russell... I'm insulted by their response letter saying that the dog I wanted isn't a "good fit for our situation"... The lady I saw was a bitter lady who knew NOTHING about me... These people aren't qualified to take care of animals! I should have been able to take the dog home THAT day!! Instead they let the poor animal sit in the little kennel for another few days neglected... I wouldn't donate a thin some to this shelter until the management changes.. They don't care about the animals... I will never go into another rescue shelter either now.. I will buy from a breeder or pet store.., this animal shelter is cruel to the animals!! And I don't want a mentally broken pet...

When my Sheltie "went over the Rainbow Bridge" I was left with lots of doggie beds, feeding bowls and racks, leashes, a doggie door and more. Turns out that the Humane Society runs the animal shelter in Port Townsend and will distribute this largess to those who adopt shelter dogs.Very well run operation and very competent and conscientious volunteers.

Almost a year ago I had to have my female shih Tzu put to sleep and I was devastated. A good friend went on line and found another one....at this shelter, the next day we were on a ferry headed towards him, the minute I saw him I knew we were meant for each other. Duffy has been my joyful constant companion ever since. I too am so grateful to this shelter.

Eight years ago we arrived at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and were greeted by about six large dogs, each in their own kennel. At the very end a little white and caramel pup barked as loud as the big guys "take me, take me." The handlers told us we could open the door to the kennel, and she jumped in my arms. Still reluctant to take on the responsibility I asked what they knew about her beside what was stated on her paperwork. They said she had to be a Basenji terrier mix, gave me a leash and suggested I'd take her for a walk on the grounds. Meanwhile my husband learned there was no —leaving to think it over. "There's two other parties interested, if they return before you, she'll be gone." So here are, Mocha nearly nine. To the nice guys over there, we thank you for telling us not to waste any time!

Kitsap humane society loves their animals there so many volunteers there but they could always use more there's lots to do for all those animals but the best thing is , Is that I got to bring a dog home a Jack Russell / Chihuahua with an attitude and a sassyness like you wouldn't believe And he was shipped in from Hawaii which ironically I was born and raised there so it's like it was meant to be!
