Failure to achieve leading to loss of talent and money. The mud bay home office executive team and cronies are somehow condescending without having the necessary experience to condescend. In two decades of work experience I have never seen a less cohesive communication strategy. It is truly the blind leading the blind. When I was hired I was told there were some growing pains of a company moving from small to medium. Even with this warning of disorganization I never imagined a company could change for the worse so quickly. It is fair to say after promising health care and scheduling consistency it has let down all the store staff by forcing part time or split shifts in an effort to reduce eligibility for benefits. It has very low ratio of staff on the floor which can only drive up shoplifting, and it has failed to modernize with online shop options despite over investing in an IT department. In summary: toxic workplace and broken culture syndrome.

Last minute firings of delivery team, a hush hush 48 hour document that had to be signed to keep your hours, stripping people of their benefits because they can't keep their hours and now blocking people on their social media platforms who speak out. The lack of ownership I witness is vulgar. Instead of being transparent and sharing actual information, you choose to show your corporate greed and tell people to not share their stories with other stores because "their managers haven't had a chance to talk it over." Once a place I used to love. Is an appalling, miserable example of a Good jobs strategy. Also, the managers are your backbone. You can stop blaming your managers for people leaving and not leading people through your changes, your mistakes.

Lars and Marissa, you have ruined what was once a wonderful, magical, meaningful store culture. You have broken it beyond repair. It's gross and disappointing.I am deeply disheartened by Mud Bay's upper "leadership" (if you can call it that). After being told that hours and store staff would be the LAST thing touched due to the financial crisis MB is in, execs immediately gave store staff ultimatums regarding their hours and are offering the most pathetic severance pay in order to avoid paying unemployment. Which, for the record, equates to their benefits, wages, ability to pay rent, afford groceries, etc.The folks who work in the actual stores are the lifeblood of this company. The staff who work in stores are people I admire, respect, and will get loud over. They deserve better than what the upper leadership at this company is giving to them by trying to weasel out of paying folks unemployment.Lars and Marissa - YOU made choices that got this company where it is right now. Store staff didn't spend all that money on bad investments. They hug customers while they cry over losing a pet. They celebrate new family members. They give the MBX even when they're being treated badly. They believe in what this company told them it was - what it COULD be.The store staff I worked with across Seattle changed my life for the better. They do not deserve to be pushed out of a company they believe in because you refuse to do the right thing. Here's one idea, free of charge - Move out of this fancy office space. You probably don't need a beverage fridge stocked with beer and sodas or a balcony that overlooks a river. Working from a community center or home could save some dollars. If nothing else, the absolute least you could do is take real ownership of what you've done to cause this and be honest with your staff. They're afraid because you are not actually leading. They're sad because they love working for Mud Bay and you're taking what they love away from them. They work hard for you. You owe them your honesty at the very least. Finally, before you leave me some empty platitude of a comment back to this, please know that there is nothing you can say to quell the storm you've sparked in my soul over these staff. Walk your talk, lean into your "values", and show your staff some respect, empathy, and real honesty. Mud Bay doesn't exist without them, and they want to be there. Show them you deserve them.

Horrified to hear how things have gone down the toilet since I left the company a little over 6 months ago. Mud Bay was already starting to show its true colors, and now that this VRP is in place, It's a miracle anyone would want to work here anymore. In fact, I'm guessing most don't, but have no other choice because they gotta pay the bills somehow. So, so sorry for my former fellow staffers and leads. Get out there and strike! I'll be doing to same thing here as an Academic Student Employee here at WSU.

How can anyone trust a business that doesn't hold itself accountable to the employees and customers who have committed their stake and trust in the company? You should be ashamed of your labor practices. Make meaningful changes now before you lose trust in the public.

Curious why I am not allowed to speak up for Mudbay employees and not allowed to ask for insight regarding the changes that Mudbay is not willing to speak up on and be transparent about. Your muddies are amazing, supportive, and give that MBX day in and day out. Would wish they had the job security to continue doing the wonderful work they do. Unfortunately, you are losing some incredible people with the changes you are choosing to be so hush hush about.

Disappointed to see and hear how this company is treating their employees. I’ve shopped here for years, thanks to the amazing people that work here. To silence their voices after cutting hours and denying benefits (among other things) is shameful. All the Best Pet Care here I come!

Solidarity with the workers of Mud Bay! People at the top never have to experience the brunt of “losses.” Treat your workers with respect!!

Terribly rude and disrespectful. The four employees working at the time of my visit were in sync with NOT protecting the general public with regards to the Covid-19 health risk. No Mask! No gloves! When I confronted them about protecting themselves and others they just laughed and rolled their eyes saying “it’s our choice to Not wear a face(mask) and none of your concern”. Really. ? I have been a loyal customer for years and never experienced such disregard for public safety. Come on Mud Bay! Step it up. You can do better. Federal Way location can do better. ! Benji

Ive been in a couple times, I really appreciate the products and most of the time its simple. I get in and out. The last time I went I was really hurt with the rudeness of not only a customer but an employee laughing at my choice in cat litter. If they wanted to suggest something else I would have listened but to just be laughed at for getting what works for me was really dissapointing and has made me change stores. Even if a customer is rude, i understand you can't control the pettyness of other but the employee laughing. Inappropriate and unprofessional.
