This is a must-do experience if you in any way appreciate culture or history, and the you’ll appreciate the introduction to the residents of the northwestern most point in the contiguous 48 states that live here. If you’re headed to this part of the Olympic peninsula, I can’t recommend this museum enough. The artifacts housed here, the fascinating story of their discovery, and the background information on the people you’ll be visiting are all completely invaluable. Some breathtaking objects available from local artisans in the giftshop, just be aware that no photos are allowed inside. The host is a wealth of information, and is warm and welcoming to questions. You can also pick up the recreational pass here required for doing many things on the reservation. Heartily recommended.

If you want to park anywhere in Neah Bay or Cape Flattery, you need to first visit the museum and get a parking pass. It’s valid for a whole year though.I recommend a visit for anybody who visits this area as it tells the story of the Makah tribe, it is really important to understand the history of the people to really appreciate this area and it’s beauty and of course, the people. The gift shop is pretty nice and has some items with native designs. I bought a beautiful mug with a native design and a warm beanie with a Makah design.

Excellent museum showing 4,000 years of local history, proudly displayed by the local sovereign nation. What make this one particularly unique is the number of artifacts that were preserved in a mudslide and discovered by chance about 55 years ago. Well worth stopping in if one is in town to see the other local attractions. It is a 4hr + drive from the Seattle area so staying overnight is highly recommended.

This was truly one of the most incredible cultural center/museums I have ever had the privilege of visiting. There is no photography allowed inside of any of the exhibits of the artifacts, so I will hold the images in my memory. I learned so much about the Makah First Nations people! Please do plan to visit here if you are in the area. Wonderful!!

Really fun place to explore and learn about the Makah Tribe. The staff member that allowed us entry was really polite and helpful. Mentioned that my dad had a leaf on his shoulder, which I thought was nice, if a bit silly. Off to the side of the entrance is a small gift shop with a cooler of drinks. The fee to enter wasn't very expensive, in total about 10 bucks per adult, if I remember correctly. At the start of the museum, there was a brief history of the area, and each exhibit had some info on what was being shown, as well as what the items were used for. There is even a replica of a longhouse that was used by the Makah people. It was a bit dark inside, and the floor wasn't level in spots. However, that was by design. When my dad and I went, there was a lot of parking, and almost every exhibit was easy to get to. There are a few steps to enter a small part of the museum, but apart from that, each exhibit can be reached via ramps. All in all, I had a good time there learning about the Makah Tribe, and I highly recommend it if you want to learn some history of the area.

Simply amazing display of Ozette Archelogical village artifacts and additional tribal canoes and art. They have rebuilt one of the Ozette houses as an interactive exhibit with a mural looking out at the ocean from the door. Detailed and gorgeous, I was just not expecting that level of effort. Pictures are not allowed so sadly I have nothing to share but strongly encourage a visit if you are in the area.

Beautiful displays of Makah history, with many artifacts and displays with short and easy to comprehend descriptions that make for a wonderful experience to visit and learn about the culture and history of the Makah tribe. A highlight is a full size recreation of a house that was excavated from a natural disaster that left a village preserved in mud and seawater. Photos are not allowed inside the museum, which gave me the freedom to fully take in the information without feeling the need to document it. Would definitely visit again to share with others!

What an amazing museum. You must stop to see this very well curated museum. Home of over 55,000 artifacts recovered from the  Ozette Archaeological Site discovered in the 1970s.Between 300-500 artifacts are displayed illustrating the whaling and sealing life of the Makah peoples. Items include large cedar canoes, fishing tools (harpoons, hooks, nets, bouys). There is also a replica traditional longhouse.Be sure and touch the canoes, paddles and the harpoons in central room. It's allowed!Allot 90 minutes. It is well worth the stop if you are on your way to Cape Flattery.

Shirley was warm and welcoming, and full of knowledge about her peoples and the area. This is an excellent local museum, well-curated and laid out. The replica long house is super cool. Beautiful Makah artifacts recovered from the coast. Makah were here before people(s) like mine, are still here and resilient. Thank you, Makah Museum.

So sad you can't take pictures because there's SO much amazing history and story so beautifully presented. Truly. If you've never been, pack it in with a trip to Cape Flattery and one of the few but oh so fantastic eateries... It'll change you. But that bold claim aside, the museum itself is worth the visit for anyone who loves the history and the culture of this amazing world.

A must visit when coming out to Cape Flattery Trail on the Makah Indian Reservation. Amazing collection of art and artifacts many from the Ozette Native American Village Archeological Site - only excavated in the last 50-60 years. Immersive, beautiful and so interesting, especially the full size Makah longhouse that visitors can walk into. Learn of the tribe's history and legacy, from the Makah themselves. No photographs allowed.

must visit! The center is laid out beautifully, and curated to depict the lives of the Makah tribe during each season of the year. The staff were kind, the facilities were clean. We spent about an hour on the tour, but you could move through it more quickly if you don’t ready every single sign. The artifacts are beautiful, the sophistication of the Macah people is unmatched. At the end of the self-guided tour you have the option to watch an hour long documentary on the Makah tribe. Highly recommended! The documentary explained in greater detail some of the exhibits at the museum as well as the life and history of the tribe and their life in the Pacific Northwest. It even goes to describe present day and how the new generation are learning the Macah language to keep their culture alive. We as a nation have taken so much from our native community, if you are traveling in the area you owe them a visit. When you’re finished I recommend heading a half a mile down the road to get some fresh smoked salmon. A local man sells it from his garage, cash only. We absolutely loved our time on the reservation and encourage everyone to visit this beautiful area.

The most moving & effective museum I have ever visited & I've visited many. All the interpretation is in the tribal voice of the Makah describing their pre-contact ancestors & their belongings from the Ozette site, inundated by a mudslide 500 years ago. Incredibly well done!

This place is wonderful and so interesting. We were pretty happy they were open and it was so worth the stop. So many fascinating displays and exhibits and really cool things to learn about. The museum is pretty big, you dont notice it from the outside. The have several rooms with exhibits of culture and history of the area and even one room with a giant whale skeleton! We stopped by the giftshop and they have some cool souvenirs from magnets and cups to hoodies and blankets. They have alot of cultural pieces and theme and it's all beautiful.

My class at TESC came and were thrilled by the amazing exhibits and decently large gift shop. This is one of the best tribal museums in the country because of a mudslide that preserved thousands of items at least 700 years ago. They also have a model longhouse which you can go in and feel various animal hides/pelts as well as some cedar for weaving. The longhouse is quite low light and has uneven flooring since it is realistic but there are places to sit if desired. We had a tour with an extremely knowledgeable woman who I wish I could remember the name of! I wish we could have spent at least another hour there, there is so much to look at and read about. The gift shop is full of goodies, a great place to buy holiday gifts if you want to support a local tribe. There are lots of handmade jewelry and other items made from beadwork and weaving.Highly recommend and visit!

I am a firm believer that in order to appreciate the land and the beauty in which you see; you should first recognize the first people of the land. The cultural and research center of Makah Indian Nation is quite amazing with artifacts preserved in clay, holding onto the history of their people.Intricate weaving and toolmaking to allow their people to thrive in these bountiful, but also harsh conditions. Where you cannot take pictures of the artifacts to share with others. If you’re out here in Niha Bay, you should stop to see for yourself.

This museum provides an impressive display of artifacts from the Ozette Native American Village Archeological Site as well as those donated by members of the Makah Tribe. Please note that photography is not allowed inside the museum. Included in the exhibit is a life sized replica of one of the Ozette Long Houses. I plan to return when I can spend more time taking it all in. I especially enjoyed learning about how their "baskets" or wood boxes were constructed and the lengths to which they used cedar trees as resources, even making clothing out of the bark.
