This is a must try when coming to the island. The rib eye ramen was incredible. I wish I had room for more to try a second bowl.It is outdoor seating but they provide very good heaters. Locals also recommended that during the busier season to make reservations online because it will get booked up.

Worth the trip from Seattle!Make sure you get a reservation. We got there right when they open so we they squeezed us and a few others in, but they had reservations full for that whole weekend!Everything was handmade to order and all delicious! Broth was very fresh & umami. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating.

I visited this esteemed establishment recently, and it was... fine. The udon was flavorful and the pork belly was smoked to perfection. However, a few points detracted from the overall experience.First, while the pork belly was standout and was tender and flavorful, parts of it were burnt to the point where I couldn't really eat it. I typically don't mind my bbq being little burnt, but those pieces look more like charcoal briquettes than pork! It was quite a lose-lose. If I eat it, I might get cancer, but if I don't eat it, I am literally leaving $5 on the table. For those familiar with Chinese proverbs, it really put me in a 雞肋 situation. The rest of the dish was good, but something I could have easily made at home.Overall, I would say that Setsunai is a decent place to go if you're on Lopez Island and don't have many other options, but certainly isn't anything to write home about.

This is one of those out of the way surprises. I’ve wanted to try their noodles for a couple of years and finally made it a point to ferry from Friday Harbor to Lopez on this trip. We had to get our order of Spicy Shio Ramen, one with chicken thigh and wheat noodles, one with pork belly and rice noodles (gluten-free option :) to go as we were limited on time and couldn’t afford to miss the 1 o’clock ferry. The noodles were perfect and even though both dishes had the pork belly, the pork belly was cooked to perfection. It was worth the trip! We will definitely return and next will stay there to eat. Keep up the good work!Dietary restrictions: Rice noodle versus wheat options for gluten-free folks.

Absolutely five star experience in unassuming Lopez Island. Setsunai transported me back to Japan in the best way possible while showcasing fresh northwest cuisine and eat-where-you-live sensibilities. Coconut Shio Ramen with smoked duck was complex and beautiful.Recommend reservations any time of day. You won’t be disappointed.Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options!

I love how this restaurant is using homemade noodles and udon! It is not often that I find restaurants that use local fresh ingredients. Sustainable and tasty! Amazingly cooked meat!My one critique is that my noodles were a tad over cooked and my soup was not quite hot enough. I would have preferred a harder cooked noodle. I also found the online ordering system a bit troublesome with the limited cell service on Lopez.

Every dish we tried was incredibly unique and tasty. Meat gyoza and spicy coconut broth noodles with duck breast were great. We loved it so much we came back the next day for their Sunday brunch. The savory sourdough pancakes are something I’ll be remembering for a long time!

We stopped here for lunch during a bike ride around Lopez. Everything was top notch. Atmosphere was perfect, outdoor dining at picnic tables, with some cafe lights and a funky vibe. I had the smoked chicken ramen and my partner had the smoked chicken udon. Both were so delicious -- I didn't know ramen could be that good. They had great drink options, including local beer and cider, kombucha and shrubs. And the wait staff was very friendly.

Had a great time dining at Setsunai. After coming back from Japan, I was craving noodles. The bar was set high, so I was a little disappointed on the wait and the temperature of the broth, but other than that, it was savory, delicious and hey pretty close to the flavors I had just enjoyed in ramen shops in Tokyo. There are specific times that the restaurant is open, so you just have to become aware before showing up. Other than that, cudos to this small shop, one man kitchen, and all the love.

“Brunch served Sundays from 10am-3pm with noodles starting at 11:30“ -From website.“[ On Sundays, noodles around noon to 2:00pm]” -restaurant phone recordingAfter over $60 in travel one-way, and watching the restaurants Instagram post stories of food prepared this morning, we arrived before 1:30pm on Sunday the 26th. The restaurant was closed, upon calling the phone began to ring from inside the restaurant.I did not realize that the recommended reservations defined the hours of operation, and not just to reserve seating. My apologies,

Deeply enjoyed their savory sourdough pancake breakfast. So much intentionality and thoughtfulness around preparation and sourcing of ingredients. Incredible people and chef. Went back to try their awesome beer selection. Grateful to have visited and excited to go back soon.

chef was kind enough to accommodate our group pretty last minute as it was one of the only restaurants open on the island and looked so good!! the setup was intriguing and the ramen i got (smoked pork shoyu) did not disappoint. my friends got the udon which was equally delicious, and it was nice to know the ingredients were sourced locally. perfectly soft eggs, tasty vegetables and crispy pork in a warm yet refreshing broth was a perfect way to end our day trip to the island.

Setsunai is an all-time favorite restaurant. The food is incredibly special and we have a delightful, magical experience every single time. The new heated gazebo seating is very cozy & comfortable on a cold or rainy day/night, and it adds to the already amazing vibe & atmosphere of this unique gem on Lopez Island! Our service last night from Nate & Michelle was wonderful & thoughtful! Setsunai is kid & family friendly, and our dog is always welcome, too. Excellent food options for everyone with thoughtful consideration to dietary restrictions. You can’t go wrong with whichever dishes that you choose to order, from appetizers to entrees to desserts. We are so lucky to be able to enjoy the evolution of creative dishes that continue to emerge from Chef Josh’s kitchen!!!

We ate here twice, the first for a sourdough pancake breakfast and again the next day for the ramen. If i had to describe the food in three words, it would be distinctive, deliberate, and delicious. The pancakes were savory with scallions and served with a sauce not unlike okonomiyaki sauce. The ramen consisted of handmade whole grain noodles with a light but warming broth. Both dishes came with local greens, eggs, pickled onion, and pork belly, which was magnificently marinated and had just the perfect amount of crispness on the edges, while the fat melted in your mouth and the meat remained tender. And the pickled shitake - never before have I seen pickled shitake in my life and if there was a perfect way to prepare that, it was here. The ramen was absolutely different from the typical bowl, but its distinctiveness will surely keep in your memory, with its deliberate selection of local ingredients, and above all, it was delicious.

Some of the best ramen I've ever had! I got the spicy pork ramen and it was wonderful, I can't recommend it enough. They also have a great menu of local and PNW craft beers. So happy I stumbled upon this little hole in the wall.

A friend who lives on Lopez told me that this little noodle restaurant is "one of the islands hidden gems" and she knew what she was talking about. The salmon in my dish was so fresh I think I passed it on the ferry this morning. The staff was funny and friendly. Loved it.

The place was great, had the feel of a lovely, small community. The staff was very friendly — greeting families and solo-eaters alike. Our server, Owen, was quite friendly, contributing to our wonderful experience. The food was presented exquisitely yet somehow tasted even better. I had the locally farmed beef udon bowl, and it was cooked to perfection. My friend enjoyed his meal as well. I would definitely come again!

I love this place. The chef really has his mojo working overtime. The broth in the various noodle bowls is some of the best I've ever had, rich and complex and interesting, the udon and ramen noodles are perfect, the goyza are large and well stuffed, really perfect. The poke bowl, oh man! The atmosphere is quite modest, economical and humble but very comfortable - subdued austere beauty and a sort of rustic patina.
