My wife and I stopped in and were treated very nicely. Bought cinnamon bread (made for excellent French toast!), cinnamon roll (a different twist on a classic and I was very happy with it), pretzel rolls, and pretzels. The pretzels were correct in the German tradition of how they should be made, but were better than any I've had outside of Germany. (My mom is German, her brother is a chef and runs his own restaurant...I know what Bavarian food should taste like.) These are legit and the bakery is, in my opinion, a gem of a business.

This place is a little gem. The lady who runs it is amazing. And there are rows upon rows of baked goodies which all look and taste amazing. I initially got a pretzel and a slice of the black forest cake. Both were authentic German style, the pretzel traditionally dipped in lye, and the cake oozing with cherry syrup and cream. Later I saw the breads, there were so many types and there were samples to try for everything. Ended up buying a whole loaf of the raisin bread. Its a bit away from the traditionally decorated core of Leavenworth which makes it even more tranquil and cute and I can’t wait to return.

As soon as you step in the store, the smell of the delicious bread and danishes is there to greet you. Literally can't make a wrong choice here. I've tried nearly everything and they are all fantastic! Even things that I normally don't like, such as anything with poppy seeds or cherries, I find myself want more of! And everything is made from scratch! And the owner is from Germany, can't get much more authentic than that!

Dec 22 - Went here shortly before closing and ordered a pretzel and a cinnamon bun they were so memorable I am still in disbelief I had to leave a review. The pretzel was so dry you could throw it through a window after two bites and a work out on the jaw. I proceeded to try the cinnamon bun which had similar traits to the pretzel. Two bite items and straight to the trash, I realize it was close to closing and the freshness may not be the same as opening but this did not taste or feel like anything that was made that day. What surprised me the most was the guy happily sold these items to us.

An authentic German Bakery with real good bread, pastries, sweets and so much more. The pretzels with the butter and mustard was the bomb simply delicious and melted in my mouth! We were traveling when we stop by this lovely town and saw this old looking bakery but wait till you taste their baked goods it’s soo good and reasonably priced. Memorable place!

I've only tried the German rye bread and the soft pretzels, which were both fantastic! The cakes, pastries and breads looked amazing, so I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Leavenworth. The staff was very nice. Super cute exterior. Cash or checks only. This bakery is a ways off the main strip, so you'll most likely have to drive here - it's worth the trip.

Everything was so good. I think this is authentic German baking. Don’t miss this spot if you like baked goods. The puff pastry and raisin bread were yummy. Lovely German person was working there and we had a nice chat. Cash only.

I was pretty disappointed in the quality especially for the exorbitant cost. The young women who helped us was polite and pointed out free samples of 3 breads but that was the only positive. The samples were stale and nothing special but understandable considering they were sitting out. It looks pretty sketchy and broken down outside, nothing like the photos posted. We bought the custard raspberry Danish and chocolate eclair based on another review. They were worse than WinCo. I wouldn't even pay $1 let alone $5+. I get that this is a tourist town and we bought plenty of overpriced food but most of it was at least pretty good. I don't know if this place has gone downhill or what the deal is but I wouldn't bother when there's so many other places.

Take it from a local. Buy your German bread across the street, where they're friendly, at Dan's Market.I bought this "Stollen" at Christmas time for over $20, brought it home and cut it open only to find that it was just a loaf of rye bread, obviously mislabeled. Put it into the freezer to save it for a return. Brought it back to the store and the owner called me a liar and refused to make good on his mistake. All he needed to do was smile, apologize politely and offer a refund or something. But no, he got all huffy and belligerent and accused me of trying to cheat him! Amazing.Really, the homemade German Brown and rye bread across the street is just as good without the attitude. Leave the tourist trap to the tourists.Addendum: My friend tells me that she recently bought a loaf here, cut it open and found a little curly metal shard. She took it back to show the owner. He was neither surprised nor apologetic. He said it was a piece of his pot scrubber and didn't even offer to replace the loaf! Wonderful. Any idea what that could do if it lodged in your intestine? She also told me that, while they show fresh bread on the shelf behind the counter, when you ask for a loaf they reach down behind the counter and give you a pre-wrapped day old loaf if you let then get away with it. So the owner lies, cheats and steals from his customers. No wonder it's cash only.I wouldn't buy a crumb from these people if they were the only bakery in Leavenworth. Which they are not. In addition to Dan's, across the street, there's a wonderful Danish pastry shop on Front St in the middle of town.Addendum:Dan's Market no longer bakes bread. Unfortunate. BYO bread

Stopped by on my way over Steven's pass. Got a few pastries. Lemon loaf was excellent. Those day old danishes are made so good. Thank you.

Surprise that this is only one of the few bakeries in town. I thought they'd have more. Pleasant service and good menu items to snack on with some coffee.

There is a gluten free option! They had gluten-free coconut macarons that were luxurious. My husband and son got a loaf of German rye bread that was still warm and huge pretzels. Everything is handmade, and the owner was so nice.

Almost every year my husband and I come here in the Winter because our anniversary is in November. The 1st thing I want to do is come to this bakery and get some Christollen. It's so good! My husband likes apple streusel. This year we're here early and It looks like they're closed until Friday, but we are leaving Thursday. I'm so disappointed! Excellent baked goods, they haven't disappointed yet!

In September I stayed in LeavenworthI have had apple strudel in Germany with Vanilla sauce. So I went to the Bavarian bakery on Sunday morning. They were sold out of the strudel. But she had a whole one unbaked which I purchase. When I got my bill it was 50.00. For a 24 inch strudel. Unbaked.Took it home and baked it. It was the worst strudel . Almost inedible. More filling than apples and a lattice crust for the top . Very dry very little flavor bland . I wasted 50.00 dollars Don’t buy until you taste it. . Live and learn.Joyce Jost. I am full blooded German
