They had everything we could want for our little three day gettaway. Ice✅️, wood✅️, beer , sausages✅️. Prices were a bit high but fair for the convenience. The employee was very kind and accommodating. Answered all my questions about the area, etc.

Both women in the store were so kind. My fiancé and I stayed in town for a long weekend and stopped in the store a few times and we had a very good experience. They offered advice for hiking and even gave us a free welcome snack!

It’s a small store in the picturesque town of Index. The store is nothing outstanding, carries normal stuffs. You can access the river just crossing the road. It can be a great lunch spot.

Ok so this is a small general store in a very rural, ( and awesome town), with a post office, some camping gear, and some convenience food items. Prices are high as expected. $13 for a six pack of Coors. I get all that. But twice now in 2 days I tried to buy ice and had to pretty much beg them to sell me some. They allowed me to by one bag of ice and told the person behind me “No ice for you” like they were serving soup in a Seinfeld episode. When they unlocked the cooler there was at least 50 bags in there! The lady explained that ice was rare and they had to ration. I really couldn’t even understand her as she didn’t speak much English but I’m sure she understood I wanted 2 bags of ice. She thought the guy behind me was with me and wouldn’t sell him any! Strangest, rudest interactions I’ve ever had in a store.

Their kimchi is spicy and good.Get an ice cream sandwich if it's hot, you won't regret it.They don't take AMEX.This place is kind of a godsend with it's picnic table in the front and cold beverages.

I’m giving this store zero stars because: a friend and I ( both female) walk in at around 8 with the knowledge they closed at 9 and the owner immediately sees us and tells us to hurry up because they close in one min and so we grab our one item and he can’t even look me in my face acting like I was a witch or demon in his store and after their tap doesn’t work he tells me I had a wrong pin when I never put one in and shews us out of his store when I ask to try again. Why have a store if you aren’t going to sell me anything?

They sell outstanding homemade kimchi if that's your thing. Otherwise a pretty standard general store.The owners are an older Korean couple who I've always found to be quite nice. I understand the man can be a bit grumpy, but the complaints I've seen about them sitting down or watching TV behind the counter are baffling. This isn't a 5 star hotel, it's a local general store and they do a fine job. The amount of veiled racism packed into some of the reviews from locals is unsettling.

Surprised by the vast amount of things they manage to carry in such a small space. By no means a full grocery store, but if you're in town and need something, then it doesn't hurt to look. I stopped in to check for tortilla chips and found 5 different kinds. Likewise, they carried so many different sodas. A nice place.

Been coming to this store for years, what's to say? When we camp in the area, we look forward to having the foccacia bread. Sadly some of our favorite campsites are gone from the 2006-2007 wash-out. A lot of good memories camping, hiking, chatting around the camp fire. There has been word to connect the road through Not a major priority for the county.

It's a small town general store and was featured in the indie movie "Captain Fantastic" a few years back. It has a bit of everything you might need in a pinch or forgot to get when you were in town. The owners are Korean immigrants who are not terribly chatty with folks they don't know well but are welcoming and efficient and they keep a lovely little shop. The homemade Kimchee and monster-size chocolate chip cookies are amazing.

Not very friendly and very good at discriminating customers. Just to go in to to check my mail the other day with my boyfriend and was going to buy something at the general index store but got screamed and turned away and pushed out because we were warning the people out side the store that bolt creek fire has been burning which they were going to go hiking but decided to leave instead even though their friend bought something in the store the rest of the group were not interested and left the owners told us we were bad and to leave because we scared their customers we were just warning them because they were about to hike up bolt creek while on fire. And currently 9/15/22 just to walk in again to check our mail didn't know they were closed at 5 because their signs are hard to read with GREEN ink 🙄 they knew it was 5 we didn't know about the different hours walked in for 3 mins then got traumatized by the woman and man shewing us out never go there to shop again they are not friendly to Americans

I live in town and have to go here to get my mail from the post office box (no one in town has a residential mailbox, everyone has a P.O. box located inside the general store that we pay for). The other day I got off work super late and came in right before they closed to grab my mail. I didn’t feel bad doing this since I was not purchasing anything and would be in and out within less than a minute. The door was propped open and there was also another customer checking out at the cash register that left after me. After running into grab my mail I was about 3 feet from walking out the front door and the man yelled at me to NEVER come in their store ever again at that hour! I was completely shocked that he would be so blatantly rude to a local resident that was only there to get their mail and did not cause them any disservice. I also come in here very often to buy random things. I don’t understand why a small business owner would act like this. It’s like they don’t want people to come into their store!! I’ve been overall dissatisfied with the products in this store. They have a massive selection of alcohol, sugary drinks/candy and very little actual groceries. This can make it hard at times when you forget something at the grocery store and your only option is to drive 15 minutes to gold bar. I think it would be easy to stock products that more people would actually want. All in all in combination with the bad customer service, being blatantly rude to local customers that are seen very often in the store and lack of overall attention to detail and enthusiasm for their shop/pride in maintaining your business-something that is a direct reflection of your morals and personality,. I can’t say I enjoyed this store or the man that owns it. The two stars I’ve given go to the Woman who also owns and works here. She always has a quiet kind demeanor and seems to care much more than the man. She has always been nice to me but only after I told her I was a resident. Before that I didn’t receive bad service, it was just very procedural.

This place is not my favourite. I did try to make shopping here about 4 or 5 times, but I rather drive to Gold Bar. It is good enough if you need just some canned food, beer or soda.Compare to last year, this year is little better organized inside and cleaner but anytime I go there I am sure I will find expired products. The most expired was black peppar exp. 1994 but on shelf 2015 - not a joke!In general, locals I know are not happy about this place, quality and customer service can be much better - they say.

We stopped in Index on a general site-seeing tour of the area. The area is of course extremely beautiful due to the mountains and the Skykomish river. It's breathtaking. But we stopped at the general store and got a loaf of the bread that they sell there. It was the best thing I (and all the rest of us) had eaten in a long time. It was awesome. Do not pass by this area without trying the bread from the general store and seeing this gem of a city tucked into the mountains. It was easily the highlight of our day trip.

The Weights and Measures division of the US Gov would have a field day in this store. Things not priced. People charged different amounts. Items taxed which are tax exempt in Washington State. As a consumer there is not much you can do when they are the only store in town.

Three stars because it has climbing guides and some outdoor essentials. Happy it's here, and the town is cool and quaint, but this place is a bit on the dirty side, lacking in friendly customer service and produce that was displayed with mold on it (thumbs up)....Thankfully we were not that hard up for food! But appreciate the Index guide and snickers bar!

Index store has most delicious Kimchi. Just got a jar of Kimchi from a friend lives in Index and I tell you what this Kimchi is one of best ever tasted in my lifetime. By the way I was raised eating Kimchi all my life.Recommend her Kimchi anytime. Very nice couple runs this store.

Store was not very clean.Owner was watching TV and sitting down.Did not even look up or say Hi,Or can i help you.Should of been cleaning store or replacing light bulbs.Very dark inside.Asked for some fish and chips.Got a bad look from her.Told me a least 20 minutes.

Oops my bad forgot facemask...everywhere i have been has NICELY, asked me to wear one or handed me one, ok no problem.This place, i walked in like normal, owner "SHEWED" me away with his hand. "Go go". Um dude, you can use proper english and nicely ask me to go get my facemask which was in my truck, i drove the 8 miles to gold bar for my needs. I will never give this owner another dime. If there was another store in index, this guy would be closed so fast for horrible service. I STRONGLY suggest supporting gold bar if you are heading east and support skykomish if you are headed west. These towns have ALWAYS had friendly service. And yes heads up the store is flipping nasty and overpriced..if your desparate go there. I just buy smokes there.(used to)

I go to this store only as necessary. Every time I go they are rude and never give me the right change back. Thieves. Triple charged on a debit card deal for one sale and argued until bank called them. After today I will go to goldbar and skip these jerks.

Lets talk about how rude these people are just mean old nasty people. I called to ask a question about if something they had something in stock and her responses was and I quote "why dont you come see yourself!" Then hung up on me. WORST people ever. Dont spend your money till it has new owners!

Okay so today I took a walk down to this little store to buy a beer to make beer chicken and it was just before noon and the store lady said you cannot have a bag for Just One Beer so then I had to walk home with a beer in my hand before noon I was embarrassed appalling and shocking one Little Bag I asked her how come she said you you know bag for one beer she was very short rude and abrupt very out of character for the town of index I feel they need a new storekeeper to match the personality of this town cuz these people are rude and not inviting at all I don't think I will ever spend my money in there again but don't let this deter you from coming to the beautiful town of index
