I have been adopting from this shelter for more than 10 years. They are diligent about screening new adoptions. I was grateful they were as detailed and careful as they were with the questions they ask. They even had me submit evidence that I was permitted to have ferrets in my home. They care deeply about the ferrets and want them placed in the best possible and safest home. Kudos to work they do to ensure the care and welfare of the animals they protect! I highly recommend them, but be patient with the process :)

It's clear when you come to this shelter that the people who work here care about ferrets A LOT. It can be frustrating if you expect to just go in and walk away with a new ferret, but it takes a lot of trust and dedication to adopt a pet, and if you are committed to taking care of a ferret in the best way possible, I wouldn't skip this step. The volunteers at WFRS understandably want to make sure that what they do is in the best interests of the ferrets and that sometimes means multiple visits as part of the application, but the tradeoff is that you learn a lot about ferret care and have a great community of other ferret parents (ferrents??) in the area for support. We have fostered 14 ferrets through WFRS so far. Before we got our first ferrets from WFRS, I volunteered at the shelter cleaning cages etc. so I could learn about ferret care and establish rapport with the people who worked there. I ended up fostering (instead of adopting) because they had ferrets who needed medical help. I've included a picture of Noodle, who was an old lady ferret we got for foster/hospice care. I highly recommend working with WFRS for fostering your ferrets; again, it does take time and effort but I can tell you that it is absolutely worth it.

We volunteered here for years between 2014 when we moved away in 2019. They care deeply about their animals, and we even brought in veterinary expertise from Washington State University to help develop our husbandry practices. When we finally lived in a place that would let us have ferrets as pets (our first apartments wouldn't) we adopted 4, Bear, Beau, Byrdie, and Boo. All were wonderfully cared for before we got them, and we gave them good long lives, before they all passed away from old age, or cancer (a big problem with all ferrets). WFRS provided care and advice at all stages of their lives, from the fun parts where we would play with them, to the hard end of life decisions. The staff can be intense, but they are wonderful and caring people, who truly want want is best for the animals in their care. No one there is in it for money. Everyone from the board on down was pouring as much of their own resources as they could spare into the project. As an added bonus, their photography skills are excellent. Picture of our adoptees from a Christmas photoshoot is included.

Love this shelter! I had no experience with ferrets but put in an application to volunteer. Not only were they appreciative and kind but the staff is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. We fostered ferrets from the shelter and adopted them when we moved states. We plan to adopt more from there and fly across the country to get them. Adore Vondelle and Kevin. Their passion is contagious and willingness to educate is a true mark of that passion!

I’ve known and worked with this shelter for close to 20 years. The priority is the ferrets welfare. They will spend as much time as needed to make sure adopters know all they need to give the ferrets a great life. If there is concern that a home may not be a good fit, or isn’t ready to properly care, then the adoption may not happen. If people are interested in learning, the shelter will take whatever time is needed. This is a wealth of information if you’re interested in learning.

Of all the ferret shelters I have visited since 1997, this is the best! I have traveled coast to coast and border to border, including a Canadian location and visited shelters in NC, AR, CT, MA, NH, VA, NY, AK, WA, OR, LA, CO, OH, KY, MD, GA, Toronto and more. There are excellent shelters but this is clean, well-maintained and has their Veterinarian in the same complex. They have a vet tech on-site and carefully check out potential adopters. I am pleased to support this caring and professional shelter. And yes, I've visited both locations and am consistently impressed by the clean, safe environment. This shelter provides great value for your donation. It is worthy of your support.

This is THE PLACE to go if you're looking for a loving and well cared for cat snake! It's obvious how much they care for these babies and strive to ensure that they end up with the best possible home. I remember going in here with one of the owners and one of the ferrets was having a medical emergency and she immediately took action, stepped in to get them help and stabilize them. They go above and beyond for these ferrets!

The director of this rescue is incredibly well-versed and respected for her decades' worth of experience with anything to do with ferrets. Our own rescue has networked with her before regarding the transfer of some more problematic animals and she has taken the absolute BEST care of them.If you want to get your ferret from a place where the wellbeing of the animal comes first, this is where to go!

This is an amazing shelter with some of the most amazing volunteers that work hard daily to make the lives of these precious animals better! They provide the proper medical care and most often go above and beyond when it comes to the lives of ferrets. Their photo shoots with these guys are off the charts amazing and if you haven’t been to one and you’re in that area I suggest you go. 💙

I've known and loved this shelter for 8 years now. I've fostered several ferrets from them, and I can say definitively that you would be hard pressed to find a friendlier or more knowledgeable staff. They've always taught me what to do if there's an emergency and been there to walk me through it when it inevitably happens. They get a 10 out 10 for me!

I was a volunteer for the shelter when I was in high school. I can personally atest to how much the shelter volunteers care about the health and wellness of the ferrets in their facility. I have personally been there when ferrets were surrendered and needed to be taken to the vet immediately. I have personally been there when ferrets were adopted from their shelter into loving families.

I volunteered at the shelter for nearly a decade cleaning cages and/or fostering until I moved away in Sept '23, and I can attest personally to the care, love, and attention given to these magical creatures. Ferrets are often overlooked in animal rescue, and this organization does so much for the pnw community. They are a no-kill shelter and have never, will never turn down a ferret in need. Hands-down my fav non-profit to support.

Over the years, we’ve been owned by four wonderful ferrets from WFRS and have appreciated the way that the dedicated shelter operators care for these amazing little critters. It’s both “a labor of love” and “professional knowledge and expertise.” We are profoundly grateful and hold them in the highest respect, and recommend them to anyone who is not merely interested in adopting, but who is willing to take on all of the responsibilities in providing the necessary care for the wellbeing of their ferrets. Ferrets aren’t “pets for just anybody,” but for the right people they are amazing, and WFRS supports giving them the best-possible homes. Hats off to them!

I have never met a more passionate team of individuals dedicated to the health and wellbeing of ferrets. I feel honored to personally know and have worked with several of the WFRS team over the years with the ferrets in their care and the compassion and love they have for these tiny lives is truly awe inspiring. They are the protectors and advocates of these noble creatures that can’t speak up for themselves in the face of the complications humans often bring to their lives. Whether you are surrendering a ferret to them or trying to adopt/foster one of the ferrets in their expert care, remember, their top priority is and always will be the ferrets, as it should be.~Katie Berge, LVT

Have been in touch with these folks since 2000-One of the most professionally run Ferret Rescue operations in the US.Adoption forms and processes are top-notch, and the volunteers shine for their ferrets - everything revolves around finding the best matching forever home for their furries.👍🏼

They're more likely to give to you if you donate, and the instant you quit donating they will deem you a "poor fit for ferrets to live with". They are very exploitative and use money to control people that are just innocently looking for ferrets - after having our own bad experience we've heard many accounts of people being exploited for donations and the fundraising coordinator either talking poorly of them or straight up harassing them on socials for speaking out. DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS PLACE!

This place is VERY EXPLOITATIVE of people thar donate. They have VERY QUESTIONABLE healthcare practices. After having a bad experience ourselves we've heard MANY accounts of people being exploited, ignored, made fun of, and bad mouthed by the coordinator and others that work here. They HARASS ppl on facebook that review them poorly, thats the ONLY reason that they have positive FB reviews!!!! DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

My family and I have tried to get ahold of this place for 3 years and have never received a phone call back or an email back. I don't even think it's an actual business. Don't call them. You will never receive a response.

We wanted to adopt a ferret as family pet, guy that helped us out, didn't seem interested in letting us adopt one of his ferrets, my wife filled out the application. The person that was helping us said it wouldn't take long to review, and that it would only take a few minutes for him to review, after a while he seemed to change his mind about the adoption, he proceeded to tell us we will hear back, it's been about a week and we haven't heard back. Very disappointing visit to the ferret rescue place.
