Really lovely setting. The rail car ride out was gently down hill so we used the brakes a bit but didn't need to pedal much. However, it's all uphill on the way back. And it is a proper workout. About halfway there I turned on my fitness watch. My heart rate was around 150bpm. My quads were sore the next morning too. So fun experience, but be prepared to physically work for it.

We had a lovely quick trip on the rail cycles. The best thing is that it is a very do-able excursion for almost anyone- we had family aged 10 to 82 and we all had a good time! The trip out is all downhill and barely any pedaling, the return trip is more of a workout. At the turnaround point, it takes a while for the staff to turn all the bikes. Luckily I had a quick game in my bag. We had a couple peek-a-boo views of the top of Mt. Rainier but mostly just trees and farmland to see, still nice scenery. If I were to do it again, I’d bring a picnic lunch to eat at the turnaround and a cushion for everyone to sit on. They did offer cushions at the beginning, most of us just didn’t think we’d need them! Staff was all very friendly and helpful.

Great staff (professional, accommodating, patient) willing to take pictures of your group. Assigned and organized seating.Excited to experience everything they have to offer.Definitely worth the time...For people that don't care for crowds, the weekdays are best... Open 6 days a week...

Had an excellent experience here. Staff was kind and helpful. Going downhill is easy. The real workout was in our way back up. The rest spot didn’t have much, but they were good to put out some games for everyone to enjoy while waiting. We had a 1.5 year old in a front carrier and the adult was not able to use the pedals since the child’s legs were in the way. Just good to know that ahead of time. The dogs were super sweet.

Nice and easy first leg as it is all down hill. Was hoping for a view of the mountain the whole trip, but we only caught a glimpse. We were told to keep 100 feet in between cars and use hand signals to communicate with the car behind you. When the car in front of us stopped we stopped and were yelled at to keep going. Once we arrived at the end it took the staff about 30 minutes to turn all the cars around. We were told to keep the same seats on the way back because there was not enough time for us to adjust a new seat. We felt rushed to complete the return trip. We would like to try the Shelton railcycle but will not if it is run by the same group.

This is a fun outing! It's a unique experience, the staff are great and take good care of everyone. You basically cycle down a slight grade and back up (out and back). This project raises funds for the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railway. It's a rain or shine trip so be prepared. EDIT: You're likely to see elk, you WILL see cattle and beautiful vistas. Follow up with a great meal at the Mill Haus just down the road.

We had a great time. People running it are awesome. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it needs to be longer. It went by too fast.

Interesting place. i am hoping they expand operations in the future to create a better experience. Be prepared to have a work out returning to starting point. it is dowhill (slightly) for 1.5 miles then they turn the cars around and you pedal back up towards the starting point. if its only the two of you with two kids in a car, don't worry about missing your workout in the morning, you'll make up for it here.

We should have came 6/15 however the bikes that were advertised (blue and yellow) were not working. Rescheduled for 7/15, we drive over an hour to be again put in the old bike without a bottom that was not advertised and not safe for a 5 yr old (per Rail Cycles advise). We were rescheduled for today (8/3) and was promised everything would be perfect because of our really bad experience twice thus far. We arrived today to finally a Blue and Yellow bike! However right before we left we were told our car only has 1 break (should have 2) as does the the car in front of us and we would have to be tied to the car in front of us to make 2 breaks on 2 cars. We had already been through so much to get to this point, we weren't going to not go. It was absolutely terrifying!!!!! We had no way to communicate with the car in front that we were tied too going downhill, I was screaming please slow down and no one in the front car could heard me over the noise of the car. Finally we made it to the turn around point and ate. On the way back the crank arm fell off. Thank goodness it did not hurt my husband or our children. They have sent many emails out about the blue and yellow bikes not being ready. After the crank arm broke on the way back, we had to stop to wait for the guide and the car behind us stated their car had a broken seat too. There were 8 cars (1 was a guide), and we know of 3 that went on this trip broken. It's obvious they still aren't ready even though they are wasting people's time. This is $161 for 4 people and is absolutely not worth it. If you had a bad experience, ask for a refund.

Really loved our rail car experience! Highly recommend it. The team was friendly and knowledgeable, the gift shop was very reasonably priced and all round we had a great time. Our kids (4 and 5) loved the ride and the 4 seater cars were easily manageable to pedal with only 2 adults pedaling. Only critical feed back is that the advertising leans heavily towards Mt Rainer views and on the ride itself there are only brief glimpses of the mountain. However there are mountain view’s galore on the drive to and from the location so I didn’t feel like we missed out altogether. Oh and Alder lake campground is only minutes away and gorgeous if you want to make an overnight trip out of it.

We booked this activity opening week and had to change the date as they were not ready. They compensated our group by providing a refund, a free booking and a gift card for dinner which was very kin.The pros: Nice staff, new experience and we felt safe during our ride. The cons: They told us we would be on the track for two hours. We spent more time waiting for the staff to turn around the cars than we did pedaling the cars. I feel that the cost should be closer to $25 per person, not the current rate of $40 that they are charging. There was no view of Mount Rainier on this clear sunny day and all we saw from the tracks was trees and private property and during the time we were there we did not witness the staff wiping down the cars to sanitize and it was so hot people were sweating.

We came in on Friday on the morning tour. We heard great reviews on the railroad and bike system. So my girlfriend and I decided to fly to Washington to see what was going on. We had an amazing experience. I feel like the Executive Director has done a fantastic job turning this railroad around since joining it. It has a nice view of Mt. Rainier and they had some fun games at the turn around. The staff really cares about your experience and they made sure we got a great story about the railroad. Tanner & Cat did a went above and beyond on telling us the great history of the railroad.

We had 8 seats, 2 cars, 3 adults and 5 tween girls. It was over 90 degrees the day we did it, but there is some shade along the way so it wasn't as hot as I was expecting. The first part is gradual downhill which is fun but also quick. Then you hang out at a dirt area with picnic tables for about 40 minutes while they turn the cars around. The ride back is the same way you came down but gradual uphill so requires more pedaling, not hard though any is only 1.5 miles, it was 90 and I wasn't sweating so it's pretty easy. I'll be honest it was fun but it's a little underwhelming, there aren't really any "views" it's mostly woods and fields which is pretty but not quite what I was expecting. The staff were all very nice and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. There's about 10 other groups or so that go when you go, so it's kinda follow the leader style. We did have a few obnoxious teenagers behind us, but that was of no fault to the ride.

Staff were friendly but we had one of the team members join us in our route. Kinda damped our experience. She was on her phone the whole time and laughing through the course. Didn't feel to comfortable talking during the experience. Intermission while they prep the carts could be improved. Not as many views as I expected and hoped for. Good for family adventure.

We had a great time on the night-trip! Left the parking lot a little after 8:15, got down to the bottom and played games under lantern light for a while, then on the trip back up the stars were absolutely incredible. If you bring drinks or snacks, make sure you don't forget a bag like we did! Highly recommend. Had a great time. Thanks, Tanner!!!

We had a great time! My husband and I are pretty competitive and decided to try for racing speed on the way back...not for the faint of heart...Our guide Po was great and pointed out different places to take pictures along the track as well as where we could get some local grub after all the calories we burned!😂 This activity is very do-able for someone in their 1st or 2nd trimester of pregnancy (I am 17 weeks). If your belly is really starting to show your knees may bump your belly a bit!

We had an amazing time and Po was a great guide when he rode in our cart with us. The ride to the picnic area is fun, as it is downhill and you can go fast. The picnic area has some fun games. Coming back was a struggle, as you’re pedaling uphill all the way back. Po was in our cart with us and was fun and amazing to chat with both ways.

I feel this experience is way over priced and false advertisement. It is $40 per person. It is stated that it would be 2 hours long ride. Our group finished the 3 mile trip round trip in just over an hour. It could have been completed in about 35 minutes but you have to get off and let them turn your cycle cart around to go back the way you came.It was a beautiful, clear sunny day and we didn't see Mt. Rainier...once.Way over priced to ride 1.5 miles and then turn around to see the same landscape which doesn't include Mt. Rainier. The staff were friendly. The bathrooms were nice.
