The folks at the front desk are SO nice and helpful, especially would like to call out Jolene for being incredibly great. I haven’t even stayed there yet, but after calling SO many places on the island, the folks at Rosario were the absolute sweetest and best. So excited for my stay.

Great stay, celebrating our anniversary, beautiful location, great grounds and marina. Rooms are good size, meager, but clean and comfortable. Coffee, microwave and fridge, which is great, clean shower with great water pressure. Restaurant and bar are nice, food is excellent. The staff was wonderful, especially Anika at the front desk, was very friendly, and helpful, her professionalism and sincerity made the stay even better! Highly recommend and we'll be back!Rooms: Rooms are meager, however clean and comfortable.Nearby activities: Beautiful area and grounds, great scenery.

The main building and grounds are beautiful! The mansion features a museum, a pool and spa, and a restaurant. The pool was clean and relaxing, the museum had beautiful architecture, and the food at the restaurant was tasty. They seemed a bit short staffed, but the servers were polite and helpful even with a bunch of boomers yelling at them about having to wait. The rooms were the least impressive, we stayed in building 1900 and it was pretty dated (not in the good way). The roads up to the condos were really rough too. Appreciated the EV charger at the marina!Rooms: Need updating and a deep cleanNearby activities: Museum, pools, spa, restaurant, marina

This was our first time here and we had a wonderful trip to the Rosario Resort! We went during the off-season and things there were pretty quiet, which was really nice. The grounds were well kept, though there were some signs of its age due to weathering and necessary concrete repairs. Walking around the resort was fun as it was fairly large with a lot to see. We found some chairs near the main building and spent a lot of time just enjoying the view of bay.Our two queens bedroom was comfortable. It wasn't the most modern, but it definitely has been updated with new bells and whistles recently. We enjoyed our view from the deck as and spent a lot of time looking out over the water. We even watched a pack of 5 otters playing down on a log in the water!Unfortunately, the only restaurant open was The Mansion, and the food seemed a little too fancy for our taste, so we didn't have a chance to try it.Overall, we really enjoyed our time there and look forward to coming back again!

Lovely room up high on hillside. Excellent bed, bedding, comfy couch and gas fireplace, small deck with gorgeous view. Too far to walk to mansion activities. Spa did not include mani pedi. We chose to explore Moran State Park and its lakes rather than sit poolside. We did attend an EXCELLENT historical presentation about the creation of the resort--with a concert pianist, interesting photos and stories with time to explore the house afterward. We highly recommend you make time to attend. I believe it is at 4pm every week day, but be sure to ask!Food & drinks: Excellent dinner at the mansion. So so at the cafe.Noteworthy details: We sailed for the day with friends who joined us for dinner at the mansion. Incredible day!

Returning to Rosario last week was very special for me. I worked in the kitchen in various positions 45 years ago and have happy memories of that experience while staying in my little sailboat in the marina. My wife planned a special anniversary trip for us and we enjoyed two nights in building 23, the furthest from the Mansion. The walk is pleasant—you pass by the pool, the canal, the marina, and some blackberry bushes that were still yielding a few tasty morsels. The location and the staff were truly highlights of our visit—I hope the place is able to continue to hire people who enjoy being there and understand the nostalgic experience it is for many of us old timers. Host Robert, Server Emily, Kitchen staffer Juan Pablo, and Front Desk staffer Michael were all exceptional! Truly kind and patient and delightful to speak with. It was fun to watch the yachts and sailboats move in and out of Cascade Bay in front of the resort. We were not informed by the front desk as to the piano concert offered upstairs every afternoon at 4pm. We missed it the first evening but luckily caught it the second—WELL WORTH attending! Great music and presentation by pianist and composer Christopher Peacock, including PowerPoint slide show of Robert Moran’s photos and history, including the early days of Rosario Mansion.*Be forwarned—you will have a fairly long walk outside to your room (unless you like up a ride or drive), the walls are bare with absolutely no decor, and there were many stains on our carpet and chairs. (AND it cost almost $600 for the two nights! I would like to see the quality cleaned up for that kind of money.) Also, while we’re thrilled that locals have time slots in which they are able to use the facilities, having kids loudly using the pool and hot tub did not make for a relaxing experience. If you also like to quietly Relax in the hot tub, plan ahead to avoid those times.*Upside—the view is Fantastic! And getting to have access to this historic Mansion is a wonderful experience. It is a unique place with a lot of history, and almost all of the staff we met were wonderful, very patient with my story telling and willing to engage in conversation about the Mansion and life on the island. It was a special trip to a very special spot in the San Juan Islands.

I just went in with my mother to the cafe for a hot beverage on a crisp morning, after some hiking. Location is great, beautiful views. However, the service at the cafe left a lot to be desired. My mom waited for a long time to be even seated. She does not speak English very well, and I honestly don't know if that was the problem, but as soon as I showed up (I speak English fairly well), we were seated. It was so bad that they gave us the order for free. At least they tried to compensate the bad experience. All that said, the walk in the gardens was pleasant.

While the place is a bit dated, it’s in an ideal location with incredible views. Service at The Mansion restaurant was great, but not sure what the front desk folks do. Keys have stopped working and they said we need to come down to get them. It’s at minimum a 10 min walk down to the lobby from our room. I asked to be transferred to a friends room and was asked many questions, lacking trust like I’m going to be calling random people as a 37 year old adult? Just a bit odd. Oh, with cell service also non-existent, the desk won’t call shuttles or taxis on your behalf.

The positives: There were beautiful marketing pictures and the staff were very kind. The location is also stellar. Being near the park and the sound were both wonderful. The negatives: The room was much more outdated than expected. Also, the restaurant left much to be desired. The cost didn’t match the quality. I ordered seafood paella and a burger. The fries and San Juan Sour were the best part of the menu. I was hoping for better sea food considering the location. Please keep in mind that the remote location makes it hard to get high quality food, but for $40 a plate I was hoping for more than frozen peas. Also keep in mind the hours. Check in is at 4, but the spa services close at 5. Also, they were closed the following day so there was no food or services available on the day of our check out.

We stayed on our boat at the marina but we did eat at both restaurants and used the spa. We absolutely loved it and will return in the future! The mansion and history of the place are super neat. The general manager plays the historic organ and baby grand piano to slideshows of photos out of the original builders collection! The outdoor pool is warm with amazing views of the bay, and they will serve you drinks made by the mixologist out there!

We stayed two nights in June here and staying at Rosario Resort was a let down in a few ways. Before I get into what went wrong, there are two stand-out employees that deserve mention. Riley at the front desk is amazing. The second is I believe the facilities manager or physical plant director, he seems to run the place but also delivers ice to rooms, etc. Very responsive. What went wrong? First, the photos on their website definitely oversold the actual rooms. It may be helpful to know that only the mansion - where there are no guest rooms - is historic. The lodging is in outbuildings far away from the mansion and look to not have been updated since being built, and based on appearances I'd say that was 25-30 years ago. By appearances it feels as if the marketing of the Rosario is that it was a resort destination in a long ago era (for example, the photos in the spa/pool area are not of the property, but do give the appearance that long ago people stayed here). The mansion has some impressive areas, none of which benefit you in your stay, and so much of the property seems underutilized or neglected. The biggest issue we ran into was level of service. We were in a suite-style room. On the property map it shows where we can find ice and vending machines. Instead we found an empty room full of leaves and debris - where it seems very long ago there once may have been an ice machine. On our first evening, we were considering eating in the dining room. Dessert was most important to us - so that was going to determine where we ate. We looked at the menus, didn't see a dessert listing, so I asked an employee (dressed as a server, behind the bar prepping for the evening) and she told me she couldn't tell me what the desserts are, which is a silly response. I went back out front and we asked the host - who seemed really annoyed we were looking over the menus, but when we asked our question, he took us back to the bar and asked the same staff person for us. In response she looked very annoyed and said "I am not going to inform you of the desserts because we run out of them sometimes." This is just unacceptable for a few reasons. First, why be rude to a customer asking a reasonable question? Second, it was 4pm, surely the kitchen knows what's on the dessert menu. Another staff member standing behind the bar realized what terrible customer service this was and said she had seen them working on macaroons and strawberry shortcake. We decided not to eat there, not only based on this exchange, but because of a few other factors (hearing kitchen employees complain about their jobs, etc.). As it turns out, the desserts are plated up on the other side of a glass window in the lobby, so I was able to stand in the lobby and READ the whiteboard list of desserts (why again was the server so rude?) and as I watched a cook plate them up I was not at all impressed with the quality. For what this place charges and for the level of restaurant they sell themselves to be, it struck me that the level of care, pride and food did not match the image of the place. The views are very pretty, and you are close to Moran State Park. The room was clean. I had to call and ask for towels. I had to call to ask for ice. Both were brought to the room quickly. The hot water worked. But clean rooms and hot water are a pretty low bar.My overall impression is quite poor, and given that the property is again for sale, I cannot see it getting better any time soon.

Big recommendation for this spot on Orcas. We spent our anniversary here and felt that it was a perfect blend of convenience and accommodation. Rooms are clean and well maintained despite being a bit older. No smells or bedbugs and the rooms were quiet. We stayed in their hillside suites and had a great view of the bay from our deck. The spa was a hit with my wife and the Mansion restaurant is a sure bet for some of the finer cuisine on the island. We stayed in the cooler month of September so we didn’t contend with crowds but also didn’t get the full summer experience that the resort grounds promise; it was just not warm enough, not their fault. Quiet, romantic aesthetic.Would definitely recommend for a finer stay if you don’t prefer camping or AirBnb. The road to the resort is 100yds from the entrance to Moran State Park so adventure is minutes away.Rooms: Clean, well maintained, a bit dated.Safety: Quiet, safe.Walkability: Walkable on the resort grounds with some steep hills. Fairly remote on the island, requires car to venture other places.

We eloped on the island this past December and planned a nice dinner at the Rosario. They were great to work with and very accommodating considering it was the off season and right around the holidays. The island was hit with a big winter storm the day before and despite the weather changing the original plans of our evening, the Rosario adapted and provided a beautiful setting for us to celebrate our marriage. We had fantastic service from Gary who offered great recommendations, brought joy to our meal, and made the evening special. The food and drinks were delicious - we can't wait to visit again!

This is one of the historic stops of Orcas. There is a self-guided tour on the second floor that will lead you through an interesting history of Robert Moran and the "Showplace of the San Juan Islands". The house mansion/hotel was built to be self-sufficient. Funnily enough, once most of Robert's family moved into the hotel, there were only two additional rooms for tenants. The majority of the guests would camp outside the hotel and then attend the noteworthy meals prepared in the large mansion's kitchen. There is now a Spa hosted in the hotel and the gardens are quite pleasant for a walk.

I am only sharing information about the resort's museum and the 60 minute presentation that the resort's manager, Christopher Peacock, does. We arrived at the resort by sailboat and caught one of their nine buoys. Overnight, 6 of the buoys remained available. We went over to the resort and walked through the second floor museum area. The building's architecture is fascinating as it was built by Robert Moran who was known as an marine engineer who designed and built boats. The resort's architecture resembles that of old steamships, very interesting. Sturdy and stylish. The rooms all had modern fixtures for its day. The best part of our visit, and the reason we came, was to hear Christopher play the piano, the pipe organ, and talk about the history of the resort. We heard him 19 years ago and figured it was time to hear him again. This 60 minutes is time well spent! Highly recommend it.

My wife and I met here at the mansion 30 years ago so we thought it would be nice to say here as we approach our 30th anniversary. The pro: The View. The cons: The pictures on the website are either old or photoshopped to hide the real condition of the rooms. The carpet in our room was filthy and stained in so many places it should have been replaced a long time ago. It was so bad no one wanted to walk on it with bare feet. It is piling and visibly damaged in spots. Our fully cleaned room had something all over the headboard that was not cleaned, and they had left used face clothes from the last guest hanging in the bathroom once it was all cleaned. The furniture is worn and has not been serviced in a long time. The patio screen has a large gap as the top allowing anything a screen is designed to keep out easy access to the room, that is when it is not falling out onto the deck. Both robes in our room are so thread bare they have holes in them. The Wi-Fi will not connect on any of the three devices we brought with us.When we brought these issues to the attention of the front desk it was no surprise to them but alas the resort is full so they were unable to move us to another room. This is not a premium resort experience, yet it commands a premium resort price either for what the name meant in the past or the location. Sadly I have had better experiences in motels in little towns with no view for hundreds of dollars less a night.I know that the resort is for sale and my hope is that they find a buyer that is willing to put some time and money into the accommodations as even the locals in town home about the conditions of the rooms.Rooms: Old, dated and dirty.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rosario Resort onboard our boat. Great facilities, multiple swimming pools, hiking trail to a nearby lake, ... Very friendly and knowledgeable employees. This would have been a 5-star rating except for the lack of maintenance and attention to detail both on the structures and especially the grounds hard scape and vegetation. Some examples: piling caps missing, vegetation growing over the sidewalks, rotting wood on buildings, rock retaining walls failing, ...

NOT an opinion about staying there - just passing through on a road trip. If you're driving around the island, it's a great stop for some history. An upper floor contains museum rooms and a beautiful music room with stained glass windows and a tiffany-glass ceiling light. Downstairs is a shop and you can walk around the historic pool, which looks fun.

I always love staying here... The rooms aren't fancy, but very comfortable. I'd stay here during the off-season to avoid the crowds. Great location with views. The grounds are great to explore. Very close to hiking trails to Moran State Park. My room was right on the water. I know they've been trying to find a buyer for a while now... recently saw they want to turn the place into a "Suncadia" type of resort... That's sooooo basic. Horrible. Raises the prices 500% and doesn't offer anything special.

My husband and I spent the weekend there for our babymoon and Rosario Resort FAR exceeded our expectations! It was almost a magical experience. The food was absolutely perfection, especially brunch! The blueberry muffin, bacon, fruit, potatoes, crab cake benedict, biscuits and gravy were outstanding! You could tell the ingredients were locally sourced and super fresh! Kuddos to the chefs! Waitstaff, managers, hosts and front desk were accommodating, friendly and professional! The moment we walked in from check-in to unfortunately having to check-out was absolutely fantastic! The Spa services were so clean, the massage and facial rooms were relaxing with amazing views. Kuddos to Lisa and Gina for amazing services! Even the ladies checking us into the pool were so sweet and nice and made our time here fantastic. The views were spectacular, calm and peaceful! The rooms are like 1980's stuck in time. Outdated but so clean you would think no one has ever stayed there before. The views from the balcony were incredible! Bed was very comfortable and the entire unit was spacious! We cannot wait to come back and bring all the kids next time!Rooms: Rooms are a little far from the main Mansion where the spa, pools and restaurant is, so you will have to drive a little or walk about 10 min to get there. Minor inconvenience that we didn't realize before we booked. If you are pregnant or don't want to walk much, book the Honeymoon suite which is right off the Mansion and in the middle of everything!Food & drinks: We recommend eating all your meals at the Mansion Restaurant, but if you venture out into town, White Horse Pub was fantastic and great views!

Simply stunning! The haunted history of the resort is just the icing on the cake of this fabulous and amazing resort. It feels like you're living a scene from a movie - Somewhere In Time or Dirty Dancing. The staff is kind and helpful and also fun. There are two restaurants on the resort location, one super fancy (the Mansion) and one that's more of a diner. There's also a general store if you forget sunscreen like we did. Walking between the various rooms to the main resort takes a few minutes, but it's a gorgeous, scenic view the whole way. And if you're lugging bags, they have a shuttle. They offer whale watching trips straight from the dock, spa activities in the mansion, an indoor pool, outdoor pool (with a bar) and a family friendly pool as well. Lots of activities all around, live music that fabulously echoes across the resort. The entire experience was magical.

I was grabbing dinner and went downstairs to their boutique to kill time while waiting for friends. I collect shopping bags and they had one for $2, so the sign said. But when I paid, the salesperson said it was $3 and when I asked about the discrepancy, she said maybe it's because of tax! 50% tax?! She didn't offer to match the signage price and just said that's what's in their computer and she'll need to take down the sign. I get it, it's only a $1, but I would expect better customer service from an establishment like the Rosario.

I never do reviews but this place needed one.We arrived in a boat after touring the resorts of desolation sound and San Juan Islands. We were super excited to visit this resort based on the amenities .Needless to say the culture at this resort restaurant from the bartender and host was horrible and by far the worst experience of all our stops.6 of us went up to dinner 30 min early to get some drinks and socialize when we were told the bar seats were reserved and never offer to serve us drinks. While they were not overwhelmed or even that busy.We asked the host if we could get some drinks while we were waiting but said we needed to wait for our table in a snarky tone. This was a Wednesday night mid summer.Never have been told this at a bar or restaurant in my life!!We would have easily spent another hundred or so dollars at the bar.So we waited 40 min for our table and then waited about 10 min before anyone waited on us.Then about another 20 minutes to get our first drink. 70 minutes later yeah !!We did get warm water with no ice that taste terrible ( a 200 reverse osmosis system would fix the taste issue) I asked for ice and it came 10 minutes later. It took 3 beers before they had one in stock on the menuIt took 3 wine asks before one was in stock on the menuThen he came back and told us they had no ginger beer for a Moscow mule someone orderedWe just had to laughThe food was so soThey tried to serve us food 3 times that was not ours .This restaurant needs new leadership from the initial greeting from the bartender, host to waitersVery disappointing after being excited for another fun stop !!!This was not lack of help but bad management and culture!!!!

We stayed in the Roundhouse Suite to celebrate our birthdays. It was perfect for 2 people and it's SO nice having a separate building from other people. The furniture is outdated which isn't a big deal. The bed was really comfortable. We loved the suite and our only complaint was that it needed a really good vacuuming as there were food crumbs and dust bunnies under the bed and in the area by the fireplace. There was also a vase of dead flowers on the mantle, I think they were just overlooked. Wifi was not great but it encourages you to stay off your phone.I saw harbor seals and eagles in the mornings while sitting on the porch. We took a long walk around the grounds, the property is beautiful and while it could use some maintenance it is charming. We ate at the grill by the marina one night and our server was excellent. We also ate in the mansion for breakfast one morning, food was tasty. Make sure to check out the museum upstairs in the mansion and the shop in the basement. They have some really cute and different offerings. I am looking forward to my next trip to Rosario.
