I would give it less stars, but it won’t allow that, This store has a broken cooler and they refused to stock the kombucha anywhere else in their store! It’s ridiculous! They even refused to put a sign up, saying they are no longer selling it. A very disappointed customer!

Pre made salads and other prepared foods were of very low quality. Staff seemed pretty unhappy. Store was clean but did not represent the Safeway quality I have found at other locations. Disappointing.

This is the only major grocery store in the town of chewelah. It is average size and has been here for along time so do not expect a store with big city size. But they more than make up for it with friendly and smiling employees even now during the nationwide crisis. They are going out of their way to keep what stock they have available to the public.

Safeway on US Hwy 395 through Chewelah: chockful grab-&-go self-service cases adjacent to the full-service deli; clean restroom near the entrance; fresh potted plants right out front; clean parking lot. This store is well-organized, clean, tightly packed with SO MANY items in a small footprint. Well done. Love how the local Safeway expresses that town's character.

This store is consistently under staffed with long lines for both staffed and self checkout. I’ve been told management gets bonuses on reducing labor costs. So much for their customer experience and being forced into self checkout.

Huge thank you to Jan P. (Hope I got the name right). I drove up from Spokane for a doc appointment and apparently the doctor still requires facemasks. I didn't have one, looked around in my car for one and nothing. I wouldn't be able to get into my appointment without one. I went to Safeway to see if I could buy a couple and they didn't have any to buy. Jan went way out of her way to find me a mask. She went to her own stash grabbed a few out and gave them to me. Jan it's people like you that this world needs more of. I appreciate you so very much. If you get a chance to go to Safeway make sure to stop in and say Hi to this amazing person! Jan thank you again, you saved me and my situation today!!!!

Typical Safeway, produce selection is kinda dull. Biggest complaint is the Safeway APP. It's absolutely SUCKS!! I enter my phone number, I scan products on sale, but it never takes the discounts off. I'm giving this store a 2 star because everytime I have to tell the cashier to double check and they usually say they did and they didn't. So I have to go back into the store to the customer service to get my refund. Just like everyplace else sense 2020 service has gone down the crapper.

Horrible, horrible business. I had a wonderful experience with a young lady this afternoon named Dereka, who happily corrected prices for me that weren't ringing up properly (for the hundredth time I have shopped here). The management in this place is rude and condescending, they treat their customers and employees like things to be used. What happened gold standard Safeway customer service from 20 odd years ago? You people will be losing MANY very loyal customers if you don't get your act together.

This store has been horrible for years. Frequently empty shelves, frequently empty produce section. I can’t count the number of times something didn’t ring up correctly. Or the number of times there are no checkers at rush hour. The employees are nice, no problem there. But so poorly managed. They’re the only grocery store in town, so they can be terrible, there’s nowhere else to shop. Chewelah desperately needs a new grocery store to move in and force Safeway to step up their game.

Prices marked are not what I ended up paying. I am a club card holder.I remarked that the price I saw when selecting products were not ringing up as marked. I was referred to customer service counter. The service agent asked if I entered the digital coupons for products? What is the reason for club card if you need to pour through the phone or computer to save?I will not be returning to shop with this company .

Cashiers and other employees are great always. The down side the produce is often either out of stock or on its way to being bad. Basic canned goods are out of stock. Meat very overpriced.

Workers here are great but management is sadly lacking. Today, a holiday weekend and no check stands open....only self check out. I left a cart full of things for them to put back. Manager seems to be asleep at the helm. Items that are on sale are often not available here and very limited selection on other items.

The store is very crowded with displays and such; it is extremely difficult to shop there if you are disabled. When they are restocking the shelves the customer is treated like they should stay out of the way; not customers come first. This is a small retirement town. The store should reflect that.

I'm so happy that we have an AWESOME Safeway here in Chewelah! Everyone is friendly, helpful and quick to say hello. As a vegan, I especially appreciate the broad selection of plant-based products in all sections of the store, as well as the willingness to expand the selection. Recent times have been hard on the businesses, as periodic empty shelves demonstrate, but the staff keeps up a brave face and continues to shine in their service.

The customer is definitely not first here..... I worked for Safeway as a young adult my manager would have been appalled by the lack of customer service and quality control. They'd have twice the business if they seemed to care.

I been shopping here for 30 years. Horrible vegetables, lettuce is brown inside, bagged lettuce turns brown the after its opened, I don't buy fruit or veggies here at all. Waste if money and it just goes into the garbage!

I was almost done shopping with a basket full of things I really needed and the lights went out... Not terribly surprising in Chewelah... What WAS surprising was there was no backup plan and an entire store full of shoppers had to leave without their items.

Good item selection but deli was very over whelmed when asked to make their special and just really slow about doing anything asked to prepare food. A deli worker was in the rest room the entire time I shopped and waited for 2 fish sandwiches and a 8 piece dark meat chicken 🍗 to be prepared I ordered then tryed to use rest room. I shopped bought items paid then still waited in line the 2nd time for a should have a simple order on the friday special. Still unable to use rest room.

Was a good place to shop until a worker there named leza i think was her name. As i was using self checkout she was talking badly about other customers that shop there. She has been doing this for some time causing promblems between customers families and relationship, she is known as the town ride of safeway. Now that dollar general is open safeway will be loosing business from this employee and the drama she brings to customers

This Safeway may be an older building and smaller, for the small town, but the people really strive to make it our best. You’ll never get the cold shoulder here and good luck walking past the deli without them asking how they could serve you. I recommend this store for anyone.

This Safeway is consistently bad. Almost always out of major staples in dairy and produce departments. The store is typically under-staffed and customer service is terrible. If there were any other option in town, and I mean anybody else, this store would be out of business. Only stop if you’re desperate, on second thought, don’t stop if you’re desperate; you’ll leave empty handed.
