This was my second visit at the Society Hotel and I had a great time. Driving through the gorge this time of year is perfect (try to get to the scenic part of gorge a bit before golden hour and you won't be disappointed). And then checking in at the hotel was super easy. The vibes are immaculate, the beds are so comfy even in the big shared hostel-style rooms. My time in the spa was so, so relaxing. The cafe is convenient for grabbing a coffee and some snacks and then there are ample spaces to hang out, read a book, and enjoy the beautiful views in and around the space. I can't recommend this place highly enough.Nearby activities: I drove just 5 minutes up the hill to White Salmon and had an amazing breakfast with a beautiful view of Mt Hood. Hood River is an quick drive away (plus a toll) with lots more great restaurants and shops.

We stayed here for a weekend getaway. Splurged on a cabin, which was nice, but the property lacked privacy and views. Be prepared to hear a train horn almost hourly throughout the night, even with earplugs. The lobby was cute and had some nice snack and drink options, but we were super disappointed in the spa. It was small, overly crowded, and dirty, and the staff were short. We had day passes and were told there would be some special accommodations at check-in, but instead, the spa staff seemed inconvenienced to even tell us where to find towels. Maybe this is better as a hostel experience, but for a luxury hotel stay, I wouldn’t recommend it.Update: The General Manager reached out and exceeded what most establishments would do to make things right. I appreciate their efforts to improve and bumped up my rating by a star for that reason.

we stayed in the bunk rooms with their common area by far the best lodging in the place. the microwaves and fridges were a plus as well as the free coffee in the morning.the staff did their best to manage the properties overly complex room and "pool" reservations. i will not be returning for multiple reasons including being charged for this stay 1 week in advance of our arrival. we were a party of 3 and wanted the bill split into 3. not possible they said as my card had already been billed for the stay when we arrived for check in.the "pools" were merely large built in hot tubs, they were tiny!!! the hot and warm spa pools were reeking of chlorine and my skin was so dry after just the first soak. another reason i will not be returning.there were not that many people there so why go thru the gyrations of reserving time in the pools? totally not worth the effort. again i will not be returning.the resort proximity to the railroad tracks and whistling trains sucks for sleeping. the resort mentions this but does not say how many trains. it was all day and all night.do yourself a favor and book a bunk or room up the hill at the white salmon inn.Rooms: rooms are scandi minimalist, some of the larger room we looked in did not even have a bedside table for a glass of water.Nearby activities: the gorge is full of great outdoor views and activities.Food & drinks: it was nice to have the cafe with snacks and bar for drinks if you want.

My partner and I stayed here for a holiday weekend and it was lovely. The decor was beautiful and whoever chose the green paint color deserves a high five. Because of the holiday, it wasn’t crowded so we felt like we really got to enjoy our experience. The spa was so nice. They had a warm pool, hot pool (outside), a cold pool, as well as a sauna. It was a bit smaller than expected, but not bad. I was relieved to see that the spa area provided water so the guests didn’t have to worry about bringing their own. They also had kombucha on tap, which was amazing! Because it wasn’t busy, my partner and I were able to stay in the spa area longer than the time slot allowed and the front desk had no issue with it. The only thing I wish was different about our stay was the food options the hotel provided. While they did have some good breakfast/snack options, it wasn’t enough to fulfill a dinner. Hood River isn’t far away, but it would be nice to not have to drive to pick something up. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and I’d come back again.

I used their lobby as a cafe working away for 3 hours. The staff was very nice, the latte was creamy and aromatic. I had the avocado toast -- which I would award 4 out of 5 stars as it was missing a bit of garnish and spices. However, most importantly, as I had stopped to get some urgent work done while being on the road, I appreciated the ease with which I was able to connect to the internet and get some stuff done seated at one of the long wooden tables with convenient outlets underneath. The hotel lobby and bathroom was tasteful and clean. I would certainly consider staying here.

I've been to the Society twice: once with a group of friends who all stayed in a bunk room and once with my husband and toddler. Bunks were comfortable, well designed, and cozy. Traveling with a little one is always chaotic, and but thoughtful, kind service at The Society helped our trip go smoothly. The ability to text the front desk was especially appreciated, since I had to change our family soak appointment at the last minute while nap trapped! The gym on site is fun for the kiddos to run around in bad weather, and the cafe has a nice selection of snacks and drinks.Walkability: There are a few restaurants in downtown Bingen and there is a safe sidewalk on the road parallel to Highway 14, just up the hill.

I spent last weekend on a solo retreat at the Society Hotel and had a fantastic time! The bathhouse is the star of the show, with a hot tub, cold plunge, warm salt pool, and sauna, which I used every day of my stay and thoroughly enjoyed. The cafe is serviceable, if a little limited because of their small kitchen, but the staff was kind and helpful. I stayed in one of the private rooms in the lodge, which was quiet and very clean. My only wish was for a little more storage, which I know is tricky in that small a space. Even a chair by the bedside would have been a welcome addition to rest my phone and glasses during the night. Overall, I had a lovely, restorative visit!

We stayed in the schoolhouse. A solid 3 star hotel, with the best food in town. The food elsewhere is terrible, and the cafe at society is pretty good for a small town. The building is cute and old, but definitely not of high quality. The rooms are very small and the heater barely kept it warm enough for example. Overall though, a good value for the $ and we'd go back. One really strange thing that pulled down the rating is you have to reserve time to go to the spa and just sit in the hot tub, and you only get an hour per day guaranteed per visit....they should allow people unlimited time in the spa.

I came here for a birthday trip and the hotel provided excellent communication and accommodation of 13 guests! We stayed in the bunk rooms and everyone was raving the next morning about how comfortable and cozy the bunks were! I wanted to take the bed and all the bedding home and swap out for my own 😂. The highlight of all was the spa area with the soaking pools! We could have spent all day in there!Another note was that everything felt extremely clean and smelled amazing - the bathrooms, the sheets, the water in the pools. Such a relaxing experience. Cannot wait to come back!

We enjoyed our stay but it was overpriced for what it was. The "cabin" we stayed in felt utilitarian and lacked comfortable seating. Minimalist to the point of being cold - they are trying to be chic but missed the mark. There were no gentle lighting options, just overhead lights and a cold white lantern. There were also some small annoying things, like only being given a micro sponge for the kitchen but being asked to wash all dishes before leaving (something I expect from an Airbnb but not a hotel). The spa was lovely.

I followed The Society Hotel Bingen on IG ages ago and was so excited to try out the accommodations for an annual girls trip. Unfortunately after our three night stay I left fairly disappointed.Check In: My friend and I arrived about an hour and a half prior to check-in. I was told at the front desk that our room was not ready, but we would receive a text message if it were ready early. I never received a text for early check-in - no big deal. However, when I returned at 1615 (check-in is advertised as 1600), I was told by front desk staff off-handedly that they “thought” my room should be ready. It was in fact ready, but if check-in is at 1600, why would my room not have been ready? And why not check to make sure rather than say something dismissive to a customer checking in?Parking: The hotel has a gravel parking lot and I input my car’s license plate as requested prior to our arrival. Thursday night parking was not an issue. However, Friday and Saturday nights the parking lot was absolutely bursting. In my opinion each reservation should be allowed one car parked in the lot. Overflow parking includes side streets around the property in the surrounding neighborhood. Also, there was a parking spot immediately next to the stairs to the main building marked ‘Employee of the Month’. The spot remained empty for my entire stay on the property. There was staff parking in a different area of the property - why not place the ‘Employee of the Month’ spot in an employee designated area rather than the already overcrowded guest lot?Housekeeping: Upon arrival to our cabin, we noticed some trash under the bench seat that was missed when the unit was cleaned, but that was not the biggest deal. However, the ants were. In the bedroom I stayed in, ants were all over the shelving unit. My bedroom was the furthest from the kitchen area and the ants were exclusively on the shelving unit - nowhere else - which indicated a possible infestation problem. When I stopped by the front desk, I was told by the staff “Well - it is spring”. Staff agreed to have housekeeping come by to clean and place traps, though when we returned to our room later that afternoon it was clear no one had been by. The next day we made sure our housekeeping sign was out and requested a clean. However when we returned to the cabin around 1600 our room had not been serviced. It was frustrating to say the least, but my friend was not feeling well and wanted to lay down for a nap. Housekeeping finally came by around 1630 and left linen at our request, but did not take away the dirty bathroom linen. Instead we were left with a plastic linen bag to fill ourselves, which baffled me.Spa: The spa is a European style spa with a cold plunge, warm pool, hot pool and sauna. The spa itself was enjoyable. However, the spa attendants were intermittently lax in allowing guests to stay longer than the allotted hour and strict requiring guest to leave the spa exactly at the end of their allotted time. There is also no way to directly call the spa - you must either book/cancel everything online or go in person. On a positive note both our facials were excellent. The esthetician was knowledgeable and we loved the last minute 30% deal, which I am sure they use to fill spots so definitely use it if offered!Final Thoughts - The lax attitude of the front desk staff and the housekeeping issues makes a $1300 three night stay very overpriced. The parking issues also added to my frustrations during our stay. The property is well located to all the sights of the Gorge. However, our experience at The Society definitely did not match the price tag or the upscale experience their marketing promises.

We celebrated our 20 year anniversary at this lovely Scandinavian style hotel. The cabin was well appointed and comfy, the spa bathhouse was relaxing, the hotel grounds are a delight, and the area is charming.Rooms: The cabins are a dream and a great getaway for a romantic weekend, or have options if you want to bring the kids and dog.Food & drinks: The cafe and library are fun and comfortable! It’s a great place to grab a drink and chill in oversized leather seats.Noteworthy details: A fun site for a group! There’s a bunk room in the main lodge which would so fun to book with a bunch of friends.

Just stopped in on an impromptu road trip. I’ve been following on insta forever and have always wanted to stay for a girls weekend. We stopped to see if they would give a quick tour of the spa and or rooms and the Karen at the desk said no we don’t do that. You’ll have to book an appointment. Didn’t even offer to show a map, just sent us away.

If you want peace and quiet and a place to get away from it all. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO!!!!The room had black out curtains! Good! The room was extremely small. Double bed and just enough room to walk around it. It had a sink and shelves and hooks. 2 old fashion small children's school chairs. Way too small for this tall person. The worst part for me was the sounds in the hallway. Every time a door opened and closed I could hear it and it greatly disturbed my sleep. The mattress caused my back to hurt. The second worst part was the music in the main area. It was the only place to hang out in the winter time, since the room was so small, I could not really hang out there, and I went there for peace and quiet and there was no place to escape the music or the sounds in the hallways.I did consider leaving but was too tired to do the drive home. Staying was a mistake because my sleep suffered greatly, despite the ear plugs, white noise machine. The only quiet place I could go to was the sanctuary, which was very nice, but it was a little bit of a walk to get to so not convenient + plus lots of doors and gates to get there. The other thing that was bothersome was the gates and doors and locks that had to be dealt with every time you left your room. For me to get to the hot tubs, it was 4 doors and 2 gates. For me to get back to the room, I needed to use the room key 4 times!! It was rather cumbersome to deal with. Why did they not put a door to the “cabins” in the back of the school house? Then you could go out the back door to the tubs be already in the locked area - so no gate to open/close. Plus you did not have to walk into the main lobby area with your bathrobe on to get to the hot tubs. The hot tubs were OK. I thought there would be NO Chlorine but I was wrong. It was salt water and chlorine. I could not stay in the tubs the full hour because the smell of the chlorine was making me sick.I would consider going back with a group of people and stay in the cabin, less doors, probably quieter, but I am not sure. The people that worked there were very helpful. The room was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean.

Been taking my kids to play in the gym to get some energy out in the cold winter months. They claim the gym open to the public as long as you order a drink from their café. Over time it became clear they do not want kids there or anyone outside their targeted customer base. Staff made uncalled for comments. Not community friendly. Not kid friendly.

This was our first stop on our honeymoon. The actual location of the Society is nothing special, but it is great for going to Hood River or staying on the Washington side.My husband and I stayed in a cabin. It was plenty spacious and we always travel with our own sound machine, so the train noise was not at all a problem for us. The room still felt like a cabin but it was cutely decorated and I loved the shower. The hammocks and picnic tables outside each cabin are an awesome touch. The grounds are landscaped nicely. We did not use the cafe so I cannot speak to the food and drink. We loved using the spa, but I honestly felt the pools were a little dirty. Filled with sand in the corners and saw lots of stray hairs. We went to the spa one night during quiet hours and people were basically yelling half the time, which did not make for a peaceful experience. I was surprised they weren't asked to quiet down since the spa staff seemed very on top of everything else. The spa was one of our main reasons for staying here.I have never read as many policies and rules at a hotel before as they have here, but I understand it's probably necessary to keep things in line for the hostel part of the hotel.Overall, we enjoyed our stay. I would look into returning, but I might also explore other hotel options in the area.

I've been twice now and feel like I've experienced The Society Hotel enough to leave a solid, honest review. My husband and I stayed here last year and splurged on a cabin. It was small but very well thought out, and we had everything we needed despite the size. The cafe is cute and has a nice variety of food and drinks to offer. It was great to pop in for breakfast, or for a snack or coffee after a soak. I enjoyed being able to walk over to my spa appointment each day in the robe provided by the hotel, and booked spa appointments that must not have been during peak hours, because the overall experience was that it was not very crowded. This past weekend, however, I had a very different experience there that was not all that positive. I was planning to be in the area, so I decided to make a drop-in appointment at the spa. I arrived early and had a delicious salad and matcha latte at the cafe, then went to check in for my spa appointment, which I had booked for 1:30pm. I was told that they clean the spa between 12:30-1:30, and not to go over even a minute before 1:30 because the gates would be locked. When I arrived at 1:30 there was an incredibly long line of people waiting to check-in and get their towels. Once I got up to the counter, the person working was extremely rude and acted like I was being a nuisance just by asking for a water cup. I was told I needed to shower before getting into the spa, so, again, I had to wait in a very long line since there are only three showers (one of which is reserved for handicapped guests). There is only one changing room and two bathrooms, so it was 15 minutes after my appointment started before I actually got to use the spa. Crowded is not the word for it...it was packed. I felt like sardine in a tin can trying to use the outdoor pool, and there was a wait, once again, every time I wanted to use the cold plunge. When I got ready to leave, there was another wait for showers/bathrooms, and literally nowhere to stand. I spent the last 15 minutes of my spa time trying to get into a shower, and then trying to find somewhere to actually get dressed. Based on this experience, I probably won't come back. I felt unwelcome and rushed, and the lack of room to move around was a real bummer. Society Hotel: please expand your locker room in the spa! It really sucks to not have space to move around, or even a mirror to check yourself in when you get ready to leave. Also, having everyone check in at the exact same time just cause a ridiculous line of people waiting for showers, etc. Additionally, I don't know what they were "cleaning" for an hour before I arrived, but the locker room was filthy. Hair everywhere in the shower and the floors were so dirty that I had to wash my feet in the sink by the cafe before I could put my shoes on.

My stay here was incredible. I was on a little solo 2 night trip just up from Portland and I felt so comfortable being there on my own. It was nice to have the communal areas when I felt like socializing but also had my own quite room to go to. The spa was everything I was hoping for. Going there to soak after long hikes during the day, and drinking the delicious spa water to rehydrate was perfection and so restoring. Highly recommend!

This was my third time staying at the Society and I’ve now had the pleasure of staying at the cabins, the private rooms & the hostel rooms. Each was thought out down to the smallest detail. The spaces are small, but well laid out and thoughtful. I appreciate that the staff is also very laid back, they don’t feel fake or like they have customer service voices, they just seem like they do their jobs well and treat guests with kindness and want to help. The entire lobby area is a ✨vibe✨ & the cafe coffee is outstanding. The spa feels like you’ve been transported to some European relaxation vacation. The system of the spa is my favorite because it prioritizes hotel guests for certain times and ensures it isn’t overcrowded. I also love the constant towels and water that you can rotate out for - makes the entire thing easier. 10/10 would recommend for a beautiful gorge getaway.

Fun place to stay close to everything. We stayed 2 nights in a king bedroom with shared bath. Was a little hesitant about having to share a bathroom, but they have plenty of private bathrooms. Lots of little spots around the property to have quiet moments with your spouse. The cafe was great! The taro latte and morning bowl were my favorites. The spa was amazing! 830pm - 1030pm is the best time to go. Do the plunge, it was invigorating.

Due to the secluded location this was a very nice stay. But buyer beware, the school house rooms are not quiet. You can still hear the trains just as loudly as in the bunk room. There’s about six trains that go by. Also if you book a room last, you will get room 1, which is by the front door that opens and closes all night (to include the bathroom doors since there are none in the rooms). And/or room 2 which is right by the storage closet where the employees grab things and organize in the middle of the night. On the other hand, the amenities outweigh the negative! Would highly recommend utilizing the sanctuary for meditation or yoga. Plus, the spa access is a great incentive to book a stay. The food, the drinks and the customer service are great! Overall very relaxing ambience except for the lack sleep. I would go back.

I have nothing but positive reviews to say about The Soceity as a whole. Back in 2019 I stumbled across their Portland location by accident and had an amazing time. I wasn’t able to make to to the Bingen location at their launch, so I told myself I’d eventually get there.I took a solo trip to the Bingen location in August and had a wonderful time. I arrived a few hours early and was able to get checked in by the receptionist who was very friendly about it. The first thing I noticed was how cool the lounge was when I first got there.I stayed in the bunk room (which I stayed in while in Portland) and had a wonderful time. The bedding is great, pillows are comfy, had my own light and outlet in the bunk. Quiet times are from 10pm - 8am which everyone staying in the bunk room respected. In fact, I hardly heard a peep from anyone else staying in the bunk room with me. There are trains that pass by but I used their ear plugs and heard NOTHING.They offer lockers inside the bunk room as well as lockers outside the bunk room in the seating area / kitchenette area. They are first come first serve and do not come with a lock. There’s also 6 individual bathrooms just outside the bunk room and two mini refrigerators available for use, just be sure to label you items. The spa was ABSOLUTELY amazing. It was really the biggest reason I decided to go. There is a reservation system where you need to book your reservation online. There were days I was able to book multiple bookings due to the demand being low, your experience may be different. They also have a gymnasium with kettle bells, basketball court, corn hole, large connect 4 and a foosball table. The kettlebells were a nice surprise since they do not have a gym as an amenity. All the amenities listed are available to use for someone with a reservation.I highly recommend this place for anyone and I’m hoping to go back and stay in a cabin. I really hope the owners expand to other states and locations. I would go to every location!!!
