A local coffee shop/cafe inside an indie bookstore? What’s not to love?! The cafe is located on the 3rd floor of Village Books in Bellingham. (The stairs up are at the back of the bookstore on the left side, or take the elevator up.)The menu has delicious filling food that’s all locally sourced, hot/cold coffee & tea drinks, and fresh baked pastries & treats at the counter. They have gluten free options too. They do close earlier than the bookstore, so be sure to go early… it’s a great place for a late morning/early afternoon bite to eat.Their polenta bowl is one of my faves, and is shareable (for 2 people). I also like the key lime pie. And their biscuits are yummy too! 😋Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free food & pastry options.

Located on the 3rd floor of Village Books. This unassuming cafe has lots of ample seating, bright natural light, and good coffee.Lots of assorted pastries and more hearty items.Great spot to do some work/read, catch up.The service was very friendly.

I’ve been here a couple of times and have enjoyed my drink and food. There’s a little savory ham thing that’s really tasty. The service is pretty slow though. We waited for a good 20 minutes for our coffee only to have one be wrong. You’re kinda stuck at that point. I received a too sweet mocha full of caffeine when I ordered a decaf latte. The person offered to remake it, but it took so long my friend would be done with hers by the time I received mine. For just two coffees the service is painfully slow. I’d go back for the savory food but think twice considering the slow service. Hit and a miss.

My experience with the service and servers on a very recent visit was about as bad as it gets. I was pressed for time as I had an acupuncture treatment coming up. The person who took my order indicated no problem - the place was nearly empty, I only ordered a sandwich, and there were three people milling around in the kitchen. After at least 15 minutes, I checked back to see how much longer it would be - with the possibility of getting a no prep ready to eat item. The same fellow who had taken my order assured me that my sandwich was just being completed and would be out very shortly. At least five more minutes, and two other orders passed by, but no sign of mine. I went back up to the counter: my order had not been STARTED. A party of three came up, behind me. I told them that I hoped they weren't in a hurry as the place was slow. The woman who was now waiting on me told me that I was spreading rumors and creating a toxic atmoshere, and that I should leave. This isn't quite the end of the story, but it should suffice.p.s. I ordered in, but ended up having to take the sandwich with me both on account of the negative reaction of the staff and the fact I had 0 time left to spare.

On a very slow day, we were asked to leave because they don’t allow laptops at the restaurant. I’ve never been to a coffee shop/cafe that didn’t allow you to do homework. I’ll buy better, cheaper, coffee somewhere else. And the food is truly not good. Got a mushroom pastry and it was frozen. Super bad service too. Not sure why you’d make people leave if they’re alone doing homework and buying coffee. Can’t wait for this place to go out of business!

Went for the first time at new location for a beer pairing dinner inspired by a book. The food was excellent. The space was lovely. The chef is awesome and the staff are friendly and helpful. 100% worth a visit. I would say the menu I was lucky to try isn't a standard offering but certainly indicative of the talent and quality offered here.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon, something I’ve ordered before with no concerns. Today, however, the Bacon was significantly burned, I didn’t return the sandwich as they were closing early for an event. I took most of the bacon out, but the burnt smell permeated. The serving staff was empathetic, but there’s no way that the cook couldn’t have seen that the Bacon was burnt. Not a good experience. Unsure if I will return.

This is a wonderful little cafe nestled away on the second floor of Village Books. Entrees revolve around a variety of soups, salads and dishes that lean toward middle-eastern cuisine, but they also prepare some yummy looking sandwiches. Evolve also features a coffee bar, wonderful desserts and pastries and, the name says it all, chocolate!Chocolate, Coffee, Desserts, Pastries, Sandwiches, Wine, Salads, Soups, Wine and Sandwiches -- all prepared fresh, primarily from locally sourced ingredients in a world-class, independent bookstore with a view "to die for!"

Great vegetarian/vegan options. My husband and I loved our meal at Evolve SO much that we went up to the counter specifically to compliment the chef before going back to the book store. Oh and of course we had to buy some pastries too, which were equally excellent. We had a salad, soup, polenta bowl, and lentil hand pie, and all were amazing. So richly flavorful and creative. I wish we had time to visit again during our time in Bellingham. Highly recommended!

One of the best cafes I've enjoyed in the past few years. I absolutely loved the sipping chocolate, the espresso was delicious and so were their chocolate truffles. They have a great selection of pastries and excellent lunch options. The atmosphere is relaxed and unfussy with plenty of tables and great views from the windows. Highly recommended!

Had the avocado toast (minus the eggs as I'm vegan) and chai tea latte. Just wonderful!I took a picture of the avocado toast after I was done with 75% of it - I was too hungry to take a picture of the whole plate when they brought it to the table 😂

So this place...albeit that it's in a book store, not for me. This Cafe has more food than pastries but they are like a vegan/vegetarian/holistic health food place like you'd find in CA where it's pricey and the flavors are..well..absent...so were the blueberries that were supposed to be in my pastry...but I digress. My coffee order was messed up and then I was kicked from the main dining hall because I had my computer on the table doing work...and that was a no-no..Seriously dude? I'm also pretty sure the dude that took my order was high and sadly, I was not or this experience would have been better. So really, a 2 star event but I gave 3 stars for the view and the location. Everything else was bulla.

I was so hungry, I didn't even glance at the amazing bookstore downstairs. Had a polenta bowl with veggies. Very tasty and plentiful (3 meals for me). AND the most delicious gluten free ginger cookie. A beautiful view from my table by the window. Very friendly and kind service.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options

Phenomenal hidden gem of a restaurant - my husband and I agree this is our favorite restaurant in the Bellingham area. The dishes are inventive, flavorful, and filling (affordable too!), with a focus on fresh and local. Great vegetarian options and plenty for the meat lovers as well. Our favorites include the potato cakes and the lamb pie. The dessert options are fabulous with a large selection of gluten-free. My only complaint is they close too early for dinners most days. Try them out, you will not be disappointed!

Was having a holiday lunch with friends. I had a great vegan soup, full of flavor. Hot but not burn you hot. Tried the cheddar "biscuits" they are why this place received 4 stars. They were not biscuits. They had a texture of bread, not a biscuit. The restaurant is very clean. Tables are socially distanced with beautiful curtains between. Over all, I was happy to dine here for the first to time in 3 years. I do have to say with the chocolate cake you should have made a orange curd. Orange and Chocolate are a perfect pair. Lemon and chocolate not so much.
