Went with a friend to help him adopt a cat. The cats living conditions were amazing, they have plenty of spaces not in little cages. They have AC for the up coming summer time. I’ve donated to this location because of that. Great and friendly staff as well. Please consider donating to them to keep this location alive!

Love all animals. I have 3 cats myself-feral kitten I trapped and feral adult cat that I fed and petted before he walked in the front door. I signed up to Foster Cats. My first Foster cat-Blackbeard -totally black went from hiding under a daybed and biting from fear to eating from my hand. All the shelter folks are so generous with their time to save animals. I added them to my Estate Planning as I respect them so much.

Stopped in on Sunday 10/29 to chat about some cats they had there. Staff was very friendly and happy to help/answer questions we had. Ended up taking 2 year old Olaf home and could not be happier with our decision. The cats they do have there look like they are well cared for and have a nice space of their own while they wait to go to new homes. Thank you everyone at AVHS!

We are looking to adopt a dog, they do a wonderful job of keeping available animals updated and providing the dogs temperament and health. Many animals are relinquished due to behavioral issues, they don't shy away from sharing these with you, and I appreciate this. We were interested in a dog that was being fostered at this time. They provided current foster updates, again much appreciated.

My dog ran away. Thankfully he was found and taken to the humane society. The crew took good care of my dog. The only bad thing was, I had to pay money and fees for pet insurance. Honestly kinda suck that I was forced to pay money to get my own pet back, but at least he was safe and I got him back safely.

We got our crazy boy Salem from here. They even let him go home with a blanket so he would have a familiar scent. The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional. The clinic is clean and well laid out. The cats all had nice spaces and didn't seem stressed.

Came here to check out the adoption for a kitten. They were very helpful and answered all my questions and let me and my daughter spend time with a pair of siblings that we did wind up adopting because we couldn't just adopt one and not the other. They also give you a packet that has all their health information and what to do and look for after their spay or neuter and a coupon for your first vet visit for their checkup.Overall great experience and the employees were awesome.

Very good place to find a pet to take care of. Animals are treated well. The place is clean throughout. The staff are friendly and helpful. We've adopted two cats from here.

Every time i feel like I need a new pet, they always have the sweetest little cats! They are already socialized and really good with people, and aren't super expensive. I currently have two cats from this shelter, a mostly black one i got in April and a kitten I adopted last week! Both are super sweet, i recommend adopting here

This is where we adopted both of our current cats. The first one a few years ago and the second one 2 weeks ago. AVHS has individual rooms and kennels for all the animals (unless they're siblings) and a great open door policy for visiting and meeting furry friends. AVHS staff seem rather generous in identifying the age of cats, so we keep getting 9 month old kittens (Normally $165) for the price of an adult ($95) because they were misidentified as 1.5 & 3 years old. FYI - older, well trained animals are often only $25. The price includes spay/neuter, shots, license & chip, a cat blanket, zip lock bag of food, and a voucher for a free initial vet exam! They make it really easy to adopt - paperwork & briefing take about 30 minutes - and will even throw in a cat carrier box for a few bucks if you don't have your own carrier. They even have a 30 day return policy for "store credit" if things don't work out. So plan on leaving with a furry friend or two if you show up here! Edit: Holiday prices in picture!

Found a dog running in traffic and took the little guy to auburn humane society. It was a Thursday and they were closed apparently but people were still there— when they answered the door they REFUSED to take him. What kind of humane society does that? They told me to call animal control (which is actually the auburn police dept) and after getting jerked around a wonderful auburn animal control person came and collected them. Clearly this place does not care about your pets.

It always makes me sad to go here.... I want to take all the animals home with me....Very clean, not many cats or dogs there... There were a few bunnies if you're looking for one. Good service & friendly employees.

Such great and helpful staff ! I came in a week ago and bonded with this cute little girl named Lendora. I waited too long and someone adopted her first (no hard feelings I’m sure that sweetie pie has the best forever home). I came in a couple of times, and by my third visit one of the ladies at the front desk told me about this little guy. She showed me him and his brother, and was equally passionate about me going home with a kitten cause I was coming in multiple times bonding with cats and kittens left and right, and told them about my story with my last esa animal. She had me put him on hold (25$ fee that doesn’t go towards adoption fee) , and the staff was VERY flexible in the window time of me picking him up. I just kept in contact with them since I work in Seattle and they obviously close at 6pm everyday. I picked him up the next day (thanks to the amazing manager at another location that I was filling in for letting me go early). I won’t lie first couple of nights were not the easiest. He just got spayed, and was a stray so his trust level of me, the other humans, and house he is now living in was non existent. But by the third day he was purring and loving on everyone, and I gained his trust via squeezable treats. I just woke up to him staring into my soul, and yearning for a good head and chin scratch from his momma. Horus is such a sweet, sociable, curious, adventurous, and independent kitty. He loves a good brush session and as long as he’s receiving some form of petting he doesn’t mind me touching his paws. Unfortunately though we did have to go back to the shelter and get a e-collar, go home, and put on the cone of shame… but he seems to have adjusted quickly and very well to his forever home. Thank you to the staff for helping me find the best ESA cat I could’ve ever asked for !Key’arra J.

I came across a very scared and dirty labradoodle, that had been lost or abandoned by a local camping area. I was able to bring the dog here. They were very compassionate and welcoming. The poor thing, it looked like its paw was injured and very skinny. AHS didnt hesitate. Did a quick run down of how they will take care if the animal making me feel comfortable leaving the dog there. I love dogs but not in the position to care for it myself.

We got our precious little Mittens from here. She couldn't be more of a delight. They were fantastic, being a no kill shelter and privately owned I couldn't recommend them more!

I love the staff here! Very helpful and passionate about what they do. This location is very clean and inviting to spend some time with your possible next fur baby. Their auctions are amazing and can't wait for the next one!

This place is HORRiBLE! The front desk lady with the long hair and rotten tooth just pulled a fast one on me. In went to look at the dog below after a young gal did look at him but said she needed to go talk to her apartment complex first . She was advised by this lady that they can’t hold the dog , that it’s first come first serve . So , in that time I asked to visit with the dog and she told me I had to wait five min for someone to come help from the back and ironically the young lady came back while I was being stalled . The front desk lady gave it to her anyway even after she left and I was waiting to see the dog . It was done deliberately and in this type of case I think they should have done what would be in the dogs best interest. I live on a half acre and the other person lives in a apt with a toddler .. I voiced my frustration to this person and she said too bad ! My husband even called from work and she said too bad and slammed the phone down ……. It’s sad to this happen at a place like this !

The staff are very polite and sweet and even though we selected a cat that was on adoption hold, they made sure to call as soon as she was able to be adopted. They had a tablet for any and all questions. Please, adopt an animal

Man, getting a cat spayed and taking em into a world of today's pain for tomorrow's lasting pleasure was nerve wracking. The team here did their best to make the kitty cat (and myself!) comfortable and safe...last night, while she was doped up on post-op, she was hard to deal with, as is to be expected, but now she's sound asleep and I expect now a steady recovery. Thanks AVHS!

My husband and I recently adopted a little kitten 2 months old. Although it was in the paperwork, they chose not to tell us that he had had a hernia corrected when he was neutered, or that he survived parvo. Information that would have been nice if they had told us straight up. Now I just noticed that our kitten has what looks like a BAD infestation of ear mites. Those are caused by other infected cats and he hasn’t been near a cat since the day we adopted him. What next!?! They need to be forthcoming with ALL information they have about each animal and tell people straight up. I am very disappointed and will never adopt from them again.

From front desk staff to volunteers and the vet treating animals before adopted out, we had a great experience at AVHS! Our new furry family member is adjusting to her new home. Thank you for taking care of her while she waited for her new forever home.

We adopted a lovely cat here and the people at the adoption center were very nice and they allowed us to see the cat in person. The adoption process was very simple, we wrote a form and we got a tablet which explained the final process and we got the cat.

I believe in their work and adopting. I have adopted multiple companions over the years. Once you get their trust, they are the most lovable companion you have ever had. A caution, though... The highest intelligence rating is your two year old child. And always will be. Will not sit in your lap or tolerate children. They are hilarious with all the antics and games they invent. They require a few hours of attention a day or will get into mischief. Which isn't on them as they were ignored..and the center of your attention. Kids or not home much.. A lap cat is your best bet.

Great experience if you're looking to adopt. We came in for one animal but came out with two. Fast, easy & friendly process. Reasonably cost as well as so many loving animals you can check out and have a meet & greet session. You'll be amazed at how quick the process is as well as the cost. We were not disappoint, kids loved their animals & wishing more people & families look into adopting a loving pet.

So disappointed that a young dog that they had for a while, couldn't be reduced in price.I need a little dog to help me get out of bed.Mine died two months ago..😢 but now, I'm fostering an eighteen month old border collie.. Excellent, really way - off the awesome chart.. And so smart.. Gonna miss him...when it comes around to that time.. Here's Snoop.,

I was a little bit dissapointed. I was looking for a lost pit bull. I saw that one was brought in from around the location the dog was stolen from.. there was no picture online. I tried to call to get a discription, i couldnt get through. First my directions led me to a thrift store that supports the humane society.. which had a lot of cool stuff.. then I asked for the location that dogs are actually kept.. when I got there they said updates are made every 6 mins and they have not had any pitties come in for at least a week. It was my choice to try knowing there was no picture. It also could be related to my service and the amount of tech difficulties I have. However I do think the website was a little misleading. It is a great thing that the thrift shop raises money for the Humane Society.. The cause is very appreciated, but the info I was given online is misleading! I would post a few pictures however, technical difficulties once again.
