We stayed in the cottage in “off season” and for the price of a private cottage I don’t feel like it was worth it, seemed to be cleaned pretty superficially. The photos looked nice & we chose it based on the location to the ferry (which is great) but in the future I’d stay else where. Staff had multiple miscommunications regarding our reservation with a pet & additional fees to be paid (trying ti charge me additional pet fees upon check out after telling me at check in everything for my dog was paid). Continental breakfast…. Eh. I’ll leave it at that.

We look forward to our stay here every time we come to Anacortes! The rooms are well maintained and the decor is pleasant as well. Immediately upon entering the room, it smells clean, but not from cleaning agents, but because they seem to keep it nice and clean. And last but not least.... THE VIEWS ARE SPECTACULAR!! It is wonderful to see all the wildlife (deer, rabbits and all kinds of birds) and the ferries coming and going from the islands. We wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else when we visit the area.Rooms: Fantastic!!Nearby activities: Easily drive to Whidbey Island where you can enjoy the parks, hiking, wineries, delicious seafood options, and cute shopping towns.Walkability: Walking distance to the ferry terminal.

*edited to add response to “owner’s” response*I’ve been accused of lying now, which I find very amusing. It makes me question if the actual owner is responding to these reviews or the same night “manager”. Frankly, it doesn’t matter but I will continue to repeat my story to anyone who suggests Ship Harbor Inn as a place to stay. The owner can contact me at any time to clear the air - she knows how to get ahold of me.*end edit*Several weeks ago I booked a room here for a couple nights, as I do about twice a year and have done for quite a number of years either by myself or with my family. Being an islander, I’ve always enjoyed a discount, as it’s already expensive enough living here. This time was different. I arrived to check in and noticed the discount wasn’t applied. When I pointed it out to the young man who is the night manager, he snarkily said to me that “there are no discounts.” I replied that I’m an islander and we always get a discount, and that’s why I always have stayed there and remained loyal to them. He said “not tonight.” I carefully responded that his response was really disappointing and really makes me not want to be a loyal customer anymore. He replied that “I’ve worked here longer than you’ve been around and we don’t ever do discounts.”I’ve called several times to speak to the owner, but every time I’ve called he and his female coworker have played gatekeeper and won’t even offer to take down my number for the owner to call me back.I run a small business on Orcas and would never treat my customers like this. I’ve been telling everyone I know on every local group in the San Juan Islands to never stay at the Ship Harbor Inn because of this disappointing experience.

The property is terrific, that's why I rated it 3 stars. My room was nicely furnished, very clean, and had a beautiful view.Breakfast was adequate, with fresh waffles available - a nice extra. The 'new' booking system failed to impress me, and the office staff were not particularly service oriented.I called and reserved a room using a card, intending to pay cash when I arrived. Surprise, surprise - due to a mistake on the part of the person I spoke to, my arrival date was noted a day early. As a result the full amount was billed to my card the day before I arrived, and I was basically told 'tough stuff'. They would not credit my card and allow me to pay with cash. Maybe that's a Washington State thing, cash is not accepted in many situations. One more reason to avoid the entire left coast in my opinion. If you have to visit the area, the Ship Harbor Inn is not a bad choice, even though my experience was less than ideal.

Extremely hard to find, rude night attendant, jetted tub didn't work someone knocked on my door causing my dog to growl and bark causing me to wake up and continued to. Continental breakfast was a joke. There was no restaurant on site as advertised. Great view thoughFood & drinks: Breakfast was a jokeNoteworthy details: You can park close to your room..

The mattress is good. Pillows are the best. The room is small but adequate. This place is clean & comfortable. The grounds are very nice with outside chairs to enjoy the view. I slept well here & woke up rested. I had the location with 3 stars, there is no attraction here except for the view. The view & cozy quiet rooms makes this place great & a place I would like to bring my wife. I need to add on the staff is great, nice & polite.

Just camp down lower level and it was awesome, they have some trails you can walk with such a beautiful scenery and the ferry is just right there if you want to go to another island.Walkability: It's a place where you can go for walks, as far as the rooms really never stood inside but the outside is very nice and it's pretty quiet place.

Pros: Clean, friendly service very accommodating with booking even upgraded to suite with no extra cost, great view, quiet comfortable room.Cons: Spotty unreliable wifi, staff shortages, inconvenient breakfast policy (had to ask for waffle batter as they won't leave it out, this means walking out to main office to ask for some each time you want some).Overall very nice place I would stay there again, despite the cons.

Booked a room for our mini-moon with a jacuzzi tub and double shower. It's location walking distance to the ferry and the ship harbor interpretive site was a huge benefit. Only a ten minute drive into town and the view from the room was gorgeous.Nearby activities: Short walk to the ferry

This was a nice Inn. We saw deer grazing in the courtyard and the view was pretty nice. The housekeepers were kind and considerate. The breakfast was good, but no plates or utensils to go. The TV service was fairly outdated, but I didn't really care too much about that. I contemplated 3 stars, because of a few factors. The room we stayed in was very modest, with a very tiny bathroom and kind of wonky shower. When we arrived, the room was less than 50 degrees and took awhile to warm up... I know other places turn on the heat prior to your arrival, especially when a little cold out. We were traveling with a baby, so cold was not a plus. The 5 minute walk to the ferry included part of road with no sidewalk, thus very unsafe. Last but not least, there was no Bible in the room. I looked everywhere. I realize this is Washington I am talking about, and God forbid someone might be offended by a Bible... but I was genuinely upset that one was not even hidden away. A little pricey for what it is, but that too is Washington.

This is not a five star only because we felt like our room was super small for a 200$ room. Other than that, we had a great experience. The room and bathroom were clean, the views were stunning, there was a fire place with outdoor seating, breakfast and parking was free, etc. The highlight of this place is definitely the view and its proximity to the Ferry station. It is also a 15min drive to Anacortes downtown, where there are options for food. For breakfast, they had eggs, milk, cerals, juice, fruits, yogurt, etc. We will come back if we visit this area again.

We had a cabin, think small apartment. Older but nice. Clean and smelled fresh.Had an EV charger, yay! Porch in the front. The only 'complaint ' I have is the porch light stays on all the time. I understand why, but maybe add thicker curtains that close all the way. Would stay again

This was my second time staying at Ship Harbor Inn and like the first, this trip was wonderful. We ended up getting in early and not only were able to check in upon arrival, but Dan helped us with some questions we had regarding our reservations. All staff we encountered were really approachable and helpful. You get a lot more than expected with this place as there's a nice fire pit and barbecue area outside and a beautiful grassy area next to it that you can enjoy while out. It's also less than ten minutes from the ferry which made traveling less stressful. There were deer and rabbits around and we were able to experience the outdoors even after our day trip to San Juan Island. We'll be staying here again next time we plan a trip to the islands.

We ended up not staying here so I will not take away stars from this establishment. However learn from my mistakes!!!We. Booked. Though. A. Third. Party. Site. (Expedia)My husband made the reservation, could not find where to add that we had pets on the reservation form, so wrote a note to let them know.He immediately got an email from the hotel stating that he must call immediately because pets are only allowed in certain rooms. He called. They told him he would have to upgrade from the room he had chosen and pay an additional $100 for pet fees. So our $134 room became $389. He asked to cancel, they told him he had to cancel through Expedia. He called Expedia, they told him they had to call the hotel and get permission to cancel the reservation. Expedia called the hotel, the girl refused to cancel the reservation. They tried for over an hour to fix this.Once he got off the phone we went back and forth for hours trying to decide what we'll do because we now had a hotel room that only 3 of us could stay in.So we headed up there with the intention of the girls stay in the hotel and husband gets a different hotel with the puppies.About two hours into our drive I called the hotel to make sure everything was set since there was so much back and forth the day before. (everything in writing stating the would not cancel the room)I spoke with the manager/owner "just checking on my husband's reservation" and she said. "Oh. That reservation. Has. Been. Canceled!"She was polite, I was angry. We had been up half the night trying to salvage a spur of the moment vacation. We ended up staying at the nicest Best Western ever. But, if you are going to make hotel reservations, please!!!!! Just call the hotel. So many things can be avoided by not using third party sites.I wish this hotel well, but we will never stay there and never recommend them to anyone.

My husband and I are disabled and reserved a king bed room for our anniversary. Shortly after booking the room we received a message from the Inn stating that they did not have a king bed room, only a queen. And that they would change the reservation to the queen, and if we didn't want it we could cancel it. We replied to their email and thanked them and told them we did not want the room. We expected that would take care of it. On 8/18 we were charged for the room = $243! Even though we had replied to their email message cancelling it. Upon contacting the Inn and explaining our situation, we were told that apparently we were supposed to reply to their message a different way. But there were no instructions in their message telling us how we were supposed to contact them to cancel it. We explained to them that both me and my husband are both disabled and we must have a king size bed due to our disabilities. We provided them a copy of our reply to their email stating we did not want the queen bed and to please cancel it. But it didn't matter. We are both older and we aren't very good with the internet. Had we been told how we were supposed to cancel the revised reservation we absolutely would have done so. We had to make a reservation elsewhere, so now we have had to pay for rooms at two hotels for the same night! We are on a fixed income and now we can't pay our bills. We saved up for months for our trip and are heartbroken! We will never go there again. Nor should you!!

Tired and worn. Great location, but desperately needs maintenance. It's not a little quaint place that the photos reflect. It's a two-story motel like most other neglected roadside motels.Asked for a noon checkout and was told they were too busy. It was a winter Monday last week, and my car was the only car in the lot.

The rooms have mice. We stayed for 4 nights and the third night my brother felt something crawl on him. Thought it might be a bug no big deal. Woke up to mouse droppings in the bathroom and on our luggage. We had been getting room service and keeping the room clean and tidy.Went to front desk to let them know and the first thing she said was “if you want a discount that’s not happening.”Overall before this I thought the inn had seen better days. Now I know it’s a dirty property with poor management. Avoid.

This is an update in response to the owners response: wow so the owner is lying to save face. There were rooms ready and available as soon as we got there but they still charged $50. We did not get a “guaranteed 1 PM check in” the other guests we know got there an hour after us and did not pay an extra fee. Why the lies? Second they had no tooth brushes. We asked and they said they did not have any and the wall in which you could purchase some did not have any either. She directed us to a store almost a mile away. Why would I lie about them not having tooth brushes….. wow stay away from this shady place. The hotel was cute for the price. However the check in process was not very friendly nor understanding. We booked here for one night because we were attending a wedding which started at 2:30PM. We arrived around 12:30 PM and we needed to quickly change and put our stuff in the room so we could head to the venue. Upon arrival we were informed that check in was not until 3PM. We explained the situation and they were not understanding at all in fact she was very rude. She told us we needed to pay an extra $50 to check in early. We get that but the room is available and it is not that big of a difference -we just needed to change for the wedding being that we drove about 2 hours to get there. We had no choice but to pay it but it felt very unfriendly and unpersonable. We weren’t trying to get a longer stay we just simply didn’t think of checking the check in time when we booked since the room was for changing and sleeping. The fact that they had the room available anyways and made us pay extra rubbed me the wrong way. But the most frustrating part was that we found out there were other wedding guests who also booked here and checked in early. They were NOT asked to pay the $50 fee for checking in early! Anacortes is a beautiful area but we will not be back. Absolutely ridiculous seems so heartless and money hungry. We did not eat the morning breakfast and we were barley even there but they had to get that extra $50. Hope it was worth it!(They also do not carry toothbrushes, there weren’t any complementary nor to purchase we had to drive to the nearest store to buy them.)-we did try and talk to management the next morning when we checked out around 10:00 AM to ask why the other guests were not charged the fee but the lobby was locked and there was no one to be found.Book somewhere more personable and understanding to each situation.
