I don’t normally leave a review, of any kind, but this place is too good not to! Such a hidden gem. Crazy close to the Jefferson Pools and the Homestead. Adorable rooms, and breakfast is included and brought to your door! The Waterwheel restaurant is on site and has a surprisingly incredible menu, but also an ambiance that can’t be beat. We usually go to the Jefferson at the Omni, but this won our hearts, and palates. We are (kind of) foodies and we’re really impressed with the menu and the service. We love everything about this adorable place and cannot wait to come back!

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on Saturday the 20th of January to Sunday the 21st, at the Gristmill Inn. The Barley room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Originally we booked the Loft room, but because of some issues, we couldn’t stay there. Kate was very accommodating and kind about the matter. We appreciated that greatly! We had a great pickled shrimp appetizer and seafood for our dinner. The chocolate mousse and espresso ice cream dessert was very nice too!Thank you for being one of the nicest places in our area. We will be back. Best Regards, Jeff and Susanna

What a gem! From the easiest check-in experience to the beautiful setting and the delicious food, this is an ideal B&B for people who want private relaxation! There is no pressure to be social (though there is no discouragement for those seeking that too). The separated buildings are all lovely; we stayed in the Spring Suite in the Blacksmith House. It was spacious and there was clearly care taken to include historic aspects while integrating modern comforts (like the deep jetted tub). The rooms include plenty of linens, toiletries, a glass bottle freshly filled with water, an ice bucket, and a coffee maker with the necessities. Our room also had a mini fridge and an electric fireplace. The Waterwheel Restaurant made us a delicious dinner and delivered it to our room, too! The town of Warm Springs is quaint and picturesque (the lovely clock tower chimes but not too loudly; we could only hear it while outside and nearby), but do be prepared to have a plan for meals. There are no supermarkets and very few restaurants in town. Luckily, the Inn can take care of that, too! Breakfast is delivered daily in a basket; for us, the first day was egg-and-sausage biscuits, fresh fruit, a pastry, and orange juice, plus tea or coffee. The second day was a piece of breakfast casserole and a slice of banana bread plus the same fruit and beverages. Everything was great and served at the right temperature! Overall, this was one of the best places I've ever stayed, and I look forward to returning! Thank you, everyone!

Nestled between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge mountains lies this gem. From breathtaking views to the warm creek, you can dip your toes in this venue is perfect for a romantic getaway. While our trip was only 2 days it didn't disappoint. The Turley suite offers a soaking tub and large walk-in shower, comfortable queen bed, indoor seating area with cable TV, a cute porch with table and chairs to enjoy the fresh mountain air and the peaceful sound of the creek flowing near the property. Also on the property is the Waterwheel restaurant, be sure to book your reservation when booking your stay at the Gristmill so you do not miss out on the incredible food. Another wonderful addition to our stay was the in room hot breakfast we were given each morning. Normally, like most moms we do not eat breakfast, however I could not pass up yogurt parfait coupled with a breakfast casserole that was the perfect start to our day on the Jackson River. The staff was friendly, accommodating and respected our privacy as well as offered great advise on the must-see destinations in the area. Warm Springs Valley offers a variety of activities, I recommend taking a kayak trip down the Jackson River, enjoy a relaxing soak at the Warm Spring Pools just a short 2-minute drive from the Gristmill Square. This trip was one for the memory books and we will be returning. If you are reading this review, book the room, take the trip, and make the memories you will not be disappointed.Nearby activities: Jackson River, offers a variety of outdoor activities. I recommend booking a kayak trip with Allaghany Outdoors to view the 300' cliffs, crystal clear water, and exciting class I and II rapids. Chatting with the locals is always a plus too.Warm Springs Bath, book the 50 minute soak, you will not regret it. Take a hot shower before you go so your skin can soak up all of the minerals. We left with soft skin and a clear mind for our drive home. A fantastic end to our stay.Food & drinks: Waterwheel Restaurant, offers a small but flavorful selection of 5 star meals. Offers unique dishes that include locally sourced beef, mountain trout, and a tomato salad that was a delightful addition to my meal.Sam Snead Tavern, offers a variety of dishes but I recommend one of the steak entrees, by far the best. Enjoy a cocktail from the bar, you will want another, the bartender defiantly knows how to make a good drink that can be enjoyed with your meal.

UPDATE: We were issued a partial refund in response to my review. I feel like they made things more than right, so please keep that in mind as you read my original review below. I am updating stars to reflect my final experience.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Overall, we enjoyed our one-night stay very much.I only have two complaints. First, the area rug is nailed to the floor. This wouldn't be a problem except the nails are raised from the hard floor, so while the carpet squishes under your feet, the nails do not, and stepping on them without shoes is unpleasant.Second, you're supposed to call for your breakfast between 8 and 10am. That said, we weren't able to get through to someone, despite calling several times. We ended up eating something on the way home, and didn't get to experience the breakfast at all.

This was a surprisingly pleasant visit. Everyone was very accommodating and the rooms were very clean and welcoming. The environment was peaceful and quiet. Worth the money spent. The local attractions were very nice too. The restaurant at the mill was very good. They also had a wine cellar with great choices. The bartender Mikey was very knowledgeable and very friendly. This trip was very worth it. Breakfast is delivered to your room. You can hear the creeks and the downtown area had great places to visit. This was are second trip and being only 3 1/2 hours from DC. Family friendly and the owners are very down to earth. Words are not enough to describe this small town and very peaceful. Supporting local farmers for eating local fresh foods.

First I would like to say that I admire small business owners and how hard it is to have a small business. Second I have concluded that after trying places like this a couple of times, that I am definitely a modern new hotel type of person. But, with that said, there are still some things that I would like to bring to light for others. We paid over $200.00 for an overnight stay which was too much in my opinion. Our building, the Steele House, was MUCH too musty. I still feel like I am having a hard time breathing and we have been gone for a couple of hours. The door let in so much light from the hallway and the refrigerator made loud clicking noises which made it hard to sleep. The breakfast was a store bought tiny Belgian waffle with those silly pearl sugar nuggets in it. Dumbest thing ever invented. Waffles are already awesome they don't need rock candy inside of them. Most older adults don't want to eat like that. The juice, fruit and sausage was good and it was served in a cute basket with coffee. There are a few interesting things to do in the area and it is a pretty, quiet area as far as enjoying nature. Good luck with your future!I see that you responded to my review, but I think you are confusing me with someone else. We did stay the night and you did not show us 3 rooms or give us a gift certificate. Just so you know.

This small family-owned inn is a perfect get-away into the mountains. It has just the right blend of sophisticated elegance and understated casualness. In a micro-village surrounded by wooded hills this former gristmill is on a site that's been a mill since before our independence from Great Britain. A pleasant little brook still flows by the giant water-wheel. The proprietors, Kate & John, imbue the place with an authentic personal warmth. The restaurant is first class - really fine food and a great choice of wines curated by John who is a certified sommelier. Attached to the restaurant is an intimate bar that could have been a small pub teleported from some English village. The rooms are stylishly antique without being so delicate you feel like you could break something. The Inn is in effect a series of historic buildings grouped around as a sort of campus. At its center is a pea-graveled courtyard with tables spread about for outdoor dining or just relaxing with drinks. The whole experience is unforgettable - country with style.

I had a delightful, five-star experience here! My suite was charming and so comfortable; one's every whim is foreseen and accomodated. My dinner at the Waterwheel was outstanding: shrimp and grits, a favorite of mine, and I was surprised that my expectation was exceeded: juicy shrimp cooked to perfection, and REAL grits (!!! obviously I am Southern!), also perfect.Everyone I met was warm and kind. I can't wait to come back, I can't overstate what a rare gem this place is.

What a gem! Absolutely enjoyed our experience as a family of four for one night. The campus is adorable and very family friendly. After a delicious dinner at the waterwheel my husband and I laid out a blanket and sipped wine while our kids chased minnows in the stream and fireflies in the field. Plus with the great sites nearby (lake, beach, waterfalls, hikes, etc) it was the perfect weekend getaway! Thank you

Always a great annual February weekend getaway stop for my wife and I. The rooms are simple but spacious, and the atmosphere is what we love. Breakfast is a treat every morning delivered to your room. Fantastic Inn and the owners are friendly and very professional!Rooms: Simple and spacious. This is 100 year plus construction so it can be a little drafty, but we come every year. Fireplaces are great!

Gorgeous rooms feel very luxurious at a totally reasonable price. Friendly staff and amazing breakfasts delivered to the room. Definitely get dinner while you're here. Has the cutest 4 seat bar and the food is gourmet and worth every penny. Can't recommend enough.

Loved this little inn. So much character. We stayed on the Spring Suite and the Loft room and there was plenty of space in the Blacksmith shop for hanging out with our friends and playing games. Close enough to the Homestead to enjoy the amenities without the Homestead prices. And the Waterwheel Restaurant was the best meal we had on our trip.

3 stars for the lodging. 5 stars for the Waterwheel restaurant, so 4 stars on average. The room, (Boardroom) is quaint and tasteful. It has a rustic but charming aspect but would benefit from a little refresh (re-apolster the sofa bed, fix the torn screen door, some air scent sticks for the musty odor, hairy bug on the pillow). $200 per night is a touch high. The restaurant, however, is excellent with top quality food and an excellent wine selection. Well worth the price and very enjoyable.

Wheat room was very warm, welcoming and cozy. Amenities were provided. Clean sheets, pillows and towels. Nice to be upstairs, quiet and didn’t notice any neighbors. Great experience at restaurant as well. Made reservations and had drinks at the bar before hand, great food great service. The morning continental breakfast is basic, but serves its purpose. My only point of criticism would be the eggs, served at breakfast. Would have liked fresh, well scrambled eggs. BUT Still a great experience, well worthy of 5 stars, will come back and recommend to others. Would visit bath county just for this experience.

This is one of our favorite places to go to get away from the city. My in-laws have been going to "Gristmill" (as we call it) for years, and would take my husband and his sister when they would visit years ago. It's now become my husband's and my favorite getaway. It's the perfect mix of rural & modern. It feels very remote, but the rooms are always clean and modern. We always used to stay in the Singapore Room, but recently stayed in the new Turley Suite. I can't say enough good things about our stay. The skylights brought in so much natural light, and the bathroom was amazing! I couldn't help but take two baths in the clawfoot tub. One of our favorite things is the breakfast that they bring you each morning. Nothing too fancy, but just enough food and always delicious! We always go to the Waterwheel Restaurant at least once during our stay, which we always greatly enjoy. We couldn't recommend the Inn at Gristmill more, and can't wait until we can visit again!

Adorable. The rooms smell a little musty, but they're really charming and the service is great.A delicious breakfast of quiche, fruit, fresh orange juice, and coffee was brought to us in a milk bottle basket in the morning, which is the best way to eat breakfast IMO. The Water Wheel restaurant was upscale priced but worth the cost--the food was incredible. And the whole little complex is just beautiful. Will definitely come back again!

We were in town for a baby shower and wanted to stay at the inn. We stayed in the Bromley and the room was great (spacious, clean, comfortable, charming). The breakfast basket was stuffed full and the food was great. LOVED that a lot of their products (shampoo, lotion, etc.) were sustainable/planet-friendly options. Gave four stars as I think some of the common areas (beneath the “Loft”, courtyard, grounds) need a deep clean/tidying. Overall, good stay and will come again in the future.

Our room was clean and spacious and my favorite part was them delivering complimentary breakfast in a basket each morning which we ate out on our private porch. Sept was perfect weather for a little R&R away from city life. We didn't have a chance to eat in their restaurant because we were out exploring the area but heard their food is amazing which I believe because of the amazing breakfast. If we are ever back in that area, I would definitely stay again if that room is available.

Loved our time here! The room was spacious and the screen door was such a nice touch to let in some fresh air. We were so pleased to have a table in our room and plenty of space to move about. The best part was the cutest breakfast delivered upon request, country ham biscuits, coffee, fruit.. what more could you ask for?!
