I recently got a 9-month old cairn terrier and I knew I needed some guidance about training him to have basic manners - these little guys, while very sweet and adorable, can be stubborn and if not given a clear set of expectations, their behavior can get out of control easily. I contacted Freak On a Leash after seeing they had given puppy classes at my vet’s office. Based on my goals and type of training I was looking for, they recommend Karen Adams and their Basic Manners classes. And it has been a wonderful experience! Karen has walked me through a series of training steps beginning with the basics of sit, stay, the ever important “recall”, how to keep him from jumping on people, and other tips and suggestions to keep my puppy Jimmy engaged and learning. Perhaps even more importantly, Karen has helped me “retrain” my own actions to adjust from having older, settled dogs to having this energetic puppy, and gives me great feedback and encouragement. I could not have asked for a better trainer or program. Jimmy and I are progressing nicely! I highly recommend Freak On a Leash!

I found Freak On A Leash while looking for help with our Velociraptor GSD. We have just finished our second series of classes and the transformation has been amazing. Our class was taught by Cate Law and she has been extremely helpful in our journey. I worked with Karen for in-home training with our Belgian Malinois puppy. The knowledge and expertise she brings is unmatched! The Reactive Dog Class provided a small group setting for learning tools that will be helpful in moving towards more positive responses to triggers. The first class was a one-on-one introduction where the instructors gave some basic introduction, were able to watch my dog and my dog became familiar with the class setting. The following four classes provided both tools and practice, slowly increasing the difficulty level. Both Andrea and Cheryl were knowledgeable, patient, and quick to respond to questions that came up during the week. They offered insight, suggestions, encouragement through setbacks and realistic expectations. The class was an opportunity to get to understand my dog better as well as help as we progress together in controlling her anxiety & response. The class was general enough to be of help to each of the class participants and individualized enough to benefit both my dog and myself as we work together.( This is a before picture. Andrea & her trainers are amazing! We took her STAR puppy class and had a really great time. Each weekly lesson took place in a small group setting and had homework for us to practice until the next week lesson. We loved learning and also seeing other puppies with their owners in a safe, controlled environment. Our working line GSD is very high energy and intense, but Andrea understands dog behavior really well and helped us adjust our training so we are able to communicate with our dog better. You can tell she cares about her clients with how she handles the training sessions and the way she offers advice even outside of class time. We are moving out of the area, and she even helped us find a trainer (both for basic obedience and IGP sport) in our new location because she cares about how well the dog does even after completing her class! I would recommend this class, as well as any others she offers for dogs of all types and ages. Thank you Andrea for everything.

I took the Basic Obedience Class back to back with two of my Golden Retrievers. Andrea provided an enjoyable experience and kept it interesting in each class.She always asked at the end of every class for individual issues that each of us needed special help with in our households. We were able to take her helpful stategies home to solve things that were outside of the normal scope of the class. I highly recommend Andrea as a trainer and instructor.

Andrea helped us so much! Almost a year now after having our meeting, our pup's separation anxiety has all but left the building. With her quick, knowledgeable, actually HELPFUL advice, we were able to put into place the tools our guy needed to feel safe and comfortable by himself. He went from barking non-stop, panting, pacing, and howling while we were gone to actually enjoying his toys, treats, and time gazing out the windows watching the squirrels. Andrea (Freak on a leash) did an awesome job of helping us learn to train our dog Shelby. She came to our house, she was very professional, energetic, knowledgeable andfun. We didn’t know a lot about having a dog or training one and she was with us every step of the way. She gave us the confidence, knowledge, and tools to be able to train our dog. Andrea is amazing! My husband and I recently adopted our dog and Andrea guided us to breaking behaviors, teaching new skills, and the difference in our dog is awesome! Andrea is amazing! When we first met Andrea, our dog had very bad reactivity and our vet said we should put him down because of that. We called Andrea and explained that she was our last hope. She came to our house and assessed him and his history. She gave thoughtful and specific advice on how to work with our dog. When other trainers just reinforced his fear and made his reactivity worse, Andrea instead gave us positive methods that our dog really responded too. In matter of a couple of weeks our dog changed for the better! Now he has an amazing relationship with us! Andrea is the best. She gave me the tools I needed to train my 2 golden retriever puppies which are now 6 months old. When I first met Andrea I had so many frustrations, it had been so long since I had a puppy I felt like I was at a loss. We met weekly for 7 sessions, each week I would share with her the happenings since we last saw each other. She listened then worked with myself and the puppies on how to deal with each issue. I use the tools she taught me everyday and the frustrations are now few and far between. They both are currently with me in my office sound asleep. Thank you Andrea, you are "THE BEST".

I met Andrea several years ago. She was training of her Bernese Mtn Dog in fly ball. Shortly after that, I heard she was studying to be a trainer at the place I was taking my young dog. A bunch of years passed by. Several weeks ago, I brought home a 6mo old border collie and looked up where Andrea was teaching obedience. I saw she has received many certifications mostly ones I’ve never heard of. I know several are in animal behavior. Andrea was teaching gentle training well before the “experts” switched their style of training.My point in all this is probably obvious. I think she the best in town. And any trainer she hires or recommends, I trust their abilities.Lastly, Andrea trains us humans well too. She very gentle and patient with this of us who get impatient.You won’t be disappointed.

Andrea is an awesome trainer. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to working with dogs and their people. She recently worked with my 5 yr old dog and me on his insecurity with other dogs and puppies. This is expressed by his being less than polite toward them, not aggressive, but very rude. Andrea helped me develop a baby step by baby step plan that introduced Dillon very slowly to the puppy and when we were ready, came to the house to begin working on their being able to interact with each other. One of Andreas strengths is that she is able to focus on the dog and the people, being aware of my anxiety, knowing it would travel down the leash and make my dog even more anxious and recommending breaks as needed for both of us. Today I had a question about our homework, texted her, and got a quick response. I have complete trust and confidence in Andrea's training, professionalism and her focus on the well being of the dog and his person. Using all positive training Dillon is well on his way to making a new friend. thank you Andrea!!!
