Jay helped us to our meal. Great guy. Steak was good, just a little more done than I like, but delicious. House salad was cold and crunchy. There were a couple of big iceberg lettuce pieces that were a bit bitter. The blu cheese dressing had large chunks of cheese just like I like. Great meal for two of us was near $50.00.They only do buffet on Saturday and Sunday.

Hard to say anything about this place except Google said it was open and it was not. For that matter neither did the restaurant’s recording. We did find out on Facebook that they are closed until the end of October.My wife ate here a few weeks ago with her sister & a friend and they loved everything about it. Guess I’ll have to wait until November to see for myself. Looking forward to it.

We arrived at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation.There were maybe three other tables seated. Wendy, our waitress, was at the table almost immediately, but seemed a little flustered. No worries, we had been here once before and the food was excellent.....We got our shrimp cocktail appetizers pretty quick (10 - 15 mins) and very tasty and well presented.Then everything went downhill. Wendy spent most of her time in bar area filling ice in pitchers and taking care of several other tables of obvious local regulars. There were 4-5 other tables seated well after us that were already getting food around 6ish. Tried flagging down Wendy to ask if the plates just sitting on serving board for past 15 mins from kitchen were ours. No avail.Finally caught her attention around 6:15. She went back to kitchen and came back out. Finally brought our plates over which were the same from serving board from earlier. Food was ice cold.Wendy made excuses rather than correcting before bringing to table and having new plates fired for us.At this point we were now feeling like an inconvenience to Wendy and asked for the check for our appetizers. We were done. She comped our entire bill. Next round of diners were coming in. I said "Good Luck" to them which inspired Wendy to start yelling at us on the way out. Apparently, if you are not a local regular, you are treated as 2nd class citizen and not given the same attention and service.Now, where to find somewhere else to eat at almost 7pm on a Sat evening....in the middle of rural VA.This was a complete lack of managing the waitstaff process for 3-4 tables.We will not ever go back.

Ate here while staying at an Airbnb. Best. Decision. Ever. Sarah was a rock star, and they accommodated our party of 10 perfectly! Everybody walked away very full and happy. Very nice people and very cool story surrounding the structure and decor. If you haven't stopped in, you should give it a shot!

I visited Kennon House recently and I would just like to say that the young man that was our waiter was simply outstanding. He was kind, courteous and gave exceptional service. I didn't get a chance to get his name, but he was just wonderful.

The BEST fried chicken EVER. Hot, fresh and yummy. Won't even order fried chicken anywhere else. Sarah and whole staff are amazing. Came all the way from Florida and def not disappointed.

We have been going to the Kennon house for years and love the place. It is in a historic building with lots of character. The fried catfish is excellent and there are many other items on the menu we love. The owner Dennis is very polite and strives to make sure everyone is happy with the service. If you have not tried the Kennon house please give it a shot.

We went there last night and it was freezing inside. We had a Waitress and she stopped waiting on our table I guess because we had 7 people. The owner waited on us. He was beyond rude over and over to many of us. We waited over two hours for our food that came out cold. Some food was missing. Some burnt. When we said something instead of apologizing he said I'm sorry your not enjoying your experience. Ok would you if you went into a restaurant and it was cold, your waitress left your table and took care of people who got there after you, your food was cold and some burnt and missing all while you waited over two hours and got a attitude? Best thing he could have said was sorry, let me correct this. We were given a discount but I will never go back somewhere that treats people like dogs. I can take bad food and service but I will not tolerate rudeness to someone who didn't deserve it. He definitely treats his regulars differently. You think he would love new business

This place is timeless and heart warming for sure. The Kennon House is a staple in the Lake Gaston area. The service is friendly and feels like you live there. The menu covers all the local cuisine you come to expect. Grab a reservation and enjoy some local great cooking. (Hint of the day half fried chicken is plenty to remember)

Visited with family from New Jersey, Jersey Pete. Neat atmosphere in this historic building that's known to be haunted. Even being short staffed, the owner made sure our needs were being met. The fried chicken was awesome. No complaints from a table of five.

Family and I met for Thanksgiving Dinner at the Kennon House and it was the best! The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is the best home-cooking. The waiters and waitresses are great. Reasonably priced! We will be back.

Great little restaurant with an interesting history and good staff. I loved the the ravioli and chicken, as well as desserts. I don’t recommend the Brunswick stew (too sweet), but everything else was delicious. Nice restaurant for a birthday or special event!

Basic comfort food on Sunday Buffet. Great southern fried chicken. Cakes made on site are moist and yummy. Adult beverages available. Fairly priced. Remember masks to move about tables are distanced per covid-19 restrictions.

We enjoy the 30 minute drive to the historic Kennon House from our home in Roanoke Rapids NC several times a year and are never disappointed. Always delicious, hot, and freshly cooked food with a southern flare on the 5 star buffet to go along with top notch service from the very friendly and efficient wait staff and very reasonable prices keep us coming back for more of the same. It is a trip back in time not only because of the history of the building, but also because everyone from owners to wait staff go above and beyond to make sure patrons always receive top drawer food, atmosphere and good old fashioned customer service. Highly recommend.

awesome place to eat and enjoy the nostalgia of 1792. Owner Dennis and Gayle, the waitress, were so friendly. The history about the building and area is incredible. Will certainly go back. Food and service were very good.

The Kennon House is old country cooking. I've been going there for decades. On weekends they have a country buffet that features the best fried chicken around...and, except for here, I don't like fried chicken. But here it's a treat. During the off season the selections are staple country food: salad, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, great beans, rolls, dessert, and other varying dishes. During prime season (summer) you can often find more variety like steak or pasta. The special menus (Thanksgiving, mother's day, etc) are to die for. They really outdo themselves and feature the best meals I've ever had with my family. One of, if not my all time, favorite places to eat.

Took my family and my in-laws here for dinner and had a wonderful meal. We are relatively new to the Lake Gaston area, so we were excited to try Kennon House on the recommendation of a neighbor. Our meal was delicious - I had a country ham steak with redeye cream gravy, fried okra, and grits. As a southerner, I'm particular about southern cuisine and was delighted with the quality of my meal, as were the rest of our party.

I went with a group from my church & the gentleman that made the reservations estimated wrong. And it was a lot more of us then the owner expected. he had also had two people call in & he still managed to give us a nice meal though it was over priced for what it consisted of.
