My Wife & I recently had an extremely negative experience at the Dollar General located at 697 Colonial Trail E in Surry, VA 23883. My wife entered the store at 9:57 PM on Tuesday Evening, 11/14/2023, and proceeded to use the restroom. After completing her restroom use, she intended to shop for a few items. However, she was met with extreme rudeness from the manager, who abruptly told her that she had to leave the store as all the registers were shut down and the store was closed.It is important to note that my wife entered the store prior to the designated closing time. As she left the store, my wife expressed her disappointment at the way the manager treated her and reminded her that the store was open when she entered to do her shopping for the evening. The manager could have approached my wife with respect and professionalism however she chose to act in a disrespectful & completely unprofessional manner.In an attempt to address this issue, I called the same Dollar General and asked for the process to file a complaint with the owner or district manager of the store. Unfortunately, the manager, responded by accusing me of complaining about customers shopping after hours.Despite explaining clearly that my wife “customers” had followed store hours and had encountered the manager and another employee, a slender young man, still working on bringing in outside merchandise into the store, the manager continued to argue with me on the phone as a reply to these statements.. To make matters worse, she abruptly hung up on me mid-conversation while I was requesting the information to file a formal complaint.Refusing to let this incident go unresolved, I called back to request the same information. Once again, the manager, displayed extreme unprofessionalism by hanging up on me without addressing my concerns or providing the necessary information to file a complaint.This level of unprofessional behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect well on the management and leadership within our small community. We need individuals in positions of authority who can efficiently and diligently perform their job functions while prioritizing the treatment and care of community members. It is disheartening to witness such behavior at a local business, and I sincerely hope that this review and complaint prompt the necessary actions to rectify the situation and ensure that our small community is represented by leaders who prioritize the well-being of its citizens at all times.

I liked what they have done to the place! It looks much more like a cute small town store! My favorite is the home decor section you can see it as soon as you walk in! The items are a decent price. Found some cute 1.00 plates would have loved to get the matching set.

Super friendly staff and they always seem to have what you are looking for.Store was well stocked and organized, they even had some good sales on some DVDs for sale that were educational PBS type. Large parking lot too I was able to navigate my truck and camper through it and park easily.Great stop on the way to the camp ground.

I really love the renovations that they did recently. I feel like they have a lot more stuff than they used to, my only issue with this Dollar general is that every time I go in the aisles are really cluttered. Today I had to move at least four things out of my way just to get my cart through the aisles. But honestly I'd rather them have too much stuff than not enough.

The phone is never ever working...I have called so many times and so have my friends ..and the phones just ring..I even called while in store and no one asked...I spoke to store clerk and she said phone is broke and has been broken for over a year..How do you run a business without a phone??? Me and several friends would like them to see if this problem can be corrected...

I tell you you get what you pay for. they are nice and knowledgeable about what they have but most of the time when I buy something it's broke or shabby by the first week after buying it. I bought rags that were from Pakistan a couple of weeks ago that made the water look like blueberries for 3 days. Even after I had to go and cure the rags myself so the dye wouldn't keep coming out it still did. Their picture frames always have the backs to fall off. Like I said you get what you pay for. Stick to the toilet paper and you'll be all right.

The newly remodeled Dollar general store in Surry is so much nicer although the size is the same the layout makes it appear to be bigger so it is much better and seems to carry more items and nicer items than before . This store is usually crowded but on the day that I was there Tuesday for a change it wasn't .The self checkout lane is a definite plusand the employees are helpful and friendly.

Its nasty, trashy, store clerk was not helpful. Merchandise Strode everywhere. Broken things laying around nothing organized. It would take months to clean that store up. Was pleased to see the large pot holes repaired in the parking lot. Corporate really needs to go in and take a look at that place it's horrible. One of the worse I've ever been in.

It's in Surry so that's why three stars. The staff is usually friendly the shelves are usually stocked well but falls short often in my mind. If you can swing it rushmere is the better location in the area.

Great store to get a quick item on your way home. Great selection and friendly, helpful employees greet me every time I walk in. Good place to shop.

The store was clean the cashiers were very nice but some of the people that work their do not have as much knowledge about things in the store as they should I was told they didn't have an item and then I walked around the store a little bit and found it myself.

This storelocated in Surry County, it was kind of nice, very well stocked. I didn't have a long wait. I definitely would go back.

Basic Dollar General with similar products to all the others. Nice staff. Since there is no grocery store in Surry County, if you want canned or frozen food, this is it.

Convenient for a quick stop but the air is so contaminated by the mass quantities of artificial fragrances in that store that just a few minutes in it are complete torture for me.

Their management isn't great but they are fair. The employee turnover is high but there good ones stay. If you're ever in doubt just ask for Deborah.
