Fantastic outfit, both for groceries and prepared foods. Lots of local and organic options. If you feel so inclined, add a little to your total for their “pending board,” which is contributions to feeding the homeless and hungry in Staunton. Great folks, great store.

What a wonderful store. It’s a hidden gem. I love the fresh local produce, baked goods, and selection of regional products. I tried a peach balsamic salad dressing and will be going back to purchase more. The regional wines are great also. Friendly helpful owners, ready to go meals, and a convenient location with ample free parking round out the positive attributes. Please give Nu-Beginnings a try. You’ll be glad you did.

The Store has long since been a favorite of ours from the day they opened their doors. Whether we're looking for some vegan g/f options to grab and go, calling ahead for a "Linda Salad" full of nothing but veggies, looking for those amazing birdseed wreaths to feed our feathered friends, or seeking out fresh produce that's been locally grown and sourced, this is where we can find it. Many other grocery items, homemade items, and handmade crafty things are available, too. I highly recommend them and am super grateful for their presence.

I've been a regular customer for years and gotten to know the owners, John and Stella, because they give personal service to everyone. Their veggies are great, fresh and often local, their baked goods are superb, and they have a terrific selection of other products, often Virginia-made, such as wine and honey. And that doesn't even cover the food John makes for the restaurant and catering, including for the elderly and infirm who can't get out. They have bounced back from a devastating flood with their own hard work and the good will of the city, other local merchants, and their customers. A true success story. Staunton is lucky to have them.

A wonderful restaurant that has a great variety of food for every diet. They have menu items for vegetarian, gluten free, and apparently anything else imaginable.Personally, for lunch I like the chicken salad and the egg salad sandwiches. The Cuban sandwich is also delicious. They serve breakfast all day, every day and I hear it is all delicious, but I'm stuck on the Belgium waffles which are served only on Saturdays. They have several lunch/dinner specials every day that are constantly changing. Some dishes are from around the world. They look good but I haven't tried them yet.The building itself is a bit hard to see from the road when driving. The signs are small and it's easy to think it is something other than a restaurant, but it is worth the effort. The food is good and the people are friendly.

We are in love with Nu-Beginning. John, Stella and Ginger are wonderful. Fresh, local and unique products and incredible meals to go. After using several meal plans that ship meals weekly, we tired of the lack of variety in their vegetarian offerings, not to mention all of the packaging requiring disposal. Our area does not offer many imaginative vegetarian dishes. We talked with John and asked if he could provide weekly vegetarian meals for us and he immediately agreed. Since then, he has cooked unique and varied dishes we pick up weekly. Our taste buds have been exceedingly pleased and happy. The varied soups are some of the best we have ever tasted. Check out the creative and delicious magic that is John's cooking and be welcomed by great smiles. Do yourself a favor. Make good friends with the people, products and offerings from the Nu-Beginning Store.

I love shopping at Nu-Beginning. It's my go-to for local eggs, meats and other stuff, especially when it's off-season for the farmers market. John's a great guy who's always looking for what customers want. One example: I asked about the availability of lebne - a middle eastern style extra thick yogurt/cheese. So John started stocking it! And his local coffee is a bargain.

Very friendly location. John will help you find what you are looking for. Not only is the food fresh, delicious, and unique, the owners are community-minded real, genuine people. I don't live near Staunton any more but still visit when I'm in the area to say hi to John and Stella.

Fabulous, especially in their new location (221 N. Lewis). Great open, light, inviting atmosphere. Lots of seating options. All that we ordered was excellent; even the wheat toast was so good I just wanted to eat every bit. The jam is homemade by the owner and good to the last speck. Will be back here every chance we get!

This is such a wonderful place! The owner is very kind and the staff are all very pleasant. So many places these days care more about looking hip and doing whatever aesthetics are in fashion at the moment that they forget about quality. Not here. Everything I have eaten here was delicious! And they have a range of options from vegan, vegetarian, to meat loving cheese loving goodness. The outdoor area in the back is so so nice! Most places only have outdoor seating right next to the street in front of their buildings, so I really appreciate that there is a garden away from the road in the back of the building. Lots of pollinator friendly bushes and plenty of seating.I like to get duck eggs from the grocery area when they are in stock. All of the food specials I have had from their menu have been very good. They have wifi and it's a great spot to set up and work on homework.Another cool thing they do are special holiday buffet style menu events for holidays like Easter and St Patrick's day. This humble wonder is a real gem of Staunton. May it live long and prosper.=)

This restaurant used to be my favorite lunch place at its previous location, so much so that my friends and I would get cravings to go there. The food was always fresh, tasty, interesting and plentiful, and the ambiance was cozy. But for various reasons, I hadn't had the chance to visit since they moved 2-ish years ago. True, in part I'd been discouraged by initial reviews, but I was curious to form my own opinion. So, thinking that by now the restaurant would be back in its groove, last week I encouraged two companions to join me for lunch there.Based on our experience, I don't think I'll return soon. We were the only customers in the place that no longer feels cozy but more like an auto parts store with widely spaced tables. Service was initially solicitous, but degraded over the course of our hour there as three or maybe four people, some evidently quite uncertain, attended to us. It was hard to talk over what was billed as live music but seemed rather to be a jam session of regulars who showed up for the purpose. We found the musical selections strident foreground music rather than soothing background music. When the food finally came, the three meals were delivered item by item rather than seat by seat although we were the only customers there most of that time and our order was not complicated. The food I'd much touted was a big disappointment to all. The burger was overcooked, the chunky vegetable soup was actually just potatoes in brown broth and disagreeably bitter, the salad was skimpy being mostly lettuce, the bread was flat-tasting and cold (and we had to ask twice for it although it was included in one order and requested with another), and the pot of coffee was like tepid dishwater. (In fairness, a cup of a different roast ordered after the meal was quite good -- hot and deeply flavorful.) Only the off-menu scoop of tuna salad and the reliable house citrus vinaigrette were excellent.I'm really sorry this was such a downbeat experience for us. When the restaurant was at its former location, not only did I get cravings to go there, but I used to tell everyone I could about it and encourage them to visit, promising they would not be disappointed, and they never were. Sad to say, I don't feel comfortable doing that now.The management are really lovely and I want them to succeed despite the negative content of this review. Hopefully, they'll know what accounted for the experience my group had and be able to address it.Maybe if we'd gone just for coffee and pastries midafternoon and the place had been full, we would have had a different experience, for the demands on the kitchen would have been fewer, the coffee would have had to be kept fresh and flowing, and the live music would have provided just the right vibe.

John and Stella at Nu-Beginning Farm: The Store are a text book study of a small business that focuses on community and care. From choices of locally sourced foods and goods to their choices and treatment of employees, they are exemplary. I am proud to support this business.

To be fair, this was our third visit in three years and the first two times were both delightful and delicious. Today, however, we had an overpriced and unappealing meal. $11.50 each for a dry and mediocre black bean burger served with a pile of generic potato chips. The vegetable soup looked and tasted like public school cafeteria food and the tomato basil soup looked great but seemed to have not been taste tested by the cook. At $3.50 apiece, the “iced tea” was barely not water. Our previous visits were in the much smaller space before the relocation. Perhaps they should have stayed there and put the money into maintaining quality instead of asking for customers to round up their bill to help pay down the debt. I’m happy to pay good money for good food, but today we spent over $40 on a terrible meal.

A wonderful restaurant and store that offers specialized foods such as gluten free and vegan options. As well as regular foods to choose from. The food is always consistently good and the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. The store offers farm fresh milk, eggs, and cheese. They also sell delicious jams that are homemade and local honey. If you haven't tried this gem of a restaurant and store you really should.

Great little farm to table breakfast, lunch, and frozen fresh ingredients prepared with love meals. Spices, coffee beans, organic meats. On Lewis Street tucked away. Look for it! You'll be glad you found this treasure in Staunton.

Relaxing atmosphere and fresh delicious food! We had breakfast and my husband said the scrambled eggs were the best and freshest he’d had in 25 years. Will visit again when we get back to Staunton.
