We loved our dinner at The Black Twig! We were seated in a booth in what felt like a retrofitted school gym, complete with stage. We didn’t play but there was a pool table and darts in the corner and a free to play jukebox. We ordered the Brussels sprouts (big serving, delicious lemon ginger sauce), the Spinach Gnocchj made vegan (fresh and yummy), and the black bean burger. There was one hiccup where they accidentally served us a meat burger but our server was incredibly apologetic and got a black bean burger out to us as quickly as possible. Great service, good food options, and a fun atmosphere!Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options labeled on the menu

It can be hard to find good food in small towns but The Black Twig Diner will not disappoint! We were greeted by friendly staff, the place was very clean and lively. It had a good environment. The staff were joking with one another and made great recommendations to us. It felt like home, at one point I even allowed the server to hold my baby (after they so kindly offered) so I could eat. Everything on the menu sounded so good, so my husband and I ended up ordering a TON. I can honestly say, you cannot go wrong. I expected standard diner food but this place is definitely well above that. The owners are so thoughtful and kind, jumping in to help with anything needed. One of them spent time at our table, talking about the food and the story of Black Twig. We cannot wait to get back there. Especially since I hear now there is dancing!Parking: Easy and free!Kid-friendliness: Felt very family friendly. The owners have young children and were very welcoming to me and my young daughter.

The Black Twig Diner & Bar is a cozy place to have a home style cooked meal. They have a bar, booth seating, and a large dining hall for events.I have eaten here twice on my travels through the town of Sperryville, Virginia. The first time I had a cheeseburger and fries while this last time, I had the Quarter Fried Chicken meal with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Honestly, I ordered the collard greens by accident, mistaking the menu for green beans. It was totally my own fault, but I tried them anyway. They were really flavorful, and this restaurant has now turned me on to collard greens. I would definitely order these meals again.I also ordered a cup of hot tea from their hot tea selection. It's pretty nice that this restaurant had a hot tea selection. I don't come across that very often. The staff was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner.

The Black Twig has a back room they allowed us to book for a baby shower. We worked with them on a menu and price, it couldn’t have been simpler! The day of the shower they allowed us to come in an hour before they opened to setup decorations and move the furniture around. They were extremely attentive and helpful! The food was delicious. Guests gave lots of compliments especially the sausage gravy! Huge thanks to Angel, our amazing waitress, and Abigail, the on site manager, they made sure things went perfectly.I must say, the venue and service make this a perfect spot for hosting any type of get together or event!

My wife and I have made the journey across the Blue Ridge (from Luray) to the Black Twig several times now, and have thoroughly enjoyed each experience! Entrees such as the local Shenandoah trout and vegan gnocchi have both been stellar, and the trout itself has entered my daydreams several times for how good it is! Excellent (and enormous) bread plate also, along with a delicious strawberry "mocktail"! Outstanding service from John as well. Do yourself a favor and make a visit to the Black Twig for outstanding food, and a very friendly/welcoming atmosphere!Dietary restrictions: Vegan options.

Formerly the Headmaster’s Pub, this restaurant is under new ownership and management now. We have really enjoyed the food we’ve tried there so far. My favorites would include anything involving the breakfast biscuits, which might be some of the best biscuits I’ve ever had; and the mushroom gnocchi on the dinner menu, which are so light and pillowy that they barely hold together. My husband really likes the fried chicken. The have a good selection of craft beer, and interesting cocktails.Service ranges from decent to great, depending on who is waiting on you and how busy the restaurant is.There’s a large patio that has dog friendly seating.

Visited for lunch with an 18 month old, and the staff was so sweet and accommodating. Had a black bean burger, beer cheese fries and a beer, and everything was great. Service was good and quick as well. The place itself looks nice, awesome use of an old school gym (?), big space, but feels quite cozy with the lights and decorations. Will for sure come back if I’m ever in the area again.

Granted this is not to be considered fine dining, in the Ruth Cris realm; but it was fine dining for us and a perfect fit. The food was very good and consistent, meaning all items were good. Pricing was fair enough. Service was exceptional , and the owner/ manager is a lovely lady with excellent customer awareness and a great personality. The servers were attentive and friendly. For our large family and still having some small children, the atmosphere was perfect; huge dining room which used to be and old school cafeteria / multipurpose room (check the facts on that; I’m not sure), but it gave us the relaxed vibe and freedom to not worry about the kids being loud etc.We do an annual trip to skyline and always hit some restaurant afterwards; we will be back here next year if not sooner.Kid-friendliness: Perfect for big families

Went for the first time and our expectations were blown away!! I ordered the mushroom gnocchi, which I would’ve loved to add chicken to for extra protein (was told this wasn’t an option which I found odd since chicken is an add on option for the salads), but was still yummy nonetheless. The gnocchi itself tasted homemade, and the sauce was AMAZING. Everything tasted fresh and seemed locally sourced (especially the mushrooms, which we noticed weren’t your “typical” mushrooms) which is something we look for when choosing dinner options. Noticed a bunch of burgers being sent out while we waited for our food, so it’ll be a tossup of if I order the gnocchi again or go for a burger next time! For dessert, my husband ordered the coconut cream rice and it came cold and hard. Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to be served, but we wouldn’t go for that again. 4 stars for food because of this, otherwise we’d definitely give the full 5.Service was a little slow, but we completely understand this as an element of growing pains with starting a new restaurant. We’ll be back to try more :)

Let me start by saying that the ding to 4 stars for the Atmosphere is only because I'm not a fan of live music while dining and we weren't aware that they had live music on Friday & Saturday nights (I've since been informed that it's only 1-2x a month, so if you ARE a fan of live music, plan accordingly), when we decided to have dinner at the Black Twig; so it's not so much a ding on them. The staff was phenomenal, doing everything they could to accommodate us with a table as far from the entry to the room in which the band was playing and, although the extended wait was due to our request for a farther table, we were comped a free appetizer; a gesture that instantly garnered them kudos. The wait staff was attentive and took great care of us; empty dishes removed promptly, drinks refilled with little to no wait, etc. The main reason for being there - the food - was no less than the service. My sister-in-law, quite the foodie with high standards, had nothing but praise for the whole experience - which may be more difficult to achieve than a Michelin start. Highly recommend. . . just avoid live music nights if you want to have a quieter experience.

We love The Black Twig. It has a great bar area, cute outdoor patio seating, the music is always incredibly cool, and the food is outstanding. The smashburgers are a family favorite and the fries, oh the fries are perfect. The fried chicken dinner is a great too, honestly, we’ve never had anything that wasn’t delicious. We go (nearly) weekly and have had a lovely experience every single time. Amazing service (thanks Deb) and nice selection of beers on tap. I highly recommend giving it a try if you have the opportunity. Oh! The desserts are worth it too, my kid raves about the milkshakes.Parking: Plenty of parking - easy

We ended up at the Black Twig by happenstance. We were expecting a lowbrow burger and wings joint when we saw the ketchup and mustard bottles on the outside tables. We were happily wrong. The first thing we experienced was the very personable bartender who sat us at our booth. Our server, John Ingram, was stellar. He knew the menu well and gave excellent recommendations to us all. Two of my friends ordered the Grapefruit Blitz cocktail and loved it. For appetizers, we ordered asparagus and artichokes, crispy brussel sprouts, bread with pimento cheese, and tartine; all were very good. The pimento cheese is worth the extra cheedar. See what I did there?I had the Spring gnocchi and the Rockfish entrees (Don’t judge me). Another guest had the Rockfish (that's how I knew I wanted it), another guest had the chicken and risotto, and finally, we ordered the chicken kale Caesar. Our only complaint was the chicken breast was the tiniest bit tough. If you find yourself driving through, this place is worth the stop.

Was hoping for what I was told was the best food in Sperryville...it wasn't..my hamburger was overcooked and small, and the Mac and cheese runny...chocolate cake was really disappointing..the bloody Mary was the best tho,...so not a terrible experience...glad we stopped for the view, and the wine selection, but Sunday brunch menu was limited and not the best

Atmosphere and service were great. Food was disappointing. Chicken and waffles and biscuits and gravy were a tad on the small side which would be fine if they were really good. The chicken was over fried. The waffle was nothing special. And it would be good accompanied by something like a vinegar slaw or something acidic. The biscuit and gravy was enjoyed by my husband but was pretty small. The food also took a while. I assume this place is still just figuring stuff out. Oh I will say that the kids grilled cheese was bigger than expected and I was impressed by the multi-veggie side. Fresh veggies sliced thin.I wish them luck because the space is great!
