This place was very nice. Have stayed here several times while in town on business, and each time has been great. The property has quite a story to tell, and it is worth taking time to walk the trails around to not miss out on the history of the location as well. The rooms were very nice, and comfy, bathrooms were clean and spacious, well tended for sure. Breakfast has always been on point đź‘Ť Reka has been our favorite morning concierge, she's a delight. Still would love to try the spa treatments as well some time. Worth staying here if you find yourself near South Boston.

Breakfast was a challenge. They set out their spread and only refresh the coffee. Starts at 6am until 10am. Very lean after 8am. Conference facilities were nice and good service. Meals were goodRooms: Were dated. If you needed a refrigerator you needed to ask for one and pay a rate. Should be part of the roomFood & drinks: Food was very good at the Tavern. Brunch was nice in the mansion.Noteworthy details: Parking is definitely a challenge. Mostly you had to walk a distance.

Inside the room was a binder with pages describing the history of the property. SLAVERY WASN’T MENTIONED ONCE. Let us be clear. SLAVES BUILT THAT ENTIRE PROPERTY. THOSE SLAVE OWNERS WEREN’T so great.Mold stains in the washcloths. Stains on the pillowcases. The Tavern food and drinks were overpriced and awful. This place needs to rewrite their marketing to reflect the truth.

We visited Berry Hill on a Friday afternoon. While shopping someone recommended we stop here. The drive is beautiful and tree lined. The Boise is lovely with pillars and really tall windows. Inside you can see the floating staircase designed and constructed by Thomas Day. It has been around a long time and is still beautiful! I cannot speak to the stay or the restaurant but if in the area it is worth it just to take in the beauty of the inn. My husband and I hope to be back to stay and enjoy it more thoroughly. This would be a beautiful place for a wedding!

The staff and location made this is amazing trip and wedding venue. I love history and sitting at the tavern I asked Phillip (event manager) a quick question about one of the buildings. Next thing I know he along with the other staff take turns showing me the grounds. Keep in mind they are all working their regular jobs while taking to time to answer all my questions.Food & drinks: AMAZING!!!

I love Barry Hill Resort! It's a beautiful place filled with historic charm and nestled into the Virginian countryside. I photographed a summer wedding here, and I can't recommend the space and staff at Barry Hill highly enough! The decor and architecture make an incredible backdrop. Additionally, the staff were wonderful to work with warm, and pros at keeping everything running smoothly. The food was also excellent! Everything from the canapés to the entrees was beautifully presented and delicious! Barry Hill Resort is a must if you're looking for a historic venue with a high level of service.

This has a beautiful mansion, friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous grounds and you can walk any where. We walked all over the the mansion, wow, it is gorgeous!! (Sister and I had the Bruce suite for our birthday celebrations and it was lovely!) We visited the family graveyard, learned more about the family and found a written description for a self guided tour of the mansion. We had dinner at the Darby tavern and it was great!! Friendly staff, good food and a great time!!Rooms: The rooms in the mansion are beautiful and our suite were huge, well decorated, and had all the comforts you would expect at a resort.Walkability: Lots of flat ground to walk around the mansion grounds.Food & drinks: The restaurant was closed not the tavern is the best, good drinks, fabulous food and friendly staffNoteworthy details: It has a spa, which we didn't use on this trip , great breakfast is provided and we will definitely go back to explore the ruins and bring onion paper to rub on the graves to read more of the family information

My husband and I got married here in May. I couldn’t say enough good things about the staff and the property. Stephanie was our wedding coordinator and she was AMAZING. She went above and beyond her job description. I called her two days before the wedding on the verge of tears because ALL of our wedding vendors were wanting to know times to arrive/where to park, etc. and I called Stephanie with a million questions. She told me she’d handle all of their questions and called each of them which was definitely not in her job description. She was equally as great wedding day. She told me we could call her anytime we needed and always calmed our nerves! My entire family talked about how great she was and how beautiful BH is. Wish we could do it all over again!!

I had my wedding here, & Phillip couldn't have made me feel more comfortable that our wedding was in good hands. Our day was absolutely magical, & Phillip & team even moved our ceremony location last minute to accommodate a change in weather. I didn't have a day of coordinator, & certainly didn't feel the need for one with Phillip there! The mansion rooms are "dated" to reflect the old- style of the mansion. We did have some plumbing issues, as well as one of the doors to our suite not closing properly unless completely locked. I did encounter one reception assistant who wasn't the most welcoming/ accommodating when I inquired about brunch start time the day after our wedding- "you should have made a reservation."Aside from those two matters, Berry Hill was an amazing venue for our wedding & for our guests. I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

Everything about the Berry Hill Resort was fabulous. I don't think I've ever had better food than at this resort, and the grounds are just absolutely beautiful. The staff are the sweetest people, especially Steven, who helped me put together the wedding of my dreams. They work SO HARD. The planning was a breeze, and I did not have to worry about a single thing. My guests were taken care of, everything went so smoothly, and they were constantly checking in on me to see if I needed anything. I didn't have a wedding planner, so I was nervous about coordination. But thanks to the Berry Hill staff, it was so absolutely perfect. The mansion is incredible, so if you are considering this place for a wedding or a weekend get-away, do it! I promise you will be blown away!

We stayed at the Berry Hill Resort for our nephew’s wedding. The rooms are so nice, with hardwood floors and great water pressure in the bathroom :). We loved that it was quiet! Had a great nights sleep. The complimentary breakfast is ok, but husband really wanted sausage or bacon, which they didn’t have. We didn’t want to go to brunch since it was later in the morning. The complimentary breakfast has coffee, juice, water, yogurt, bagels, muffin tops, tiny quiche, butter (no cream cheese), cold pancakes in the fridge. Later in the morning, they ran out of coffee, I’d recommend brewing twice as much coffee. I give it 5 stars because it was a very pleasant experience (a quiet hotel room is very key to us!) and the wedding was beautiful. The food at the wedding was better for the rehearsal dinner (London broil) than the wedding reception (chicken/salmon), though. My son said the salmon was dry.

It would have all been 5 stars but my only complaint was the air didn't work properly. We turned it on at 2pm and had to keep opening the door to cool the room off. We were up at 3am trying to cool off. Other than that its a beautiful & relaxing property. Clean and staff is friendly, enjoyed being able to sit down and play chess & checkers. They have everything you need there.Rooms: We also really liked the antique beds and the heated towel rack which we've never seen before. Everything was nice and clean as well.

We stayed here for the Blue Ridge Rock Festival and I'm so glad we did! The grounds are absolutely beautiful. There's so much history here! Our standard queen room was absolutely HUGE, clean and very well stocked! They even provided us with 2 Berry Hill water bottles waiting for us in our room! Because the Festival runs very late we called to ask about early check in and they were MORE THAN accommodating! Very friendly staff. My only complaint is the parking but there's not much they can do about that. I'm overall extremely pleased with our stay and will be more than happy to stay here again should we have to travel to South Boston again. We loved the Berry Hill blanket on the bed so much that we just HAD to have our own! (They sell their blankets and robes at the front desk)Thank you so much for a great stay Berry Hill!

Not as great as expected. The rooms and property were gorgeous and very clean, but they didn't have a fridge or microwave in room thankfully we had a cooler. Staff I met was all nice and very helpful and we had fun our night there. Darbys Tavern was a good upbeat place to eat, some of my food was great my SO got shrimp stir fry stuff and for the price you think they would at least serve fresh vegetables not frozen. One thing that got me was the same kitchen and chef service both restaurants but mansion restaurants prices where double the prices at tavern for same food that wasn't great. Prices where up there $18 for 2 shooters was a bit much. Pool was nice and heated and would be a reason to return and the grounds where gorgeous. The womens sauna did not work and I was really looking forward to using this after swimming instead was left wet and cold. Before I left I decided I would get the basic manicure for $50 well the nail tech was great but they had no nail dryers, I was told I was good nails where dry. Within an hour my nails where destroyed because they were not properly dried so I wasted $50. Really it was over priced they soaked nails in a bowl with rocks, did a 1-2 min massage on each hand, put on lotion, and painted nails and that was it; if I'm paying premium prices I expect service to match that. The grounds, hotel, and mansion where nice but alot of the others amenities where soorly lacking.Bed was hard didn't sleep well, NO FRIDGE OR MICROWAVE in rooms, room door stuck and was hard to open, our private balcony we paid for was actually shared with another room, we were only given 2 towels so nothing for my hair or dry towels for second shower. The room was cleaned well.Rooms: No fridge and balcony was shared not private as advertised at booking.Food & drinks: Personally would look into different dining options if we returned. Food quality didn't match high prices.Noteworthy details: It's gorgeous grounds, luxurious feeling in main house, and the history is very interesting.

I enjoyed a two night stay at this well maintained facility. The entry lane is beautiful with the trees creating a canopy inviting you to quaint check in area. The room included a balcony and the resort are while busy during the weekend was quiet at night. The room was comfy and spacious. The food from the tavern was delicious on both evenings with every item hot and delicious! Check in and out went smoothly and a small concern we had one evening was promptly addressed and resolved. Thank you.

If I could give them 10 stars, I would!đź’–Thank you to all of you for your hard work and dedication to my daughter's wedding!đź’•

My wife and I stayed at Berry Hill mid March and the stay was excellent. Friendly staff and the spa was great. I did not find a lot of reviews on the spa so I wanted to put a review out there to say how good my massage and my wife's massage were. Agnes was great and my wife commented on how she did not have to tell her how to adjust the pressure she wanted for the massage. The food was great at the Dabney Tavern. I had the Fried Catfish and it was delicious. It was great we could bring our dog also. Beautiful grounds to walk and explore. Go into town to the Southern Plenty cafe for coffee and breakfast. It is a nice place to relax.

Last minute reservation to attend a race weekend at the VIR racetrack. The usual chain hotels were booked. We enjoyed this facility so much more than the "chain" brands!!Pros:Fantastic staff!! Well kept property to walk around and enjoy. Great history of the main building. Several choices to eat & drink. Main building is classy and beautiful-historic. It has the library bar and white table cloth restaurant (not always open) The wing off of there has a more casual indoor or outdoor dining area. The property hosts lots of weddings which added to the evenings.Cons:They need a bit of an update. Lots of worn chairs, pool table, lack of patio furniture, ice machine broken etc. Parking is not near the actual room wing. The property is not walkable to any restaurant or town. Conclusion:If you want to enjoy a beautiful property instead of chain locations, this is a great place to stay!

What an amazing weekend we had at Berry Hill Resort. We just returned from our very complicated 4 day 70+ people family reunion and I have to say that Berry Hill handled our event perfectly. Our family felt very well taken care of by the staff. The rooms fit perfectly with the décor and the history of the estate. We had a lot of fun exploring the trails, playing pickleball and swimming in the indoor pool. We ate all of our meals on site and the food was done right. We never felt like leaving the property as everything we needed was right in front of us. I really feel like this resort is a hidden gem. The authenticity of Berry Hill is perfect. We will definitely be coming back for another family reunion in the future.

I recently stayed at Berry Hill and attended a wedding there. The resort is beautiful, a perfect setting for a wedding. We never left the resort all weekend. Our hotel stay was great, the rooms were clean, and the staff was most helpful. We ate at Darby's Tavern and the food was AMAZING, my favorite was the Tavern Burger! Thank you, Berry Hill, for your hospitality. I can't wait until my next visit!

This place was absolutely phenomenal. If you are into historic, countryside settings, this is the place for you. Myself, my 4 year old, my dog and my husband stayed here during the week on work trip, and we are so lucky to have stumbled upon the place. We actually had checked in somewhere else in South Boston but the place was disgusting so we left immediately and we're lucky enough to get a room here last minute! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the housekeepers were incredibly accommodating and kept me stocked up with towels and decaf Starbucks coffee. Wish it could have been caffeinated, but I'm pregnant and trying to avoid the stuff. Anyways, the room was absolutely spotless and we were so happy to have a small patio off the back of our simple 'two queen' bedroom so that I could just walk straight out across our brick patio into a large beautiful field through a sea of crepe myrtle trees surrounded by cobblestone walls. The only thing that was unfortunate about the room was that there was no mini fridge or microwave, but there was plenty of ice available and they were actually small kitchen areas with microwaves set throughout the floor that our room was on.The location is fantastic, set just a few short miles outside of town but still within about 10 minutes of anything there is to do in South Boston (which isn't a whole lot but it's close anyways). I would imagine most people staying here are staying for events and for the facility itself, not for the South Boston location. The grounds are well-maintained by very friendly staff who seem to really care for the place. You can take guided tours of the grounds. There are two restaurants on the grounds, one in the mansion and one across from the main lobby. We were just on a business trip so we did not dine at the Mansion restaurant, but we did order room service from Darby's tavern multiple times and we were so happy with everything we received. The deep fried pickles were excellent and my daughter was very happy with the kids menu choices. Prices are very reasonable as well. The continental breakfast was great. Very simple pastries, muffins, cereals, juices oatmeal and coffee cakes etc. Thursday and friday, however, they had a very simple waffle machine set out with delicious batter that both myself and my daughter enjoyed thoroughly. Plenty of hot coffee and tea options in there as well as things like yogurt and boiled eggs. The pool house was absolutely gorgeous. It is separate from the pool and has the most beautiful French doors surrounding half of the building. I bet they open it up in the summer and it's incredible. You walk into the pool house and it smells like a sauna, and fresh wood, I'm sure that's because there is a sauna in both the women's change room and the men's change room! There are plenty of comfortable chairs surrounding the pool and they keep the pool house stocked with towels so that you don't have to use up the ones from your room. We swam at night every single night we were there, and the only complaint I have is that it's pretty dark when you walk out of the pool house so you may need to flashlight if you aren't too steady on your feet. There are lights on the brick walkways, but some of them were not lit.Aside from the pool, they have tennis courts and they have lots of sports equipment available including things like cornhole boards. It's even quite kid friendly, and you have the option to have milk, cookies, and a book delivered to your room in the evening for your child.Had we not been up there working, we would not have needed to leave the resort for anything at all during our entire stay. We loved it and will definitely be returning when we have our next project scheduled in that area. It's also somewhere that I could see myself and my husband going for a quick getaway weekend or even just to take our daughter out for a little vacation.
