Two separate occasions recently I purchased groceries and came home to find some stuff was moldy on the bottom even though the best by date was still a week away. I also received food that was expired but their store sticker was on to mark it down and extended the expiration date past what was on the item by over a week! They're extremely overpriced and all the times I've been there, I've only met two friendly employees. Everyone else is just miserable every time I see them. I take the trip to food Lion instead cause at least I know I'll be getting fresh groceries. It's a shame cause it has so much potential in this town to do great but a lot needs to change.

Old dried bread falls apart when I go to make a sandwich or molded & the bread falls into dust in your hands. The milk is out-dated and/or soured when brought home so you are better off to buy NASTY buttermilk. Cakes and pies are dried and/or molded because they're sold out of date so they need to buy from other companies that have better in-dated products. The meat is green.

Granola bars on the shelf ranged from expired back in July to expired in March. Check expiration dates on every thing you purchase. Watch sale prices as well because I've had plenty of sale items ring up full price. Can't wait for this place to go under and a real company to come in.

The absolute worst customer service amd lack of caring.The managers are rude at best and apparently do not care to loose business and long time customers and if that's not enough top it off with over the top prices on everything.

Handy as pockets to this rural area. Prices are a bit high but convince is important and the beer is always cold! Best grocery store in Rural Retreat for sure. Better prices are at Walmart but that's another 20 miles away. Clean and we'll stocked and the folks are always friendly.

Almost always fast & friendly service. Of course it's not priced like Wal-Mart but it sure does have food city beat all to pieces. I am in here at least 4 times per week.

A pro is there are no crowds. You'll see things less, equal, or more expensive than Walmart here. In meats you find better deals and also because many are local. Now in produce they're way expensive. A lemon 0.99 cents (12/26/2018, consider inflation year to year) a lemon can be found at Walmart now between 25 and 33 cents. A pepper $2.49. Now the apples are less expensive. Is good to do some shopping here but not all. Also is very convenient in a place like Rural Retreat.

Expect out of date products everywhere and way above average pricing on everything. For instance today I had to go by there for eggs. They had around 9 cartons of eggs they went out of date 3 days ago on clearance for 1.17. Walmart had same size eggs for .92 not on clearance. That's just one example of many I have.

Always shop at this store when visiting the area. The bakery is phenomenal taking custom orders. The hot bar also a hit. Easy in & out. Great store servicing that area!

They know me by name, They always special order items that I request. They have the best meat department and a new fresh Seafood department.Charlie, the owner, is a Korean War Veteran and I like to do business at the Food Cntry on Main Street in Abingdon.

most expensive greedy store to shop at... 60.00 gets you 4 items i would rather sacrifice the gas to go to wytheville and im not the only one that fills that way wher3 i can get 12 items for that price... definate they use being 10 miles away from walmart or other grocery stores they use that to their advantage

This store is always clean except for all the food underneath each register. Also please dont have cashiers eat there super at the registers or eat at the registers have cashiers put there personal belonging in a locker there purses& Jackets donor need to at the register & they do not need to be on their cell phones texting there friends during work hours.This is work not social timeAlso get your deli manager to get off her cell phone during work hours she is always on the floor with it to her ear & if she is taking medicine & counting pills in the deli do it where the public can't see it.Also if you are going to reduce meat than dont pile all on to one another. Keep in the meat section it belongs & reduce it like that. When you pile it all in to one corner of the meat Dept it looks really grooss. Most of all lower your prices on beef way to expensive considering this is a farm town. Working in the grocery business for a long time in NY this would never ever fly. So let's try to make Food Country in Rural Retreat a better place to shop.Also employees should never ever smoke in front of the store or Near the entrance of Subway & Food Country that is also very gross.

I went to get a few items today. I seen an employee sitting on the edge of the Milk Cooler. Sometimes have came to the Cashier to check out and they are on their phones. I have to wait for them to finish. Then it's time for me to check out and go home.

Its just like your local IGA. Food prices are fair for the area and the store is clean. Not sure about the "Great Produce" bit since half of the produce coolers are filled with assorted candy bins. Stopped 7/10/20

I love this grocery store. I am in here almost everyday. Descent amount of options for a local grocery store. Prices aren't Walmart prices or anything but they are fair descent prices.
