I heard that Mac's had the best fried chicken in the state. When I stopped by on camping trip through the area I was not disappointed. I've had fried chicken throughout the country and all over the world. This store easily served some of the best. It's a classic piece of fried chicken, so perfect in its simplicity. It's the chicken your granny fried after church on Sundays. It reminded me of a time I'd almost forgotten. I'll stop by for a piece anytime I'm within 30 minutes.

I got here because a website listed this as the best fried chicken in Virginia. Well... The chicken is good. We got two 3 piece meals fresh out the fryer. Each came with a side. We had fried mushrooms and potato wedges. Equally as good as the chicken. The breasts were very moist and cooked to perfection. My drumstick was a little under seasoned, but i can overlook that with the overall taste of the meal. I had a hotdog with all the fixings. It came with chili, coleslaw, relish, onions, and mustard. It was worth the road trip. Beautiful mountain scenery and super friendly staff.

Whether you're on your way to the Wintergreen area, The Priest or Three Ridges Wilderness, or a swimming hole, this country store has something for everyone. Not to mention, VA honey. The cuisine is something you should try as well. Their fried chicken is well known across the area and beyond if you're into the chicken scene. Personally, I love the macaroni salad and their burgers are quite tasty as well. I recommend this spot to anyone looking for a true slice of Americana! Safe travels and enjoy. :-)

Met the owner. Staffed by Family and Locals. Chatted "briefly". Great neighbors. Nelson County is a huge networking community.Excellent fried chicken and tater wedges readily available. Grab and Go. Order and wait menu options available.

We stopped here because we were starving. We have passed it many times and never really gave it any thought. When you get here is a real home-cooked meal. The gas station itself and all the going on around it is really some great entertainment. I recommend getting a burger. They are not a dog friendly establishment.

Food is very good! Breakfast sandwiches are great, they usually have some ready in the mornings or can make to order. Baked beans are fantastic. They also offer useful and frequently needed items on their shelves. Folks here are nice. Gas prices are comparable. Great little country store, a blessing to their community!

This store is noted in a group called Only in Virginia for its fried chicken. We had the chicken....it was good but not exceptional. The store is cool and well stocked. There are several tables for eating on premise. There is a unisex restroom and it was located outside and very nasty.

Chicken not nearly what it used to be and the older lady behind the counter tried to overcharge us by almost $20 on a $45 order. After explaining simple math to her she got disgruntled and upset because I was right and her comment was 'it was only a few dollars'. Go elsewhere the chicken coop in Lovingston has much better chicken and 10x nicer staff. Not to mention they don't think they have to wear mask or it's ok to go from handling money to making people's food, disgusting!

Sometimes the best food is in unlikely places and according to Saveur Magazine and The Washington Post, Mac's is a hidden gem truly hidden in middle of nowhere backwoods Virginia. It's in cellphone reception-less Roseland, Virginia off a few country roads. Once you see the only gas station for miles, it would be easy to move on, but just wait...Mac's is in the gas station!Passing a beaten up truck and a few overall wearing locals, walk inside and order the fried chicken sandwich with all the fixins (onions, lettuce, a jumbo slice of a tomato, and mayo) for a whopping $4. If they ask if you want potato wedges, save $2 and skip it. They weren't very good and you literally get 5-6 of them. The chicken sandwich itself was good for being in a gas station. It's definitely better than Chick-fil-A but not as good as the best you've ever had.If you stumble upon Mac's randomly, you'd be blown away by how good a simple gas station in literally the middle of nowhere could make such a good sandwich. However, if you're coming from a city with good food, save the trip. Sorry Saveur and The Washington Post.

Neat little stop. Seems like a local hang out. Got some snacks and even found bubly water which was a win for a small gas station in the middle of nowhere.
