Whenever we have a serious problem with our lawn or garden or garden pests, we head to Southern States. In addition to sound advice, they offer live chickens and ducks for sale at certain times of the year, Stihl tools, seeds, soil testing, plants and trees, hay and straw, bird supplies and garden accents. The store is super clean and they offer lots of variety. Parking is easy. It can get busy on the weekends.

Great supplier of animal and pet food and meds. All kinds of plants and flowers. Southern States is my main supplier for my pet needs and also my main store for plants and flowers. I love this store. They have the best flea treatment for my dogs and cats. Also they sell horse supplies.

I went here today to pickup some chicken feed, straw, and vegetable plants to put in our garden. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I was impressed with the size of the store and variety of products offered. I wish they would have had a larger selection of vegetable plants, but I did find some nice tomato, sweet pepper, and herb plants.

If I could give zero stars I would! I can agree with the woman down below in the review. U immediately walk in and feel unwelcome. Store is completely over priced... By like 100% . Check Amazon or even Google if u think I'm joking. Management is super unprofessional. It was a good thing I knew what seeds I needed cause I got no help what so ever as several employees walked by without even a offer to help. I mean why bother with the disrespect from employees that obviously don't care along with management, when u got stranges right up the street? They certainly seem to be happy and willing to help whenever u walk in threw the door. Do urself and ur wallet a favor. Go Amazon or Google. And they wonder why there stores are constantly closing down 😂😂😂😂.... Corporate really needs to take a good look at that whole store from the general manager down.

As a mom, I love shopping at this place! So much to share with my kids. They have a nice size bathroom (no changing table though). And the staff is pleasant and helpful. The lady in the outdoor plant section has been working there for years. She's very knowledgeable!

This store is awesome. It is filled with a bunch of associates that know what they are talking about in terms of plants, fertalizer, and more. I went in to buy some fertilizer for my yard and they had about 30 different bags. An associate asked me a few questions and immediately narrowed it down to 3 different products. He then explained the difference for each and suggest the best product for my situation. Awesome customer service and more importantly they are very knowledgeable. I will keep going here just for the knowledge of using the correct product. Go find that at a big box stores.

I have a little (baby) Norfolk pine that my god sister in England sent my mum a few years ago. Since my mum passed away last year, this little pine is extremely important to me! It hasn’t been doing very well so I called Southern States & talked to Edie for advice. She was awesome! I decided to take my pine in. Edie helped me pick out the correct products I needed & she helped me replant it. I’ve named my little pine, Edie, after the woman who cares as much as I do! Thank you Edie! And thank you Southern States for employing people like Edie! She’s an amazing person & a real asset to us all! Cheers! 😀

Great place. The employees are very friendly and helpful. And for the guy’s review about wearing a mask, the store employees have rights too. They can kick you out for not wearing a mask because they are concerned for their health as well!Great store, keep up the good work!!

A great farm store! I especially liked all of the backyard bird supplies. Their prices are also very reasonable. This is also a good store for gardeningA nice line of chemicals for all of your lawn needs. Looking forward to going here again.

Great place to get bird seed, animal feed, gardening tools and other animal or lawn stuff. The variety is decent and the prices are not too bad in my opinion. The staff has always been very helpful and they've always seemed like they know what they are talking about.They're very good on refunds too, so if you bought something that was contaminated or broken, they make it pretty easy to do a return.The location is a little awkward to get into since it is not at an intersection, so you will need to be heading west on Broad Street to get into their parking lot.The store itself is starting to show it's age and sometimes when you go in, there is a strong odor of various things. It's hard to describe it; some people may not like it.I highly recommend them if you are looking for a decent place to find any of the things I listed. This is especially true if one of your hobbies is feeding wild animals.

They offer great customer service in the garden center as well. They have ordered a plant for me in the past, I dont know if that is a service they offer now.

The help I received was wonderful. But they had not watered their nursery plants, shrubs and trees for awhile. They had pots with dead plants mixed in with the ones on their way. It looked like the end of the world. It was not conducive to buy anything that you weren't sure would live. Another lady who was in the garden with me said it was very depressing - I agreed. I asked the manager why the garden was so dry. . . He told me to my face that it was watered 3 times a day and he repeated this to me. First, watering 3 times a day would drown and kill the plants. Second, it would take most of a day just to water once. I guess he thought I was pretty stupid. Third, S.S. paid for all these high quality plants to make a profit but dead or dying plants don't sell very well. I hope the manager is in the learning process but his year end report will show his lack of good business sense. His rudeness is your problem. He could have just agreed with me and promised to get right to it. Remember the old saying - the customer is always right. . .

What a great experience! My better half and I had gone to stranger's. We were treated terribly! They were rude and not helpful at all. The whole experience at SS was fantastic! They made us feel at ease and have completely earned our business! We can not do DIY with confidence!

If i could give them zero stars, I would!We walked in and IMMEDIATELY I felt unwelcome. Several employees and not a one greeted us. No big deal...after all, it's the "prestigious" west end right? My son, his girlfriend, my little dog and I walked around because I'd heard that southern states was a great place for pets, especially dogs. Their pet area was small and filled with unhealthy choices such as alpo. There was a small clearance section (which I could only guess was clearance...no prices or explanations of the yellow sticker on items). I saw an employee walking towards me and I said "excuse me sir...could you tell me what the yellow sticker signifies"? To which he replied under his breath, "I have no idea--I'm busy right now". Ok seriously????? First of all, your store isn't so busy that you can't be respectful to customers and second, I'll never go back in there. When I took the products to the register, I asked the clerk to tell me how much each item cost with the discount. He totally ignored my question and began ringing things up. I said sir i just need to know the prices. He had to back everything up and proceeded to quote me prices that I'm sure were original. I just said never mind and gave him the treats for my dog. The treats, mind you, that were tagged 1.99 yet rang up 2.49. I brought that to his attention and he said no...the way the store manager explained that.. ..i just cut him off and said but it says 1.99 right here on the package. I finally just paid the 2.49 and figured I'd never again go to that southern states store. Save yourself a few headaches and go elsewhere. We also went to The Greenhouse on Mountain Rd. Their prices on plants and flowers were better. Their customer service was also superior.Thanks for reading my review!!!

They changed suppliers for water foul and the new product is horrible. The staff looks like the “Motley Crew” and have no clue what a uniform is. This company is going downhill fast and I simply don’t know who is running the company. Horrible service and store is dirty. It may be farmer owned but listen up farmers you have no clue how to run a retail operation

It's fine for an old peoples store. They have a very limited selection of any thing. Service is very slow paced mostly due to old employees. I have nothing against older people having jobs just stating facts. I stood in line for 15 minutes behind only the one person out the counter because they had to talk about everything old. I have a very limited amount of time in my life to get anything done so I will not be using this place again .

I like that they carry all kinds of things for the yard that you will not find at home improvement stores. Friendly and helpful staff. The little chicks are for sale right now, and they are cute!

Nice product selection but it’s unfortunate how quickly a customer can be turned off due to unfriendly staff. There are plenty of other places to shop in town and when you walk in the door you should always feel welcome. Not my experience with Southern States. Just sad.

Best place for propane refills. Filled based on weight!!!. Buying elsewhere, you have no idea what's in a tank (half filled, 75 % filled, 80% filled), status of valve, etc.I feel much better and safer with a tank that's been under my care and known history.

Everyone in the store was nice and helpful. Even the man who loaded my car was nice. They have a nice lil process to get you in, out, and on your way. Prices are great, too!
