We got our first kitten (name in shelter, gingham), a while back! He got some behavioral issues later on and we worked with him and learned he was lonely. Came again and found hot pockets. She needs to get bigger before she can play but she met pip(ginghams new name) on accident and it went very well! He's far more gentle with her than we expected but we are VERY sure we keep an eye on them both. She's perfect, affectionate and playful. She hates when her feet have to touch the floor, lol! Pip sleeps outside the room we keep her in when we can't watch her with him and hunk. He absolutely adores her, and he's very clearly not feeling as lonely, even when she's in another room. He sometimes meows at me in hopes I'll bring her out for him and it's adorable. He's outside the room now.

We were looking for one cat, and ended up with three! The SPCA made the entire process simpler. The provided access to everything we needed to get our kittens set up. They provided us with ample time with several kittens to allow us space to find the right kittens for our family. Knowing their full histories and having all their updated medicals gave us added piece of mine, and alleviated much potential stress. Thank you for our new family members!

The nicest, cleanest facility we have ever visited. Attention to every detail! Friendly people staffing and volunteering. We had never been here, just happened upon when shopping stores in the area. We are hoping to adopt a small dog in the near future so will definitely be watching the website and dropping back by. Thank you to all who make this a special place for animals needing another chance.

I had gone to the Richmond SPCA a few times before adopting my new boy, Turtle. Every time I went, the staff was very kind and you could tell how much they loved the animals there. When I did eventually adopt my boy, the process was extremely easy and smooth. I am happy to say that Turtle is adjusting very well in his new home. 💚🐢

What an amazing place for animals and humans alike. The staff are super friendly and the facilities are bright, clean, and spacious. They were very open and honest with us to ensure a good fit. It worked out great. Berkley (known then as Bernie) is a welcomed and wonderful addition to our family. So happy we met him here.

Lovely experience at SPCA. While I wasn't there to adopt, I did receive a tour of the facility. Filled with natural light and places for people to interact with the animals. I was there to get information about their dog training program but also learned that children can have birthday parties there. They also accept donations and have list of wanted items on their website. You can even order directly from their Amazon wish list. Staff was friendly and I look forward to returning for the classes.

We adopted our sweet boy from Richmond SPCA. It was a wonderful experience and the staff and counselors were so helpful throughout the process. If we decide to adopt again we will be using Richmond SPCA. The animals are well taken care of. They make sure your new family member is up to date on shots and the vet examined before they are adopted. The visiting areas are clean and the animals are happy. Filling out the adoption questionnaire online before you come in is helpful.

I visited the humane center around 5pm on Friday 11/17/2023 to look for a dog for adoption. After spending about an hour contemplating my options, I decided on a dog and discussed with the adoption coordinator about the process. I was told that they will not be providing anything the dog was to go into their new home with, not even food, which surprised me (dogs shouldn't switch to a new brand/type of food abruptly). Arrangements were made for me to come over the next day to finalize the adoption process to take the dog home and after telling friends and family. The following evening and the next morning I bought dog food, a leash, toys, and a dog bed, as well as get my home situated. I made another 30+ mile trip to and arrived at the humane center 11/18/2023 at around 3:25pm, walked in with the leash and harness in hand ready to take the dog home... only to be told by the young man working at the adoption desk (black male with glasses) that the dog I would like to adopt is no longer available due to being on "medical hold." There was another young brown hair lady with glasses with the gentleman I spoke to at the adoption desk. They asked whether my interaction with the adoption desk the prior day was through the phone. I reiterated that I was there on in-person and met with the dog and the adoption coordinator to discuss my plan to adopt... and that no "medical condition" was mentioned. They then alleged that it happened later in the day yesterday. I told the gentleman that I was here around 6:00pm evening prior and the dog was fine. He then said well it probably happened after that time, which I don't believe at all. I also mentioned that they have my number and contact information. If it really did happened after my visit the previous evening, and I've discussed about coming into adopt him, why wasn't I even contacted, not even an email. He couldn't come up with a defense and just apologize. The fact that he apologized, remained professional, and RECOGNIZED that I was not happy with how this matter was handled is the only reasons why this review didn't get a 1-star rating.I used to volunteer with Richmond SPCA and recognize that they are not the best when it comes to administrative matters. But I was just a volunteer at the time so their lack of competency in administrative management and operations efficiency didn't bother me too much. But because I was negatively impacted by their incompetence and lack of consideration for prospect adopters, I felt like I had to give my two cents. My suspicion is that they're holding the dog for someone who later expressed interest.I will NOT be supporting Richmond SPCA from now on, nor will I recommend them to philanthropist-minded individuals to donate to them.Poor administration of animal welfare and adoption process like what Richmond SPCA does the reason why people end up going to BREEDERS instead of adopting.

This is the sweetest baby (ex name was cosmos) we got her a couple of months back and she is hilarious she’s definitely “food motivated “ for sure lol . She has been one the best dogs I ever met she doesn’t bark a lot though she actually gets irritated hearing other dogs bark and will only bark when she’s annoyed very sassy dog but it’s hilarious. The process to get her was so smooth and we love that we were able to get another family member from the spca . She has skin allergies so at first it was a process of making sure she was comfortable but after some medication and some bubble baths she’s been doing so good . She farts on people that’s really the only downside , thank you all so much

It was a very busy Sunday, and the wait to adopt my new kitty took SO long. But, after that, all went well. BTW, not sure why it's SO expensive to adopt a pet, but whatevs. 🤷🏿♀️

The facility itself is great. However, they didn’t let us see the dogs we wanted because of the dogs history and advised us on dogs they think is best for our home. Although, I understand some of their reasoning, they can’t assume one dog will be the same in every home. Some of these young dogs (1 year-2years) have “bite history”. The dog may have been in homes with people who don’t know how to handle dogs. That shouldn’t be an absolute reason for them to assume a dog don’t belong in another home. Left disappointed to not adopt dogs that we liked and didn’t even have the chance to interact.

The animals are lovingly cared for. Families or individuals visit with animals in individual rooms and meet with a staff member afterwards to discuss the visit, the animals health and have any questions answered.

They knew beforehand that I had a cat that sometimes goes outside, yet they let me meet a cat for over 30 minutes before first "recommending" my cat be tested for FeLV and FIV to, after asking me if I want more time with the cat, to telling me they won't let me adopt a cat untill I can prove my cat doesn't have FeLV or FIV. I went home and checked my cat's records. They wouldn't even let me finish telling them the name of the vaccine my cat had before telling me they niw want a new test done on my cat. I don't know when they decided they weren't going to let me adopt or why, but I definitely got the feeling they simply didn't want me to adopt and were coming up with excuses. I have had a cat all my life, and they always go to the vet, and they have never even gotten sick. What is the real reason they wouldn't let that kitten have a loving, healthy home?

They were kind enough to let us visit with the cats without intent to adopt, and the facility is so nice! We've had birthday parties there before that went very well, and we really enjoy visiting with the animals when we can!

This is an amazing place to adopt a rescued animal. They are knowledgeable on their animals, take time with their process and are very thorough with both temperament and health. Thank you Jocelyn for all your help. I think this dog is going to mesh with our troubled girl. :-)

Adopted these two sweet little boys who are brothers! They were communicated to be a bonded pair despite them needing some time to warm up with one another once we brought them home. Fast forward 4-5 days and they were grooving with one another again! So happy to have these sweet nuggets in our home and life. Moonshine (long haired boi) and Sunshine (short haired guy) are now known as The Shiner boys!
