Our stay at Sandy River Outdoor Adventure was FANTASTIC!We stayed at The Eagles Nest Cabin, and the accommodations were very nice. The cabin was clean, the beds very comfortable with fresh linen, and great amenities . We also enjoyed the Tasting Room at Sandy River Distillery, which was in walking distance of the cabin.Special Kudo"s to Andrew (Operation Manager), Andrea, Ashley, Mary Elizabeth, Tyler and the cleaning staff for making our stay enjoyable. What a great staff!!!

We had a delightful stay at this charming cabin with our family and our small dog! The cozy space provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The cabin's beautiful light and layout made us feel right at home. Its proximity to Longwood University was perfect for our visit with family. We also had a fantastic time at the nearby distillery, enjoying live music and delicious drinks. Our son particularly enjoyed interacting with the farm animals and collecting fresh eggs. We're already looking forward to returning for the summer activities. The only minor inconvenience was the spotty wifi, but truthfully, it was a welcome opportunity to disconnect and unwind for a while.Rooms: comfortable, cozyNearby activities: Distillery, Fishing lake, Longwood University

We cannot say enough about our tipi stay at Sandy River! This is a small business doing everything the right way -- friendly, prompt service and great attention to detail. It is obvious that the staff enjoy working there and the owners have grown the business in a thoughtful way. We were unprepared to cook the first night we arrived, and the staff recommended Wayfast delivery service. This was a huge find -- we were able to have a local restaurant-quality meal in the tipi with no preparation (an advantage of glamping over camping!), and cooked on the campfire the rest of the weekend. The tipi came equipped with everything we needed to make our meals -- cast iron cookware, bowls, plates, glasses (including wine glasses!), silverware, basic seasonings, corkscrew, can opener, drying rack, knives, tongs, foil, etc. Coffee and tea are supplied, along with ample towels and toiletry items. The tipi was beautifully decorated and incredibly comfortable. The bed was of better quality than most hotels -- great mattress and super soft sheets -- and the temperature control exceeded our expectations, even during a very cold night with a significant storm. The heated floors are next-level greatness on a chilly night. We had delicious cocktails at the distillery and listened to a live band in the open-air section of the bar one night. The environment is peaceful and quiet, and a quick drive to restaurants in Farmville, multiple grocery stores, and plenty of hiking trails. Mini goats were the friendliest, followed by slightly suspicious chickens and sweet but skeptical donkeys. We did not use the adventure park during this stay, but we will definitely be back and highly recommend this location to anyone seeking a restful, relaxing, easy weekend away! EDIT -- The tipis have well water, and it is crisp, refreshing, and so much better than city supply. No need to buy bottled water!

We did the high ropes course and were the only ones there on a Tuesday afternoon! So fun and challenging and the harness system is easy to use and gives you so much freedom without having staff constantly having to help. Wonderful experience!Safety: The full body harness are very safe and foolproof. The staff are very safety conscious and helpful at explaining all the nuances of the zip lines and ropes clipping in and out.

I stayed here with my family over the weekend, it was incredible. We spent the most of the day hiking around high-bridge trail and sight seeing around historic FarmVille. When we weren’t out and about adventuring we were relaxing around the teepees and at the fantastic distillery just across the street. The next day we went zip-lining it was so much fun! I will definitely be back very soon!Rooms: The rooms are so luxurious I would take this over the four seasons anytime! Then you account for the price and it’s hands down the best deal for a resort I’ve ever seen. 5 star rooms at a fair and reasonable price.Nearby activities: Going to the distillery and zip line course are a must. Next time we plan on going out on sandy river reservoir it looks beautiful.Safety: I’ve never felt safer even at my own home.Food & drinks: There were food trucks at the distillery it was delicious.Noteworthy details: The zip line course and distillery on the same property is an incredible combo.

We were just here for the adventure park. An exceptional experience from start to finish. I loved the different courses for the many different types of individuals and ages. The three hours they give you is plenty of time. I was spent after i did only two of the courses, but my son hung in there for the full three hours and did every course they had just to say he did them all. The equipment was very well maintained and safe. The staff were all amazing and had lots of fun. If we didn't have the kids with us, we would have finished off at the distillery, but we will be back. We paid the summer discount rate, however if we had to pay the full rate we wouldn't have been disappointed.

Excellent accomodations but wasn't expecting a large cleaning fee that exceeded 75 dollars--not mentioned at time of booking. Had u known, probably wouldn't have booked an overnight.Rooms: Comfortable

We enjoyed our stay in one of the Tipis overall. 2 things I'd like to point one out; one is the check in process which could use some improvement. Upon being directed to my Tipi, we were not provided with general check in information such as directions to the distillery, key location, and I'm just learning about farm animals that guests had access for visiting (had no idea this was a thing). Perhaps this information is emailed to customers ahead of time, but it would be nice to have employees provide a thorough overview in the check in process. The second thing also aligns to customer service overall. We requested new sheets and towels on day 2 early in the morning and the request fell through the cracks. We had to follow up in the evening to get them delivered.Other than this, its a great spot for glamping and the hiring trails near Farmville are breathtaking.

Honestly, no bad experience here. I loved it so much. Check in was easy, everyone was nice, it's close to restaurants and shops (sadly didn't experience them though as they are closed on Sundays and Mondays), and I LOVED THE FARM ANIMALS.Thank you for the lovely time.Oh and everyone does everything, don't be surprised if your adventure park facilitator is also your drink server. They earned that tip! :)

My family of four took the weekend to recharge by staying at the Chalet Cabin for a weekend. We have always wanted to stay at a cabin and we were excited to have our dog join us on a weekend trip for the first time. While making the reservation, the Chalet Cabin seemed perfect for us. Upon arrival and during our stay, the cabin did feel slightly cramped, but because we stayed for 3 days/2 nights, it wasn't an issue. The cabin came with a small but full kitchen which met our needs. Our daughters, 20 and 16 slept on the pull out couch on the main floor while my wife and I slept in the upstairs room. Two tv's with access to Netflix was enough entertainment for us when we were in the cabin. With a grill just outside our cabin, we grilled lunch and dinner during our stay for the weekend.Everything on the property was surprisingly easy and close to access. Our daughters loved the zip line course (maybe because they had it all to themselves). They did specifically mention that the staff was extremely helpful and nice and were readily available in case they needed help. The office, distillery, farm animals, pool, and everything that the resort offers was easily accessible. The lake for the kayak activities is a short 5 minute drive away and the bike rental store was a short 10 minutes away in FarmVille. We are looking forward to returning to this peaceful, quite, and fun outdoor adventure!

Having been an employee of the location for a number of years, seeing how much the place has changed within 3 years is quite overstimulating, in the absolute best way possible. Having never stayed in a cabin or tipi during my employment, it was a well welcomed opportunity to get the Sandy River experience with a few friends. On our arrival the Deer Run cabin was very clean, cold and ready for stay. Staff park (shout out to Maddie and Abby) were very accommodating and patient with the new climbers. We were able to use the pool across the way, hang out with the donkeys and horse as well as get a few outstanding cocktails at the distillery and have a great end to the summer season. Although I already talk the place up to coworkers, will be dragging a few by their ears to make them have fun in the near future

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Moon Dance Tipi and had a fantastic experience. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. The Tipi was so fun! We picked veggies from the garden! We also enjoyed the adventure courses and tandem Kayaking! Cooking in the fire pit by our tipi was so rewarding and the food was delicious every time. The distillery was quaint and the bartender was so friendly. We were offered samples of the of the whiskey/ bourbon and vodka before we chose a cocktail. Both were very smooth! Overall we all enjoyed the trip and the entire experience. We will be back!

We did the ropes course and it was great. It helped that it was raining so we ended up having the whole course to ourselves but the staff was very thorough in their instruction and then checked in routinely while we were on the course. I really enjoyed the fact that you were self paced on the course, hooking yourself in and out once you left the start point. A very creative set up quite different from many places I have seen.

I can't say enough wonderful things about our weekend getaway to Sandy River Outdoor Adventure! It was truly one fantastic weekend! We stayed in a tipi with our two kids (11 and 8) and enjoyed biking on the high bridge trail, swing from trees on the ropes course, and drinks at the distillery. The staff was absolutely hands down the best ever. They were friendly, helpful, and always there when you needed something without hovering. Our ropes course guide was great with the kids! The distillery really is family friendly. There was plenty of room for the kids to run around while we enjoyed an adult drink or two. One afternoon we had a big table and played a family board game. The next night we enjoyed live music while the kids chased bugs in the field. The tipi was so amazing. The beds were great. The décor was perfect. There was plenty of space for our family of 4. The floors were heated and a fantastic surprise on a chilly morning. The only very small minor note that I would mention is that the fridge in the tipi is a mini fridge. It didn't hold a lot of food and it didn't keep what food it held very cold. If you are planning on bringing your own food to cook for 2 days, I would keep that in mind. But really, this place rocks and we all can't wait to come back!

Literally one of my best experiences of 2023. The staff was very friendly and pleasant and the grounds were beautiful and peaceful. The tipi we stayed in was breathtaking. We also booked a tasting at the distillery some of the best drinks and vibes. I booked this as a getaway for my lady and I and we were both so pleased and happy and will be back in the future.Definitely recommend bringing foods that can be cooked on a fire (weather permitting) we brought hot dogs and s’mores but they do provide that if needed. For someone who wants to feel like camping without literally braving the elements this is the best place to come!

My 15 and 11 year old granddaughters and I decided to try the ropes and zip line course. It was a challenging but fantastic experience. The staff was kind with their instruction and advice and patient as we learned “the ropes”. We will definitely be back.Safety: Safety features were carefully explained and calmed any fears about progressing through the course.

We booked and paid for a sunset kayak, but the day of the cruise I received a message telling me that they could not do it. I was upset as we had planned trip and booked a house nearby for the sole purpose of this kayak. I asked if they could just leave the kayak for us at the location and was told they would have talk to the manager. When I asked to talk to the manager myself (I was told his name was ?Mark Smith), I was told he said that he could not even talk to me. When his employee called me back, they said that they had to cancel because we were the only ones on the cruise, and they could not spare staff to transport a kayak for so few people. I found this response quite disappointing. If they allow people to book and accept their money, I think that they should honor the trip. I doubt that they would have been so understanding if I had tried to cancel on them last minute. I would not recommend relying on them and was disappointed by their response and the manager declining to speak to me about it.

This is the second adventure I have taken down to Sandy River. The first was for a girls day trip and the second for my daughter who has been using to go since I returned. Kevin and Nick, the adventure course instructors were nothing but helpful and professional! I am so glad we returned and will be bringing our youngest when old enough!

Everything was perfect! Our tipi was so nice and clean! We enjoyed our stay. The family /staff was very nice. We usually camp in tent at campground and this was our first Glamping experience and love it! The only thing we didn’t know that there was no stove/portable gas stove while it was pouring and a power outage on our first night of our stay so we ate breakfast for dinner but it’s not a big deal. Things can happen. Reminder to self to bring a portable next time. Definitely will be back! My kids enjoyed and love it so much!

This was an amazing experience for our family! The tipis were so cool - so much room for a family of 4 and heated. We love the luxury of the tipi with a little camping (cooking by the fire). My girls loved getting eggs from the chickens in the am. The staff was super friendly. We did the Adventure Park had a BLAST! We left and already booked our trip for October!Edited: We came back in October and rented all the tipis with some school families. We had a blast! We could still use the pool and really enjoyed playing all over the grounds. They have sports equipment and the day was perfect to do the Adventure Park, have an early happy hour and play kickball. I highly recommend as an only family or with a group. And Morgan and team were amazing!

We loved our stay at Sandy River! Do you like the idea of camping but wish your tent had a full bathroom, kitchen, and a comfy bed? If so, a tipi stay is for you. The tipi was exactly as pictured and was super clean. It was definitely chilly at night, but there was a space heater, AC/Heat wall unit, and radiant heated floors. There was lots of space inside and it didn't feel cramped, and the tipis are spread apart so you really feel like you have a big site to yourself. The tipi had everything you need - all linens, soap, shampoo, etc. It also had dishware, utensils, basic spices, and a cast iron skillet to use over the camp fire. Having a fridge (they said it was a "small fridge" but it's much bigger than a mini fridge you'd find at a hotel and has a separate freezer) as well as a microwave and toaster oven was super helpful. There's no need to bring camp chairs because each tipi has its own fire ring, Adirondack chairs, and a picnic table. The property itself is gorgeous. There were animals, including a chicken coop where you could get fresh eggs in the morning. The distillery and bar area was beautiful. And you can't beat the night sky here. I don't think I've ever seen so many stars! Overall, had a great stay and can't wait to come back!

This is one of the coolest places we have ever stayed!! You can really tell how much the owners care about their business. From the beautiful furniture (a lot of it sourced locally we noticed!) to the bins of toys at the pool and game area, they really thought of everything to make the stay as fun as possible! We brought our own toilet paper because usually hotel provided tp is terrible and they even impressed us with that because theirs was the good stuff! Sometimes it’s the little things that matter the most! When we checked in we got there right as their office was closing but Morgan who checked us in insisted on still helping us load our stuff on to the golf cart to bring to the tipi and show us how everything works. I thought that was so sweet. Our kids freaked out over the tipi! When we had to leave they were the saddest I’ve ever seen them at the end of a trip 😂 the live music at the distillery was great too, and the drinks were delicious! My kids loved checking for eggs in the morning and were super excited to find some on our last day! We can’t wait to be back!!
