Small selection for products but overall the store is generally kept clean and neat. Check your expiration dates though while you're shopping, as ive had a few products way past their exp date over the last few years. Has a nice little selection of overseas products from Japan and Taiwan that my spouse and I grew accustomed too.If you use self check-out be aware of the products you're placing in your cart. If they don't have a barcode you'll be upcharged. Got the same 2 percent Maola milk I always do. That day none of milks had product labels or barcode labels on the jugs.I showed the older lady, who mind you was and is always very sweet to customers, watching self-checkout. I called her over about the mill and showed her the price per the app which is 2.50. She was adamant that amount was incorrect and that the person before me got it and it was 3.10, I paid for it because I was needing milk.Just went back yesterday and it rang up 2.50 as it always does. Even Walmart doesn't charge 3 for milk and I come here to avoid the hassle of that store. LolOverall a nice, little commisary. Will still return. Prices are good on most products compared to the big box stores around here.

Not crowded! Excellent produce! A little less variety than the larger commissaries as expected. A little bit larger than a Walmart neighborhood market. Friendle helpful staff!

Never too crowded. But be aware of expiration dates. The last couple of times I've been, I've come home with expired food. Check all your dates while shopping and be on the lookout for moldy bread.

Poorly marked WIC items and almost everything expires within 5 days of purchasing the product. Below average for a navy commissary. Moldy produce can also be found within 25 steps into the building.

Of the Navy commissaries in the are this one has become my favorite. Small, easy to get in and out, not crazy busy, but still a decent selection. The reason for 4 stars is it has been hit or miss on some produce items, but based on the current supply chain issues I don’t place all the blame on them. Best part about this location is the pre-sliced deli items in one of the coolers to help with just grab and go. Plus for those living on the shipyard it is an easy walk back and for for small trip or to grab something quick or something that was forgot.

Why is there no number listed on the web site. Some items are not always available. I travel from gates County to sometime discover that the item is not available.( I.e. meats)

This is the first time that I've visited a commissary in quite some time. I am a USAF vet, but my husband and I are down visiting our USN son. I was VERY surprised at the prices!! I really didn't see much difference between this and a regular grocery store. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. And the location is about 3 minutes from my son's appt.

A hIdden secret. It's my favorite comissary to shop. I can go up and down the aisles and take my sweet time grocery shopping. Not many people frequent here, i guess, because of location. It's nicely arranged. All fruits and vegetables are always so fresh. Have chicken wings and affordable eggs all the time. Commissary staff are always pleasant.

I live in Portsmouth and very grateful for this Commissary! I specifically want to comment on a specific employee by the name of Ms. April who normally works at the self checkout registers. Ms. April is a Wonderful employee at the Portsmouth Scott Center Annex Commissary who is very nice and helpful! I must add that Ms. April always have the plastic grocery bags ready for you to just put your groceries in them without having to fumble with the bags myself trying to open them. That may be something small to others but that means a lot to me! I can tell when Ms. April is working the self checkout area because multiple plastic bags are open and ready to go! This commissary should be glad to have such a Great employee. Thank you Ms. April for your outstanding customer service!

As a military family living in Chesapeake, this commissary is the closest and most convenient. Although it is smaller than Norfork and Little Creek, it still has a great selection and is pretty stocked up. It's never been too busy when I've went, even after a pay day. Great produce, meat selection and all. I love heading here and still getting the most our of a food shopping trip.

I enjoy going to the Commissary always have. I have seen them change here in Portsmouth for the last 43 years and I still love the store. The prices are fair for active duty and retired.

Very helpful staff. Overall pricing lower than most grocery stores, including Walmart. Although, considered a smaller commissary the variety is outstanding. Deli is great.

Love this Commissary I can get in and get out quick. It's small but has everything you need. I think what I love about it the most is that it's kinda tucked away and not as hectic compared to the other Commissaries i frequent in the Hampton Rds area. Not to mention it's also the closer to my home now that we moved than all others.

I had my first bad experience here today with a bagger and was really disappointed. Being a reservist’s wife and our first time on active duty and near a commissary, I didn't know that you were supposed to tip the baggers after they help deliver the groceries to your car. They've always just done it for me and I assumed that was how it worked. The lady had asked for a tip and I never carry cash on me so I apologized that I couldn't, and then she was really rude about it as she walked off. I was shocked.Other than this experience, I enjoy doing all our grocery shopping here. It's never crowded. it's the perfect size to get everything we need. The staff is friendly other than that one incident. And they always get checkout done quickly which is great since I always have my kiddo with me. I also like that they will post signs in areas where you might normally find a product letting customers know they are currently out of it. This makes it a lot easier instead of having to dig around trying to find what you need. My son’s favorite thing about grocery shopping at the commissary is that they have carts with steering wheels so he feels like he’s driving around the store.

Clean, good fresh food, plenty meats, plenty of parking, good cashiers... EXCEPT for OUR LAST VISIT, I had finished putting my groceries on the belt and she was just standing there and she was standing there stoll not saying anythinging, so we were both standing there, I'm looking at her as she just looked at my groceries. so I asked her was there something I am not doing, still she didnt say anything..she was an Asian lady so I supposed she couldn't speak English well... then I remembered I hadn't shown her my military id... CRAZY, normally I go to other supermarkets, I didn't think to present my ID... she could have just said, "ID PLEASE,"but that was my first and last encounter with her... the store still gets a 5 star

I mentioned to the manager that the clerk at the deli counter was not very customer oriented. Even though she was making sandwiches she should have acknowledged the two customers waiting for her. We felt invisible.I was surprised that many shelves/chillers were empty. There were no small cans of corn nor bags of Splenda.Otherwise we found the goods and services very good.
