If I could give this place a 0 star review I would. I went into dollar general on airline Blvd on 12/31/22 first thing in the morning about 8:00am. I am a couponer and has used coupons through the dollar general app for some time now. I went into the store and grabbed all the items I needed. I went to checkout and this kind young man helped me ring up the items. I entered my phone number and the card reader said that the coupon system was down so he asked me what coupons I was using and that he would enter them manually. So I went through all the coupons and even showed him the images to associate with the items I was purchasing. At the end I also told him that I wanted to use the $5 off $25 dollar general coupon you get every week for use only on Saturdays. As he was entering the coupon the other lady which I assumed was the manger came over and was like no no no you can’t use that if the total is not $25 before tax. WELL. I’m not dumb and I know how to count and add up the totals with and without coupons. I’ve done this for some time now so I know the rules and how it works. Anyways, the manager wouldn’t allow me to use my $5/25 coupon so I ended up paying way more then I wanted. But at the end of the day it wasn’t about the coupons it was her demeanor and how she came across. Very come and rude. And didn’t even bother to look at my items or the total. I even added it all up in my car before I pulled away and it still made sense for the $5/25 coupon to be eligible. Moral of the story don’t coupon at the dollar general if they can’t or I should say the manager can’t follow the rules and procedures. The other employee was very kind and sweet and willing to help me complete my transaction.

I'm giving it 3 stars because I know I've seen this store much nicer. I've been here and it was really good but this time. The aisles were blocked. Looked like the floors hadn't been swept. It was just a mess. The lady at the Register was nice but honestly I doubt I will go back. An absolute mess. But I've seen it look much nicer. Maybe I caught it at a bad time.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE BAD ATTITUDE CASHIERS , working here on 7/19/22 . locked the door at 9:58p . Please run your cameras back. I don’t appreciate how Ericka looked directly at me and locked the door and turned her back. You will see on camera another customer was exiting the door at the same time. But she locked it as soon as she seen ME . At the door I told her it wasn’t even 10pm yet . Her lead cashier came out and said we closed . I told her the same that it was not even 10pm yet. They used the last two minutes to Purchase items for themselves but not me the customer whom you advertise that you are OPEN UNTIL 10! ITS THEIR JOB TO SERVE UNTIL 10pm . IF U CLOSED BEFORE TEN . THIS STORE NEED TO CHANGE THE SIGN ON THE DOOR. They act like staying open until 10pm is a problem for them. And what’s worst is my kid witness how Both those bad wig cashiers treated me.

This store is convenient because of my residence, however they are not always stocked very well and the cashiers are not very nice (well minus 2 cashiers I have ran into) A very tall man with glasses and a young woman who may be Russian. The others are rude and get angry when you ask for help with locating items within the store.

The place has EVERYTHING but the con is that navigating through the store can be a chore. It feels cluttered and hard to maneuver. Items aren't always where you'd assume they would be, which can he frustrating.However, I gave it 4 stars because the customer service was awesome. A Ms. Monique was personable and didnt shrug me off when I asked for help. She made sure I was satisfied with the products I was looking for and turned a chore into a fun situation. Stores like these don't make me expect much but good customer service makes a world of difference.

Always clean, neat and organized. The shelves ste print and the staff the are super friendly. It's my go to for quick store trips. I like the update they've done. Ir looks really nice inside.. though now, I can't zoom through the site as fast because I now don't know where everything is.. lol. I'll get used to it.

I just left the (2) different Dollar General stores in Portsmouth, Va. one on Airline Blvd and one on Portsmouth Blvd. Neither employee acknowledged me or spoke and the female at the Portsmouth Blvd location was very short with me. Please think about retraining staff and alerting them the importance of good customer service. As customers continued to come in, they didn't speak to them as well. Not a good way to begin your day or New Year...Thanks a lot DG...

I usually shop at this store for the best deals. Would have given 5 stars but I came in today and asked an associate if there were any Xmas trees. He said he wasn't sure. And didn't offer any help.

Nasty, filthy, messy shelves store smelled like pot. Inappropriate loud music playing at the register. Cashier Ke had ear buds in on the phone while ringing up customers

Good prices but store is not organized. The security clip they put holes in the garments damages product. The items are not properly stacked. Need improved.

Made a trip there to pick up some ginger ale that was in that morning's sale flyer. There was NONE on the shelves and no empty spot where it might have been. They just didn't have it.

They really should hire more employees. Seems like they always have stock that the only cashier in the store is trying to put up between customers. Can be very inconvenient at times

Rude workers that don't greet all the customers and I brought Rachel Ray Dog bones the beginning of November for my dog gave her the last one yesterday looked at the expiration date IT EXPIRED 3 MONTHS AGO!!! STOP SELLING EXPIRED DOG PRODUCTS SECOND TIME I CAUGHT YA!!!

Don't like the fake people have to have the app in order to get the discount other wise you have to pay full price no matter how much you spend and I always spend $50 or more I have a hard time signing up with the app so I guess I'll take my money else where and start shopping at family doller

Products are hard to find after remodeling. Bingo crowd down the strip cleans out the cheaper snacks and candy and are slow to restock .

Just Tried To Go In After 8am and the doors are still locked but says they're open, no one answered the phone either. Adjust opening times if they are incorrect

This is the store where a manager was harassing a customer. The manager was out of uniform so the customer was not aware that the man following her was a manager.
