Not a fan of this location. Most times the peppers are old looking, onions be rough with dark spots and mushy areas, Multiple times i have bought meat produce, have it in the fridge over night to cook the next day only to open it and have a terrible odor. If this store could improve upon anything, is that the vegetables they sell need to be under more vigilence. Its been a awhile since the meat fiasco, havent had anymore run ins with that. Buy the organic bagged veggie, sealed in wrap or small bags. Better quality.

I’m pretty disappointed that the ground beef delivered to me this evening, February 15, 2023, from Food Lion’s To Go service had a “sell by” date of 3:37pm YESTERDAY, February 14, 2023. When I pay close to $6 for a pound of hamburger plus the fee to deliver it to my car trunk, I’d prefer that it be safe to eat and not, like this, expired more than 24 hours ago and must be discarded. To add insult to injury, I attempted to contact the store by phone and repeated calls were unanswered for at least 15 minutes. I expect better from this service, please.FOLLOW UP: I was eventually able to use the app to report the issue and received an immediate credit to my account for the price paid. I appreciate that they made it right, though it did cost me a second trip to the store. On my next trip to the store the following day I was able to message the employee doing the shopping for my Food Lion to Go order and explain the issue with the previous purchase and that employee made sure to select the freshest package of ground beef with the expiration date the furthest out for me, which was very good customer service. Thanks!

Last week, when I was going through the checkout line, I noticed that it was pouring outside, absolutely pouring. I hadn’t parked close at all, and I was standing under the roof and thinking about getting drenched. Daniel, one of the Food Lion employees, told me to wait a minute and he would go inside and get an umbrella. He came back out with 2 umbrellas and walked me to my car! I was so surprised and thankful and I doubt if I would get service like this anywhere else! Thanks so much, Daniel!

So incredibly crowded...Sunday after church, I shouldn't be surprised. The young woman at the deli was delightful! Good stock in all products. Appreciated the items they have in stock that aren't in my hometown Food Lion.

Decent sized local grocery store conveniently located right outside the Turkeysag gate of Lake Monticello. Has pretty much anything you would need with a few exceptions: no caffeine free Pepsi (they do have diet caffeine free), no decaf dark roast coffee k-cups (they do have light roast decaf and half-caff), and a very limited supply of seltzer (2 or 3 varieties in 1 liter size). I'm caffeine free, so I noticed the lack of these items - most people wouldn't. They also don't have fresh or frozen bagels. What they do have is previously frozen and then thawed bagels that are wet and sticky and gross to touch, but taste fine toasted. They have a small ready-made hot food kiosk and in-store roasted chickens, either hot or cold.

My husband and I are both sick with Covid, so we tried instacart for the first time. The order was delivered and we added a tip onto the bill when I paid online. We found that two items that we ordered and paid for were not delivered. I've been trying to call the store and I just get a recording that they are busy helping other customers and to call back. Yup, it's been 45 minutes of that, so far. I looked online and it states that the store is much slower than normal. Hmm

Recently every to go order I've made has been late or I've had to cancel due to the lack of employees available to shop. There's no apology or even concern or care for the inconvenience. Honestly they should probably just rid of it seeing as they cannot keep up with the demand. Being one of the only stores in the area you would think they would be more inclined to maintain decent standards.

Both food and service were great as always! And that is saying something as we have been dining here for the past 10+ years.

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one is because of Kyle, the amazing checkout dude! This store has too much product. You can barely move your cart around. Overweight employees and people delivering product loiter in the aisles and don't move even when you ask. Then an employee, barreling through the store, unable to see around his pile slammed into my cart. Silence. Everyone stunned. And the employee blamed me!

I live near this store and it’s very convenient, but the produce section needs more attention. We try to get organic produce and it’s not always fresh. Yesterday, there were several packages of broccoli that had started turning brown. Today, I’m taking back some organic apples that I purchased yesterday that appeared to look good in the store, but noticed several had bruising on them after I got home. I thought I’d just deal with it and took a bite out of one this morning only to find out that it was mealy. So, they’re going back. This is by far not the first time I’ve gotten bad produce or had to return items. We do enjoy the very good sushi there though.

The staff here are SO nice and helpful and they have really great house plants for very cheap. I loved stopping in here on a way to a friend's house and I will definitely make it the go-to location when I'm in the area.Fresh, quality produce, extensive organic options, a wide variety of gluten free products, and very reasonable prices. Feel free to stock up on staples here, you won't find better value nearby.

This is the only grocery store in the Lake Monticello area, so it benefits (or suffers depending on your perspective) from no competition. Despite living nearby, we prefer to do most of our grocery shopping in Charlottesville since that's where I work and there are many more options there. Stores with more variety, better shoping expirences, or competitive prices. But the Food Lion here at the lake does its job for when we need to grab a few things and aren't going to drive all the way to Charlottesville or Zion Crossroads. There aren't many negative or overly positive things to say about this Food Lion, it does its job, but it would be really nice to have more options in the area.

Pretty good selection, all the basics and then some. Mostly fair prices, a little sticker shock on the meat prices. Convenient to the Lake Monticello area. Where they excel is in resolving problems. Customer service is excellent.Update: 04/22 I have grown to love and appreciate our Food Lion. It's been remodeled since my last comments and still a wonderful staple to the community. The staff is still friendly and great. In a time when a lot of places seem to strive for mediocre, it's always a pleasure to walk in to our Food Lion and see the amazing customer service they give everyone. I've upgraded my original 4 stars to 5. They've earned it.

Everyone is always very helpful and super friendly. The place is always clean including the rest rooms, which is very helpful when trying to take a toddler out in public. The only thing i can think of slightly negative is the speed of the deli counter, but not a big deal to me. Keep up the great work guys!

Nice clean store, friendly staff. This is off season for them in this coastal town. Plenty of stock on hand for basic cooking, some sections like produce, meats were slim pickings but understandable. I am certain by now they are getting ready for the crowds to arrive!

Their people are polite but not necessarily engaging. They are doing better with their organic produce and such. Lately some items have disappeared from the shelves never to return. All in all a good store. I worked in groceries in my earlier days.

Regardless of what corp. 'claims', staff does not mask, distance or disinfect. The employees are very nice. The management leaves a lot to be desired however. The produce is quite literally 'bottom of the barrel', and they have no qualms about selling out of date dairy items or 're-frozen' foodstuffs. In a pinch it's good for canned food, bread (check the date) or condiments.Aside from that, as nearby as they are, making trips to and fro to make returns doesn't save me any time or money.I buy everything else 'elsewhere.'

Good all around neighborhood supermarket They are not on par with Wegmans but you could do a lot worse. The Food Lion brand cheeses are excellent. If I had one complaint, they, along with many other stores have put in far too many self checkout lines. That's corporate greed. I'm not doing the job that these corporations should be paying a person to do.

Visited the Lake Monticello Food Lion, well stocked more so than any other one we've shopped in lately, but they seem to have more staff. It was clean and staff was courteous.

Friendly staff, when lines start to get long they open up more lanes. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes in line. Best times to go is mornings 7-11AM or in the evening 7-10 pm. They have a great variety of things and if they do not have it you can put in a request for them to get it.

Many of the employees are quite friendly and very helpful. The deli in particular has some particularly excellent staff. The store's layout is straightforward and you can find just about everything you need for your weekly groceries, with a few exceptions the store didn't have stocked.

Used to be my first stop. Staff went dowm. Selection dropped over the last 1 - 2 years. I stopped going for regular shopping. Just for quick grab of loaf of bread, 6 pack, salt. But thier produce is really great. Basically it's a great roadside produce quality stand.

My favorite place to get groceries in between Costco runs. Employees are mostly friendly, no problem with returns, more updates and cleaner then other food lions, can get busy but it’s the location fyi their Fried Chicken is the best I can find

Couldn't find anything! Store is undergoing renovation, so no surprise. Hoping that, when the work is complete, it will be a much nicer store. Hoping for wider aisles; my biggest complaint has always been that the bulk of the shelf- and case restocking has always taken place when the store was the busiest.

My first couple of visits here were not the best, I did all I could to avoid this store for several months when we first moved to the area because the staff were not helpful, not friendly, and they never had what I wanted when I went there. My husband convinced me to try again cause he had a different experience so I went again for things I figured they would have but I never did my full grocery shopping here because the prices were high. The produce looked fine I have to give them that. And finally right before we moved, I got a friendly cashier - well thank God that helped me not be paranoid that everyone in that store had issues and hated their job. Okay, so go there if you have to but I'm okay, unfortunately after my experience with this store, I don't even want to go to the one in our new community and we live in a different state!

Small store. I would prefer another grocery store in place of this. Most of the staff are young adults. Some of which have great customer service skills.

This store never has a manager walking around and never really stocked on items. This morning people lined down the isles waiting to check out. Two registers open and 6 employees standing around really it is not that difficult to run a register. I will not be spending money here anymore, this lake monticello needs another large grocery store. Food lion does not deserve the business they don't make the effort and don't care. It seems since they know they are the only close store they make no effort. Pathetic and sad.

A local grocery store serving the Lake Monticello area. Very nice local folks stocking the aisles. During this storm, the store remained very well-stocked. Bottled water continued to be available, batteries, canned goods and bread got cleaned out but restocked quickly. And they staff regularly do something nice for the customers, such as handing out candy on Easter and Halloween, flowers randomly handed out each week, like today. That was nice, after this rainy week, and having no power for 18 hours. I appreciate this locally run store.
