Found this beautiful little gem by accident! Awesome chicken, wonderful variety of desserts, and the friendliest people n service I've seen in a while. Definitely keeping it on my google maps for a place to stop and have a nice little picnic with my wife

Fried chicken was the best! I have not had friend chicken that tasted that good in a long time! Service was great, very friendly. Fried chicken, southern green beans, and Mac and cheese was fantastic! This place is a hidden gem on my maps.Highly recommend

Most of the meat is rotten in the packaging. 9 string beans in plastic wrap for $3. Onions are all sprouted. Floors, shelves, counters and coolers haven't been cleaned since the 80's. I swear there are burns in the tiles from cigarette butts back when you could still smoke in the store. Items on the shelves are dusty they are so old.You will pay double for everything here compared to what it would cost at the Food Lion, no joke absolutely double and sometimes triple.I would love to support local businesses but these people are also just mean and nasty. Very unchristian. Very rude.

So so so disappointed. Everything costs 3 times what it should, which I can understand for a non chain store, if the quality was there. My milk, hummus and half and half, all purchased here on the same day (that all were within correct date), were all sour or had turned bad. The half and half was so improperly stored it was completely curdled up to the top. I went to grab a cheese ball and there was a dead fly stuck to the packaging. I cannot find or I was not given a receipt, so unfortunately I can’t return any of the bad items. No one answers the phone to make them aware of the issue. This grocery store is less than 2 min from my house but I will be driving 20+ from now on to go to food lion or Walmart where stock is clean, correctly stored and rotated.

Great Deli !! Carries BoarsHead, quality fresh homemade salads and the fried chicken is to die for. You've got to try lunch here.. They even have Fresh sandwiches and Salads in cold case. Fresh Bakery Breads and Amish goods as well.Great DMV Select as well. This store has been around since I was a kid and has never been a disappointment.Thank for sll the years of great customer service and quality goods.

EW Thomas is a great little Country grocery store. They have all they basics, plus grain and feed for the farm animals. Best of all, their fried chicken is the absolute best I have ever tasted, pair it with their mac and cheese green beans and it's as good as it gets.

I have used this store many times for small catering orders as well as personal orders. For the past 3 weeks I have tried to place an order for chicken. Last week it was personal but when I called the phone theLine was busy and stayed that way for over 2 hours when I finally gave up. I actually went to the store and saw there was an entire bin of chicken in the warmer. I was told it wasn’t the right pieces and I could not get any. I was not even asked if I wanted the available pieces for an increased price which I would have paid.Today I called at 215 to place an order for lunch for the next day the phone was answered and when I asked for the deli I was told to hold on and was promptly hung up on. When I called back the line was busy and has remained that way. i wanted an order for catering for next day and was not given the opportunity to place one. I guess they are doing so well they don’t need the business. I try to support local business but will not be using this store. It is not good business to not answer your phone or to place it onhold so it rings busy. If you can’t fill orders just say that but don’t put your phone on hold so someone can’t place an order if needed. So sad they never used to be this way

We go here when in the area...great fried chicken and good sides...FYI...they have taylor ham (pork roll) ...had our meal on the picnic tables under the shade tree...very peaceful!

This is a decent local grocery store. I do like their produce and meat sections. Other items sometimes seem over priced. They also have a grill where you can order fried chicken and various sides. They make a lot of their own desserts and potato and pasta salads. They also do rotisserie chickens. The employees are super friendly. The bagger walked my bags out to my car the other day!

This is a unique place in Fluvanna. This is the first place I have seen a DMV office in a small town grocery store.They have a fairly decent produce and meat selection. The deli has a lot of meats and cheese sliced to order. They have a hot table with some good fried chicken. There is a good breakfast selection, with ready made sandwiches, and made to order selections. They also offer decent salads.The grocery items are marked up, but this is a typical thing for non chain stores. Every so often they offer bushels of crabs. The crabs are pricy but seafood tends to be this way.The staff is friendly, and they offer apple pay.

Stopped in for lunch and couldn't have been happier. I ordered a cheeseburger sub. Homemade before you. From the parking lot it looks like any small town grocery store. As you make your way down the isle to the back of the store you realize that its much more. A step back in time, you're greeted with a smile and southern hospitality. Clearly family run and you're treated as such. As I waited for my order I explored a few shelves full of items that had to be the secret ingredients to many grandmother's signature dishes. Certainly things you can't find in the huge chain stores. Whether grocery shopping, getting a bite to eat or getting hot prepared fried chicken for 70 people, I highly recommend E. W. Thomas.

Nice old time local grocery store which also has a DMV office inside. Nice place to get good produce, local produce in season. An excellent butcher shop with prepared chicken that is really good. Prices are competitive with friendly service, a long time family owned business.

Very friendly country grocery that has an amazing butcher shop, deli and wine selection (they have Mead!). You never know what you'll find, their selections are really diverse. Oh, and DMV on-site as well.

Great local grocery store! Amazing breakfast and lunch in the back of the store. The DMV Select location is great too, you just have to get there early (0630-0700) to get a 1-10 number in line for when it opens (0900). At least while all of this COVID stuff is going on.

Family owned. Really great place to shop for groceries that isn't too far from home. They also have specials- one being senior day Wednesdays. They are also friendly and reasonably priced. Best meat in town

Home town friendly neighborhood store in Palmyra. All employees are very friendly and extremely helpful and that's how you bring customers back to your store!! Love those rotisserie chickens and the chicken salad in the deli is delicious, including an aisle that you can get products for $1.00. Plus much more goodies and great deals!!

I love E. W. Thomas! A little old world feel and a smaller store. Everyone talks about their fried chicken, for a good reason. Cheap chicken Thursday you have trouble getting in the place! Their meats are fresh and really great cuts. I buy all of my meat there, even when I have access to Wegman's. They don't have everything, mainly the staples and things required for a simplistic meal. If you're shopping gourmand, or you need a good selection of fresh produce, go somewhere else. But for simple shopping, they are exceptional!

The store itself is grade A fantastic.I went there this morning however for the DMV Select located inside the store. I got there at 9:00am when the DMV opened and was out by 9:15. The key is getting there early.

Wonderful country grocery store!! Very handy to pick up items without having to go to Charlottesville. Their produce is very good, their meats are really good quality. The people that work there are very friendly and helpful.
