This is a great place to get a delicious hot dog with the works!! And the people are so friendly!! It's been in operation for 52 years and still going strong!! I can see why too....its fantastic but it's the service that proves why they have been in business since 1972!! You must grab a hot dog and a shake here!! For real! ...Calvin C.

Nice little place small but they make the most of their space with seating at the bar right behind the grill and about 20 tables. Locally owned since April 1st 1972 this place keeps its small town roots with its friendly staff and small town feel even as the towns of Newport News and Hampton seem to never stop growing around them. I had the Bratwurst with kraut & mustard and fries. Very good bratwurst with a sweetness to it, definitely a beer brat. The kraut was not very sour but was quite tasty and the fries could use a little more time in the frier but were still very enjoyable. Over all a very nice place to grab a bite to eat if you don’t mind spending a little more than normal for your hot dogs to support a local business.Parking: About 30 or so spots but when this place is busy finding a spot can be difficult.

Let me start with the fact that I showed up 15 mind until they closed. I was not expecting to put an order in, but was hoping. Without any hesitation the owners son took my order. I apologized as I know they were ready go an I appreciate them waiting on us. I have been coming to Hot Dog King since my grandparents brought me as little boy.

Ordered a side of fries (which stayed fresh and crunchy the entire 15-30 min we were there eating and talking with each other) along with their foot long hotdog with brown mustard and sauerkraut on top AND a pulled pork bbq sandwich that they pair with their homemade coleslaw and was super satisfied by how hot, fresh, and delicious everything was! The footlongs are automatically cut in half for you too which I thought was awesome.

The Best "Dog-Dive" 🌭 in Newport News! Old-fashioned hot dogs, burgers 🍔 , and shakes 🥤 with a wonderful community feel! Don't expect fine dining, just fast, courteous service with a smile 😊Still the best! And 50 years old on April 1st, no fooling!!! 🤣😏🙄 Gotta check ✔️ out the 5 ft. Hot Dog 🌭 in the corner of the dining room!Great BBQ 🐷 plate, but it doesn't feel right 😕 if you don't get a hot dog, so order both!! 😜Can't go wrong for a quick ⚡️ lunch!!Have to get my "Footlong Fix" at least once a month!! 😋🌭😲Vegetarian options: If you are not into Coleslaw, don't bother!!!Kid-friendliness: Great place for kids!!

What an awesome find! We got two chili dogs, fries and the funnel cake fries and they were not only amazing but also super affordable! We accidentally ordered at the wrong counter making our order to go, but the staff were so nice and let us sit at the counter, even offering plates and water! 10/10 would highly recommend and am definitely coming back soon!

Gus’s Hot Dog King was a recommended place from friends. Very popular locally so I went to see why for myself. My family of four ate for right around $30 and everyone liked the food. The kids are picky eaters so that’s saying something. I loved the onion rings and would order the chili dog again.The people working there were really nice.There is inside seating. Inside was full, but that’s another good sign you chose the right place. There’s outside seating. It’s right off of Jefferson so noise from the traffic may deter you from eating outside.

We've been hearing about this place for a while from family that has eaten here for many years. Today we finally got to try it! Let me say, it did not disappoint. Hotdogs were perfect! Chili was so good. Fries really crispy. My husband loved the banana pudding. We went at lunch time on a Saturday and it was packed. Knew right away that was a good sign. We'll definitely be back.

Been going here as well as the one that used to be in denbigh since I was a kid (40+ years). Same great food, service and hospitality - great constant in our community that I am glad to be able to share with my kids. This is the type of place people reminisce about when they were kids - but thankfully they are still around and I don’t have to just reminisce. Love to stop by for a quick bite while out for a ride.

I've been going to this place for over 15 years. Not one single time have I ever had a bad anything. The food is ALWAYS hot, fresh, and made to order. The staff is absolutely wonderful. There's a lot of great things to say about Gus's, but I don't want to spoil it. Just go and take an empty stomach with you. They will always receive a 5 star rating from me.

I have been going to Hot Dog King since 1977. They have never failed me or my family! Adrian waited our table and she was the best. I will ask for her from now on even if I have to wait! I used to eat here all the time as a kid. I would get foot long chili dogs and I loved them. One bad experience caused my family to stop coming here for about a decade but I recently started going back and it's still great! The cheese fries are great and the chili is amazing on perfectly cooked hot dogs. I would recommend. Coleslaw's kinda weak though.

A Newport News staple for the past 40 years. Affordable prices and quick friendly service. The list of complimentary condiments is vast: mustard, ketchup, brown mustard, chili, onions, grilled onions, relish, sauerkraut, grilled sauerkraut, pickles, and coleslaw. Cheese can be added for 50¢. They also offer hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and NC BBQ. Fries can be ordered plain, with cheese, or with chili & cheese. The only drawback is sodas aren't free refills. I've never had one of the milkshakes because I'm always too full.

Ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a Sprite or whatever they call it now. I was pretty shocked when the total was $16 and some change. I assume the drink was $2 so that's $7 a burger. Bonus the order was wrong and these guys used a HALF a piece of cheese on a $7 burger. I asked for Onions, pickles mayo mustard. When I signed the receipt I tipped $2 cause the lady was sweet and thought to myself these better be some delicious cheeseburgers because I just paid $18 total. I get home and these patties are thin frozen patties you buy at the grocery store and they're undercooked. No onions. And literally half a piece of cheese. I could've gotten better quality on a mcdouble. I called up there just tell em about the quality and he did offer to remake the order but yea I'm not driving back up there. They use bad quality Ingridents and charge high quality prices.

Remind you of a mom and pop that your granddad may have taken you to as a child. Although the hotdogs didn’t have the snack that I want they were decent. The milkshakes were excellent the chili burger was pretty good
