Great location off Rt. 151 in Nellysford. The ice cream is tasty and the environment is neat and clean. There are tables inside and outside. Beautiful view to the mountains.

I really wanted to enjoy a local gem while in the area for 3 months, but while the establishment is very cute and the ice-cream is good, the staff is so so rude, especially the woman. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first trip, but the second trip was almost worst. It feels like you're inconvenciencing them by buying their product 😅 I unfortunately will not be returning.

Amazing ice cream shop-- I suggest you order an ice cream flight - you get 5 scoops of different flavors to try yourself or share. I got a root beer float. Indoor and outdoor seating!

Visited on a chilly, rainy day and there was still a steady flow of people seeking ice cream. Each selected flavor was done well. There were even seasonal flavors. There is a black bear theme, as the name implies. An outdoor seating area is available, along with an indoor seating area. Did not disappoint.

My family and I love this place...best place for icecream by far and prices are very affordable I recommend everyone to stop by here on thier way through our beautiful nelson county!! And for everyone complaining about the staff they are there to do a job not make friends I personally never had a issue with their staff not being friendly not super talkative but never rude!!!

I am not really sure how old‘s place is, however, back in 2021 we saw signs that this may be an ice cream parlor. Until recently (October 2022)we were able to stop by and taste of the delicious options they have here. Very clean and nice place. Plenty of parking, the options are just great. It is a very nice or at least a bit of a break from all the alcohol along 151. I think it may need a bit of more inviting music. It would make the ambience a little better. Overall, I know that I will definitely stop by next time I’m around the area.

We have been waiting for this store to open for a long time, and it has been worth the wait! Adorable space and the ice cream is absolutely delicious. We got the coffee, ginger snap cookie, apple pie, and Snickers ice cream. All absolutely delicious. And, yes, we’re enjoying ice cream in the winter. Highly recommend! Don’t miss out!!! 😁

Tasty ice cream, fresh small batch flavors.The one woman on staff was not very fie fly but everyone else was great. She made a big stink about me wanting certain flavors of the banana split (which is a $$ menu item). I have never received any kind of grief from a small shop getting flavors in a split so it was odd and off-putting. Could have been handled differently. Overall would go back and not order the split and save the confrontation and snotty attitude.

We happened upon this place while we were driving around and we loved it. The staff was extremely friendly and the ice cream was amazing too. We will definitely be going back. Don't expect a huge variety of ice cream, there was about a dozen, but do expect it to be tasty!

Great ice cream, with a rotating menu and friendly staff. A variety of flavors on offer, including both traditional ice cream and sorbet. Milkshakes, sundaes, and ice cream sandwiches are also available.The bear tracks (Reeses) is always a favorite, though the salted caramel is a real winner.Consider a "pup pop" for your four-legged ice cream aficionado!

Google said it closed at 7pm on Friday but they are open until 8pm. I got a scoop of Bear Tracks and a scoop of Mocha Chip, it was delicious! My husband got a sundae and really liked it. The staff was very pleasant.

Great place for a frozen treat! Whether you like ice cream or sorbets, they've got it all!Parking: On-site parking is very close to the storefront. Parking could get tricky as the store gets busy.Kid-friendliness: Plenty of seating indoors and Outdoors. Very accommodating for the entire family!Wheelchair accessibility: Handycap parking spaces on site and store is easily accessible by wheelchair. Hardwood floors inside as well!

Came out to hike from Richmond. Happened to be driving by here and thought, “mountain creamery…. Has to be a home run!“ this place is literally the BEST ice cream shop I’ve been to in a long time. My girlfriend and I tried the bear tracks, spiced apple pie, salted caramel, raspberry cheesecake, cherry sorbet, and coffee between the two of us. Every single one of those was better than the last. Highly recommended. Will exceed expectations!

Family owed ice cream shop. The service was great. They have a really nice seating area outside or you can sit inside. We had been out in 97 degree weather all day, so it really hit the spot. I can definitely recommend the butter pecan waffle cones. I also got to taste the strawberry milkshake which was great! I would definitely add it to your places to visit list if you're out their way.

We need more mom-and-pop places in our country. Black Bear is just that, a mom and pops place that caters to the local community as well as the many visitors to the area. The ice cream is simply amazing. These are the places that really give our nation its flavor - pun unintentional - and are part and parcel for local cultures throughout the U.S.Maybe this seems like an odd review, but we enjoyed this way more than any chain ice cream shop, and the folks working there were extremely friendly, unrushed, and entirely interested in providing wonderful ice cream to us. Highly recommend for the small town feel and amazing ice cream.

Amazing ice cream! I had the Peppermint Chip, which was spectacular! It was just the right amount of Peppermint flavor and the real chocolate chips were a perfect addition.My husband had the Apple Pie and absolutely loved it as well! (He wished it had something for some texture but it was still a 10/10 for him)

The ice cream is amazing, we tried the M+M and Caramel Toffee and both were delicious! Not only that, they had a frozen dog treat called a Pup Pop! Zeke loved it!

Holy cow milk, what a find! Got a bit turned around while sightseeing and went by this place several times. So, eventually had to stop. Glad we did. Very nice staff and great selection of very tasty ice cream. Dog friendly. Great porch with rocking chairs. A must stop.
