I recently stayed at the MacArthur Inn on the recommendation of friends. It was a personal business trip and this hotel is absolutely amazing in its history and the hospitality the hotel staff and hotel owner, Allen Neely, provided. It's a historical hotel named after General Douglas MacArthur and there have been many other celebrities that have stayed there. I occupied the same room as John Wayne once did (cool). The hotel is very quaint, clean, and the rooms are extremely comfortable. As a retired hospital administrator, I know a little something about customers (in my case its patients) and what they expect. The MacArthur Inn is definitely a must stay hotel if you are visiting Narrows VA or passing thru the area.Perhaps the best part for me (an amateur history buff) were my several conversations with Allen and the stories he told me about the history of that part of Virginia and of the hotel itself.Loved the very comfortable bed to sleep and the plush towels (not the thin kind you get at many hotels/motels).Highly recommend you checking out this very unique hotel !!!

I really Like the Mac Arthur Inn! It is large, roomy and clean. It has a feel of historic grandeur as you enter. A warm fire in the hearth gives welcome greetings. There is a very nice lounging area in the main room and out front is a covered, big open porch with rockers and chairs for visiting. The room in which we stayed was spacious and inviting. On Thursday evenings, Live Musicians get together and play for everyone in the main room. I will definitely stay here again! Readily available coffee for visitors would be a nice addition.

Allen and team went out of their way to help me. Arrived in poring rain after falling on mountain above Pearisburg. Allen picked me up at trailhead, served me dinner as everything else in Narrows was closed. Room was adequate, nothing fancy but good hot shower. Next morning staff took me to emergency room to check my head wound and waited to take me to AT trailhead. Their overall hospitality was GREAT!

I lived at the Inn for almost eight months, and the hospitality I received was that of a five star room except for it being as old as it is. A century later and people complain, but we age as well! Nothing stays forever young! But the Inn is chok full of history and ambience!Great place to escape (from the hectic city life!) Plus there are many nature exhibits and hiking trails and just about the opposite of anything connected with CITY!

The location is great for motorcyclists. The roads to the east or west are very nice. The outdoor patio/pavilion area was handy for shooting the breeze. We had a group stay there. They were short staffed, but the woman who was there could really hustle. We had one issue with an overcharge, but they cleared this up. Our group could have avoided this by being more meticulous with who paid what; the large group made it hard to track and their informal attitude was homey, but not ideal for business. Best to call on the phone to try and get a reservation.I'd stay there again if I was in the area.Be aware of a local dude with his dog who is keen on chatting people up and drinking your beer; he's harmless except he does like your beer.

Nice place and friendly staff. Rooms are clean. The hotel looks really beautiful. Every Thursday they have a music evening with locals singing and playing instruments. They also offer great food options on those evenings. There's great hiking within walking distance form the hotel.

The main reasons you will enjoy a stay here are: (1) The history. (2) The hospitality (see other reviews about friendly/helpful owner). (3) The convenience (lots of nearby recreation). (4) The uniqueness. If you are looking for opulent or immaculate rooms, you may be disappointed. However, rates are priced accordingly and are more than reasonable to support this admirable local business.

Excellent front desk staff. Clean bathrooms. Not fancy, but economical. Historical building. Coffee shop across street. No restaurant in walking distance. Not the most comfortable bed I've slept in, but it was clean and cool in the middle of August. Full kitchen upstairs if you wanted to cook your own food. Our room had a mini fridge two dressers, TV, and bed. Hall bath options available. Great for AT hikers.

Outstanding time at an outstanding hotel. It's like a step into the past. There is a jukebox that plays 30s music The rooms are clean and the hotel is well maintained. Book early. The hotel started filling when we got there. This hotel has had celebrities stay there: John Wayne, Michael Landon, Micky Mantle. My wife and I look forward to staying there again the next time we're passing through. Bob

Very quiet and clean hotel. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small and dated but still a good place to rest and relax. The area around the hotel is very small and gives you a feeling of living in a day gone by. Creeks around this area are beautiful.

Catering to Appalachian Trail hikers and other local Trails as well as bed and breakfast guests, this is a older but clean property. The owner is quite a character and very dedicated do what he's doing. If you're a hiker this is definitely a good place to visit.

They are in the process of restoring the Inn so you can see construction projects. The staff was wonderful and the owner is such a special character. I enjoyed the history of the building and am grateful that they are saving it. The feelings make up for the construction.

A.T. Thru-HikersMy wife and I enjoyed a great stay at MacArthur Inn, in Narrows, VA. Owner (Allen) is very helpful & friendly. Staff is friendly & helpful. We stayed for 3 days & did a slackpack day! Shuttles to & from trailheads were timely & cheerful! Then due to an injury, we came back for two more days to heal! Great historic place to stay! Great breakfast offered several days a week. Beautiful old hotel with tons of charm! We felt like we were staying with friends!

We had a very warm welcome when we arrived, had a wonderful meal that was topped off with apple pie a-la-mode or orange juice cake (delicious). After dinner was hours of live music from local musicians. I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through. 7-6-2017TwoShot

Allen was great at the front desk informing us of a couple of cool facts and some lemonade. Paige and the other inn keeper provided us with some great home cooking while listening to the mountain music jam session. I will be back to Narrows & MacArthur Inn the next time I head to Bluefield WV!

The website made this seem charming, clean, and inviting. I really didn't find it to be any of those things. It seems like it was once a spectacular place but has fallen into disarray. There was basically no service after we checked in, no one at night or on my way out in the morning. We were stuck in a room without a smoke detector and that smelled of cigarettes. It was dirty and the lights in the hall weren't working so it was very hard to see to unlock my door. Maybe we were just stuck in a terrible room but I wish I had asked for a nicer one, I didn't really feel comfortable staying there.

Absolutely love the old guy who owns the place. The other staff is great. But what is really awesome about this place is the home cooking and live music every Thursday.

We were put in a room on the second floor. The door was of a sort that keeps out neither noise nor a determined intruder. There was the remnants of a kitchenette without any appliances. The bed had no blanket so for warmth, we slept under the coverlet which was probably unwashed. The mattress was flimsy, there seemed to be people living full time down the hall who came and went, loudly, at all hours of the night. There is no sign for the entrance. This is definitively outside Virginia’s technology corridor but our Covid test came back negative so we will live to make mistakes like that again.

My husband and I enjoyed a great stay here. It's an old, but charming building with newly renovated rooms. A great place to stay if you are visiting the Cascades.

I really enjoy the friendliness of this place and music and food. It is off the beaten a little but worth the time to visit in a quaint little town and atmosphere. The owner is quite the guy and you will not forget meeting him and he is like a friend for life.

I stayed here for most of the year in 2014. Could not ask for a friendlier atmosphere. Beautiful place, liked the town and surrounding area so much that I bought some property and a house across the street.
