I took my cat here yesterday 1/16/24 for his bladder being completely blocked. I called before hand to ask them if they could do a payment plan & the lady who answered told me no so I told her I could not afford it and hung up. She then proceeded to CALL ME back 10 minutes later telling me to bring my kitty in and they will work something out with me. When I get there they check him out for no more than 1 MINUTE. They charged me 60 dollars to touch my cat’s stomach for one minute. The veterinarian then proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay 630-790 dollars for him to stay OVERNIGHT all at once & on the spot. I had no choice but to pack my fur baby up and leave because well before arriving they knew I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH FOR A FULL PAYMENT UPFRONT. Before I left she made me sign a paper saying that if I took him home in his conditions he could’ve died overnight, however he made it through the night. All I can say is this place is money hungry. My kitty has since been taken to another vet & is alright!

Friendly service, sort of pricey for a neuter though. They are non judgmental of pit bull and pit bull mix’s.I felt at ease with my furboi here.☺️ 👍

I absolutely LOVE this place!! The ladies at the front desk (Debra and Rachel) are so friendly and helpful, I'd go back just to talk to them! Dr. Hope and the assistants are also very kind and caring. When I had to put down my pug, "Borg," at 16 years old, I was completely inconsolable. We have no kids, Borg was our child, and the entire practice was there for me to give me hugs and let me cry on their shoulder. It was done in a very professional and loving manner. Thankfully, they also took care of his cremation for me, as I wasn't even able to think clearly!! HUGE THANK YOU for helping me get through that day!!!!Only 1 complaint - they have been short on staff for roughly a year or more now. I believe Dr. Hope is the only vet in the practice and they now have limited hours such as:- closing for lunch- closing on Fridays [Only 8am-6pm Mon-Thur]- No more pick up on Sundays for boardingI truly hope they are able to find other veterinarians (if I were a vet, I would work here in a heartbeat - the staff is just that awesome!). I promise to update easily to a 5 star review if they can just get in some more help! MUCH LOVE!!

I like the office staff's understanding and professionalism, and their flexibility in arranging appointments for me to drop off and pick up my cat when I cannot take off of work. If you take your animals here, do be prepared to wait or drop your animal off and return later. They are always very busy, even if the waiting room is not very full. I appreciate Dr. Hope's taking the time to explain my cat's treatments and prognosis before I take him home after his appointments. The prices they charge are very fair, but since they can't predict what they'll need to do to help your pet, you won't know until you pick up your animal how much the visit will cost.

Dr. Cain is the best vet I’ve ever been to. Also the front desk staff is very nice. The prices were very reasonable for the excellent quality.Update: saw Dr. Hope today and she is also extremely nice and knowledgeable. All the staff members are very sweet and accommodating. I love coming here.

I love it here and so does my fur baby ! Everyone is always very friendly and my Nyx is always excited to visit. I had switched to a vet closer to home, but they were just not as friendly and accommodating as VCA, so we came back. I need an office that lets you come inside, like the good ole days. It's too hot especially in the summer months to have to wait in your vehicle with your pet. Sometimes for up to a hour just for a nail trim. Not here ! that's just one of the many reasons we love VCA 💘

I've had a couple issues arise over my past couple of visits that have finally became too much. I have been very pleased with the Vets and Techs but the office staff needs to be handled. Some of the office staff is very uncaring and just flat out rude, especially one in particular. After my encounter today where I had a surgical appointment for one of my dogs and when I arrived they wasn't even aware of setting the appointment. What gets me is that it was stressed to me last month that I needed to make sure I got the first available surgical date they had to prevent risk of infection spreading and complications and then I show up today and turned away. All of my paperwork had a date and time for the surgical appointment, I even made sure to take the day off work so I could be free to care for my dog once the appointment was over. When I told the lady that I was missing a day of work, she looks at me and shrugs her shoulders and in a very rude way said "well, I don't know what to tell you". At no time did she offer to get the procedure rescheduled or apologize for their incompetence. It wasn't until after I let her know she had upset me by telling her I would be finding a new vet and transferring all of my animals records to a new office did she then start trying to give excuses. She then told me that one of the vets was out due to a death in the family, I sympathize, but apparently this was last week and they knew they would have to cancel some appointments and she said they tried to call some folks to make them aware. At no time did anyone ever try to make contact with me or leave me any messages advising me of this.Again, I have no issues with the vets or techs, but until some changes are made with office staff, especially attitudes and incompetence, I will not be returning. Not only am I out of a days salary over their incompetence, I will now have to shell out money for another vet to diagnose and set up a new surgical appointment.

Took wonderful care of my cat when she needed surgery on her knee cap! Called me when it was over to let me know everything was okay & wrapped her up in a (humorously big) pink cast. Every staff member I saw handle her was super sweet. Her leg healed extremely well, and over a year later, she hasn't had any problems with that leg and runs around the house at lightning speed! Taking her and a new cat here this week for their annual check up with full confidence that they'll be taken care of.

The people are great...friendly, helpful, caring, and concerned. I'm new to the area and Dr. Gries was recommended to me by an animal-loving local personality. He did not disappoint! He was engaged, and very knowledgeable . I really liked his calm demeanor.

I brought my cat to this establishment after adopting him. I got a few recommendations from family members who take their pets here. My first visit, the initial meet & greet was amazing. My second visit, was to put on ‘soft claws,’ was not so great. My appt was 9am. I got there, waited 15 minutes for someone to come get him from my car. I then waited another 40 minutes for the appointment to be over when I was told it would only be 15 minutes. I called and they said “oh we haven’t even seen him. You can go home and we will call you.” Okay, geez thanks for wasting 40 minutes of my morning. 2pm rolls around and I’ve heard nothing. I called and they said “oh yes, he is ready. You can come get it.” So I asked “when was he done? How come no one called me?” The lady answer was “I am not sure when he was done. But you can come now.” I rush to go pick him up. The lady walks out with him in his carrier, yelling “Oreo! Owner of Oreo.” My cat’s name is NOT Oreo, it is Smores. When I told her that, she says “Oh well it’s some type of cookie.” Let me just say this. I am a Physician’s Assistant. If I were to walk into a patients room or speak to a patients parent and say the totally wrong name; then say ‘oh it’s something like that.’ …I wouldn’t have a job. This is a doctor’s office, a patient is a patient, human or pet.A few weeks pass and my cat lost his ‘meow.’ I called and was immediately seen, which was GREAT. My cat needed some medication and came home. However, the next day he stopped eating and didn’t eat for 3 days. When he began to eat again, he started throwing up multiple times. I called to inquire if this was a side effect from the medication or if his condition had worsened..etc. The lady at the front desk said she would speak to the doctor and call me back. A few hours pass, I called again to inform her he was still throwing up – she promised to talk to the doctor right away and call me back. This was OCTOBER 19TH AND I NEVER GOT THAT PHONE CALL BACK. It is now November 20th…Luckily I didn’t wait for that phone call back. Because I’d still be waiting on it. After 2 bad experiences and I realizing I wasn’t getting a call back regarding a sick issue - he got a new vet immediately and is healthy as can be. My family who recommended me are also getting a new vet. If you love your pet, you won’t go here….

We feel right at home here. Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and professional and the doctors knowledgeable. Lovingston vet charged me $400 to send me home with “I don’t know”. Amherst charged me a $100 and found the diagnosis.

I just want to note that if your dogs are ever in an emergency situation, don't waste your time coming here, they wouldn't take my dog in for a check up even though he has been vomiting and isn't able to walk straight! TERRIBLE SERVICE, never coming back here againEdit: I even went as far as emailing the vet doctor and still to this day have not even gotten a reply, it's been months. Utter disappointment in the lack of interest in helping pets.

They are hands down the best vets in the area, everyone there is so caring and compassionate, you can tell they all truly love animals. They took great care of our 2 dogs for many years and thank you to all of the staff there for your care all the way to the end.

I adopted my dog from the Amherst Animal Shelter (who are fantastic) and work with the Amherst Veterinary Hospital to get adopted pets spayed and neutered free of cost to the adoptee. I am giving the hospital itself a 1 star rating instead of a 0 star rating purely for the fact that my dog is alive, and because SO FAR she does not have an infection that I can see from her spay surgery, however I will be taking her to a different, more competent vet tomorrow to be absolutely sure of that. The morning I picked my dog up from the shelter after her surgery, I was informed of 2 things. One being that my dog was spayed while in heat (risky, but fine) & the second being that she was gotten out with a pole that morning due to her being "growly." Now, I am no veterinarian by any means, but I don't believe anyone working in any kind of animal related field should be put off by the nature of an animal due to the field that they are in. Of course she was growly and upset, she was in an unfamiliar place and had just had her insides gutted by some idiot who didn't even know how to do a clean stitch job. Hell, I'd be pretty "growly" as well. The incompetency doesn't stop there. I have hand written on her notes upon release from the vet that there was no health check done that morning before she left (how negligent can you be?!). Even worse, they have written on her release papers that they skipped her evening health check the previous night after she had been spayed that day for the same reason. So I am questioning now whether anyone ever even took a second glance since they carried her out of the exam room after her intial surgery. The fact that I was provided ZERO post op care instructions, with no information whatsoever other than "it went fine" actually comes into play now as she is 4 weeks post op, and has a full set of stitches and the healing process has not progressed as far as it should (resulting in me taking her to a better vet). I was also told pre-surgery that there is a fee that I would have to pay should they find that she was in heat. I was billed for nothing, which raises the question for me, were they in THAT much of a hurry to get this "growly" dog out of there that they apparently, despite years of education, experience, and practice, could not handle? While I was originally thrilled with the fact that the total cost of ($281.50) was waived due to adopting from the Animal Shelter, I now wish that I had just paid the money out of pocket and had her taken to a more attentive, caring staff with a better understanding of animals mentally and physically. It would have taken 5 minutes for them to do a health check, they are LUCKY that she is healthy and fine to date. Those 5 minutes lost could have gone one way or the other, she was in HEAT. She could have had an infection, and even if her incision WAS fine even WITHOUT a health check, the horror of the mental stress that they put my previously abused dog through because they couldn't get their wits together to handle her correctly could have cost her a lot more, including her life. I will NEVER let one of my animals anywhere near this dimwitted animal hospital again. You guys seriously need new kennel attendants/technicians with some brain power, some heart,, and most of all some patience because anyone who truly has a heart for animals knows that patience and understanding are key especially in a new situation for the animal itself. Absolutely awful. I sure wish I could say the same things about mine and my dog's situation as the other review on here. However, in that kind of environment, shouldn't everyone be able to say that the vet "truly cared" about their pet?

My wife and I have been using the Veterinary hospital ever since we adopted from the humane society. They have excellent staff and really care about the animals they work with. I travel from Bedford to this clinic just because they are worth it.

They never diagnosed my cat just charged me 600$ for a week there. Then when she started to seize again I brought her to be put to sleep to end her pain . They said I had to try. Gave her meds that almost killed her and told me just reduce the amount I was giving her. She died 3 weeks later. When I stop paying the last 200$ they got a judgement against me . Butchers

You gave me the dx I needed, but the meds were not necessary. Arthritis partial cause, hurricane caused swelling w barometer drop. Now I know what to look for. Never used meds. Hurricane left swelling did too. Overall staff are great. Would suggest a more holistic approach to drugging an animal or suggest later due to age. He was out playing ball, before during after. I just need to reduce water if swelling. Milk thistle would have done that with no harmful effects like the drugs prescribed. Harley has arthritis and we'll work on those issues with less drugging. But staff is great.

Ive had several dogs over the past 23 years and this would be the only place i ever take my dogs. My most recent experience my dogs were playing and got a little rough and my one dogs eye got knocked out rushed him over and they took wonderful care of her fixed her all up and even though she lost the eye she's perfect.
