My husband and I went here today for brunch to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and enjoyed ourselves. We dined in since it was quite windy, but are looking forward to one day sitting outside on their terrace! The service was great - Tatiana helped us and was so friendly. We both got the avocado toast with home fries and my husband got a side of sausage patties. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! We're excited to come back for dinner in the future :)

Shhhhh don't let anyone know this is here....Awesome fine dining restaurant with divine set menu options. This is a smaller operation with personal service and great food. The tables are well separated and the Buttery itself is an awesome historical building. Highly recommended. Make sure you book.

Stay away! The food here is delicious and the restaurant is extremely cozy and attractive - like something out of a movie scene... a log cabin restaurant in the country...which this is, lol. I loved it. It is small so make reservations. The service was great too. My friend and I had the cinnamon rolls and the eggs benedict. DEEEE-LISH! It was a great bday brunch.

We had brunch here last July and it was so lovely. We had the gazpacho, pork bowl, and eggs benedict and everything was delicious! The atmosphere is so cozy. Really cool to have a restaurant like this in such a tiny, adorable town. Great service, too! We’ve been to their general store several times and my understanding is they share the same kitchen. I’m in love with both. Looking forward to returning for dinner (even though it’s a drive for us since we’re near D.C.)!

The Buttery menu is very limited, what is advertised on line may or may not actually be what is available. Food is generally very good but overpriced. Service today was rather poor. Waitress had to continually return to kitchen to get answers to simple questions that she should know because the place is so small and the menu so limited. Environment of restaurant (cabin) is cute, but there's no heat. The portable propane heater set up inside the restaurant to heat the entire place didn't work. Plug in heater was brought in but did little to provide heat. Door to porch, where other guests ate, continued to swing open letting in more cold. The heating situation is very likely a codes violation on top of making high paying guests very uncomfortable as we all sat bundled up, coats on. Refills of hot water and coffee were not offered & when asked for were slow in coming. It was 24 degrees outside and probably 45 degrees inside. Restored building or not, today's experience is inexcusable.Bathrooms are located outside in a separate building, next to the kitchen. The good news is the bathroom heaters are high tec and worked, so you could warm up, but also hear the conversations, sneezing & coughing in the kitchen. The overall experience we had today was extremely poor. Ridiculously so, and quite obvious. Yet, there were no apologies, no amends. If a manager was on site, they were out of sight. In the Locke Store, it was crowded, overpriced and the deli counter chic was both rude and unattentive.Perhaps there's new ownership or management? The reputation of both venues here is well known, but something clearly is not working here. Previous experience was better. Not sure we will return, nor be able to recommend, as no one wants to experience this again, especially on a special occasion.

What a great experience! Enjoyed dinner here with another couple. Great atmosphere inside, excellent service and delicious food and drinks. The watermelon salad was especially good and the lamb red entree and brownie with mint ice cream were outstanding. Will definitely be back!

The Buttery at Locke Store is a new (to us) restaurant in rural Millwood. On arrival there is plentiful parking outside the restaurant and a warm welcome awaiting inside from the friendly staff. The food I would describe as ‘Modern American’ using primarily local products and suppliers. The chef presents dishes of simplicity and great flavor. We started with a delicious buttery squash soup and vegetable tempura. For mains we enjoyed the gnocchi of the day which was served with shorts ribs and local mushrooms. DW loved the flatbread of the day which was pulled pork. The desserts continued the excellence of the kitchen with a lemon curd pavlova and a flourless chocolate cake. All together a fantastic experience . We hope to return soon.

Went for brunch, and had a 5star experience: great service, fantastic food and nice atmosphere. There was plenty of space between tables, and it felt very covid-safe; staff all wore good masks. The eggs florentine was perfectly executed- even the english muffin was remarkable! Beautiful food and presentation. You should go here.

When we moved to Lake Frederick, we were so happy to find such a great restaurant so close to home! I am a vegetarian, and the menu had two great choices. I chose the Summer Puttanesca, which was by far the best meal I have ever had. I only wish I had taken a picture of it! My husband had the Szechuan Pepper Seared Albacore, which was also excellent. We look forward to seeing what's on the October menu. The service was excellent too!

Wonderful time with 8 friends in a private room. They helped a few of us with nice vegetarian substitutes. Drinks were great and service excellent

Amazing food and service. I was pleasantly surprised. We sat outside on the large rear patio, which is very private . This is a hidden gem and was packed when we were there for a Sunday brunch!Vegetarian options: Our waiter seemed open to altering menu options to accommodate one person's dietary requirements. Dietary restrictions: Lots of meatless options on the menu. Parking: Parking is very limited since this little restaurant is located on a country road. There is only a horizontal strip of spaces in front of the building. Other than that, cars lined the road .. even winding around the corner. However, this parking situation is worth the visit.. because along with the great food you can visit the funky shops surrounding the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: The patio was definitely kid and pet friendly. Management even brought a bowl of cold water for our dogs. However, we ate on the patio and I cannot speak for the interior of the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: I didn't see any wheelchair access to be honest. The front of the building has a set of large steps. The back patio has a gate that seemed quite narrow to me when I entered, but it may very well accommodate a wheelchair. I would just call the restaurant and ask that question. It would be worth a call not to miss the food!

Proper review should be 4.5. Food was excellent drinks great. Appetizers were fantastic, entres were very tasty. But a mite scant. Deserts were delicious. Overall, very fine dining. Entre for some of us were great, but some were smaller, and some were a protein in sauce. Good tasting, but they needed something more to make them not an appetizer. We would definitely go back again.

What a perfectly delightful meal. The ambiance in front of the rustic fireplace set the tone for the subsequent 3 courses. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and each bite was bursting with flavor. The drinks were fabulous and so was the bread. I wish I had taken pictures of each dish but a greedily dug in. Will definitely return.

This unique little place has a rotating/changing menu of wonderful dishes. Tonight I had a pork chop, and my wife had the sea bass. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. If the quality those two dishes are an indication of the other offerings, then we certainly will be back! The original building is a beautifully restored log cabin style house from the 1800s (I think). This provides a wonderful and warm atmosphere unique that would be hard to replicate in a more modern building. The service was outstanding! They have a limited amount of tables so be sure to call in a reservation. Highly recommend!

I hosted a bridal shower here for a friend and it was perfect. Shauna and the other events staff at The Buttery were so helpful and design-focused, even providing gorgeous custom menus for our event. The servers were incredibly attentive and the food was spectacular. Would highly suggest hosting a small gathering here! We’re from out of town, but I will go out of my way to come back to eat here!

real gem of a place! we were visiting the area for a long weekend and needed a place to eat for night 1, as we had reservations at l 'auberge Provencal for night 2. Not going to lie. Wish we had come back here for the second night. Every course we had was fantastic. Price was very reasonable for what we got, and it blew night 2 out of the water which was 3x the cost.

Magical Dining Experience! We celebrated my daughter's 30th Birthday in the patio area. The people at The Buttery could not have been more helpful. They worked with me for a set up to decorate which I so much appreciated. The food was out of this world and the service the best. My only reservation to not recommending this restaurant is that it will get so popular once people realize this hidden gem is in the most adorable town ever that I'll never get a reservation! We will be there many many more times. Thanks to everyone at the Buttery. Donna

Lovely atmosphere, great service and excellent dinner. There were a nice range of options available for each course (chorizo and polenta with harissa main course was delicious and summer pavlova was perfect). Fun cocktails and unexpected non alcoholic beverages.

The Buttery is a one-of-a-kind restaurant tucked away in the backwoods of Virginia. Located in the quaint town of Millwood, the Buttery offered me everything and more! Coming from DC i miss the food scene but this will be my go-to from now on. The staff is SUPERB. Shout out to my server Gabriel who is the best! All the support staff is lovely and compliments to chef on an amazing menu. The grilled Flank Steak was spicy but not too crazy. The fried green tomatoes stole the show. Those carmelized onions were to die for. 10/10 recommend. Go here. Eat well. Enjoy. Thanks to the BUTTERY!!!

My husband and I have done the dinner menu on two different menus now and have loved it! I do agree with others that there is some size issue. I’m aware this is supposed to be upscale but girl’s also gotta eat. The menu has just enough options that it should suit most palates. The pink peppercorn ice cream is downright a gift from God. I hope they’ll maybe start to make it often and package it to take home.

An absolute gem! Food = incredible, flavor-packed & highly creative, seasonal and always-changing menus featuring hyper-local ingredients. Service = Kind, attentive, perfectly-paced, and truly accommodating no matter how large or small your party. Atmosphere = Max coziness with an outdoor garden patio that is simply magical with twinkle lights, blooming dogwood trees and fantastic music playlist ~ Overall, so very impressed with this restaurant, my husband and I cannot wait to come back!

So what happened tonight? We came in with a reservation made months in advance for a very special dinner. Then waited for an hour and a half for food… of any kind. The drinks came out slowly. Nice servers, but what a disappointment.

Tried to go here after a wedding for brunch on Sunday. Upon arrival, we were asked if we had reservations, & no we did not. About 60% of restaurant was EMPTY BUT was told they didn't have any tables available for an hour. Really?!?! What about all the empty tables? The guy host was very rude & unapologetic.

FULL DISCLOSURE IVE NEVER EATEN HERE!! But God bless this place and their staff - I was driving and was at a point where I knew there wouldn’t be many places to stop when my cat had an accident. I saw that this restaurant happened to be open and asked if they could give me some cleaning supplies and they were so generous! One of the waitresses gave me everything I needed and even let me keep a rag. I’ll have to come back and eat here someday to express my eternal gratitude!
