Over the passed several years I have called numerous times without getting a return call back. I used to donate 20 years ago money, pallets of canned food and bags of quality kibbles. I phone when they needed to place because of overcrowding and offered to take in seniors, even with medical conditions. These poor creatures are used for tear- jerking donation drives and fundraisers. They are making it needlessly complicated to try to get an appointment and when I donated a Kuranda bed (that was wrong size and I was told by the company to donate it) they treated me like a trespasser, instead of a Thank you or letting me speak to a manager. Now I doubt that my donations ever made it to the kennels!

We adopted a wonderful little dog to our family. The people there are very kind, and helpful. If you get the opportunity, please donate either old gently used toys and blankets.

Sandy at Southside SPCA is amazing! She has helped me get many stray animals fixed cats and dogs.Recently, I rescued a cat that had a terrible pelvic injury. She had to go to the vet on two separate occasions, and they helped me cover the costs as well as took her in after she was cleared. I know they will make sure she is well taken care of and find a good home.😊I HIGHLY recommended this shelter. They truly care about the animals!

No wonder there is a flood of kittens from these places. They don't seem to want to give them good homes. Our application was PERFECT, yet you hear nothing from them. Save your time and disappointment, go to the Richmond SPCA, where you can adopt then and there.😁

Very friendly staff. Got my cat, Jasper, there and he got sick and SPCA helped with the bill because we couldn’t afford it as a college student. I also got a good package deal when I got my kitty. They take great care of there pets too in the store. Very clean compared to most shelters.

I put in an application for a 6 month old kitten that was at petsmart in Midlothian and had questions about her sister that was in the same cage. Sent them an email. No response. Called them multiple times during business hours and no answer. Left message and no response. It’s very frustrating. Today I stopped by petsmart to see if there was a point of contact for them other than what I was trying and that had no information. Saw that the kittens were no longer there. And was told they probably were adopted. Something that should be easy turned into the most complicated experience ever. I’m still hoping to hear from them. I won’t be going through petsmart again for an adoption. Just seems like a lost cause.

I applied to adopt a dog a couple of months ago. After waiting a few days, I emailed and called, leaving a voice mail. I never received a response to any of my attempts. We have had 3 rescue dogs that all lived long, happy lives (2 were over 14) and the third is still alive at 16. If there was a problem with our application, a response would have been the professional thing to do.

After applying for a dog I got one response from the adoption counselor, but that's all. I called my vet to see if they ever contacted them, and they didn't. So, when I see they aren't getting back to me, I presume someone else got that dog. But they should have told me.

After doing like 15 applications all over the place to rescue. Southside spca received my application last night, called me this morning, reviewed details, approved my husband and I. Puppy is being neutered and we can bring him home soon. So nice and easy to work with. I did not experience the waiting game with them! I’m super excited!

I called about a dog posted on Pet-finder and sent a message through that app (nothing), I filled out an application on their website (nothing), I even left a message on their office phone which said I would get a call back within twenty-four hours. NOTHING... if they treat their dogs like they do individuals. That makes me sad. Terrible! from what I can see. To bad, we really had a strong interest.

The volunteers and employees of the Southside SPCA are passionate about saving dogs and cats, and then finding them loving homes. They do AMAZING things with limited funding. They have also helped lower the pet euthanasia rate for Southside SPCA!

Ok i am technology challenged so i hope half of this reveiw doesnt show up nine times but i dont care. How dare any one say that sandy "didnt care" about any animal. If you havent worked rescue, YOU DONT KNOW! I moved to this area from a big city nearly 30yrs ago & was shocked at the lack of animal protection. SSspca at the time was serving either 7 or 9 counties!! Sorry dont remember exactly but either way, it was astronomical. And guess who was there then? You guessed it, sandy. She doesnt have time to sugar coat reality or hold your hand cos you found an injured animal. She is not there to bow to the whiney needs of the people of the community (& surrounding ). She serves the helpless, voiceless animals of the community. Probably many more yrs than the 30 i am aware of. In my journey w/ animal rescue, every single worker i have ever known (even including myself) has eventually backed out from the stress of it. Everyone, that is, except sandy. So if you really want to help the animal abuse situation in your community, dont drop it on someone whos already carrying the weight of the world! Step up, and ask "how can i help?" even if its just for one animal. And please, dont ever have the nerve to down sandy because she gave an honest, non sugarcoated answer in this very real world sadly inundated with animal neglect and abuse.

This place is amazing!! Please don't listen to Stephanie Jeter, the spca doesn't have a lot of money, or room, and they want the animals to have the care they need. Sandy cares very dearly about each and every animal.

I tried to take a cat seriously injured and Sandy turned me away. Told me she had already promised a lady 3 spots at the shelter and would not take the cat I had. She was very rude and didn't care about the animal I had. This place should be closed and she should not be taking care of any animals.
