My parents love going to The White Dog Bistro! I decided to get a gift certificate for them for a birthday, but I am not local. I called and Amanda made everything so easy. She took my payment information over the phone and then offered to hand deliver the gift since they are local!!! She texted me a picture of the gift card and handled everything. This kind of customer service is just unheard of these days. I highly recommend this establishment and these business owners. What a rare find!

This place was amazing. The atmosphere was relaxed yet upscale. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic and did not disappoint. I'm a bit of a picky eater but everything from the honey lavender butter to the octopus salad was delicious. Would definitely go again and highly recommend.

Had what I think was the best meal of my life last night. Not trying to be overly dramatic, but it was amazing. Had the Shrimp and Cod Mornay. Fish was perfect, shrimp was cooked just right and proportioned just right. The three cheese bechamel was rich without overwhelming the cod.The Hendricks Martini was spot on... And more reasonably priced than most upscale restaurants.We come here every time we visit Mathews County and the bay, which is only a couple times a year probably. We usually kick off the trip with White dog because we know it will be a great start to the weekend and the trend continued with this visit.

I can't say enough about White Dog Bistro. I am a wedding planner and we had my sister's wedding reception there as it was a small amount of people. From my original conversation with Walter I knew it was going to be an awesome night. I never expected the service to be as top notch as it was. Amanda was overly communicative helping ensure everything from the time we arrived until we left was taken care of. We had a couple of people who didn't order appetizers and at the last minute we had to add them on and Amanda and team made it appear so effortlessly to have them added. Not once during our night did they ever seemed it was frustrating or a challenge for them.Now let's talk about the amazing menu or food they provided. Not one of our guests said anything but raving reviews of how good the food was from apps to Salads and entree. The portions are big so you definitely won't go home hungry. So when you are looking for your next evening out or special gathering contact White Dog Bistro as you want be disappointed. Top notch service and food for sure! Thank you White Dog for all you did to help my sister and husband have an incredible night!

Walter and White Dog Bistro catered our wedding. They were flexible and willing to work with us within our budget. Walter curated a wedding meal that was perfect for us and met our vision perfectly! The food was delicious and the service was just amazing! We couldn't have been happier with our decision to have White Dog Bistro cater for us. Especially after hearing all the compliments our guest had for the food and service. Chef Walter was just wonderful and was fast with communication and his execution was better than we could have imagined.

Dear Amanda, First I want to tell you how much we enjoyed the food last night at the Bistro. What is even more amazing is what you did in delivering my check card to the house after I left it at the restaurant. You went far above the call of duty snd I want to thank you for what you did. We retired here from the Shenandoah Valley after owning a weekend house for years. I know of no other business that we have dealt with that would have done what you guys did and I am most appreciative. Thanks again and you and your husband have a customer for life.

Phenomenal food and wait staff. Appetizers were fast and delicious, and entrees were beyond amazing. Will be returning for the low county skillet specifically, you will not be disappointed. Owner, hostess, waitress were all friendly, personable and accommodating to my family and small child. 10/10 recommend

Best food and service in Mathews county, no question; might be best in region. Ate escargot, chowder, hush puppies, low country skillet, and clams with linguine. Everything was exquisite. Cocktails were also fantastic. WDB is good enough for a destination meal.

This was our second trip to the White Dog. Even though it's an hour drive, our first visit was so good that we just had to go back. This time, not so much. It started out 'odd' in that there was no one at the front of the house when we entered - a good 10 minutes later someone showed up - no apology - and seated us. The waitress greeted us quickly and we order a bottle of wine. A full 30 minutes later the bottle arrived. Next came the appetizer - one was perfect while the other was luke warm. Then the entree - again, one was hot and perfect - the other luke warm.Some suggestions:1 - It shouldn't take 30 minutes to put a bottle of wine in a chiller and take it to a table. Your bartender was overwhelmed - why make her bring a bottle out? The waitress should be able to serve this.2 - Clearly the kitchen was ahead of the service - thus the temperature irregularities in the meal. If you are short of staff - don't seat guest you can't serve.Anyhow - we won't be returning. Driving an hour and paying a premium price for this does not make sense given our experience.

This restaurant is quite quaint. The meal was exquisitely prepared and very savory. The waitstaff was very attentive and was quick to attend to our requests. A little disappointed with coffee prices. Each cup was a separately charged item. With entres around $30, I don't feel nickel and dimeing for coffee was appropriate. I highly recommend the hot and gooey pecan pie served with ice cream. The White Dog deserves it reputation of fine food and friendly staff.

The White Dog is a wonderful restaurant that could hold its own in any metropolitan city. The staff is professional and knowledgeable. The restaurant atmosphere is elegant and comfortable, diners feel at home. The chef is so creative, all of the menu offers are visually appealing and delicious. The wine list and cocktails are very affordable. My granddaughter especially enjoys the mocktail fish bowl. Mathews is very fortunate to have a restaurant of this quality.

We went last night for Christmas Eve dinner. This is probably the 3rd or 4 the time we have done so. Each and every time, this place gets better. Last night was no exception. All of us had an exceptional meal last night. Myself, I had their low country skillet. It was loaded with shrimp, scallops, crawfish tails sausage and grits. This is the first meal in sometime that I would describe as phenomenal. I mean, I could have eaten another 3 or 4 plates of it if I wasn't so full from the huge portion they give you. Each and every component of the dish was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Taken as a whole, it was amazing. The grits were the best I've had since John Lawrence was the head chef at the Tides Inn and that was around 15 years ago and John was a genius. If I could afford to go back for lunch every day this coming week of vacation, I would be there. Everyone else at our table was equally impressed with their dishes as well. The service was also excellent. The young lady who waited on us was very kind, patient and attentive. The table sitting behind us was also very kind and engaging as we sat and spoke with them after eating. 7/5 would most definitely recommend! And sorry for any egregious spelling errors. My screen is cracked and it's hard for me to see!

We have eaten at the WDB several times over the past 4 years and always found it to be enjoyable and a good value. Great menu; generous portions that are properly prepared; excellent service; and charming atmosphere -- all combine to make this one of the very best restaurants in the Northern Neck. Looking forward to returning soon!
