No place has probably given me more happiness than LHS because they gave me my dog pepper. Everyone was so kind throughout the adoption process and I knew as soon as I saw her I had to adopt her and they made it happen. I love organizations like this and will gladly support them however I can. Anyone who supports and nurses sick pets back to health deserves all the help they can get.

I didn't know they had animal shelters this nice. The staff/volunteers are incredible. When I was there I did have to wait a little while, which was no problem at all because there were so many animals to pet and look at in the meantime. In exchange for a longer wait, I had the most attentive volunteer helping me. I was not rushed and felt like I had her full and undivided attention. They have a super cool program where you can take a dog for the day. Awesome for the dogs who have been there awhile, but also for anyone who wants to spend time with a dog for a little bit. Great advertisement to get them adopted! Very clean environment.

Much better than the Amherst humane society. Super nice. Helped us adopt our dog. Our dog did have kennel cough. We notified the humane society within the 10 days and they are treating him. They gave us meds from their vet there and he's recovering great. They do follow through with their adoption to make sure you are happy and you have a healthy pet.

Lots of cat rooms to sit and socialize with the cats. The outside trails were nice. I did 1.1 miles of the trails. There were a few loops to choose from. Very nice facility. Kind workers, although they were running around so fast I didn't want to bother anyone and I was not sure what the rules were. The cats seemed ok that I didn't know any rules. I would like to add one more thing- Cat.

This place houses a lot of different animals. From dogs to cats, to bunnies and rats. If you're looking for a companion, you should check out this center first. All the fur babies need good homes. I marked this review as a three star because this facility lacks cleanliness. I'd attribute it to staffing issues; but considering some of the animals are overfed, I'd also say the volunteers need more adequate training too. This animals shelter is definitely worth a peruse.

Wonderful place to adopt animals. This actually where got my cat pictured in my profile picture. However that is besides the point. We found a Dog out of lynchburg jurisdiction in Campbell County. Which I know by law we have to take them to the required place apparently ( in the correct jurisdiction). I know someone who works at humane Society and she said that people bring in animals all the time and lie about it like where are they found the animal .Tried to take the dog to Lynchburg because I knew they were a no kill. The girl in charge of lost pets told me if I really wanted to get this dog help that I would go to Campbell county animal control. Which is funny because they are A KILL Shelter. I get Lynchburg is crowded and full but don’t tell me I’ll get more help at a kill shelter.

We got our sweet Dolly from here. They were very informative and helpful. They have so many dogs, cats and other critters that need a good home. They do amazing programs, we got our sweet girl basically free (we paid for the microchip) because she was sponsored by another couple. We loved that idea and will probably be sponsoring another pooch and passing on the good karma. Go find your next best friend!

I needed to surrender my puppy because I'm not able to care for him right now health reasons. I emailed and called repeatedly to no avail. I even attempted to list him with the rehoming program Lynchburg Humane society has. I ended up taking the animal to the shelter and they refused to take him! Suggested I take the animal to Campbell county because he was originally found abandoned there. I live in Lynchburg and have had the dog here for several weeks. Then they said they have a parvo outbreak and can't take puppies. Seriously tell people that on one of your many social media forums. It's a heart wrenching decision to have to make and then have to go thru this

A lovely and welcoming shelter. Thank you for all that you do! I wish more places allowed people to place a hold on the animals. It's so helpful for people coming from out of town.

WONDERFUL PLACE! I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee their mission and my username is actually a combination of the two dogs, I have adopted from LHS. Bubba is a Walker Hound and man he was such a mess when we first met, he would literally bark for 12 hours straight and he would chew up chairs, tables, beds, sofas....everything. But as the years have gone by, I have really come to love him and understand him. Walker hounds are so special! He is sooooo smart and super stubborn. Lila is a Pyrenees and lab mix, I got her as a very small baby from LHS. As an adult it took her a long time to look me in the eyes but she too has come around. I love them both very much. I have had 4 dogs and all dogs have been some form of rescue dogs and they have all been extremely loving and special. LHS is a world class organization! I highly recommend them to anyone who is ready to take care of a dog...it can be pretty intense!

I took my dog to be cremated here. After three weeks I returned to pick her up only to be told that she was still in the freezer! Basically stock piling dog cause the person was on holiday. This has devastated me that my dog has just been sitting in a freezer for 3 weeks. No regard for my baby💔

Some of the staff is much more help. Then others and a lot of them are just there on their phones and not really doing the job.

So many wonderful animals here! I wish I could've taken them all with me back to NY. Please donate to this wonderful place. If you cannot donate money then cat food and dog food will always be welcomed. They are so caring and truly love these animals especially one young woman in particular, Erin. She has a heart of gold and gives so much of herself to each of these list little souls.

I went to visit a bunny and was thrilled to hear that they were going to have him/her neutered before being adopted. He/she was in a nice size cage with lots of hay, pellets and water. Very pleased that they are caring for the small pets, too!

In honor of black cat appreciation day I would like to show the cat I adopted from Lynchburg in March that the worker tried multiple times to dissuade me from getting warning me that she will never be a friendly cat, hates people, and will never be the companion animal I was searching for. Well these photos are after I had her 2 months. Yes it was hard to gain her trust but she was only 10mo when I got her and she'd been written off as a "working cat". Do better. Also she was almost $200 for a cat you considered untamable. I understand the costs of keeping cats quite well but it's like you don't even want your cats adopted at that price. Franklin Co humane society for example is less than a 1/3 of your adoption price and they actively work to socialize all their animals not write them off. As I said do better.

The staff is professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The facility itself is definitely new and clean and it's very clear that this place is designed to give a healthy temporary home to both cats and dogs. There are several rooms and areas that you can use to get to know your potential pet, and the staff will gladly work with you to find your perfect pet.

I had my sweet boy cremated here about 6 years ago. They were kind and considerate. These days, I visit to pet kitties and that is enjoyable. I haven’t had much interaction with anyone there. The facility is decent.

We went to meet a dog who was in foster care at the time. We had some pretty major headwinds flying out there, so we were later than planned. The foster had already left by the time we arrived, but the staff were able to call her and she turned back around so we could meet him. The facility was very clean, well kept and organized. There were several play and meet areas where you could go in and meet so many loving pets that are looking for their forever homes. We are looking forward to coming back with our dog to meet the one we had come to visit, and see how they get along, and hopefully we can adopt him at that point. ♥️

Everyone there was very helpful in the adoption of our new kitten. Her name was Vertebrae but is now Diva. This is my second kitten adoption. Best place for adopting animals. They take such good care of all of the animals. It is sad that many will not be adopted because of their age or possibly disposition. All animals deserve a good home. I have anxiety so bad that I take medication for it. But the purr of a kitten or cat is very soothing. It really helps a lot with the anxiety.
