We purchased candy here for no special reason. It's fun for kids to see so much candy in one place. I didn't know pixie sticks expire but ours were. Mary is rude and should pass on the customer service to younger, more open generations. The cupcakes are average. No cupcake wars won there. Jimmies- not sprinkles. If you don't know the difference, don't ask for sprinkles bc you'll get sprinkled sugar. The chocolates are good but over priced. I can't help but wonder how old they actually are. It's a neat place but stuck in a time warp. I'd rather buy candy and pies at cracker barrel.

Very cool place. I was driving to Colonial Beach when I passed it and had to stop by on my way back. I got some goodies for myself and a friend. Really loved the mint cookies bark I got. So good! The girl in the shop when I was there (Acadia I think was her name) was really nice and offered a sample of their famous chocolate covered potato chip. It was cetainly unique, but not to my taste. If you want something sweet, you're sure to find something good here.

Best Chocolate Covered Potato Chips EVERRRR!!! They are SO addicting!!!! I live 300 miles away now but every time I come back home to visit I have to stop by and get some. They have everything you could think of here!!! Plus it’s a super cute little store and all of the employees are super friendly 😊

What an amazing candy story! If you can dream it, they have a chocolate mold for it. Almost everything is made in-house. The fudge is perfect, my family finished it off within minutes.

If you don't want a custom cake, the chocolate covered potato chips are a staple. I am a KG native and this place always hits when I have a sweet craving. Mary is very kind and her cakes and icing are supreme (sometimes a bit overly sweet) but nonetheless A+. Everything is homemade, places like this don't exist anymore. The atmosphere is great and colorful, love the murals - super cute.

I am a native of King George. I recently moved away to Richmond but am getting married in October. I was excited about getting our wedding cake from Mary's Cakery because I grew up here in KG and had cakes from there at almost every function I went to for as long as I could remember.Unfortunately, my fiancee and I decided to get our cake from elsewhere because or brief "consultation" with Mary herself did not instill too much confidence.We came in to ask how far in advance we could order our cake. It was early March and our wedding is in October. We were told by the very nice young lady at the counter that we could have it done then. She then went to go speak with Mary herself who then came to the counter and was clearly flustered. Mary remarked that it was strange that we wanted to order so far in advance as most of the time she only has a few days notice. When I mentioned that it was for a wedding and that's why we were ordering so far in advance, she looked at me as if I had three heads.We then went into some of the details about what we wanted. We wanted a simple, single-tier, 9 inch round cake. Red velvet with white cream cheese frosting and some very simple floral designs on the sides. Think of a regular birthday-style cake. We emphasized that we did not want anything too elaborate. We really just wanted a wedding cake just for tradition's sake.Mary seemed confused by what we meant by "floral" designs. Admittedly, my fiancee and I didn't have any particular type of design in mind and we said as much. We had figured that she might have a portfolio or something on hand to showcase some of the designs she has done before. This was standard in every bakery we had been to before. We figured Mary would help us decide upon a design as that is how MOST consultations for any kind of bespoke products or services go.I guess she must have thought messing up a wedding cake would be very, very bad and that lots of couples were liable to be difficult as they wanted everything to be perfect for their special day. My fiancee and I emphasized over and over that we would be happy with anything she felt would be appropriate, but she ended up telling us to email her pictures of what we wanted and then she would tell us if we could do it or not.We ended up ordering from Publix instead, which was far more straightforward and, would you believe it: the attendant there gave us a catalog with premade designs and also helped us decide on any modifications we would like.I am very torn because I STILL love this place. I have so many good memories of it from growing up, but based on my recent interaction, when it comes to cakes, Mary might be having a hard time keeping up with the demand.That being said: the candy selection is great! They have them stocked in old candy barrels as is custom and the fudge is to DIE for. We may end up getting some confections from the candy kitchen as wedding favors anyway.As a side note: I felt a bit overwhelmed being followed by the (seemingly very young) employees throughout the store while they offered me sample after sample. I am totally okay with being offered samples, but when I have to say at least FOUR times that I don't want a sample and I am just browsing, you really, really ought to let your customers breathe. Offer once or twice but after that, leave your customers alone to browse, please!In short, this is a cute little mom and pop shop that has been around my hometown for as long as I can remember. The products they offer are truly amazing and unlike anywhere else, however the customer service is a tad bit lacking and I can definitely tell that Mary might be biting off a bit more than she can chew when it comes to cakes orders.Definitely drop in for some candy, but if you want a cake, be very, very specific about what you want or the process might be a exasperating. Despite everything, I really do still love this place.

Mary's always has what you're looking for. And if they don't, they'll find it! I have been coming to Mary's for about a year, most recently to order a black forest cake with mermaid sprinkles! We are never disappointed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, Mary (the owner) is approachable, the parking lot is easy to get in and out of, and they have sugar free candy options! What more could you want from a candy store? Thank you Mary (and staff) for all your hard work!

I placed an order for custom cupcakes that were deliciously fluffy and with a rich frosting that wasn't overly sugary. Friendly staff and great selection of chocolates from quirky to finer quality. Worth a visit if you're passing by on the way down the Northern Neck (VA).

Such an amazing little spot. The candies are fantastic and they have quite a selection. The fudge and various truffles are great. The cakes with buttercream frosting are simply the best birthday cakes ever. My family has been going here for over 20 years now. I can't recommend them enough!

We kept hearing the radio station talk about this place, and have been wanting to go for a while. It is a hike from Fairfax/Woodbridge, but we went to the Illuminate light show near Kings Dominion, and were in the area. It was definitely an unassuming place from the outside. When you first walk in you see massive amounts of wrapped chocolates. I thought great, another candy store that sells you well known candy for quadruple the price of a gas station or grocery store. That was definitely not the case. All of the chocolates are handmade there and packaged. The staff were extremely helpful, and friendly. They took a lot of time showing us all of our options. They let us sample as much fudge, and candy in the case as we wanted. I love good fudge, but do not like probably 90% of the fudge I try. I threw away about $40 of candy and fudge from the different candy/fudge places at the beach not long ago. This fudge was amazing! It was super creamy, and just perfect. The candy behind the case was delicious. It was so good that when I tried a piece in the car, I went back in to get more. The chocolate and filling melts in your mouth. Most chocolate like this everywhere else is crumbly and chalky, with fillings that are hard and congealed. Their packaged candy was also amazing. We also tried the cupcakes, and they were simple but delicious. The peanut butter cups, vanilla buttercream truffles, toffee, and turtle fudge were my favorites. I can't recommend this place enough. I will definitely drive from NOVA, just to come back to this place.

This place is like walking into Willy Wonka's store on a subdued scale (no crazy noises and oompaloompas.) The fudge is utterly amazing. The selection of chocolates is superb. The staff are so amazing, they make the experience even more fantastic. Yes they have cookies and cakes too. Amazing little collectibles as well. I highly recommend. If you're not local, make the trip, you won't be disappointed.

Very cute candy store. They have a wide variety of candies and chocolates. I loved the bulk section, which has jelly beans, and much more. If you let them know you're visiting for the first time, the staff will be happy to let you sample a few items. They even have a selection of retro candies as well as salt water taffy and fudge.

Great service. Is my anniversary, and they were extremely helpful and patient while i chose a 36 piece box "assortment of chocolates". Even had a happy anniversary chocolate bar and cards as well. Turned into a one stop shop for a gift anyone can enjoy.

The staff is pushy. When you refuse their help and express displeasure at being asked the same thing multiple times they get snarky and rude while also whispering about you behind your back. The chocolates and fudge are decent. The cakes taste like box mix cakes. If you want delicious cakes and pies go to Paul's in Fredericksburg instead. The service there is polite, not pushy, and their creations taste great.

I went to Mary's for the first time on 1/29/19 to get a cake for my mothers birthday. So glad I was referred to Marys. I was not disappointed at all. The hospitality of the staff was amazing. The cake and candies was beyond delicious! I drove 45 minutes to get to the bakery and I will do it again real soon.

Reasonable prices and great service. Went in for the first time and got lots of tastings of many different candy. (Fudge, chocolate, even cake!) They seem to have quite the selection. Great place to check out. Will be back when that sweet tooth hits again!

I do not mind driving from Fredericksburg to this shop at all. Every time I go there is just so much to see, so much to discover. From the awesome fudge to the theme chocolates (bought some teacher chocolates ) to the incredible service and the gift items...and it is not ridiculously overpriced like other specialty shops. I just love it and you can have a "sweet day" after going there :)
