I saw a photo online of a young female dog that was being held. To be sure, they're family did not come for them. After the. Period Of waiting. We came to meet miss Gracie and fell in love with her. The staff was wonderful with helping us adopt.

10/10 very very kind and helpful staff. When I was going through tough financial times, I was able to receive free bags of dog food from them for my emotional support animal. -- Do be aware that for the last few months (writing this in November 2023) Furnace Road has been blocked, so the only way to get to the SPCA is coming from the side near the dog park.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you, Heather! Ginger is as cute as could be. Also the building is nice and clean. Which is not always the case at a shelter. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a four legged family member.

We adopted Bentley (now Odin) last month from RHSPCA. We had an excellent experience. The process from being connected with his foster, to meeting him at the SPCA and filling out paperwork, was extremely easy. Each person that I worked with was very friendly and had Odin's best interest in mind.We are happy to have completed our family through RHSPCA!

My Bella baby was brought here and I've been devastated since. I never signed any papers giving consent for her to be here or sold. My kids and I wanted to get her and arranged it but my car broke down. Not being able to get her I had to rearrange a day then the wanted 200 for me to get my own dog back that I didn't even give the ok to be there. Not having the 200 to throw into getting her back I guess she'll eventually just end up being put to sleep since all these shelters are already overcrowded. My kids are upset and I've slept little to none. Bella was more then a dog. Her information isn't right either on her listing which I feel will make it harder for her to find a loving home.

The staff was helpful and compassionate accepting my donations after my dog died. I brought them beds, toys, bowls, jackets and collars and unopened canned and bagged food.

This SPCA is one of the best I’ve been to! The facility is clean and has nice grounds, and the animals all seem very well cared for. The staff have always been polite and helpful and the volunteer program is very welcoming and accessible!

I was overly pleased with the staffs concern for not only finding the right pet for me but making sure that my Lucky was being adopted by someone who could provide what this animal needed for the best quality of life possible. Lucky has been a blessing in my life after losing my faithful companion of 11 years. In the short time I have had Lucky he has gone from being shy and timid to being a faithful companion with lots of energy who lives to play and take rides. Anyone wanting a new addition to their family should definitely visit this facility as you are sure to find the right pet for your home.

We adopted our beautiful, sweet cat from Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA. We had a great experience and the staff helped narrow down a list of cats that they felt might be a good fit for our family when we felt unsure. Lo and behold there was our cat Gema (now Donut). We hadn’t noticed her prior to seeing her name on the list from staff and we knew she’d be the perfect one to join our family. She is the best cat I’ve ever had and we love her dearly. So thankful for the experience, personalized assistance, and our wonderful cat. Can’t say enough good things!

Dogs that are marked in rescue and not adoptable needs to be reconsidered . My neighbor got one that should not been adopted bc it could not be in a home with other animals. Well the damn dog injured my dog in my own fenced in yard

I have very mixed feelings about this place. Both times I adopted from the SPCA and it always ended up in a mess. I was received bad silly no information about the animal or the information about the animal was wrong. When I took my dog for his check up I found out he had allergies, going blind in one and had cataracts, he also had extreme anxiety, and needed over $700 in dental work done. The age on the cage said two but than when checking out the system said he was 12. When we adopted our cat apparently she was due for shots but they couldn’t find the copy. Said she was 6 months and was just put in the system wrong. So that’s what I was looking for a cat older than 6 months that was healthy, up to date and didn’t need anything. Well when going to check out they ended up having to give her her boosters again do to they couldn’t find the paper work. When about to leave they say oh she’s 4 months not 6 months.Well we took her home she did well and than she ended up getting an upper respiratory infection and had to get a anti fungal cream applied to help fight and remove the parasites that she brought back with her from the SPCA. She also had to be put on an antibiotic than on top of it I have to follow up in two weeks and get a specimen analyzed and her teeth re-evaluated because they said she doesn’t have a lot of space in her mouth for her adult teeth to grow. The communication, disorganization was so frustrated. I signed up to look at both animals in each slot and when we went to look at the dogs nobody assisted or helped us in anyway. Very frustrating experience and the lack of communication and her they do things are quite frustrating.I rated it three stars to be nice because I love my animals!

Very courteous staff. I made them aware of the distance I was driving over 2 hrs for a meet and greet for possible adoption. Unfortunately, the cat I adopted per my vet, had a very bad ear infection. I am not sure how the staff missed this. I understand that the cat adopted was a bit spicy and really needed his nails trimmed. Maybe if all of the pets could have their nails trimmed regularly while at the shelter, this would help reduce the stress on everyone. My experience was very good otherwise. I am enjoying my new fur baby and he's settled in nicely. He did exceptionally well on the ride from Harrisonburg to Richmond.

They changed our dogs name and neutered him before even getting ahold of us, as well as micro-chipped him. Then said it would be over 250$ to get him back!

Someone dropped a kitten off near our home and we found it in the bushes last night. Pretty beat up and hungry. Harrisonburg shelter took it in with no hassle. We're very grateful for their services to this community and the animals in Harrisonburg.

My husband took me to the SPCA for our anniversary in February 2019 and I saw this little guy they called Poncho. We had an immediate connection and I brought him home on Valentine's Day and he settled into the family like our missing piece. We renamed him Loki and his name definitely suits him. He is my little homey and I love him to death. He is spoiled rotten! Definitely a part of our crazy little family. ❤

NOT a great experience!! Staff was ridiculously rude. General questions we asked were treated and answered as a "bother". Fortunately, the volunteers we met and spoke to were all super nice, extremely helpful & informative.

Had a horrible experience today with Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA staff. I was very interested in a cat and made an appointment to take him home. The appointment was at 1pm, and at 12:54pm I received an email stating that they were trying to reach me through my phone, but since there was no contact, the cat was adopted by another family. I never received a call, and when I got there, staff told me there was something wrong with my phone. I tried my partner calling me, and the call went through. Then I was informed that adoption is first come first served. If I would had known this from the start, I would had made my appointment earlier that day. More so, just calling shouldn't be the only contact made to the person trying to adopt a pet.This information should be given when applying for a pet and there should be a system to hold the pet. Specially since we went to and gathered pet items, spending more than 200$ preparing for the cat, for them just to give the cat away without making other attempt at contact. I will definitely keep trying other rescue sites, but please be wary of this information when trying to adopt a future pet.

We arrived fairly late in the day to adopt some small mammals, and I was feeling bad that we got in so close to their closing time. The woman we worked with at the desk was so kind and helpful and not at all bothered by our timing - she was just so glad they were going to a good home. We were so grateful!

This was such a simple process. I simply was able to go online and fill out the application, and arrange a visit all in the same day. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell that they really care about the animals. I adopted a puppy, and brought my other two dogs to make sure it would be a good fit. The staff did a great job of examining the situation and giving pointers on ways my dogs can learn to cope with a new addition. Unfortunately we've maxed out our animal capacity, but for anyone with interest in adopting I highly recommend this place.

I surrendered 2 small dogs that weren't being cared for by their owners. They had been left in a building with no heat or lights. I told them that the owner hadn't been to check in on them for 24 hours and needed vet care. The dogs were turned back over to the owner! I thought the SPCA was supposed to look out for animals not put them back in a bad situation

Such a great shelter! I adopted a cat last December and the experience was overall great! The adoption process was quick and efficient. The staff is very friendly, especially those working in the cat ward. Loved going on visits in search of a new pet and am glad to say that I have found one! Will recommend to anyone in search for adopting a new companion!

They are amazing the way they take care of the animals. And the cages/kennels are are very clean. They are so friendly and helpful. They try their best to get all animals adopted. Such sweet animals they have. And they are spayed or neutered at no cost to you before being adopted, also, have vaccinations and vet exam at no cost to you. Please consider them for adoption when you want your next fur baby.
