We made numerous trips/visits to both the Harrisonburg and Winchester locations. We traveled over three hours to honor this establishment due to the professional and responsible care of their puppies and cleanliness of their facilities. We finally found a great fit for our family. Every time we visited, the staff was friendly, pens were clean, and all puppies were well taken care of, with water and food readily available in the puppies cages. Our purchase was a great experience and the staff and management went above and beyond to make sure our puppy was healthy and was going to a good home. It was a pleasant surprise to also receive the many after purchase care items, including pet insurance, free vet check, microchip, cage/toy/food, education, etc., Our puppy was vet checked, had all vaccines, and was well socialized. We had a great experience and recommend this establishment for your puppy selection. They care more than for the immediate sell of the puppy.

Dogs are evidently sourced from unethical puppy mills. No sight of food bowls are present, meaning the puppies are starved. And due to the lack of space in their confinements, puppies were seen gnawing at their enclosures and were therefore extremely hyperactive when interacting with humans. Abuse is very apparent within this store and from the mills they extract their puppies from. Furthermore, staff is extremely rude, especially to those of color. Not only did I personally experience this, where I was rudely questioned and humiliated by a staff member for simply gesturing to him that I wanted to return the puppy and leave the store, but I also watched him question a young black girl if she had money while the young white male with her was left alone. This behavior of his proved the abuse that this store inflicts upon their animals as he was thoroughly annoyed by my presence and was asking why I even walked in the store when I left empty-handed after handling the dogs due to their lack of vaccines and care. Do not support this company.*EDIT - The lack of maturity in your response shows that my review must have some truth to it. Accusing a black female of theft without any proof is a serious legal offense in Virginia. Please provide the details of this alleged "theft" to include what items were stolen. I'd be interested in seeing video footage as well.

I got Elvis from here and they were amazing! With the purchase of a puppy your also given a bag of food, treats, some toys, puppy pads and a crate for the size dog you get. They are all healthy and well cared for. Even cover ur vet for a year! I love my baby so much! Thank you Puppy City

A well-kept and clean shop. They ask THOUSANDS for their adorable little puppies that are always purebred. It makes me wonder where they're getting them from. I would encourage the community to visit their local shelter instead.

I have purchased two dogs from here and one from their location in Winchester. I understand the concern people have about puppy mills...but this store is not a puppy mill...this is a store full of people who care about the animals they have AND the home they are going to. They are open and honest up front about breed temperaments and what is good and not goof for your family. The reality is pure bred dogs are more expensive. They do an amazing job keeping the place clean and the animals happy.

We purchased a Boston Terrier from Puppy City on December 18th. We had an overall positive experience, no complaints. This is your typical puppy store, lots of dogs, all in small converted baby crib enclosures. However, you can tell the puppies are happy and healthy and that the staff truly do care about the dogs in their care. The prices are a bit steep compared to buying directly from a breeder. We paid $2,900 for a Boston Terrier when you can get them from breeders for roughly $1,500-$2,000. But if you've ever tried to buy from a breeder you know there's waiting lists, super strict lengthy contracts, and often traveling involved. The convenience of this store being an hour away and avoiding the wait lists and insane contracts made the price worth it, in my opinion. We also received a kennel, food, two bowls, and two toys included in that price, everything needed to get you through the first few days with your new puppy. Our Noelle is absolutely everything we could have ever asked for, so I am very thankful for finding Puppy City!

Wonderful experience, very friendly, worked with us, Connie was the best and very sweet talked to us like friends and not just customers. Got a cage, bag of dog food, bowls, toys, everything you would need to start out with a puppy

Very helpful in the process, just costly. However, once I factor in all the work it takes to care for all those pups, it's reasonable. SooooooBut the lady, Cynthia, who ended up selling us on the pup that we needed, not the original one we thought we wanted, saves us from so much chaos. Thank you to her for the information about the different breeds we were looking at.I have been truly surprised by all the perks that came with buying a pup instead of adopting one. I was torn on the ethics, but I will not regret buying my new best friend.Would I recommend puppy city? yeah I wouldWould I return to buy again?Yeah I willWould I look to them for more support?Already have and will if I need to againDid I enjoy the experience with them?Yes I did. The sales person was extremely helpful and knowledgeableI wish anyone reading this the best of luck finding their new best friend and recommend asking lots of questions to be absolutely clear about what they are about to dive head first into.

After the loss of my senior baby, my parents brought me here to see how I felt about possibly bringing a new love into my life. I immediately zeroed in on a Maltese who unbeknownst to me, my Mom had also fell in love with prior to my arrival (it was meant to be). After spending time with her and so much amazing help/patience from the staff (knowing the heartbreak I was still experiencing after my loss), I decided this little girl had found her forever home with me. I can’t thank Puppy City enough for not only being so caring and loving to their puppies but for also bringing me together with the munchkin who has not only stolen my heart (and my entire family’s), but is also healing it a little more every day. You guys are wonderful and I fully recommend this business to everyone!

It reeked of poop and urine inside. Several puppies were just sitting in poop. Many of them are too young to receive proper protection from their vaccines yet so many are crowded in such a small area together. That doesn’t sound like a terrible idea at all. Please support ethical good breeders and not these types of stores. When will people learn that not a single good breeder will ever give their puppies to pet stores 🙄

Absolutely loved this place. Staff was very knowledgeable, honest and helpful. We played with little Casanova today. He's such a sweetheart & will be someone's best buddy. When we're ready to add to our family, we will definitely be back! I know many people bag on places like this versus shelters but these puppies need homes too and if you need a specific breed that fits your lifestyle or family this place will help. It's pricey but worth it knowing & ensuring your puppy is in good health, knowing where it came from along with other perks with purchase. We'll definitely be back soon to play & hopefully even sooner to purchase! ❤️ PS) The best day to visit is Wednesday. They receive new puppies on Tuesday's & give them 24 hrs to settle. Join their FB page for updates!

The Harrisonburg Puppy City is ran… poorly. I bought a puppy from the Harrisonburg Puppy City one year ago and came back to see what breeds they had this year, I’ve been wanting another dog, but NOT from this place. When we went in we were the only people wearing masks (customers AND employees). This was the first weird thing to notice and then we found a dog to take out and see if it would be a good fit. The Woman at the register was very kind and helpful and when she went to bring us the pup, an older woman stopped her (who was another employee with out a name tag) and looked over at us as we waited to play with the pup and pointed and explained something to the woman bringing the puppy. At this time other customers had seen multiple dogs, the couple right beside us looked at 3!! We played with the pup and the older woman approached us and just stood at the door and said asked us to tell her when we were done and they now have a one puppy limit?!? WHAT? This was the same woman who I bought my dog from a year ago (didnt wear a mask then either). We asked another girl about the on dog limit and said it was due to covid as the older woman stated. NOT COVID OR CUSTOMER FRIENDLY EVEN TO REOCCURRING CUSTOMERS. Try your luck and go when she’s not there.

Work has been stressful, so my coworkers and I came to pet some dogs and this puppy was one of the sweetest I’ve met!! He was so happy to just chill and lick our faces!! Exactly what we needed!!

The store was extremely clean and well cared for, as were the puppies! Staff was very friendly, and engaged customers. It didn't feel like typical puppy pet shops, where the workers seem to care little about customers and pets; you could tell each staff member put a lot of thought towards the friendly evironment. Puppy pens were clean, and each dog was frequently checked on during our visit, and the merchandise is fairly priced (the candles smelled great!). I loved that we were allowed to play with the puppies, and the staff took extra care to introduce each dog and explain the process, while ensuring customers and puppies were safe during the one on one time. Recommend fully!!ETA: After reading some reviews, I wanted to add that the pricing is actually super fair and low from my experiences! A shop in Staunton prices 10k minimum on some dogs and only goes up, and refuse to let customers pet a dog unless they're buying that day. I hope that people realize that 'high' prices like these deter actual abusers and mill breeders from overstocking on dogs. Ask about the payment plan, it sounds fair from when we asked!!

Surprisingly a large selection of puppies. Most are starting priced at $3,500. If puppies have been there an extended time like over 20 weeks they will work with you on pricing. Place is kept clean and is well staffed with friendly people. We need a Bug. 5 out of seven stars for a perfect score. We will return.

I absolutely loved this place. The staff was friendly and very caring about not only the puppies safety but also the customers. They told me about each dog I played with. Even the "vicious" George 🤣. I have visited other places similar to this but they didn't allow any play time with the puppies unless you were ready to sign a contract. Puppy city knows that not everyone can afford the adoption prices, but everyone loves puppies. Also exposing the puppies to different people only helps the puppies development around people. If I could give it 10 stars I would over and over. Also I don't know Connie but I love reading your sarcastic responses to the jack legs who criticize a great place. Thank you for what you do for the puppies and the customers.

We want to thank the staff for being so informative, attentive and patient helping us while we choose our new puppy! We narrowed it down to a female pomeranian! She's absolutely adorable and full of her self! We highly recommend them! Extremely clean and well organized! If you are looking, look no further! Go see the puppies here!Thank you! We had gotten a puppy through puppy city in December 2021. We were misinformed on the loan processes. We never received our paperwork on our dog. And also haven’t received our registration papers for him. We have always been an adopt over shop a dog. We went in for a specific dog food and fell for our dog. Nothing against the fog but honestly the staff has no training on most of the basic info on services the provide. As much as i love my dog i wont ever be going back to this business

The owners and staff are fantastic, generous and welcoming. I've probably visited their Harrisonburg location a hundred times, always with a marginalized or at risk member of the community in need of some puppy cuddles. The puppies are sometimes better behaved than my companions but the people there have never made them feel "bad" or "different", always treating them with more respect and kindness than they often get in the outside world.Besides that, I always thought I didn't like puppies because they sink, but these puppies are so well taken care of that nothing at all stinks. Everything is spotless, well lit, and the puppies get plenty of love and exercise. I would highly recommend buying a puppy from these wonderful people.

Puppy City in Harrisonburg is awesome. The staff is professional and very friendly. The store is very clean and you can tell the puppies are loved and cared for as if they were their own. The prices are right in line with breeders and other stores of this nature. Puppies are family. If you aren't prepared for the expense, please don't get a puppy only to take them back or abandon them. It upsets and confuses the poor babies because they don't know what they did wrong. You can tell that Puppy City is dedicated to their puppies and loves each and every one. ❤🐶

We visited this store as prospective buyers of a new dog in our household. We have two other dogs and wanted to see if any of the puppies could be compatible with our dogs. As soon as we asked to see one of the puppies, the older women immediately asked us if we were “actually” interested in buying. We told her yes and she immediately told us that the dog was 2,700 dollars. She said it in a rude tone as if she thought we could not afford it. We were eventually brought over to one of the booths and the older woman hovered over us the entire time , as well as making comments about my party and I. I do not see myself coming back to this establishment because of my poor experience with this rude woman.

We had incredible experience at the Puppy city today.Everyone was so friendly and professional. We’ve gone to different stores before looking for a perfect pup for our family.Puppy city staff at the Harrisonburg location were superb. They didn’t hover over us at all. They gave us the space to spend some time with pups. They didn’t over power us nor pushed us to buy like other places.... we were there with our 4 busy kiddos.Everyone was so patient and kind.We came home with our adorable new addition!!!We will definitely use them again in the future and we highly recommend this place to our friends and family.

I have been into puppy city with a few of my friends who have previously bought puppies there. When we went in today the older lady was very rude and judgmental. My friend was asked if we had already been in there that week as if it was a crime. When I asked if I could look at a puppy I was told no because one my friends in the group was already playing with a puppy. My friend was being hovered over while playing with the puppy. Overall the place is great but the older lady was rude and unhelpful.

We got our Old English bulldog puppy at Puppy City Harrisonburg. Our experience was great! It’s a family run place and you can see very plainly that the animals at the store are loved and well taken care of. We made phone inquiries and set up an appointment and Jasmine very patiently answered our questions, gave insights into our puppy’s character and the breed’s peculiarities. When we were leaving the store’s manager and other employee came to say good bye to our pup. We’ve had our pup for a week and he is one happy, energetic, sweet camper!

I literally never write reviews, but my experiences the past two times I have been to Puppy City have been unacceptable. The staff was so terrible and incredibly disrespectful. One of my friends got bit by a dog and started bleeding. We showed an older woman that was working that he was bleeding and she just told him to put hand sanitizer on it. The least they could have done was offer a band aide?? Also, we asked if he could wash his bleeding hand and they said no. Do not go here unless you want to be disrespected.

I went to purchase a puppy made an appointment for a certain dog. Fell in love with the puppy and wanted to purchase it. I did the financing option because it’s convenient of paying 3,000 out of pocket. They told me my payments would be 170$ a month that was the first lie they told me. When I got home and got emails from the financial company my payments our 217 $ every 2 weeks. Lie number 2 they didn’t tell me the apr was 168% they didn’t tell me there was a 8,000 finance charge. And 3 days later when I find all of this. Out I try to return the puppy because I can’t not afford a total of 11,000 after the finance charge and the 3,000 for the dog. They told me no I only have 48 hours to return the dog sorry. Honestly this family own business should consider its customers when things like this happens. If I would have known about the APR and finance charge I never would have done it. I feel like an extra 24 hours from the 48 I should have been accommodated to return my puppy with the circumstance of not being told anything and just sign papers.

I do not ever leave reviews because I believe people can be unjustifiably rude or mean. The place was clean and the puppies seem happy and healthy. It was the treatment by the staff that made our visit very disappointing. I came in with my roommate who bought a dog the year before, and we were interested in possibly getting another dog. Before the staff member brought us the dog we picked out, the owner stopped the worker and said something to her while looking at us. We played with the dog for about five minutes until the owner came up to us and stood there without saying anything. We asked her about pricing and she was very short. After, we wanted to hold another dog we were informed that it was a 1 dog policy due to covid. I am not upset about that, it is the fact that the people next to us saw at least 2 dogs in 5 minutes that I knew it was a lie. I asked another staff member if it was due to covid, and she said yes. I am not sure if the owner assumed because of our age that we could not afford a dog, but that is not the case. Considering the fact that they might have had a reoccurring customer and treated us so rudely is beyond me. After reading the other reviews and hearing similar stories, I am sure it wasn’t a misunderstanding or coincidence.

I am very particular when it comes to the health and proper confirmation of my dogs. Having just lost my boxer in his old age I decided on a Boston Terrier, down sizing you could say. I was thoroughly dismayed when I started my search in my area that no one had the proper color or confirmation that is for the Boston Terrier. I found the perfect Boston Puppy at Puppy City in Harrisonburg, Va!I called and had several questions, the manager Connie answered everything cheerfully while also making sure I knew all the ins and outs of this particular breed. I decided on one certain puppy and Connie held it with a deposit until I could drive the 6 hours to inspect her in person. I could not be more pleased. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, the puppies and their pens were spotless and all were happy and very healthy looking.Having just come back with the initial check from my personal vet who also gave 2 thumbs up for her health and general good looks. She is everything I had hoped for and could not find locally. I can't say enough about the staff and cleanliness of Puppy City as well.

Very disappointed. We bought puppies from here and we were told both puppies had different breeders by an employee, the employee confirmed this multiple times. However, we were only given paper work for one puppy at the time. We trusted the employee. After the purchase and we received all final papers we realized we were lied to. Very disappointed with this. Love the puppies dearly, but are very sad that we were lied to.

I got my baby boy Riot the corgi from there when they first opened! He had a bit of a cold, and they took care of the vet expenses to make it right! Thoroughly impressed with them. They also seem to take great care of the puppies, which is great!
