I used to really like this store and came to it often but unfortunately I have had enough bad experiences that I won't be returning.1. They are not allergy friendly. Even if the baked goods do not say they have nuts, they may be cross contaminated. I had an allergic reaction to a baked good that I had eaten there many times before. I double checked the label to make sure I didn't pick up a different one by accident. I didn't - the label said nothing about containing nuts or being made around nuts - but I did have a severe reaction to it.2. I don't find the staff to be friendly at all and are actually more rude than anything. I noticed this enough that it started to make my shopping experience unpleasant and I actually dreaded checking out. I'm not sure what their training is but most don't even really greet you or look at you. It's strange and kind of ironic considering this is the "friendly" co-op.

The employees are kind but clueless as to what the store actually sells. I asked for a natural headache remedy but the employee I asked was unable to help me find it. One of the customers - bless her heart was able to find something for me right off the bat. Bottom line is ask a fellow customer, you will likely have better luck. This is not a joke.

Amazing co-op to buy local produce and goods. I stopped by here during my trip to Harrisonburg and got myself local coffee, eggs, butter, and cheese. Definitely worth the price!

This is the best co-op. They carry a wide variety of fresh vegetables, bulk grains, and natural health care items, to name a few. The hot bar is spectacular every single day!

If you haven't shopped here, you are missing out! This little grocery store is perfect for someone like me who is looking for unique things and that isn't all about going to a crowded store. The experience I have from being a member at Friendly City Co-op is amazing! I can't tell enough people about this store!

🎉 Came here for the self serve lunch. Lots of fresh, quality ingredients at $8.49 a pound. Worth every penny and the entrees rotate each day. Coffee bar on-site, too.🌞 There's a shaded, outdoor seating area to enjoy your lunch.💡Come here before noon if you want first dibs on the self serve lunch options. Otherwise, you might see scraps.⚠️ There's free wifi, but it was spotty at best if you're sitting outside.

i made my first visit to the Co-op today. This will definitely NOT be my last time. The salad bar was delicious and very fresh. I didn't purchase anything from the hot bar, but i must say, everything looked amazing.

Just what we want when traveling and in need of healthy food! We got some local products (apples, berries, maple syrup and spinach) and other unique healthy products. We were bummed they didn’t make fresh green juices and weren’t informed of where to go. I am surprised at the comments about unfriendly staff because everyone I encountered was very friendly!

I love this place. They have a great produce section and reasonable prices. I also have found that the employees are very nice and helpful. I drive an hour to shop here because we don't have any organic food in our county

*updatedGenerally decent shopping but some of the kitchen staff that do the cooking for the food bar should be working somewhere else. One in particular is disrespectful, rude, and definitely wouldn't speak to me like that outside of the business. This guy also needs re-education on food safety and hand washing. There is also a younger cashier who seems to always be angry. She has always treated me like I'm beneath her or just an inconvenience to even check out. Thankfully I haven't seen her my last several visits. This place has really changed.

I love the variety here, they always have something I’ve never tried before in addition to “normal” groceries. We loved it so much we became part owners. It is so nice to have options that are environmentally friendly AND convenient. Love the refill stations for grains, spices, honey, snacks, and cleaners.

If you are looking for high-quality herbs, vitamins and good alternative brand stuff - this is a good place to go decent bulk item selection. I prefer it to whole foods.

The staff here was very friendly! The selection here is pretty vast and they had everything I was looking for. Sure it's a little more pricey but that's what you are going to get at a co-op. Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely go back.

Great place horrible staff. The rumors about the employees being angry miserable people are unfortunately all true. I've spent so much money here and tried to get to know the staff but they clearly have no regard for their customers. Despite the awesome and high quality products the insufferable employees turn the somewhat easy task of grocery shopping absolutely unbearable. The girls at checkout are truly the worst of them. If I didn't know any better I would think there was some "who can inconvenience the most customers" competition...In particular, this one girl (brown hair, youngish looking (probably 17/18)) who consistently works at checkout truly has it out to ruin days. Between her disgusting and condescending attitude and yearning to cause problems, the place should just fire her. I've heard similar experiences/complaints specifically about her from at least five or six other people (college students). It is really sad to see such a young girl filled with so much anger and spite. Lower your expectations as soon as you walk in or else you will be very disappointed. Unfortunately, will not be spending near as much money at this place. It's too bad that such a great community co-op has such angry and spiteful employees (although based on other reviews, maybe its just targeted towards college students...which is even weirder given the location). FYI they're beyond judgmental here so if you're not in the mood for judgements...AVOID(I have been shopping her at least twice a week for two years now, this problem began a couple months ago...or whenever the specific checkout girl started...)

I enjoy the weekday hot and cold food bars. There is a lot of meats and produce locally sourced. They also pre package food prepared in their kitchen. The tuna salad is the best.

Since moving to Harrisonburg, my husband and I do all of our grocery shopping here. This store has the perfect selection of local produce, organic snacks, and even has a bulk item refill section (great for getting rice and grains!). The cheese selection is fantastic if you are a charcuterie fan. Considering you’re getting local/organic items only, I feel the prices are very reasonable.

I really liked this food co-op. They have a lot of local products in there as well as some hard to find specialty items. Looking for liquid vegan pizza cheese? They've got it! And if you're wondering, it was a good alternative if that's what you're looking for. They also have a good selection of prepared foods which I would love to explore for lunch. I hope to check it out again soon.Edit to add: came here for lunch and tried the hot food bar! So good. Great option to grab a quick and healthy lunch.

I wish I could do all my shopping here!! The cleanliness, quality and attentiveness are always commendable!Due to the fact that products are organic and healthier, the prices are a bit high for me . However, they are the only place in town which carries the brand of yogurt that we like to eat. So, I always indulge in some of the fruits and vegetables or some of the meat products.I was raised in a largely vegetarian atmosphere so it isnnixe to have a place to go where I know I will be able to find more items that are a bit ambiguous but helpful to maintaining a balanced diet.In the line one day I heard an employee eagerly tell one lady that they take EBTand also match whatever is spent on vegetables and fruit. Another day I heard a different employee eagerly and patiently explaining how someone can buy share of the Co op. A different day two employees each went out of their way to answer my questions or hunt down an item for me. In ten years I have never had a bad experience at the Friendly City Co op!
