Since this is the closest Food Lion to my home; this is where I prefer to shop if I'm not doing a Walmart delivery order. Lately I have been very dissatisfied with the quality of customer service. The way they all snaped at people on Christmas Eve 2023 was very distasteful. They proceeded to yell and scream kicking people out when it was not time to close. It was very rude and unprofessional. I have made my last trip to this Food Lion and will from now on go to the one in Phoebus. The cashier was very rude and not able to do her job. She could not multi-task efficiently but insisted on having a non work related conversation with the customer in front of me. She would ring something up stop talk; pause and then maybe continue. This red head that worked 1/1/2024 evening shift does not belong in customer service. She insisted I wait until her conversation was over and proceeded to continue to have the conversation even after the other customer had stopped. When I asked for a manager employees state that there was no manager in the store. Because of the lack of staff and no one would ring me up on another register. I had no choice but to leave my groceries. It is unfortunate that this incident has caused a loss of revenue. If this type of customer service continues Food Lion will continue to lose revenue. The two encounters that I've mentioned in this review are not the first. I have just had it up to the tide rising with the Food Lion on Nickerson.

The store is kept clean and it is normally a fairly quick check out process.The one thing I do not like about this store is you have to be careful with meats and seafoods. This store will sell you meats and seafoods that are past the date and may make you sick. About 2 years ago, I bought some pre-cooked ribs that were marked special. When I opened them at home they were slimy and moldy on the bottom. When I pulled the special tag off, they were weeks past the use by date. I bought some fresh Mahi that was prepacked in the meat department. I opened them 3 days later and they were all slimy. I looked at the date on the bottom and the use or freeze by date was 1101 when I had purchased them on 1109 -- they were selling seafood over a week past use by date. I had them for 3 days so they were now 11 days past the expiration date. About 6 months ago, I went to pick up some packaged lunch meats that were on sale. When I looked at the date, they had expired over a month prior. I mentioned it to the manager and he just turned and walked away. Do not ever buy the Food Lion brand fresh chicken. I bought a whole chicken and when I opened it in a pan, it was loaded with water they inject to raise the weight, When they process the chicken, they inject a salt water solution under the skin. After completely draining the chicken in a pan, it had almost 12 ounces of liquid they added to a 3 pound chicken. You are paying about $3 for a cup of water. The chicken tasted horrible with the chemical water injected into it. It was not edible and tossed in the trash.Most of the produce is not fresh. On almost any day of the week, you can find moldy produce on the shelves. I buy bananas and prepacked salads but do all my other produce shopping elsewhere.For groceries, you can get some good sale prices. The regular prices are just about the same as Wallie World. I shop here regular but no longer purchase meats or produce since they are never fresh.

50% of the time you are not getting a cart. It’s not once or twice and a small inconvenience it’s half the time you have to wait for a cart or carry all the items you need. You’re losing money. If I can’t fit everything in the cart I need I just don’t get it at this point and go to the farm fresh later. GM with long grey hair just stands there looking at 10+ customers walking around staring at him arms overflowing

This store has consistently amazed me with their great customer service and amazing selection of products. I have looked for some pretty off the wall stuff and by golly, they carry it! They have a great selection of gluten free and vegan products. I have never felt unsafe or disturbed by anyone in the parking lot, no more or less than anywhere else. I just can't say enough about how impressed I am by this particular store. There are fancier stores nearby that have a lot of bells and whistles but they are more expensive. I can get everything I need at this very nice Food Lion, for less.

Always filthy and dirty outside the store. Constantly out of stock on items. The only good thing about this store is the customer service. The associates are always polite and efficient. I try to avoid this store but, unfortunately, it's the closest grocery store for a quick in and out.

Pathetic customer service! Used the shopping app to place my order for pick up. Went at my scheduled priority time, and the order was not ready. Was told by Kay she has no control over time or how the orders come down, but my order had 8 more before my group of orders came down, and they dont have shoppers right now. There were at least 5 people standing around doing nothing in that area. I asked if I could do the shopping myself, and she told me to call my app help line. As I walked away to call the help line, Kay began to refund my order. ( I was very angry at this point becausei didnt tell her to cancel anything, i said so not nice things becausemy money was being held in limbo) I reach my help line and they told me it would be 7 to 10 business days before I could get my money back. I became more angry, I had no money and no groceries. As I spoke with the person on the phone, a rather larger man and another manager approached me, cornering me against the wall to ask what happened. While explaining, Kay came to the area, as if she felt the need "put me in my place" and said she would shop the order although I was nasty to her! What?!?! These managers I felt tried to intimidate me and did not step in to help in a professional manner but instead allowed Kay to talk to me, the customer with anger, for asking and expecting her to do her job. I will not be returning to this store. This store needs training on time management, their pick-up system accuracy, customer service, and how to deal with angry customers. This entire mess could have been eliminated if Kay would have said, your order is not ready, but we will shop it right now. Instead of telling me she had no control and I would just have to wait. That is good customer service. Kay shopped my order and did not give me half of the items.

Employees are very nice and helpful. They're the reason this is a regular place we run to when we need something.Parking lot gets cleaned every night. Plenty of parking but parking lot gets hectic during busy times.Produce section could be better quality but overall everything is well organized and store is always decently stocked.

I was in there to buy 2 things and I couldn't find 1 of them so I was looking around for it they thought I was trying to steal so the security guard came up to me and let me know. Insstead of buying what I was there to get I left cause to me that means I can't shop there. I've never had an issue with any stores doing that before now. I don't think I'll be going back for a while due to that assumption. I've never stolen from Food Lion so idk what made the staff think that'd what I was there to do. Maybe it's cause I walked into the store drunk but within 5 to 10 minutes I decided to put the 1 item I found back and just leave. I've never felt so unwelcomed at a store before and I've worked a lot of retail. At least the security guard was respectful about it. But still that's kinda messed up. The staff is usually so helpful and respectful so idk what's changed. I often walk into stores to look around and price compare and I've never had this problem before

The heavy set black manager is trash ! Instead of doing his job he sits around talking to employees about personal life! I've heard from several people he is very un professional. Taking my business elsewhere!

This place is a joke. Online add says chicken wings or thighs $.99. Store says sale applies to whole chickens only. So why would it say wings or thighs!! Go somewhere else if you can, not the first time for screw up!!

1) Their steak selections are below average. Mainly Chuck. No ribeye, T-bone, or NY strip.2) I searched for Turkey wings......no luck there either. I should have gone to Aldi's

I don't like going to the grocery store. But the stop I made at this Food Lion was quick. I only needed a few items and it was the weekend and busy. I was able to find my items, get in line, check out and get back in my car within 20 minutes. I wish all grocery runs were the same way, regardless of store. This Food Lion was clean and had many carts available. There were lines at the check out but they moved really fast. Plenty of employees were available to help if you needed it. Well run store.

Did not appreciate that I tried to purchase a gift card at 10:35pm and was told that I couldn't because they closed in 25 minutes and I had to use the self checkout which wouldn't do the gift cards. That's terrible and ridiculous. Why not just close the store at 10:30 then?

This place is a bit run down. Parking lot always has trash everywhere. There’s a homeless guy living at the right entrance who is inside and outside of the store hassling people for money every day.

Close'st store to home, with the exception of "Wally World" (Walmart) and they are striving to be like K-Mart... You know Higher prices and lower quality. I have found Wally World to be higher than local grocery stores, even the stores in low income areas like mine.As for Food Lion not much better than Wally World.Both seem to strive for lower quality and higher prices.In conclusion... In this area... You're stuck or screwed when looking for quality or price.Harris Teeter and Kroger are usually better priced and have a MUCH better selection, it's just twice as far as the others.

Very good service. For someone on a budget with multiple family members this is a god send! I can stay within budget and still get what I need. Shoppers are very helpful when items are not available and if you forget something you can add it as long as it is before checkout. I have found my new normal in this crazy world!

To the store manager, keep a close eye on your cashiers make sure they are communicating with customers and not on their cell phones especially the younger cashiers it's one thing to be busy it's another to try and look busy but overall I love the store very clean so to whomever is in the custodial department you make sure him or her gets a big old raise cuz that store looks immaculate and the bathrooms are awesome

It had very nice employees that were glad to help out in any way. I am not familiar with the store so it took me a while to find everything that I needed. But whatever I purchased was good enough for anywhere. I did buy more than I usually do, but that's OK with me. Probably will be much better when I get to know my way around the store.

Recently updated to better accommodate its customers. Been shopping here since 2005. Staff had always been helpful and accommodating. To help customers feel more secure they have an armed guard at the entry/exit point. Never an incident at this location that I am aware to warrant an armed guard, but maybe that is enough.

Easy and quick trip. They have bathrooms readily available and employees that are scattered throughout the store that are always there to help you. The stores kept clean and on my visits the self-checkouts are usually available. The shelves always seem to be fully stocked as well.

I dont know what has been going on here i have shopped at this store for over 7 yrs. Lately the customer service has been terrible cashiers are so rude and will actually argue with customers. If thet are overwhelmed please give them a break. So they can treat people shopping there better.
