Stopped in to get some weed and feed fertilizer. The clerk at the register didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. Unbelievable, they do not carry it. Heck, Walmart carries it. Get with the program SS.

Staff is friendly, but this location is always out of staple products (today it was fine flake shavings, last time it was Wrangler 12%, the time before it was lay crumbles) I travel all over the state for work and this location is one of several Southern States stores that I stop at en route to and from my customers, and honestly, I'm going to skip this location from now on. I would be tempted to just say that it was a supply chain problem, but the other locations I frequent haven't experienced any shortages for a year now, so I think that it's a management issue - whoever is doing the ordering isn't getting their ordering volume correct. I personally managed a feed store for 6 years and with so much of the process done by inventory management software these days it's really not that hard to run a report and know what to order and when. But I leave this location empty handed about 50% of the time because they're out of the stuff, and like today, the kid at the register didn't even offer a close alternative or info on when what I wanted may be back in stock, or anything helpful. The hard part is if you live in this area you don't have much choice - it's another 30+ minutes I'm any direction to find a TSC or other alternative.

These people try hard to get their customers what they need. Sometimes stock is not as good as it could be, but let a manager know & they will do what they can.

Stopped in today to see what Native Plants they had for sale. The weeds growing between the rows and between nursery pots were waist high and everthing was a straggly mess.Will take my gardening business to SS W.Broad going forward. Very disappointed in our Goochland SS.

Everything was fine until I needed bags loaded into my vehicle. I gave my receipt to be loaded up and drove to the loading dock but no one would assist me. I became concerned when customers following me were given service. When I inquired what happened to my purchase I was told my receipt was lost and no one would help me. It felt like they did not want to help me. I then went back into the store to ask for the manager and the cashier said she would print another receipt. After my bags of feed were identified they took them out to my truck but did not put them in the flat bed. It felt so strange to receive this type of bad service. There was no traffic at the store. I've been shopping at Southern States for over 25 years and honestly this is the first time I've felt discrimination. I really don't care if your staff has personal problems with people of color or whatever; but this is a place of business and it should be conducted as such.

I get my live Christmas tree here every year. They seem to last well and don't dry out so fast. I always get a Fraser fir. They are easy to decorate. I paid $50 for an 8 foot tree which is a good price for that size tree. My husband uses this store for lawn maintenance materials, too.

I love this store. Ok, things are more expensive in here than in other places but I would have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Tractor Supply or Walmart and much further for Lowes.On top of this, the staff are great. Genuinely friendly and fun to deal with, they usually know their stuff or can find someone who does. Very nice. The icing on the cake is that Southern States does not carry junk. If they have it, it is good quality. Hands down. It may cost an arm and a leg but you can bank on it working right. Their veterans discount, for me, offsets the high prices just a bit.Great store over all. Oh, and they have Cheerwine and Sundrop sodas in glass bottles. This alone would bring me in at least once a week!

Southern states just lost a long time customer. Up until today, I have purchased all of my dog, cat and chicken food, not to mention all of my farm and garden stuff here. I went in today, and pulled a bottle of animal repellant off the shelf, that was clearly marked $19.79. At the register it rung up for nearly $60. Cashier refused to sell at marked price, which goes against any store I've ever shopped at. With a new Tractor supply in Rockville, I see no reason to keep going back to Southern States.

Bully slices I’ve bought for my dogs for 2 years were 10.99 2 months ago and this location has raised them up to almost $14.99! You can get them from chewy and other places for 11.99.
