They are a true gem in the never ending crowded sea of big box stores and online giants. NRO continues to earn my business over and over vs. all the other options. So initially I bout a knife off of there website, unfortunately the description of the knife I bought accidentally had a different knives description so I didn’t get the knife I thought I was. Thankfully all it took to fix it was a quick phone call! I spoke with the employees at there shop and they said they would be happy to swap out the knife I got with a different one. So I took a drive up to the actual store, when I got there both employees were extremely polite and helpful. Once I had picked out the replacement knife, even though it was a little more expensive than the original they covered the cost! All in all I would say if I could I would give them seven stars! Since I can’t they definitely get five stars. Will absolutely be going to them again!

Great company! After placing an order I started looking at reviews. I became worried because I read some negative remarks. I sent an email a few days after placing an order and did receive an extremely helpful response. I think people should remember this isn’t amazon, Walmart, or some other large retail store. These guys are working hard to ensure they are maintaining inventory and responding to customers. It may not be an immediate response but they will get to you. Great business A++ Yes, I received the items I ordered.

Disappointing.. I have placed many orders with NRO and never had an issue, unfortunately this is was my last. Ordered these three as gifts, one came opened and damaged, one new in package and the other just in an envelope with bubble wrap around it. I emailed NRO explaining what I received...no response, I waited a few days and called and left a message...no response.

Ordered a Rouge Travis tool at a good price. It was shipped quickly and although UPS wasn't fast, the packaging was fantastic. A tool like this didn't need that type of shipping protection but it was good to see. I would shop here again.

Great price for the full size Adamas, and great communication throughout the shipping time. I’m only leaving a 4-star review because the knife appears to have been a store display model and the box was opened and material scattered inside (seal was cut and re-taped, the clip protector was removed, there was a tag inside with a rubber band used to display the price, etc). The knife itself is in good unused condition though.

Super fast shipping! I received the wrong item and they promptly emailed me back and will be shipping out the correct shirt and are allowing me to keep this shirt they sent by mistake as a gift. It was cute just not what I ordered. Great store and would definitely recommend.

Hands down the best customer service from an online retailer I've ever had. Jesse is awesome. I purchased a frost river bag from NRO because they had the best price. Right after I purchased I looked and the item said sold out. I sent an email concerned I had just purchased something that was sold out and had an email back very quickly assuring me of my purchase and letting me know when it will be sent out. THEN Jesse took the time to email again the day of the bag being shipped. And if that wasn't enough we discussed my interest in purchasing an axe and Jesse made sure I was in the right place for that. Bottom line. This is a small businesses filling big shoes and doing it with solid products and amazing customer service. Will be purchasing from them in the near future.

Bought the White River 3.5 Firecraft, now you can go online and see great reviews about this knife. My five stars I'd for the customer service. This purchase was among several purchases I made where I didn't want to get the side eye from you know who over frivolous spend on even more outdoor gear. So I decided to pick the knife up in store. Unfortunately work was preventing that from happening. I contacted the guys at NRO and they said they would ship it for me. It was off and in the mail the very next day. Thanks Guys!

I had seen bad reviews and was hesitant. I wanted to purchase a low value item (under $20) but there was only one in stock. I emailed them and they got back to me within two hours to let me know that the item was indeed in stock. I placed the order and received the item 3 days later. It was well packaged with lots of bubble wrap. I don't know what happened to the other customers but my purchase was flawless. Thank you North River Outdoors 🙂

UPDATE: I’m changing my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. I was able to communicate with the store representative and resolve the issue. He credited back 10% of my order to me. I understand that sometimes things don’t go as planned - but communication should always be a priority. They satisfied me in this area. I really like the selection of items they carry and so I’m going to give them a pass on this experience and hope it’s a rare thing.Old review:I’ve ordered several times from North River. A few of the orders were flawless: fast shipping / great product. Then I had one order that never shipped. It could be an inventory issue maybe but they haven’t communicated. I’ve emailed three times and called and left messages. It’s been a month since I placed the order and I have no idea what’s going on. It’s a bit of a gamble if you decide to order.Dear owner: you have a cool store with some awesome items. But, you or your employees lack of customer service makes it hard to risk ordering from you - it may be fine or you may never get your items. Please try to improve in this area.

Please don't let some of the negative reviews prevent you from ordering from here. I ordered a hatchet from NRO about a week ago and had a great experience with them. Before ordering, I checked out the reviews and immediately became worried, but I quickly started noticing a trend that all the dissatisfied reviews were about lack of response and delayed deliveries. When I started looking at the dates, all of those orders were placed after Covid started. I'm not saying these buyers didn't have a right to be upset (they did), but I decided to start reading reviews from earlier this year and 2019 – every single post was positive and the buyers (especially in-store shoppers) all had great things to say about their experience and the owners.As I continued to read about the store I saw that during this already-hard time, they also started moving into a new location. I took covid and the move into account, plus I wasn't in a hurry to receive the hatchet, so I said what the hell and placed the order despite my hesitations.The very next morning I found the item for less, so I reached out to NRO through the sales email address. The reviews didn't give me a lot of confidence that i'd hear back, but WITHIN 2 MINUTES (seriously) I received a reply from Jesse saying he'd match the price and will be sending my order out the next morning. He did and I received it yesterday (about a week after the purchase date).So the moral of the review... 2020 is tough, give small businesses a chance.

I placed an order of $122.92 on March 5th. I requested status updates by email on 3/9, 3/11, 3/17, and 3/24. I’ve been unable to reach anyone by phone. To date my order hasn’t shipped, I haven’t received any status updates or responses yet they still have my money. I like to support small businesses - but I do still have to receive the products I pay for.Edit 4/22/22: Still no products. Still no refund. Still no communication. I’ve never had this experience with a company like this before!Edit 4/28/22: Order was cancelled. Situation resolved.

I’m not one for mail ordering but when it’s something I can’t get locally sometimes I have to and when I do I want to use small business that will support a community . Let me say that this company has got you covered I ordered a white river backpacker pro and they got it to me expediently. After I place my order I contacted they about it because I had a few questions via email. They helped me get answers to the questions I had and let me know it was on the way. Overall their customer service was superb. I will definitely be shopping with them again in the future and recommend my friends check them out as well.

Ordered an axe that said there was a 4-8 day delay from manufacturer (no problem) and then never heard anything about an estimated delivery time. When I called the voicemail was full, I emailed and got no response, I used their online request a callback and never got one. I'm in the process of cancelling my payment with PayPal and have ordered it on Amazon instead. It was cheaper through here and I was supporting a small business but I'm done.

My first order from North River Outdoors was my first Curtiss knife purchase, a F3 medium slicer slim in magnacut blade steel. I just received the package this afternoon and I am happy to report that everything turned out perfectly!The North River Outdoors website was easy to navigate and worked flawlessly. My order was shipped the same day it was placed. Order tracking kept me updated about the shipping progress. Most importantly, the package arrived in perfect condition and the knife is awesome!! I have had a mixed bag of experiences with North River Outdoors in the past. Sometimes they are great and other times it's a nightmare. Their customer service (on the off chance you can actually get a response) is okay. The issue is their lack of communication (I have emailed them 5 times without a response) and their shipping speeds. I ordered over a week ago and haven't heard anything back regarding shipping. I have attempted to contact them each of the last 3 days with no response. When you try to call them their voice-mail is full and you cannot get ahold of anyone. You need to focus on giving your customers better service.
