Super disappointed in this place. They say they value their customers, did not have that experience. Or try to make their customers happy, again, not my experience. I went in for a ring tattoo and less than 3 weeks in the lines in the tattoo were inconsistent and lacked a clear line. I have attempted several emails with the artist and owner, neither have responded. So, I guess customer service is not their priority. I wanted a consult and requested one but no response. Very unfortunate and disappointed with this service.

I had a really good experience at the shop today. I met the owner, and had a nice conversation. I ended up getting tattooed by Lili, which was also a great experience in of itself. Nice people!

very clean shop. very friendly people and a fun environment. took my son today for his first tattoo and Abby did an amazing job! we go back in two weeks for the colors to be done . it's an exact drawing of my son's pet ball python charlie I will add a new review with the completed tattoo after it's finished . this is what was done today and we love it

I have got to say this place will have my business (and skin lol) for a very long time, I went in for a walk in appointment advertised for Saturdays and Sundays, I was having a rough day and just needed to feel good again. Jerry was so understanding and matched my energy. We figured out what kind of tattoo and where I wanted it, I left everything else up to him. He did everything WITH NO STENCIL NO PICTURE just my arm and a tattoo gun, he is extraordinarily talented and has been tattooing for 40 years you can trust his skill. I’ll include a picture as I am very proud of the art on my body I really believe no one could have done this better

I recently had the pleasure of getting a tattoo here. My roommate and I both did a walk in, and were tatted by two different artist. Both were impeccable, did quick and detailed work! Both tats were well priced and we both walked away very satisfied with the work! We will definitely be back! Thank you for creating a great environment !

Only after an amazing experience at a shop in Richmond this weekend for my first tattoo could I really appreciate how ridiculous my encounter with one particular tattooist at Toucan Tattoo was.My adult son and I were looking for a tattoo shop after he went through a difficult life experience and wanted to get a tattoo (his first) of a Picasso sketch that inspired him. I decided to also get my first tattoo in support. I had an appointment at Toucan and emailed the art.In an incredibly insensitive manner, the artist sent a terse reply stating “I will not put "doodles" on people because it reflects poorly on me when people see the tattoo and ask where you got it. I can't attach my name to poor art.” Even after learning the “poor art” was not mine but Picasso’s, she fell back on her fear others would mistake it for hers, which makes absolutely no sense (assuming she didn’t plan to sign it, anybody asking me about my tattoo would learn it was Picasso, right?)So basically, a tattoo is not yours but theirs?! The meaning you place on a tattoo is meaningless to them unless they approve of the art? And heaven forbid you submit your own art, be better than Picasso or prepare to be insulted.I can appreciate the right of a tattoo artist to decline work for almost any reason, but rather than asking for more information or if she could work with me on it, she responded with an extremely condescending email unknowingly calling a famous (and completely non-offensive) Picasso painting “poor art.” A little humility goes a long way.The artist later apologized but felt the need to reiterate her refusal, leaving me to question the sincerity and whether it was just to avoid a bad review. In fairness, I never was in the shop nor met Jerry the owner and I am sure the artwork would be great. For my first tattoo experience it just created a first impression of an elitist tattoo community, which thankfully turned out to be wrong.I hate writing a bad or one-star review (this may be my first one ever), but my encounter with that artist at Toucan’s almost made me abandon the idea of a tattoo, which would have been a mistake. I hope this review is a reminder that although the artist makes the tattoo, the customer wears it for the rest of their life along with the memory of the experience of getting it. Fortunately I found an amazing place in Richmond that understands that, and I absolutely love and wear proudly my so-called “doodle”!Note: After reading Jerry’s response, I checked and found I had missed his reply, so I edited my review. My experience is what is, but it looks like going direct to Jerry first would have been a much better one. Perhaps there is just a better way for certain tattooists to accept appointments without insulting somebody’s art - at least for me it was Picasso’s and not mine.

Amazing work by the Artist/Owner Jerry! Two friends and myself went in for walk-in appointments on 3 identical custom tattoos. Jerry was very accommodating, knew just what we wanted and was happy to work with us immediately. He did great work and at a very fair price. All 3 of us walked out with tattoos we love! I came to Toucan Tattoo for a cherry blossom about a month ago! Bryant did a wonderful job. Area was clean and tidy. Customer service was great. He went over the healing process with me and it is fully healed now. I definitely recommend this shop!Sunday I went to get another tattoo. This one done by Max. He did phenomenal as well! I love this one and the meaning behind it is deep. Max and his assistant made my friend and myself feel comfortable. I love his line work and shading he did with the elephants. The little added color makes it POP!Both encounters are A++. This shop has very talented artists. I will be returning for any future work.

I don’t live in the area and spontaneously went for a walk in session for a custom tattoo. The tattoo I was imitating was done professionally at a popular studio and was not a simple pattern. Gregory and Bryant were fantastic artists. They were such a pleasure to talk with and they drew up our tattoos exactly as we wanted them. They took us on short noticed and definitely delivered. The prices were fantastic and another artist Max greeted us and was super friendly and talkative with us. It was just a absolute pleasure and I will definitely be driving down from NY to get more tattoos. This place is fantastic and Words cant describe how great this place and the artists who work there are.

Extremely impressed with Toucan Tattoo! Super clean inside. Aby is a freakin rockstar and did awesome work. Would definitely recommend her to anyone. My fiancé got a beautiful piece done by her (pre-COVID), so we went back to her for our matching tattoos. She was able to make our matching tattoos very masculine for him and super feminine for me, so more like his-and-hers, which is even cooler. I love the laid-back vibe of the whole place and even our encounter with the shop owner was super sweet. We will definitely be back to this superior tattoo place, where they rock from beginning to end.

Once again, Toucan Tattoo has shown me how positive the tattooing experience can be. I called about a walk-in and was able to be tattooed within the same evening, and upon showing up I was met by an artist that was more than happy to answer all of my questions no matter how small. My fiance and I traveled down to Williamsburg for the weekend and decided to get last minute vacay tattoos. I DMed them about availability, and Bryant responded and let me know they were doing walk-ins. We waited about 1-1 1/2 hours on the wait-list until one of artist was available. Jeff did my sternum tattoo. He was very respectful and kind! The tattoo turned out great! Max did my fiances tattoo. He turned my fiance badly hand sketched idea into a awesome custom design, that also turned out amazing! Would definitely be a regular if we lived in the area!

Jerry (owner), Max, Abby, and Bryant are all wonderful people who care very much about bringing your tattoo concept to life. Jerry has done all of my work for the last 10yrs and I'll be hard pressed to ever find another artist who can compare. Toucan is the best tattoo shop, hands down. The shop is clean and comfortable. Jerry is an excellent artist and has done the majority of my tattoo work, all of which is highly detailed and complicated. He is able to help translate my artistic ideas into ink on skin, refining them with his talents. He is always honest about what is and is not possible in a tattoo, saving me more than once from a poor tattoo choice.

Wonderful artists in this shop all the way around! Immediately when I walked through the door they were eager to help me with each and every question I had. They all immediately made me feel like family and from then I knew Toucan Tattoo was my new tattoo home. The way all the artists work together as a unit/team is something I have never seen before in any shop I have ever gotten tatted in. They help each other out the entire time and see every tattoo that comes into the shop throughly and with great wisdom. They want to make sure your happy with what your getting and will work with you in a calm and inviting way the entire time. Bryant is the amazing artist that did my tattoo and I have to say...amazing artist means amazing outcome. I have never seen drive and ambition to do work like he did. You know you have found a great artist when they are enthusiastic about what they do and so eager to get in there,work long hours and produce the best quality. (Third review) I ran into Max and he offered to make any changes I wanted. Stopped in today and he came in on his day off to accommodate. Already looking better. Will comment again after it heals a couple days. Thanks Max.(Second review) As the swelling and redness has gone down and I've really been able to see the work, the coloring done is terrible!! Blotchy and speckled, not filled in completely - in fact hardly filled in at all!! And, as I said the first time, missed black lines too! For extremely high price of $300, compared to my other ink (more than twice the size, way better quality work and only 2/300 the price!) After bragging about how fast he works (and trashing other local artists - not cool dude) - now I can clearly see why it didn't take long at all. Other artists quoted me 3 hours in the chair - Max only took 50 minutes. I certainly hope this will be fixed at no additional cost and with some compensation for my inconvenience.(First reveiw) Decent job done, but I will need to come in for touch ups due to lines missed and coloring very speckley/ not filled in completely. Will re-review once tattoo completed.
