We recently made the heartbreaking decision that our cat had reached a point that her struggles were just too much. She was a sweet kitty who only wanted loves and food and to watch her deteriorate was awful. The techs and the dr explained everything that was going to happen and gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. I’m not sure what I expected when we took her in but I can honestly say if you are considering the end of life for your pet you will not find more compassion and patience anywhere else. It doesn’t feel right to say thank you, but I am grateful that the experience was a peaceful one for her and for us.

The staff at VVC are an INCREDIBLE group of people! I brought my 10 year old male cat there because he had bladder stones that blocked his ability to pee. This is a VERY serious condition and can be life-threatening if not addressed quickly. My cat's name is Blue Cheese and he is a very sweet boy! Blue had been to other regular veterinarians days prior and had his blockage removed by using a catheter to push the stones back into his bladder and allowing him to pass urine but the day after his catheter was removed he got blocked again. Since no other local vets had overnight care I had to bring him to the ER at VVC. This decision 100% saved Blue's life!!Blue had developed severe inflammation of the bladder and this was causing bleeding internally. This blood loss became very serious, so much so that Blue needed a blood transfusion to save his life. Luckily VVC had blood on hand to give him this life-saving transfusion. Most ordinary veterinarians do not. Blue's condition would improve and then worsen as the days went on because he was simply losing more blood than his body could produce. He ended up needing a second blood transfusion and it was at this point the doctors at VVC decided it was best for them to do surgery to physically remove the stones from his bladder and to try and stop the bleeding. He was a very ill cat at this point and surgery was very risky but there was no other option besides euthanasia which I could not bring myself to do.Once Blue was under anesthesia they went in for surgery. When they opened him up they found that his bladder wall was severely inflamed and the bladder wall material in a certain spot was essentially falling apart. The doctors removed the stones and cut out this section of his bladder and sewed him back up with stitches. This made his bladder much smaller than before but it worked!! Blue spent the next week after surgery recuperating while the staff nursed him back to health. Every day they were checking his blood levels and kidneys and all other vitals to ensure he was on track to recovery. The staff was doing physical therapy and giving him all the care and attention he needed to ensure a successful recovery.Blue Cheese is now home and every day he is improving! He is eating more and more every day and his energy levels are increasing every day. All in all Blue spent about 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital and there were many times when I thought he wouldn't make it through but he just kept fighting for life and the doctors and staff just wouldn't give up on him! This was a very emotional experience for me AND the staff as many of them expressed how much they were pulling for him to make it. Many of the staff said they were gonna cry when he left but they knew he would have to come home eventually. EVERY single person I interacted with at VVC showed nothing but care and compassion and understanding during this difficult situation and I will never forget that! Yes this was an expensive experience but that is to be expected in a facility that can handle ANY situation and has the expertise that they have. I truly believe Blue Cheese would not have survived in any other facility less equipped than VVC of Fredericksburg. If your pet needs emergency care, there is NO place like VVC of Fredericksburg. They are truly a top notch operation and the whole staff from the doctors to the technicians to the coordinators to the desk girls to the janitor are nothing short of INCREDIBLE human beings who truly care about animals and want to do the right thing. I will never forget them and all that they did to bring my baby boy back from the brink. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH VVC!!!💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺💙😺

Dr Parsley and her caring team on 1/8/2024 could not have been any more caring on the hardest day for us. Copper was the absolute best part of our family. They got him in and took the best care they could, he was pain free in the end and we were able to say goodbye. The Veterinarians and the techs and assistants really are amazing people. Thank you so much.

We cannot thank the staff enough for taking such great care of our girl Chuck. We are fortunate that it was a kidney infection and nothing more nefarious but the staff kept us updated and because she is blind and was confused, let her stay in a room with us in between tests and the exam. Dr Progeny(?) took every precaution to make sure we were getting her the best care and spent time explaining her diagnosis and follow up care. After a few days of antibiotics , she is acting like herself again. Thankful to have this clinic for after hours care.

Shout out to the entire staff at Virginia Veterinary Centers. My dog had two seizures in a day and I was an absolute mess. I had no clue what to do. It was late at night, so I was concerned that I'd be dealing with an overwhelmed staff and I would get subpar treatment. Nothing could be further from the case. When I called, whoever was on the phone calmed me down immediately. She simply said, "If you're worried about your dog, there's no harm in coming in to see us." That kind of assertive and yet caring attitude was exactly what I needed. From the second I showed up, everyone I dealt with was so nice and SO, so patient with me, MORE importantly, they were patient with my extremely anxious puppy. They treated him nicely the whole time and made him feel as comfortable as he would allow himself to feel.I spoke to Dr. Emily Beard who gave me so much information, and volunteered so much of her time to answer all of my questions. I don't believe I could ever express how grateful I am for everyone I dealt with that night. Truly, you guys are amazing at your jobs. Thank you so much for being there for Gordie.

So thankful for the quick response for my cat on Sunday. Staff was so kind and informative and took such great care of our boy. Wait times were a little but higher but its an emergency vet so that is to be expected. Id rather go somewhere that takes the time to care for my pet then rush us in and rush us out.

$4,600 This place is a joke. The only reason I say that is because. There is no reason a veterinarian needs to act like every thing is going to be fine with your animal and that a surgery will be the perfect option and your animal will have great recovery. Just for them to call you and say that it died during surgery and hand you a dead cat in a cardboard box the next day. Also all of the random fees and testing they try to say needs to be done is outrageous. There is no reason that a few hours of having the cat should have cost $4,600 to do something that shouldn't have even cost $1200. It's ridiculous that I think about this experience every week for the past 2 years. All this place is about ,is trying to basically rob you.

Everyone was extremely nice, especially with how busy they were. They took care of my pup Winnie as quickly as they could. I appreciate all of them for all their hard work & dedication to so many animals!

You are in the best possible care if you bring your baby to this hospital. These people are true heroes and I don’t know how they do this job, but I am so thankful for them.My cat hurt his leg over the weekend, our primary vets office was closed and I obviously was not going to wait until Monday. I came into VVC Sunday around 8am, we checked out around 4pm. My cat was a higher risk patient so he was brought back rather quickly, maybe 45 minute wait. By 11am they had to close the doors to non-priority patients because they were at max capacity. (They would never turn away a dire case)We were there for a long time and it was extremely expensive. This is JUST like a real hospital ER. Be prepared to wait, bring things to do. There are shops around the area, it’s not the staffs job to occupy you. Also, be prepared to see dying animals and know that everybody is there for the same reason you are, for their pet. Show some compassion, be nice and be thankful that your pet may not be a higher priority case in comparison to someone else.

We brought our dog in for a bite, and they were fine with him. However, as we were waiting we saw two people come out after putting their dog down. The front desk was not at all compassionate. And in one case they brought the deceased dog out of the room while the owners were coming out crying. They need some training on dealing with this situation.

I gave them a 4 star because of the wait time! I will start out with this. The staff was amazing as well as the doctors. The only thing that really bothered me was that I was told that the wait time is 4 to 6 hours. I was there for 8 and half hours. The doctor spoke with me around 4 or maybe little after 4 and I still waited another 2 and half hours. My dog was not seriously injured. I do not understand why was I not released once the doctor informed me on what had happened to her. They wanted for me to do c-rays I refused because of the amount and after I thought about it I could only imagine how much longer I would’ve waited for that! The time frame to me was unacceptable. They are really patient with people like me that were ready to go! I kept asking the young lady at the front desk do you know how much longer. She was tell me the doctor is finishing up your discharge papers. That alone took an hour and 1/2.After all of that being said the staff, vet tec and the veterinarian doctor were amazing and very patient with me. Thank you for taking care of my baby

I’ve had to visit this emergency vet a couple of times. Most recently we had an emergency and had to say goodbye to our beloved dog petunia. The staff at VVC was not only incredibly professional and attentive but they made an awful situation into a compassionate farewell. A few days later, when the grief was subsiding, we received a card from the vet with a beautiful quote about grief and love. It was a beautiful gesture that really shows how much they care. I am truly thankful for the compassionate care we received.

I’ve never felt more cared about and respected at any vet, ever. Primary or hospital. Dr Kellsie Mullikin is everything one could ask for in a vet. She treated my parents old smelly girl like she would treat a baby princess. We are so thankful. She made me feel like I was doing the right thing even though I couldn’t afford the gold standard. They’ve been so responsive over the phone as well. Madison is genuine and kind. I’ll recommend this place as long as they’re around. Thank you FVEC ❤️🐾

Pros: the location is great for FXBG residents. The doctors and staff all seem enthusiastic and caring.Cons: long wait (we were there about 5 hrs total). In the end, they didn't really help my dog much. Unfortunately, I ended up having to put him down the next day. Was hoping the emergency staff would do more to get him back on his heart medication (which I brought with me but that he would not take). I know they can't save all pets, but was hoping they would help him take his meds instead of just giving him an anti-nausea shot and some hydration.

This was our first visit here.Overall, the veterinary assistant/nurse and the vet were very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.Really, my only complaint, was the wait. We were the first ones in before 7am. and waited for 4 1/2 hours. I understand that a 4-6 hour wait time is posted and that emergencies come first, but my baby waited by himself w/out being seen for hours in pain. An intense ear infection, we could have been helped and out of the way. More staff needs to be on site to manage the influx of emergencies.

They were quick to exam our puppy who we thought had a seizure. Luckily that wasn't the case. Longest part was waiting to check out because severe cases kept coming in and they take priority. Totally understandable. We had a great experience with the staff.

We’ve come several times over the years with our dogs for various emergency needs and always had a top notch experience. Our most recent visit was no exception and the entire staff was excellent. Dr. Parsley’s has an excellent bedside manner and communicated clearly and empathetically as we navigated our situation. We were seen quickly and I am grateful to have such high quality emergency services in our area! Thank you VVC!

They were very caring and very thorough in trying to find out why my little Annie was crying and not feeling good. They were also very reassuring to me during the whole visit. Highly recommend them if your fur babies ever need help.

Even though it seemed very busy, Beth was very helpful at the front desk. She not only answered multiple phone calls, took the time to explain the process, and patiently listen to each customer. Jordana, the vet tech, was very caring, and listened to our concerns about KoKo, our Labrador, and took care of our pet.Dr Dong was very thorough and made us feel at ease even though our dog could have a very serious condition. I'm very happy to have found this practice. I look forward to our follow up appointment. Excellent service and caring staff. Keep up the good work!

I cannot say enough great things about this place. I took my dog here late Saturday night and we were in and out of there till Monday trying to figure out what was going on. As scary as that experience was the doctors and nurses at the Virginia Veterinary Center were incredible. They walked us through everything, answered all our questions, and took amazing care of my dog. She’s finally on the mend because of this place and all the wonderful people who work there. Everyone from the ER staff who took my phone calls to each of the doctors who we spoke with were kind and so compassionate toward my pup. Highly recommend this place!!

I brought in our 11 year old cat, because it appeared she was having a seizure. The staff acted quickly and took her straight back to the examination room. The veterinarian and staff took really good care of her. VVC was extremely busy, but still gave great care to our cat. I'd recommend them

An emergency visit if truly necessary is always going to be expensive, stressful, and traumatic. But as a trauma nurse myself, I was greatly impressed with the facility, staff, and care. I did not stay professional when it was my own babies. I was in hysterics, covered in their blood in the middle of the night with my husband deployed overseas. My girls are my whole world. The staff at VVC remained calm and professional, diligent in providing quick care and reassuring me every step of the way. The facility was spotlessly clean, and I noted plenty of equipment I would comfortably use on human patients in my emergency department. They triaged appropriately, taking my critical girl straight back to control bleeding and making my other one wait overnight for stitching as they cared for other patients. As the only 24hr ER nearby, we simply could not do without them and I am so grateful for the staff who endure overnight shifts to provide care to this community. You have my gratitude and respect.

The clinic took excellent care of my Yorkshire Terrier, Roland, recently, on a late Saturday afternoon visit. The staff was very competent, caring, and fast in examining and treating him. I have used this clinic before for emergency service, and am consistently impressed. I recommend them.

Brought my cat in for an emergency, her stitches were coming out from being spayed. The staff and vet were very nice and really accommodating and explained everything well. The reason for the 5 stars is this place didn’t try to stick it to you on prices, the vet talked me through options and I could tell he was trying to help but also be reasonable that is rare in a vet. Prices are a little high but that’s to be expected for an emergency vet, in a pinch that your pets here but also be prepared to wait though.

Kind and compassionate staff. They have a tough job and do not get enough credit. We took our dog here late at night over concerns that he was stirring and spinning in our bed in the middle of us sleeping (though possible restlessness due to a seizure). There was a long wait when we went on a Thursday, but seriously, they were so thoughtful and periodically checked in due to the wait time. Thank you for your hard work and devotion to animals! I hope we don't have to return, but know we will receive quality customer service and animal care.

The receptionist for this facility said it is only doing "urgent care" and not currently servicing "medical emergencies." When I asked the difference she said a medical emergency is like a heart attack and urgent care is when you're not feeling well. When I told her my dog threw up a week ago and threw up again today she said we are not welcome to bring her in for care because she is having a "medical emergency."My dog is obviously in need of an exam and testing, which any sensible veterinary center would know. After Virginia Veterinary Centers refused to treat her Four Paws Animal Hospital and Wellness Center listened to her symptoms and scheduled an examination for the next day, instead of fabricating some hyped-up bogus diagnosis to turn her away.I've never spoken to a more inept and incompetent animal facility than Virginia Veterinary Centers.

I’m so grateful to have a place like this so close for those unexpected emergencies that inevitably happen when the regular vet office is closed. All of the staff we had contact with during our cats 48 hour stay were polite, patient, kind, understanding, and supportive. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

10/10 would take my animals there again. Long wait times, but it's an ER vet. They're understaffed, overworked, and underpaid. But they were kind, spoke clearly, double checked themselves and took every avenue to ensure my cats eyes were healthy. Dr Kearney is precise, to the point, and gave me options for the best care route possible. Everyone was pleasant even with a full waiting room, and made sure to give specific details to every person to reassure them about their pets. I work at the SPCA and would 100% recommend them to anyone with an emergency case.

I was at the ER all day Sunday- like from 11:00am-6pm and picked my dog up at 9pm. I knew it was for the long haul and would be an all day event. A lot of critical patients came on and took our spot in line. Some animals came in that already passed away. People were upset with waiting and threatened to leave (which the staff can’t do anything about and was just better for us). When it was our turn I appreciated the aggressive approach from the Dr. Beard and time spent with us. As well as an additional phone call. Bronchitis and pneumonia for my 1year old lab. Everyone was great and an ER means WAITING.Its all so demanding and a lot of people in the waiting room don’t even know what goes on back there 🐾💜💚🧡🐾
