I’ve visited a lot of family owned stores in my life, and I have to say river rock outfitters put me up for a surprise!Story time my family was going to get pizza and I stopped by here while they were waiting to check out the store. I walked in they were busy, and I began surveying the store. The layout was very sleek and well put together, and as I progressed back I saw the store opened a secondary wing to the left and one further back. I explored the left first and saw the hiking gear they had and was thoroughly THOROUGHLY impressed with the selection of gear. They have my primary gear set on the wall that I replenish every season and left a really good impression on me with that section. Their clothing looks very well put together, packs were limited but varied in liters as expected, and they had a very healthy selection of boots. Proceeding to the back I saw more shoes ( everyone knows a hikers best friend is what’s on their feet ) and more bottles, clothing, and so forth. I saw they had a little deck of survivalist cards for not dying and I picked them up on my way and checked out. The two ladies scanned them up and were super friendly and offered me their rewards program, now I’m gonna be honest with you being that I have been shopping at REI my benefits there do outweigh what’s offered HOWEVER the difference between REI and river rock is that river rock is family owned, meaning you’re giving money to a tradition not a corporation. I will be shopping here more for advice on gear and will pick up more when I’m in the area. If I have to buy in bulk I’ll be favored towards REI, but if I’m buying something new river rock will be my go to.In summary the store is a very well kept store, owned by good people! Prices are fair, and well listed for the public to see, they offer a select set of gear I haven’t seen anywhere else ( running lights ) and have given me a lot to think about. Thank you for letting me have a good experience river rock I’ll be shopping with you all more in the future.

Always been highly impressed with this place you can see the car that's put into a small business here and how much the owners and employees care about the shop and their brand and have found an effective way to market it. Their shop is full of the best you can find products from prana, North Face, Patagonia, black diamond and many others. There prices are more than reasonable and I can't say enough for how nice the staff is. If you're looking to have outdoor adventures in the area these guys are more than knowledgeable and will point you in the right direction. Love this place.

Thanks to a friend's suggestion I finally found the time to come here. The staff was super friendly. I had messaged them in the morning letting them know I'd be stopping by with questions and the intent to purchase my first set of hiking gear.Was very pleased with the assistance I received and the information that was shared. I have never gone hiking before let alone do much of anything outdoors. Thanks to River Rock I feel confident I can do this with what they've provided. Can't wait to start my adventures!

Writing this on the heels of a women-only guided hike lead by the store's certified hiking guide, Meegana. I purchased almost every piece of gear here because the team is amazing. They've used the equipment, they know what they are talking about and you will never second guess your purchase.Meegana is the only certified hiking guide in Virginia and we are beyond fortunate to have her right here in Fredericksburg.I've also rented SUP and Kayaks here and our family has enjoyed our experience every time.RRO is the epitome of shopping LOCAL!!

What's not to love about our city's local outfitter? Great service, knowledgeable staff, great selection and a gorgeous shop to boot. You can shop online and pickup too!Can't find what you're looking for? They can order it.Have a gear collection "problem" and need to find it a home? They can sell it on consignment with cash or store credit options.Need a gift for that outdoorsy friend or family member that seems to have everything? Yeh...two words...gift card.This local shop is not to be missed. I had a very positive experience buying a backpack online through their used gear program. It was on consignment but functionally new with tags. I called the store to get more info on the pack before ordering and their staff was more than helpful. They answered all my questions and provided me with extra information. I wish I lived closer so I could visit the store in person. The customer service for online orders was top notch. Shipping was extermely fast. I called before I visited as I was looking for something specific. Amanda helped me find a couple of UPF shirts and put them aside for me. Turns out one was just perfect! Exactly what I wanted. The store is very organized with lots of high quality clothing and gear well consolidated in the space. Love the purchase rewards. I absolutely love this shop! It is my go-to store for most of my outdoor needs. River Rock has also helped me by providing me an outlet to divest myself of gear which no longer fits (lost a lot of weight) or i no longer use through its reboot program. I’ve been participating in River Rock Outfitter’s consignment program for about a year now and it’s such a great way to resell our gently used gear. My two children rarely wear out their gear before they grow out of it, especially winter coats and boots, and I’ve been able to resell those items easily through River Rock. I’ve also found some great items for purchase in the consignment section for myself and the kids. It’s awesome to know you’re going to get great quality gear and clothing, new and gently used, at a great price. And, of course, the customer service is always amazing. Can’t say enough about River Rock Outfitters!

I ordered a osprey pack and it was delivered extremely fast. The pack was listed as lightly used but it was brand new. Excellent condition. Great price. Got it for 90 dollars. Highly recommend this store!!

Awesome little shop! Caters to hikers, kayakers, rock climbers, etc... The consignment program is an excellent way to purchase used gear, shoes, clothing, at a reduced price. It is also a great method to bring in your no longer needed gear to sell for cash or store credit. The folks that work at River Rock Outfitters are the best. Always friendly and helpful. You can always find someone to share their outdoor experiences and recommendations/tips for your next adventure! Oh, they are also a dog friendly store! Stop in and show off your pup!!! If you are into outdoor recreation, I am sure you will find something you need here!

A year later and we have sold so many items using the Reboot program. It has been a great experience working with River Rock Outfitter. Can say enough good things about the staff!We recently realized that River Rock Outfitter has a Reboot or consignment program. The staff has been amazing to work with. They have quickly sold many of our items. The selling price is very fair for both the seller and the buyer. We would highly recommend that you clean out your closet and turn those unwanted outdoor items into some cash or credit!

I was visiting my kid at college and went in during covid just to wander/look around . I was casually looking at some hiking sneakers and a very helpful person chatted with me - I said I'd try on a few. Much to my surprise, I got an actual fitting!! With the questions about the kinds of walking/hiking I wanted to do and the fitting, I ended up with THE BEST FITTING shoes I've ever worn! This is really a gem of a store. Locally owned and great staff. Highly recommended store as they have just about everything without being crowded..

I've met both the owners; a husband and wife team who are just very down to earth and good people. They'll just be walking around the store helping customers out and you wouldn't even know that they are the owners. This business also happens to be veteran-owned and to me, a small veteran-owned American business with excellent customer service is exactly what I want to support. And each time I go there, I'm absolutely amazed at the exceptional customer service provided by the employees. Last time I went there, it was two super-helpful dudes, and this time it was Julia and Migana (I hope I spelled that right). This is the kind of customer service that TRULY sets a business apart; especially in our day and age where it's all about "fast-food" customer service. The employees were just so awesome that I had to leave another review to show my sincere appreciation.Anyways, I don't know where or how you guys find your AWESOME staff, or how you keep them so happy, but just keep up the great work!! Your staff are truly exceptional.
