One of the best little hideaway spots you can stumble across on the blue ridge parkway. Rooms are completely updated and adorable. The owner cooked to order breakfast was amazing. The coffee, wow. The surrounding area has great views and just a short drive for other lunch/dinner/entertainment options. Highly recommend this place. History, comfort, and a true gem.

We stayed there for one night, and it was amazing. Staff and the owner was very kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area, and my daughters loved the home-made breakfast and my husband enjoyed the view while eating the breakfast. It is amazing to have a hot breakfast on a cold day in the mountain. My daughers fell in love with the small bird and horse statue from Sweden sold there. We would definitely be back and stay there again.

What a great place! Right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we just had to make it our stop for the night. The room was clean, cozy, and had everything you'd need. The pillows and comforters made it the best sleep I've ever had. In the morning, Nick had gotten up, played his jams in the kitchen while cooking for us. Hed set us up a nice table with all the condiments, and even though it took him time to do that, he still politely and quickly gave us our food so we could eat in our room, as my wife wasn't feeling so well. He has everything you'd need too, so he gave us some medicine so we didn't have to go off our route to a store. Now, before you get there for the night, EAT DINNER. The next town over has a wonderful place called Jim's Grill. Other wise there's no where open late, or near the motel to eat. Good luck Nick, we'll be back for sure!

Great stop if traveling and adventuring the Blue Ridge Parkway! The owner Nick, has done an awesome job with the property having it clean and tidy. Nice fire pit. All while maintaining its look as the long standing Roadside motel! Bedrooms are all fully modernized. Includes a delicious breakfast with you stay. We will be back!Rooms: Super clean with everything with modern updates! Bed was super comfortable! Wifi. Very comfortable while waiting storms and prepping for our next day on the bike!

In all honesty, I was expecting a dive but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my room door (room 5) to find not only a clean room (cleaner than any other room so far and we have been on the road a week now staying in different places) but also a renovated room. The inn is located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway which in my opinion is a perfect location. Nothing is better for us females than a new and updated bathroom. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we sat outside and watch the sun set over the mountains and some deer grazing in the grass.Rooms: Newly renovated

This is the true roadside inn experience - stayed here as a couple travelling on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It felt cosy, fun and somewhat adventurous as a stop-off after a long drive, like a true motel "Est. 1938" except with much better amenities. Owner Nick has a done a great job with it, cooks great breakfast, runs a great shop too. He's passionate about it all. The nearby town of Floyd is also lovely. Plan into your trip as a place to stay if possible!

Close to downtown Floyd. Clean rooms and super helpful and friendly staff. They even arranged for an Amazon delivery for my vagabond daughter. Wonderful breakfast buffet with great coffee and grits. There were even little creamer cups instead of the awful packs of creamer. My husband thought it was the best breakfast of our week-long trip. So happy you also sell the grits in the gift shop. Since we only stayed overnight, we didn't take advantage of the corn hole or fire pit.Nearby activities: Be sure to take in Floyd Country Store and Jamboree. The Mabry Mill is also about 15 minutes away for a scenic stop.

I did not stay the night but I can tell you the rooms are totally renovated, extremely clean. The owner was kind enough to let the firefighters working the woolwine fire use 2 rooms for bathrooms breaks changing clothes etc... i think that says alot for the owner. Rock Castle Creek would be a awesome hike for the day and come back and stay at Tuggles Gap for the night

We were camping nearby, and my son wanted to treat us to breakfast on Father’s Day. They advertised a breakfast buffet 7-11 am which seemed perfect. We arrived at 8:30 and were seated outside on the covered deck because we had our doggies with us. All good. With no instructions from the gentleman who seated us, we waited for a server. None showed after10 minutes, so I went inside and was informed to help ourselves at the buffet. It was the most pathetic buffet I have ever seen. A few pieces of bacon and sausage, cold, dry biscuits, dry, cool scrambled eggs, almost empty grits pan, and an empty container of sausage gravy for the biscuits, and a few pastries. The coffee urn was empty. There was no one present to make a comment or request to anywhere around. We took what was available back to our table. We went back to see if anything was replenished. Nope. We left. My son actually stopped to pay and told the gentleman why he wasn’t leaving a tip- we never saw a server the entire time we were there.A complete disappointment, waste of time and money. Never again!Food & drinks: Terrible. See comments above.

Great place. Old school motel, renovated, clean, room is great, price is good. We have enjoyed our stay.My only suggestions would be a mini fridge in the room, a bench or seating for the smoking leapers, and no creamer for coffee.

My wife & I stayed here in early August 2023 on a drive north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The place was great and so was the owner. He has really fixed up the motel and it was one of the best places we stayed during our 35-day road trip (lotsa hotel stays). Room, bed, bathroom, shower - it was all great! Even made us a home cooked breakfast the next morning. Super nice guy. The TV was set up to use my Netflix account and it was nice being able to watch some favorite shows - ONLY place on the entire trip that offered that.If you're traveling the Parkway, stay here! It was right off the Parkway, about midway between Ashville & Charlottesville.

Updated May 17, 2023:We stepped back from being a full-service restaurant in late March 2023 due to staffing constraints. The restaurant industry is suffering globally and staffing has been historically difficult at Tuggle's Gap due to our remote location. Our shop is now open 7 days a week, offering hot breakfast items from 7:00 AM - 10:30 AM and gourmet grab and go items all day, including baguette sandwiches, deviled eggs, wraps, salads, classic sandwiches, fresh baked goods, desserts, sides & more!Food & drinks: Limited resturant service. See owner's comment posted above.

Worst experience I've had there. When it was under old management the food was delicious. Today they had a sorry buffet for $16. Potatoes were cold. Had to asking for bacon.Nothing diabetic friendly. Ordered an omelet asked for onion and ham no cheese. Sorriest omelet ever and not worth the $10 I was charged. The egg was over full of onion with 2 small slices of country ham just laying underneath it. That is not how you fix omelets. No menus and when I ordered the omlette no one even mentioned how much it would be.So hot in there your drinks can't stay cold. Sweat more inside than out in 90 degree weather. The milk was setting out beside the orange juice getting hot. This use to be an excellent place to eat. I was in the restaurant industry for a long time and I don't see how you stay open. It has to be those fabulous rooms keeping you open. It's sure not the food.Noteworthy details: Not worth it

On June 10, 2022, I stayed in the freshly renovated Room 3. I must say that I could not have been more pleased with my stay at this Inn. The innkeeper was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast and lunch in their restaurant were great home-cooked meals (better than Waffle House or IHOP-type restaurants) and very reasonably priced. The room was really nice. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. I would definitely stay in this Inn again if I was passing through the area. Lastly, this motel is only 6 miles from Floyd, VA, which was one of the coolest towns I have ever visited along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

My wife and I have lived in Floyd going on 20 years. Heard about sea food on their menu. Came in ,very nice waitress seated us. The atmosphere is wonderful. We had several sea food items on menu..I've had sea food all up and down the East coast. I was blown away. The absolute best I've ever had anywhere including at coast. The oysters were magnificent!! Flounder, shrimp , slaw, potato salad it was a dining experience second to none. There just hasn't been a good restaurant around for sea food period. There Is Now..Tuggles you must try it. We will definitely be back to try more of their daily menu. But don't miss their sea food days. Tuggles the best!!!

Wonderful place to stay! The rooms are newly renovated and everything in the room was brand new, except for the old restored hard wood floors-which are beautiful! The beds were comfortable, they had roku tv, and the shower was nice and large. When you walk out of your motel door you can see the blue ridge parkway. The restaurant here is great! Very clean and very good home cooked meals. I will definitely be coming back!
